    It’s crazy to me that folks will be ready to fight if we say someone like PRIME Giannis would get 35 in 1980 cause it’s “disrespectful” but MJ can just come as a rookie and get 35 no questions 🤨 this shit is ridiculous. We can’t say anything negative pre-2010 but they can just demean, disrespect, and discredit basketball today for no reason. We can have three hour convos/pods on PRIME Bron’s weaknesses and his inabilities but can’t even admit Jordan had ANY weaknesses AS A ROOKIE 🤦🏽‍♂️ he gets to be a super nigga from the jump but somebody like PRIME Bron and Giannis have to get realistic expectations?? MJ in 85' took almost 20 shots a game. He shot 51.5% from the field that season. If he's shooting 65%+ at the rim he'd have to shoot about 38% from mid-range for that to equal out to 51.5%. The problem is that 65% is probably 0-3 feet, so you'd have to find his paint percentages (non-restricted area) and mid-range percentages to split that 38%. Regardless, Ticket tryna compare year 1 MJ to prime Giannis is disgusting. 85' MJ is not leading the league in scoring, hes not averaging 30. The disrespect of the modern era is filthy. This episode was a bunch of MJ jockstrap sniffing. "HE'S FREAKING MICHAEL JORDAN" said it all

    The problem with this hypothetical argument is that these dudes want to dissect MJ's game in a vacuum and exclude all other external variables that play a significant role. Sure if you just air-drop Jordan from 1984 in today's NBA without an adjustment period he might struggle initially. But it's very disingenuous to not think if Jordan came up in today's league he would not be a better all-around shooter from the sheer fact it's more required now than it was then. Didn't LeBron come into the league as a bad shooter? To think he played in an era where defensive bigs could camp in the lane because there was no defensive 3-second rule, defenders could get away with a lot more in terms of physicality and there weren't as many shooters to space the floor... MJ still averaged 28 ppg on 50% from the field as a "bad shooter"... Why shouldn't we believe he would dominate today

    • @kendrickjenkins96
      @kendrickjenkins96 Před 9 měsíci +1

      You can’t do that with sports hypotheticals across eras because then there’s certainly zero fact to any of it when hypotheticals are already opinion-based to begin with.
      Because I can say the EXACT opposite that what if Jordan NEVER developed into a better all-around shooter?
      Because the main reason he became such an elite midrange is one of the reasons he wasn’t that good a 3pt shooter, that huge hitch he had in his shot…which let him hang in the air longer than dudes in the midrange but that limits your range and effectiveness from 3.

    • @upgradeyourmindset3265
      @upgradeyourmindset3265 Před 9 měsíci +2

      @@kendrickjenkins96 I do agree sport hypotheticals are opinion based and nothing is factual because they're impossible to prove. But for the sake of argument I will combat the notion that Michael Jordan would be incapable of dominating in today's game, regardless of the flaws he had coming into the league. I'm projecting based on the improvement I not only saw in Jordan's shooting as his career progressed but also the players in today's game who improved their 3-point shot since they entered the NBA. LeBron James entered the league as a poor outside shooter and now he's attempting almost 10 a game. He's not very efficient but has still managed to remain effective as a scorer and there has been improvement in his jumpshot since his rookie season. The narrative that Jordan was a horrible 3-point shooter is slightly skewed. It wasn't that he was incapable of shooting them rather than he didn't shoot them enough. The seasons where he shot them at a higher clip you see a drastic improvement in his 3-point percentage

Its not crazy to say that Mike just simply isn’t leading the league in scoring there’s just not enough offensive versatility in his game that early in his career. Michael Jordan was definitely one of a kind talent and that’s what made him so special, but regardless there are skills even HE needed to develop to become a better player.

One that he acknowledged was Bud resting him. But it's equally true that Giannis barely plays in 4th quarters because the Bucks are usually ahead. Giannis runs up a huge lead and gets taken out. The reason why it doesn't always end as a blowout is because we are giving THANASIS ANTETOKOUNMPO MINUTES ALL THE TIME in garbage time, and unlike LOL's goat, Giannis doesn't stat pad.

    Jordan was in the convo for best player in the league as a rookie. During that time he was people just like to rewrite history and say otherwise, but there was some chatter. His game was refined even then, and he had already humiliated the best stars of the league the summer before with the usa games. He has a career average of 30, and even averaged 30 or close too in some of the slowest paced seasons in the late 90s. When he dropped 63 in the playoffs (which is still a record) that was his second season which he basically missed most of because of a broken leg. It is not unrealistic because that is who jordan is. 6'6 and has like the 7th or 8th largest hands in ALL of nba history with a 40 plus inch vert and almost 7 foot wingspan. That is why guys with his archtype (demar derozan) arent quite like him. Footwork, can post, finish both hands and over or under you. Midrange is money this is all rookie mj. 1. They never do it when teleporting today's players back then. Ask them about curry or kyrie.
    2. They act like because threes are a bigger focus in today's nba, that it will mean that the player they're teleporing will be able to shoot threes as well, ignoring the cases of someone like demar, Ben Simmons, and Westbrook, people who never improved their 3 point shot to where they're respectable from out there.

    I hate generational great players in another era topics. I think prime Giannis would be great in most eras, the only era I think he would have some issues in would be the 1994 to 2004 NBA slow half court era because there was no spacing at that time and both the PF and C could stay in the paint all night since there was no 3 secs rule. Giannis' passing would not be very good in that era because there wasn't total team defensive collapses on one attacker like there has been since the 2010s. In that 1994-2004 era, most defenders stayed at bay with their assignments. Giannis' couldn't get to the rim in 1997 as easily as he has since 2017. Too much size and congestion in the paint back then, dudes were much bigger and weighed more than Giannis then. Like I could not see Giannis fare well against the 94' Knicks with Ewing and Oak in the paint, Giannis would need to get by his defender who can hand check him, then he would hit a wall. Giannis would need a more consistent jump shot and thicker skin in that era of dead ball.

    At the Rim: 65.0% (518 makes on 797 attempts)
    At 3-10 feet: 50.0% (179 makes on 357 attempts)
    At 10-16 feet: 44.0% (207 makes on 471 attempts)
    At 16-23 feet: 29.7% (194 makes on 654 attempts)
