Holy shit, the Grotto beasts commercial was insanely well done
only complaint is the sound design was missing a lot, but they didn't have anyone doing audio in the credits, so the editor probably had to pull double duty between video and audio. (for example, bugleberry eating the cards should have had additional audio, same for the small child thrusting his card towards the camera, jerma in the balloon is also missing additional foley like ropes creaking, the basket swinging and stretching, etc.)
Pretty insane the amount of effort put into that commercial just for some NFTs

@@dan_loeb I do agree, I loved the commercial regardless but even like some of that classic barely coherent, jumbled up ambient sound a lot of old toy commercials had would have been a good addition. But like you said, we don't know the specifics of how production exactly went, it could even be likely that the lack of foley work could have been intentional, so no judgement from me.
Turning into a car is either the most pleasurable or most excruciating experience imaginable.

it's probably from a sound ideas or Hollywood edge sound library, i don't own as many of their older libraries, but i wouldn't be suprised if it was part of the series 6000 or 8000 from sound ideas, or from one of the premiere edition collections from Hollywood edge. the sound was first seen in films in the late 60's and early 70's, and sound ideas was founded by a lot of older sound designers who brought their work with them, same for Hollywood edge, but they also buy the rights to other sound designers private collections on top of that. some sounds in left 4 dead still have their sound ideas/ hollywood edge metadata embedded in the wav files.

@@cojoinmojo524 the little locking bits on the end of the door do look somewhat microwave like, and rotating trays were not a feature back then i get it, but it's entirely lacking the rounded edges unibody interior that was in every microwave in the 80's. the prop department looks to have maybe put a microwave door on a regular wooden cabinet so they could get an easy camera angle.

well we did have a problem in america with the elderly eating dog food and i wanna say the marketing around a lot of them was changed around the 80/90s. it is very clear that dog food commercials are for dogs now, whereas before you could probably make the argument for someone who wasn't fully aware, it could have been a commercial saying how good a meat is

When that first car ad passed by, I could barely remember anything but the dummy family and had already passed it by in my brain but Jerma somehow perfectly retains the very frame of the family charging headfirst into a wall and was already almost smirking as he recalled it. A story about that Turbo Teen Car-TF cartoon: i have a friend who worked in animation in the 1980s, when the makers of Transformers were shopping for an animation studio who could draw their cartoon.
They pitched Transformers to the studio, and the executives decided they werent interested in the project. As soon as the Transformers pitch-guys left, the CEO said "you know, i just got a GREAT idea! What if there were teenagers who could transform into cars?". Everyone in the boardroom clapped and approved of the elderly CEOs idea, and they got to work on it.
So the animators initally were really into the idea, but they needed things clarified; "so how do the kids actually transform into the cars? What triggers this transformation, and are they able to control it? What about fuel, what if they run out of gasoline, or what if the teen gets hungry, what happens then?"
The CEO and higher ups didnt think these things through and honestly didnt care, they left it up to the animation staff, and nobody really knew what to do. The thing was, they couldnt use any of the ideas that were pitched in the Transformers pitch, like how they mechanically are able to change shape. So thats why everything in Turbo Teen looks horrifying body horror. It was an elderly rich mans cheap rip-off of Transformers.

I went to private school in fourth grade and at the end of the year we had this outdoor day with a massive slip n slide they put like out in the woods. It was literally just a giant sheet of rubber that like five kids could slide down at once and it was a mistake. My friend slit his entire hand open on the edge of the slide and there were rocks and shit under the sheet that bruised you on the way down
I was hoping so badly that the compilation was going to sneak in one of the advertisements from robocop / robocop 2, would have been a great bit of shock
