  • In this episode, Bob Papa and Carl Banks discuss a recent tweet from Bob that wasn't related to Daniel Jones and sparked backlash from Giants fans. They talk about why it's counterproductive for fans to root against Jones. They explore Daniel Jones's challenges over the years, highlighting the lack of stability from coaching and inadequate support on the field. By comparing the Giants' situation to other franchises, they shed light on why fans need to appreciate what this storied franchise has accomplished. Lastly, they touch on Hard Knocks' during this 100th season and how fans will see behind-the-scenes access during the off-season. #tellafriendtotellafriend

I've been a Giants fan since Y. A. Tittle was our guy. I NEVER hope for any Giants player to fail because I bleed blue and always will. To wish for failure would be the same as wishing someone in my family fails. I've seen it all through the years. Fans are fickle, particularly when they become frustrated. And sometimes owners are influenced by the fans when they shouldn't be. It's a good thing Phil Simms was not drafted in this era. In the case of Daniel Jones I believe it is a number of factors, most of which were not his doing. The question now is how to put him back together.
Daniel Jones was panned for being drafted too high. Right from the start fans were told he would be a bust by every pundit out there. They wanted Haskins instead. But after the 2019 season hopes were high. People now forget that he performed near the top of his rookie class.
So what happened? He was faced with a change (the enemy of all young QBs) in coaching, a new system and lack of a WR1. A line that could not protect him. He went from a QB friendly system to one that was stale by today's NFL standards. In 2022 he was rescued by a new coach that was experienced in developing QBs. He was rejuvenated, but the roster still was a work in progress that the new GM, with limited salary cap space, could not fix overnight. Last year, the roof caved in from game 1. The opening game was a textbook example of Murphy's Law, and it didn't get better due to an early schedule from hell. Throw in the cumulative effect of key injuries on the O-line, which lacked adequate depth and it was almost an act of mercy that the ACL injury stopped the beatings.
This year is the pivotal one for Daniel Jones. I, for one, will root for him to prove all the doubters wrong. And, after all, isn't that the best outcome for our beloved Giants? Isn't that what every fan should want? Not needing to be searching for the next QB, but to continue to fill this roster with talent at all the other positions? Not setting us back, but moving forward? If you want anything different then you should root for another team.

    • @j.r.3945
      @j.r.3945 Před 8 hodinami

Last year was the pivotal one for him. This year is just a countdown until his tenure in NY ends. He’s a dead man walking atp. Once the man got paid the excuses went out the window. The personal attacks on the guy are horrid and uncalled for he’s always done his best but he’s just not good enough to be the leader of the giants and never really was. The fans that hate him don’t truly hate him, they just see him as the face of everything wrong with the team who’s been the laughingstock of the league since Eli retired. And that makes them bitter. And as the qb he’s the biggest target for all that bitterness. A lot of it is warranted his play has been far from good. Much of it is unfair. Regardless, being the qb of an nfl team this comes with the territory. So I’m not gonna feel bad for a guy who strong armed a franchise into giving him $100+ million. He refused to take a cheaper deal and right now his contract is the cause of about half the roster deficiencies

The thing I hate the most is people over look the amazing plays DJ has made. He has had some legitimately good games. He doesn’t have the fantasy stats but if you actually watch the games, he makes big plays with his feet. He keeps drives alive and doesn’t lose you games by having three or four turnovers like we see another QBs, like Trevor, Lawrence, etc. I have seen a lot of people bring up 300 yards passing games, as if that is somehow a barometer for winning. I just remember him taking the Giants 94 yards against the Packers, but Saquon injured on the sideline. I remember him making a clutch throw in the back of the end zone to tie the game against the Vikings in the regular season, remember him making clutch plays to close out the Titans game. Thank you Carl Banks & Bob Papa for posting this video. I was one of the Giants fans who was ready to give up on Daniel Jones after the horrific 2023 season. After seeing the way in which DJ has recovered from the ACL injury he suffered last season is amazing. That type of injury has ended many other QB's careers in the past, but Jones had the diligence and determination to fight his way back to nearly being ready to return to the field during training camp. I admire his determination, and he's held his head high with class through all of the media questions about last season.
I'm really glad that Joe Schoen and Brandon Brown acquired some quality OL veterans to aid that invisible OL from last season. With the money they gained from the unfortunate retirement of Darren Waller I hope they'll seek some more additions for the depth of the OL.

