Action packed fishing at Barkers Creek Reservoir

- Bite after bite after bite! This was my first time fishing at Barkers Creek Reservoir, and I was NOT disappointed! This lake is stocked by Fisheries Victoria with trout, murray cod, and yellowbelly, but the usual suspects carp and redfin can also be found in here.
I hooked my first fish before I had even clipped the bells on, and the action just kept coming. I may have only ticked of 2 of the 5 species on offer, but I caught so many fish that I lost count.
It was an amazing afternoon until someone chose to setup right next to me, despite there being about 200m of clear shoreline to choose a spot. I always try to be respectful of other fishermen, especially if they were there first. That guy didn't seem to care, saying that "he's there every day" - thinking he owns that specific spot or something!
Don't be that guy.

Awesome session Rohan! I see you took my advice about barkers… Told you it’s a very productive spot. I hope to fish there soon when I visit family. Keep it up Rohan! P.S. I reckon you should go to the actual creek, probably via harcourt, but that’s just from personal experience with what family has told me. Cheers mate!
Thanks heaps Cooper, I'm just glad I remembered to give you a shoutout haha. I did go check out the actual creek in Harcourt before I headed home, it looked very difficult to access the water (tons of reeds along the edges). Next time if I have more time I'll explore it a bit more.
@@RKJFishing Thanks so much mate. Yeah, harcourt is a pretty tricky spot but once you find a good spot, it doesn’t dissapoint. Thanks for the shoutout too, I really, really appreciate it. Have a good night mate
I love watching you fish and your mate Robbie
Awesome!! I love watching Robbie too haha
Hi Ronan. Once I was doing some quiet fishing with my son at a little creek. Three car loads of people with kids turned up, set up a BBQ right near me, and kids kicking balls and wading in the water. I get that it is public land but some people have no consideration. Packed up and went somewhere else. MP
Wow yeah some people have no consideration for others at all
Keen fishin into that breeze lol
Lol yeah it sure was blowy!!! bloody weatherman wrong as usual haha
Ive never got the balls to say anything to people good job sticking up for yourself mate
Thanks mate. I had a "gentlemanly conversation" with him lol
Well done 👍, was a excellent trout fishery in its day, with reports from the old blokes of twenty pound rainbows and browns, i fished it with fly mainly in the 80's & 90's with excellent results.
I was in the Bendigo fly fishers, each year we would stock it will rainbow trout eggs in the head water. Fisheries stocked the main res with browns, went out with them in the boat releasing them once to see monster browns following the boat devouring the finlings.
Thanks Craig. Yeah I heard it used to be mostly a trout fishery. Wow that would have been something to see!
"Didn't even get the bells on..." Frank will be happy. The No-bell Peace Prize is within your sight ;)
Hahahaha. I reckon you're right about Frank
Glad to see your having such a spectacular season Rohan. A year to remember! I had one of those in 2021.
Caught bugger all since tho…. 🤣☝🏻🇨🇦
Thanks Alan! Haha yeah I had one of those years last year. This year I'm working hard to get to the good spots to make sure I have a good year lol.
*you're
Great session and a great way to relax. Thanks for sharing Rohan!
Thanks so much mate
Bout time...place is gold ....wish I was on kayak
Haha yeah it's taken me a while to give it a go! I definitely need to get my kayak over there once I get a new car
Good times fishing. Nice to see. ❤
Thanks
WOW That was epic, unreal. Well done mate. Some people have absolutely no idea about personal space.
That redfin that didn't swim off too well cracked me up. 😂😂
Thanks heaps Robbie. I reckon it would be worth the trip for you with your kayak! hahaha yeah that was funny, I reckon if I only removed the first hook and let him go he would have been fine. If it was a yella I probably would have let him keep both hooks (or kept him lol). A little respect and personal space is definitely a hard thing to come by these days. Cheers mate
Awesome! Well that is a new spot I"ll have to go give a go! Brilliant Rohan!
Thanks heaps Les, yeah definitely give it a go!
THAT WAS AWESOME TO WATCH YOU CATCH THAT MANY FISH AND YOU HAD A WONDERFUL TIME GREAT VIDEO
Thanks so much Jerry, glad you enjoyed it mate
great work buddy, well done.
Cheers Billy
Thanks Rohan
Someone told me about this reservoir some time ago well done those yellas were a magnificent colour and size
Thanks Peter! Yeah I was in the same boat, heard all about it but never gave it a go until now
Wow! Nice work Rohan. I’ve only caught Redfin in there. 🙂✌️
Thanks heaps Tubby! Quite a few people are getting yellas there now since it started being stocked by fisheries
Excellent session mate
Thanks Michale
Good effort, nice fish!
Thanks heaps Geoff
I thought that first Yella was going to be a new PB as well for a second 😅
I thought it was like 60 but just built like one 💪
From there on it didn't disappoint, it was definitely a hot bite and non stop action.
From the crapload of reddies and the couple of yellas was awesome 👍 keep them coming mate 🎣
The measurement to the fork is only for certain species to whoever said that haha
haha yeah I was thinking it was gonna be a PB, turned out to just be a big tub of muscle lol. Thanks so much
Looks like a great place to wet a line. Well done, mate.
