The Chicago Bulls' championship victory in the 1991 NBA Finals was the moment when the leading role in the NBA changed from Magic Johnson to Michael Jordan.

Jordan had become the face, as verified by Magic, and many other players, a little before that.
Yet, I think your moment is closer to the moment when casuals were hooked, and it was the next evolution in how big the NBA was.
The real moment, for me being a kid when the story broke, was Magic’s HIV diagnosis.
He might’ve played through the mid 90’s, and maybe got one more ring. He wasn’t about to retire, or had even talked about it.

@@riseharris5204I'm not going to argue with you because I agree with you. I was born in 78 and I started watching basketball around 85-86. Michael Jordan is my goat but a lot of people have Wilt Chamberlain as their goat. You said you have been watching basketball since the 60s so I thought you wouldn't have MJ number one. I have him number one because I grew up in the 80s-90s and I still haven't seen anyone like MJ. I have been a die hard fan my whole life and there is no one in the modern era even close to Jordan. I can't speak on players from the 60s-70s because I never saw them play but I can speak on what I witnessed and Jordan is the greatest

If and when you have sense and vision........and Time has graced you with specifics that you've recognized, respect and adore. You will not be playing games and making random moves here, there and everywhere to find otherwise. Trust. There's a few things that no one can play a hand in mastering. .......and 1 of those few things is chemistry. I’ll tell you why people who saw MJ, Bird, Magic, etc. play still argue that the 80’s and 90’s was the pinnacle of the NBA. It’s because those players never treated regular season games, even if it was a mid season game on a random Tuesday night, as a night off. What you saw was a group of players who never wanted to lose because they took losing personally. It was an ego thing and that translated to effort on the court that you could feel watching the games. You will never be able to feel that watching a CZcams highlight video or a rerun of an old game that you know the outcome of. You needed to be there in the moment to understand it.

Combine a bewildering leaping ability, blistering speed, infinitive endurance and stamina, a fundamentally sound understanding of the game, and an astonishing, borderline psychotic desire to not just win, but to utterly demolish the competition and ruin their confidence, and you get an athlete that threepeated, retired, and came back to threepeat. LB didn't threepeat, although he went to eight straight finals. Kobe did it once, but he had an unstoppable tank named Shaq. Russell won eight straight titles, but the league had about ten teams, and he had numerous HoF legends playing with him at any given time!

Jordan is great. Period. But he's great because he built a team that assisted his career and brand. Take Dennis Rodam. Jordan fought to get that man on the team. Rodman can't score a point to save his life but he can rebound. This helped Jordan win games and give more opportunity for Jordan to get more points with an additional player that helped HIM look good. Notice we only talk of Rodman as an after thought, after Jordan. He was key to Jordan's* success. And he's just one example.

Yeah, he was voted the GOAT athlete. He was definitely better at his sport than anyone was at any sport. In fact there used to be a quote that a few people said that said Michael Jordan is better at basketball than anyone has ever been at anything. Obviously a quote like that can't be verified, but it gives you an idea of how freaking good MJ was.

When Kobe says Jordan is the Best. And we all know that Kobe was (rip) the best in the 2000th and played Jordan.... we know the answer... there is a part in your vid with all the great names: Russel, Olijowan, Bird, Robertson, West and so on... they are great cause they did NOT change teams and promised 8 rings just to leave next year.....

As kid I knew many young psychofans, like we all, I always laughted at idolatry and made them mad :D I told my friend "yes hes the best but he is a psycho. boring obsessed dude who must win and does all just for this. he is not interesting as a person and way to live. Just great example as player, very noble, dominant, ideal mindset about basketball from playing to making a team, read game and know the game ay finest". And the truth was making them mad, buying shoes cleaning it, hanging posters and quoting anything to any ocasion :D Jordanomania was big and so funny for people who just love this game, zero cap besides ;)

    Michael Jordan is the GOAT
No question about that, and LeBron doesn’t even come close to Jordan. He may have scored more points, but he never reached the playoffs in all of his seasons, didn’t score a three-peat, could only win with a assembled super team.
Jordan never missed the playoffs in his entire career, scored two three-peats, and he was a real lead on and off the court, not to mention that his mentality was that of a real champion (which cannot be said of LeBron)

hilarious as usual shannon doesn't have a clue. says harden avg 36. that was ONE season. Jordan averaged over 30 for his career even with two seasons in washington when he was old. Jordan averages 40-45 in today's nba easy.

Look, to be scoring champion and 1st Team All-Defense is basically playing 40+ minutes intensely on both ends. MJ did this 9 times. If someone else can say this, I will listen to a comparison. He also did these things plus won a Championship and Finals MVP 6 times. Thats ridiculous. Including 1 season of scoring champ, DPOY and MVP. This is just a player that had no real weaknesses. Owns 2 of tge 4 best regular season records all time. And if you look at the playoff and Finals records, theres just no one who can match it. Just in the 1st 3 peat, did this:
1991 Finals- most consecutive field goals made at 13 (still stands Finals record)
Most assists by any players 1st NBA Finals
1991 to 1992 Finals - most assists in any players first 10 Finals game in NBA history at 91
1992- most points in a half at 35 points
Most consecutive 3 pointers made, 6 stood for 20 years
1993 - most consecutive 40 point games in Finals at 4.
Most ppg in a single Finals at 41.0 ppg
He did a lot more than this record wise but he had the most impressive career ever both team success and individually

Growing up, I hated MJ as Magic Johnson was my basketball favorite and MJ beat the lakers in the Finals.
Over the years I gained appreciation of MJ as he proved the global fans year in year out.He lead the Bulls into 2 3-peat which was
very hard in 1990s due to the parity in the basketball competitions.
Superstars in 1990s wanted to beat each other not join one another to create a superteam like superstars of today led
    by Lebron.