No, Banks and Papa. We shouldn’t settle as fans for this. The standards and the bar should be a hell of a lot higher. Hes had enough excuses. Enough do-overs. Enough second chances.
Either prove it or get shipped off this year. Period. Taylor and DeVito, a journeyman and a non-factor, played better under center when given the opportunity. This was with the offensive line struggling and the same weapons on the field.
The Giants invested a ton in free agency to bring in more talent along the line. They drafted the best wideout we’ve had since OBJ. Jones has ZERO, and I mean ZERO, excuses.
Will I root for him to succeed? Sure. But I’m not holding my breath that he’s all of a sudden going to have things click. His best season in 2022 was still pedestrian compared to the upper echelons of quarterbacks in the league.

I was in college when the Giants won the '86 Superbowl. After he went down the ship began to wright, and the season wasn't over until the Giants lost to the Saints, because 83.333% of the Giants success came on the shoulder of the back-ups. You can NOT convince me that if Parcells were here that Jones wouldn't have been riding the bench long before he was injured (not a knock on Dabol). I fact, let me clarify that Schone and Dabol need to stay put and finish building the team. ........IF you put Daniel Jones on the field, then defenses will continue where they left off and bull rush him and keep coming until he cracks (which shouldn't take long If fans get humiliated again (not to mention the whole injury clause thing), then you WILL see fans go "GOOFY" to the power of ten! Daniel Jones is not an asset he IS a liability. The reality is we have 3 back-up QBs and no legitimate #1 QB. I'm good with that for now, as long as the Giants organization owns reality. Unfortunately Carl we live in the social media era where almost everything is made to look way better or way worse then it actually is and clicks/views drive people. The giants are a well established organization so it’s easy for people to push narratives to our “fans” and those same fans feed into anything negative because social media has skewed the reality of everything and if we aren’t a highlight reel of a team or have the perfect QB who puts up the most stats every year, they become outraged and angered, ignoring the reality of the teams situation and the outliers of said team

Idk about everyone else, but I’m more worried about DJ’s injury history more than anything. I do believe he can improve his play compared to his previous years, but he needs to be on the field consistently just like he needs a consistent coaching philosophy in order to make that happen.

With his contract, I’d be willing to stick with DJ if he’d take a significant pay cut to allow Schoen to improve the roster.
What worries me is if he gets injured again he’ll be on the books for 2025 and we’ll be back at square one with him again, which is why I didn’t fault Schoen for reportedly making a strong push to trade up for Drake Maye during the draft.

Of course my comment is 3 wks later. But, oh well...I think the 2-3 factors are, we live in a "do it now culture." I think social media is a huge factor, but we have this do it now instead of wait later mentality. The second reason is fantasy football. Fantasy football fans don't realize it takes a team effort in order for superstars to generate those fantasy points. Third reason, we come from Ny. Ny is a win-now culture.
    Those are my thoughts.

They just sick of his poor play and constant excuses. Once he got paid to be an elite quarterback there are no excuses he better produce and he didn’t. Idc how bad the blocking was. Idc who’s catching passes. Idc that you’re hurt. If you’re getting paid that much you better produce and he instead had the worst stretch of play in his career. He’s not as bad as people are making him out to be he’s gonna be in the league a long time barring injury, but most fans knew he wasn’t worth a big contract and didn’t deserve it. They’re sick of watching him play sub par almost every week. No teams respect his passing ability. Not a single one. He doesn’t deserve the hate but it’s New York when you’re good you’re great when you’re bad you’re awful and he’s certainly been the latter. I understand being angry having to see your favorite team trot out a guy who clearly should’ve been off the team two years ago and feeling hopeless. The giants were the third worst team in the league last year according to almost every metric and they were at their worst with Daniel under center. Happy he got his money good for him I hope he goes on to have a great career and life, however he absolutely cannot be the quarterback of the New York giants after this year

It wasn't like he was blowing opportunities HE WASN'T GETTING THEM.Watch him this year with the best WR group by far he's ever had.Hopefully a defense that is much better than it was last year. And a solid line.

