  • What a difference!
    Out of all the visual mods i've made to my BMW E82 135i, this has been my favourite! Being pre-LCI, the stock taillights dated quite quickly (especially compared with current day tech), however, these new LCI Blackline taillights completely rejuvenate the rear and modernize the car.
    I bought them from Schmiedmann, a European specialist in BMW parts (www.schmiedmann.com) for about $700 AUD (which is about 500 USD) - but I have no regrets even with that price tag.

    I have also a 2008 e82 (123d) M Pack and am thinking about upgrading my taillights aswell. Did you had to rewire or remapping the electric? I ve read that for some models you have to do that...

    • @ElliottBrooks
      @ElliottBrooks  Před rokem +1

      Hey mate, thanks for the kind words. I believe that the defining factor is whether you have HID lights at the front or halogens. There are two kinds of rear lights - I think LED and regular (LED if you have HID headlights). Mine were the LED kind so it was plug and play. No rewiring or remapping.

    • @ElliottBrooks
      @ElliottBrooks  Před 3 lety

      You will need to have the LED stock lights on your BMW already for a LED taillight to work. Otherwise the cheaper halogen blacklines would be more simple. Schmieddman would know - I can only comment on my experience :)

    • @valentijn9
      @valentijn9 Před 3 lety

      Elliott Brooks Schmiedmann is a tuner. You can buy these Blackline tail lights at a BMW dealer. I have an E82 (2011) which did not have xenon headlights from the factory. I just went to a BMW dealer and said I wanted Blackline taillights. Appointment made, car delivered and picked it up later that day and all was done. Paid about Euro 425 total.

    • @ElliottBrooks
      @ElliottBrooks  Před 3 lety

      Yeah that’s not the case in Australia, where I’m located. My understanding is some halogen models can’t fit the LED blacklines. Also schmiedmann were cheaper than that at only €300 + delivery

      Just look for one without too high kilometres/miles. Then when you find one at a price you’re willing to pay, speak to the owner and find out his servicing. The servicing is super important in these cars, as it’s common for things to break and oil leaks to happen. After that when you’re happy, get the car into a BMW specialist mechanic for a “pre-purchase inspection”. It’ll cost you about $200 but it’s worth it, to truly know the condition of the car. Hope that helps!

    • @ElliottBrooks
      @ElliottBrooks  Před 3 lety

      It comes back eventually. These engines are high performance but that also means a lot of pressure and strain on the supporting parts. Unfortunately no aftermarket improvements for the bits that fail yet. Mostly small rubber seals and things like that. Good luck!

      look up oil filter housing leak, valve cover housing leak, transmission pan gasket. i got a 2011 this year with 55k miles. i had to do the first 2 right away. the oil filter leaked onto the belts. had to get new belts and pulleys too. you will need new spark plugs and ignition coils if above 80k. tons of vids on how to do the gaskets. i was going to try to do the oil filter housing myself but i didn't want to attack the valve cover gasket so i had them both done by a mechanic. i did the spark plugs myself with new coils. had to do a ton of other things too. there is a possibility for $1,000-3,000 in fixes for this 10 year old car. if you are worried get an inspection first. most people will take that $100 of if you decide to buy it. seals have to be done after 50k miles. oil filter leaks on that belt and it then goes into the engine. it will be the end of the motor.
