As for the tip for making it better: measure up the holes and get universal hood vents that fit over them and fit the styling of the car somewhat. Make exact cuts measuring properly and file down the edges. Paint the exposed metal with a silver paint corrector. Get color matched paint from a store, prep, primer, paint and clearcoat the universal hood vents, then use a liquid sealant to fix them in place - after measuring and making sure they are properly aligned.

I guess it swings both ways eh. Just like china is allowed to make shit quality products and we are almost forced to purchase this crap. Most of the time its got nothing to do with being a dumbass when some advertisements for some of these products boast unreal events. Mostly car adds the completely brainwash people into buying their crap, which most vehicles are just that fuking garbage. As far buying products for vehicles, I believe most are sold by the snakeoil salesman himself. Its mostly bullshit and supported by consumer protection agents who are shills to begin with. Your right, we have to look after ourselves and watch out what we buy, however there is a blatant scam going on here that needs to be addressed.

Some are scam products designed to feed off the ignorant and some are made off of a brand name products line, but sold under a generic name. Possible brand name rejects due to not meeting specific tolerances and just sold under a generic name to help cover production costs.

autobotguy Cold air intake and sport exhaust systems with luck you have 10hp more.
Also using performance chips on a n/a doesn't do a lot.
The fun starts when you turbo-charge, forced induction, good exhaust system, custom ecu plus other crank, mod the vtec timing... so basically spend around 10k on it and you might double the horse power - but then it's not VTec what kicked in ;)

I was personally very surprised that MX5 had just switch style TP sensor. I laughed.
On real chips you are paying programming and not "chips" because chips just cost 2 to 8 dollars a piece (not to mention those which need some logic chip making talking between ecu). Today OBD programming / Flash so not anymore chips either (OBD flash tools are costly thou).

If you order mystery shit off of ebay, of course it's going to be a scam. In the real world that the rest of us live in, cars with non-flashable or programmable computers have to have the "chip" that controls the car replaced in order to change the tune of the car, and there is nothing mysterious or fake about it. What's next, a 30 minute video explaining why i shouldn't order chinese paint with lead in it off of ebay, to paint an infant's crib? Anyone with common sense doesn't need this video.

I can't even tell you how many young guys on my BMW forums, and 5series get their hands on a car, or even want to chip their parents car, and they're always asking "is this true?" " will I really be able to make 350 whp in my dads E60 525i?" Lol. Its ok of funny. These guys need someone to explain it to them. I can't stand answering their questions, only to have them argue with me afterwards because they can't stand the fact that the I hopes for 60 whp gain and 30 mpg after a $20 "upgrade" from China. Yeah, because some guy in China knows some secret the engineers didnt what he soldered a small capacitor on some other shit lmfao. Have a good one.

The whole point of this video is be informative and make for an interesting show. If the title had been, lets test this fake chip off eBay to see if it is fake, then it would be boring.
By making the show about saying, look, I bought a cheap chip off ebay, it claims this and as we have the tools available to us, we are going to test it to show you once and for all if it does what it promises us.
As they said at the end, if a mate had bought and fitted one, just driving around, they will never be able to quantify any gains, and wishful thinking might have people thinking that it actually did something too.

Lassi Kinnunen Yeah, I dont know if it was all that clear in my comment, but I know cars pretty well. Im a full on gear head myself. Im familiar with the theory, so no need to explain. My problem with this subject is that people confuse the idea of chipping a car, and reprogramming, or replacing an ECU. They dont seem to understand that you can buy a performance "chip" thats been engineered for your vehicle but, a $20 chip on craigslist cant delivered on these extreme promises of huge power and fuel gains.

+Carbon 12 Pretty apparent that the chip in question does not do what is advertised and is a scam with just lights on it.

+Bill Hatcher to most people it was pretty obvious before they even hooked it up,anything that thing could have possibly done could have been done with a diode or resistor and some basic knowledge of a cars ecu plain and simple.Realistically on a boosted car you can get 20 hp with such a mod too...........a simple one to look at for example would be the 1.8t golfs, just google diode mod and youll see what i mean.

+SouthJerseySound If people are dumb enough to splice into their ECU with an unknown $20 chip from Ebay, they deserve what happens to them. Just saying.

Thanks! You just saved me $59 USD on one that promised 60 HP and 6 MPG gains. The saved money will go into my new exhaust where I'll see gains using tangible performance parts.