Great Show as always AND as ALWAYS Carl Banks #58 ROLB Michigan State Spartans To Be Put In The Pro Football Hall Of Fame Next to his partner in crime Lawrence Taylor.. We gotta start a serious internet campaign drum up support...
I bought my Daniel Jones jersey right after the draft. Cheered him on, watched games at Duke liked what I saw...then during the Joe Judge years he not only regressed but any spark of aggressiveness was lost..The Tampa game '19 stands as the promise of Jones, but Shurmur had one foot out of the door...Jason Garrett's stagnant offense and Judge's oppressive overbearing coaching style, poor offensive line play, along with Jones' issues with processing, slow eyes, and now including the lack of aggressiveness in attacking 15:05 a defense threatening to go down field whether with Nabers, Hyatt, and Slayton, if he still with the team, Tracy, Jr., Johnson or Miller...But, unfortunately Jones is broken. Oh he'll look good in Training Camp but when the live ammo starts flying around, he'll rush his throws not scan the field, tries to run the 'B' gap. But the defense is aware of that aspect of his game. So now what does he do for an encore of '22?? That's my Daniel Jones concern....We got speed real threatening the whole field change field position or having two play drives type of speed, threatening every PR/KO speed and elusiveness...I honestly believe that if we can maintain our health, where nobody misses 4+ games or no season enders, the Giants in the 100th anniversary year WILL win 11 games and look real good doing it and Jones plays to his strengths like that Tampa Bay game.
And no...I didn't forget the Giants defensive additions Shane Bowen a more conservative coach but more cerebral than Wink Martindale which I think plays to the newfound players now on defense. Burns screaming around the edge, Sexy Dex pushing the center into the QB's lap, Thibs, now with someone who can push him above the numbers, really breaks out and be that closer he wants to be..Okereke the tackle machine gets another young LB to take under his wing, along with steady McFadden, who should be even better in Bowen's system, as it's a lot like what he played in college. Our secondary took a big hit losing McKinney at safety, but getting Tyler Nubin takes a lot of concern away with his exceptional Football I.Q., his athleticism took a hit at the combine and pro day because of a clean-up procedure on one of his knees and affected his forty time. But, wise man says, 'tape don't lie'. 'Te Banks coming off a good rookie season will also be playing a defense more aligned with his total skill set. And playing more zone principles will allow Banks to get his hands on INTs this year. Picking up Phillips in the 3rd Rd evens out the CB room. Flott, Phillips, ànd McCloud makes for a good versatile group at the CB2/ Nickel position...and now the Specialty Teams again, like the defense has: new coach Michael Ghobrial and new athletic additions in Muasau, Tracy, Jr, and Dante (4.2)Miller and perhaps the new TE Theo Johnson as well.
Gunnar Olsewski holds down the PR duties, hats off to Player Personnel Dept. for that mid season acquisition. Now for the elephant in the room: Offensive Line. Never will it be said that Schoen has thrown a ton of resources to address the OLine issues. Welcome Carmen Briscillio to the Giants. And a welcome to Jon Runyan, Jr Jermaine Elumenor the new free agents that I have high hopes for being the best interior linemen that we've had in a long while... Briscillio's big task is fixing Evan Neal's issues with balance in pass protection. This IS IT...he has to play up to his draft status. Usually, I don't think about when a player is drafted, if you can play, then you can play. It's still the same game you played as a kid middle school high school college, now you're with the big boys, time to 'Big Boy Up'. PLAY LIKE IT!!! Adding the Ferentz kid from Iowa as Asst OLine coach was probably the biggest low-key addition. I think he is here specifically for Neal. And we have depth with NFL experience.
Well that's all. I love my Giants...bled blue since 3-12-1 Parcells' first, nearly last, season as the Big Tuna. 🏆🏆🏆🏆💯🙏🏆

Listen everyone. Daniel Jones is great. He's my favourite member of the Monkees. Then it's Micky Dolenz but that's because people say I look like him. Shit.

Why root for someone you don’t believe in? Why go into the SIXTH year trying to tell yourself that a guy who clearly isn’t good enough to get the job done and force yourself to root for him? I for one root for the giants, but I want no part of Daniel jones.

To all u haters out there just look at all the failures that can’t miss first rounders flopped. Sanchez. Donaldson. Wilson. Even Eli in his last 2 yrs was terrible because he was getting pounded on almost every play jones is a decent quarterback never had great receivers how many balls were dropped and how many interceptions came from the ball bouncing off the receivers hands remember engram he dropped a lot of passes. Right in his hands. Also Reese and gettleman ruined this team for years

Only thing more ridiculous than the DJ hate is the UGLY commemorative jerseys that Giants are rolling out this season for the 100th anniversary. They're supposed to wear them twice, which is 2 too many. Wear them in the Germany game where there'll be less exposure and forget about wearing them the second time.