Thanks so much Ross, it's beautiful there.
You should try the river just below cairn Curran mate had lots of success! Absolutely love your videos mate keep it up
Thanks for the tip mate! I'm hoping to get over that way in the next few weeks if things go well. Cheers buddy
What a busy time you had , yeah ok
The fish certainly kept me on my toes that day!
One thing us fisherman have plenty of is patience, I'm sure that fourth PB is not to far away. Great session Rohan.
Very true! Thanks so much Len
*too
What a fantastic session, wow. I'll have to go cast some Wiglets around on Wednesday and see what I can find. Good video Rohan.
Thanks Jacob! Let me know how you go with the wiglets
@@RKJFishing I will !
I admire your restraint, I would have packed up and taken the first yellow straight home. Gotta love poachers, they see you catching and just have to come and crowd your space.
Haha he looked tasty aye!!! I don't think he setup there because he saw me catching fish, from what he said he was there every day - I think he thought he owned that specific spot lol
Good going, Rohan👍🏼 an absolute wonder fest lol…. I like your film quality on this video tonight. Done well, gone strong, mate.
Thanks so much Wayne. I filmed it with my new GoPro Hero 12 - I'm glad the quality difference was noticable!
@@RKJFishing the film quality was very noticeable, Rohan 👍🏼 looks great…
As SOON as you hooked that 1st fish i KNEW it WASN'T a carp!
Top spot!
WHY didn't you keep those yellas? PERFECT eating size:not TOO big & therefore greasy!
Cheers mate, yeah it is a top spot. I wasn't after a feed that day - just because I can keep it doesn't mean I always have to :)
@@RKJFishing Sure, why not I guess, but they are STOCKED fish.
I rarely take any of the black fish I catch either.
Oh, that bloke that stabbed his Pinay ex in Kangaroo Flat, seems he tried to drown himself there this arvo, but the cops got him just in time!
Great job mate never fished there but might be worth a go by the looks of it and it’s a bit rude when someone does that cheers for the video
Thanks mate. Yeah definitely give it a go! A little respect and personal space is a hard thing to come by these days it seems.
Barker's creek is always great for fishing its been year or so now since ive been there i go there for trout mainly. You had a lot of fun i see. You had the same problem i had today in Murchison a guy just took overy spot cause i was catching fish he wasn't but i had said a few more words than you most likely haha
It's a wonderful fishery for sure that I will be visiting again. Believe me I had a 'gentlemanly conversation' with him off camera LOL
Nice yellas Rohan. I was out there today and they were still being caught. I managed to land one as well as a few small reddies
Thanks mate! That's awesome Brenton, well done.
'He should be alright' - dead as a doornail lol! Those YB were thumpers Rohan! I just had a session like this on Friday, one catfish after another. Pity it doesn't happen like this all the time, eh?
hahaha yeah the double hook removal surgery was a bit rough on that one! I'm a tad jealous about the catfish, well done mate!
@@RKJFishing Well at least you got both hooks back!
Awesome yellowbellys, very nice reseviour, worth the trip over. I had the same thing yesterday.. i was cray and rod fishing at the same time and this blokes comes and fishes the hole 100m down from me next to one of my cray nets, just have to wonder sometimes.
Cheers Joel! Yeah some people have no respect
As always, Rohan, awesome content. Your eyeometer was on point, mate. But your earometer must be better. Anyone who listens to Metallica and fishishes must be a great bloke. Onya Rohan
haha yeah I've been a Metallica fan since I was a teenager. It's unreal that they are still releasing new music! Thanks so much
Great session Rohan have you tried Rotary Park Lake in Kangaroo Flat about 30yrs ago a workmate told me it was stocked with Yellow Belly.
Thanks mate! I actually have thrown some spinners around in there for a couple of hours but I didn't get a touch! That doesn't mean there's no redfin or yellas in there though. I did see some fat carp swimming around so I might go back with worms and see what I can catch
Loosing count of how many fish you caught 😮 a great day. Great video. Lovely weather. 😊
haha absolutely Vincent! Thanks heaps mate
*losing
I’m going this weekend 😂
Awesome, good luck mate
@@RKJFishing you and Robbie are the best I have learned from you guys 🎣
Thanks heaps mate. I still learn some things from Robbie haha
Where did you get your fishing mat from.
My wife bought it for me a few years ago from Ebay, I can't remember which seller though
its a funny rule the redfin one. All for carp being pulled out but in SA they will fine u heavily for releasing reddies. Im not sure redfin hurt anything ethier.
Yeah I think that's why Vic Fisheries ultimately leave it up to the angler's discretion. They tend to overpopulate and overeat which can make them dangerous to native species if the redfin are the dominant species in the waterway, but I reckon that fat yella was FULL of little redfin hahaha
Cracking session there mate, that first fish 👌. Who sets up that close to another when you’ve so much free bank 🤦♂️ what a dick! 😅
Thanks heaps Steve. Yeah I know right LOL
Second
Second comes right after first! Very quick Ray!
First 😂
haha well done Blaine!
@@RKJFishing thanks mate biggest achievement lol 😂
lol
