  • During the German invasion of the Netherlands, on the 10th of May 1940, German paratroopers tried to secure the bridges at Moerdijk and Zwijdrecht. With these bridges secured, the German troops could safely advance from Brabant to Rotterdam and the Hague, the heart of the Netherlands. Dutch forces tried to prevent the German advance at Dordrecht. During these hostilities approximately 300 soldiers (of which 100 German) and 60 civilians died. This makes Dordrecht one of the bloodiest battle grounds of the Dutch campaign.
This films shows a reconstruction of some of the most crucial military actions during the battle for Dordrecht.
