December 27th, 1997. 12 year old white boy from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada lucky enough to have an uncle and aunt who lived in Highland Park, IL. Uncle told me that morning we were going out for a bite to eat that evening at “Mike’s Place”, be sure to wear your MJ jersey and Js. Evening comes and all of sudden we are close by the United Center. I still figured we were going to MJs restaurant. Start walking and suddenly we are in front of a gate to the stadium. I looked at my uncle with a weird look and said I thought we were going to “Mikes place” for supper and he replied, with the biggest smile “Yes, why do you think we are here?” I was completely and literally shocked and wasn’t sure if it was a joke. Bulls played the Hawks that night. I remember it all so very well and always will. Few things that still stand out: 1 - the intro music, that’s when I realized it was real. I asked my uncle why the crowd was booing Luc Longley every time he touched the ball and being told it was no booing but it was the crowd yelling LUuuuuuuuuuccc!! 2 - binoculars so my uncle could see the cheerleaders better 😂😂😂 3 - rodman had 29 freaking rebounds! 4 - MJ scoring 47! And Phil taking him out with lots of time left and him not hitting 50! 5 - the crowd cheering and encouraging rodman to shoot when he had the ball, especially if he was behind the 3 point line, and him doing so and hitting a 3!!!! We were in IL for Xmas and everyone knew I was going to the game, every1 kept it secret! Best Xmas present EVER and best surprise EVER! Biggest MJ fan before and bigger after! 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐😊

People don't really realize the reason why michael jordan had this aura of invincibility was because he never lost on the biggest stage, and he was always the best player on the court.

Same for me and I’m ‘93 from Chicago. Kobe kept the blueprint Jordan laid out going all the way to the end. Same reason you mentioned is why I got him #2 as well. If Jordan was Jesus, then what does that make his only student? Can’t put anybody above em. Jordan resume is ridiculous if we being honest too 🤣 10 scoring titles, 9 1st team all defense, 6 finals mvps, 6 rings, only player ever to win MVP, scoring champ, and 1st team all defense.. and he did it 4 times 🤣

I was someone who does not like basket ball prior to watching MJ on the television set. In contrast, I was a soccer fanatic. Until I was almost 21, I went to the US for my college education from Asia. One fine day in 1991 while I was switching the channels, I stumbled upon a Chicago Bulls playoff game live on NBC. This was also the season MJ and the Bulls won their first NBA title. I was totally stunned and captivated by the moves and dunks of MJ. He made the game looks articulated and beautiful. From that moment on, I totally changed my bias towards the game. I started watching MJ and the Bulls whenever they played. Prior to that, I did come across past legends on the screen, like Karim and others. To me, it was nothing but a tall man putting the ball in the net. MJ is totally different from his predecessors of the game, he is out of this world. He made the game so fascinating to watch. He is exactly like Superman performing his superpower on a basket court. He totally changed my perception of game as a sport. It is like an atheist, not believing the existence of the higher beings or the Divine until he witnessed it with his own eyes. MJ became an indelible part of my memory.

I'm old enough to have seen all the sports stars from mid-70's to present.
Kareem. Dr. J. Bird. Magic. Hakeem. Shaq. Kobe. Steph. LeBron.
In other sports. Bradshaw. Payton. Montana. Rice. LT. Manning. Elway. Brady. Mahomes.
Seaver. Rose. Schmidt. Brett. Ryan. Clemens. Rickey Henderson. Barry Bonds. Pujols. Mariano.
Lafleur. Esposito. Bossy. Gretzky. Messier. Lemieux. Roy. Brodeur. Crosby.
Pelé. Beckenbauer. Cruyff. Maradona. Ronaldo. Zidane. Ronaldino. Cristiano. Messi.
    Ali. Frazier. Sugar Ray.
    Roger Federer. Rafa Nadal. Djokovic.
    Carl Lewis.
    Michael Phelps.
    Usain Bolt.
And the greatest and most exciting athlete ever to watch was Michael Jordan. By far.

I remembered not missing a Bulls game on WGN, I needed my MJ fix 😅. The only other time its been like that for me was watching the great run the Warriors had specially when they where chasing the most wins in a season. Kurry is the 3pt GOAT, Michael was the complete package 🐐, Kobe comes in 2nd LeBron in 3rd, in my opinion.

The Bird story after the 63 definitely got the Black Jesus narrative going, love Magic’s story and Iverson’s Dave Chappelle reference is classic, if I could I would make a GIF of an aura around MJ with some Rick James playing in the background 🤣🤣 “give it to me baby”!!!

I loved watching basketball back in the day... had many dominant teams, much talent. Every year any team could of went all the way, so MJ was in a very talented pool and came out on top... that's what makes him special, along with the bulls team... I remember being excited not only to watch one team, but, to watch all the teams come out in a new season to see the fire and intensity they had to win that championship... I have never felt this way since, drama and the new Era has lost what once was... NBA is now like the WNBA, not fun to watch and people more about themselves than to build a team legacy which will lead to your own... MJ knew this and lived it everyday... he demanded it from himself and of his teammates... got to love it...

I’m from Scotland but have family in Chicago. I went to live there for 3 months back in the 1990s. Jordan was worshipped like a God. There was massive paintings of him on the sides of buildings. Down by the lake they had a museum full,of images and memorabilia belonging to him. I visited the Nike store and there was a full size basketball court and it had a statue or something in it of the man himself. Chicago was all about basketball, and they love Mike.

I had the pleasure of meeting Michael in my home town of Wheaton Illinois where he held his basketball camp. I remember him playing in a pickup game of College players and pros like, BJ Armstrong, Will Purdue, Charles Oakley and others.
The biggest impression he made on me was two fold, the fact that he played (literally) head and shoulders above everyone on the court! And his humility and humbleness, and his kind nature when I asked him at the end of what had been a long day to come over and sign some autographs for the group of handicapped adults that I had brought to see him! No black Jesus, no walking on water, just a humble guy who was very tired but took some time to sign up and chat up my group of about 12 individuals who will never forget that day!
I myself don't worship people but the one thing that made me understand how people do, is when I went out the back where my bus was parked and his black Corvette was parked and it was covered bumper to bumper with notes from women! I really felt bad for the guy, I remember how human he was, how tired and how many people were still waiting outside to try to get a piece of him!

At the end of the day, basketball is also a form of entertainment...Meaning, we pay or watch something to be entertained...So thru out history of basketball, there's been many great players with great handles, great shooters, great strong big men, big men can do things smaller men can, there's been great moves, and so on..but there's one thing that set Michael apart, the thing that he can with that extra ' HOLY SHIT ' response from the fans and that is ' in the air '.. And yes, there's been 'sky walkers ' aka David Thompson, Dr J ( who's actually my favorite, my GOAT ) but Michael seems to defy the gravity even more so and he's also quicker and faster in the air...THAT, is what I think sets him apart is what he does in the 'air' , and no human / player will ever be able to duplicate what he did.. We are more in 'awe ' when we see or think a human can fly or float...It's something we all dream of since we were kids.. Michael is the closest thing to it..
