    This was one of the greatest runs in NFL history. The Giants, a wild card team, had to win 3 games on the road to get to the Super Bowl, then they beat an undefeated Patriots team. Remarkable.

      On the road. Playing 3 teams that had byes, including both 1's. In the reg season NYG went a combined 0-4 against their playoff opponents. They then beat an 18-0 team, making the pkay off the century in the process.
      Everyone is going to get amped up about their team's run, and they should, but there was nothing like what the 2007 NYG did.

But it was so much more at the same time. This particular game is historic to me. To beat Brett Favre and Romo. Then to defeat the 18-0 Patriots...you can't explain the feeling as a NYG fan. The 2007 Giants were easily one of the grittiest teams in NFL history. The epic journey they had to take to get to Super Bowl XLII was astonishing. They had to play on the road the whole time, including this game, which I think was or is the second coldest game in NFL history, only the '67 Ice Bowl was colder. Other than Super Bowl XLII, This game was also really awesome, just because of the conditions they had to play in.

    • @tomknapp6194
      @tomknapp6194 Před 5 měsíci

      @@nedneedlemeyer3615 Yeah, playing16 years with even below average results will do that.
      He had a top 10 passer rating once in 16 years. He was below the NFL average 9 times. He was 3.8 or less over the NFL average in 5 of the other 7 times. So, in 16 years, he had 2 years that were somewhat over the average. I don't see in what universe that makes a QB great.
      In 2018, Eli's last full year, I did a comparison between Eli and Ben Roethlisberger and Philip Rivers and they were al 6th, 7th, and 8th all time. Only BR needed 807 FEWER attempts to have more yards and more TDs than Eli. That's almost 2 fewer seasons worth of attempts to have more than Eli. PR needed 972 fewer attempts to have more TDs and slightly fewer yards.
      And that's basically Eli's career. His stat to make the most top 10 each season? Attempts. Not yards. Not completion percentage. Not yards/attempt. Not TDs. Not TD percentage. Just attempts.
      That alone shouldspeak volumes.

      Do you think the Packers would have survived against the 18-0 Pats? The main reason they lost to the Giants was because they had played against each other weeks before and the Giants had an insane blitz defense (that was also reading Brady's play changes from the line of scrimmage). I wanted the packers to win this because I'm certain my Pats would have gone 19-0. Giants were the WORST team they could have faced in SB 42. Cowboys or Packers would have been just fine, plus Brady vs Favre? Now that's a dream matchup that will never be.

      @@michaelkirschner6009 What did Eli actually do? In 2007, he played the Cowboys, Packers, and Patriots in both regular season and postseason. The Giants defense was destroyed in those 4 games, giving up an average of 38 points, Romo scored 4 TDs twice, Favre also had 4 TDs, and only 1 game was not a double digit loss.
      Then in the playoffs, Eli averages LESS per game than those blowouts and he's the hero? Not the defense, that handed Romo, Favre, and Brady one of their worst games of the year...... And Eli still barely managed to win.
      In fact, that's the story of Eli's playoff career. In 5/8 games, he had to rely on pro bowl QBs to absolutely not show up and still win by 4 or less points. 2 of those went to overtime. Eli's combined overtime stats for those 2 games were 3/7, 17 yards, 1 sack for -10 yards, so 7 yards total. And on the "game winning drives" that Eli received credit for, out of 7 snaps, not including the actual FG, Eli was a combined 0/1. Credit for 2 game winning drives for literally doing nothing.
      Eli was 100% carried by the defense through most of those playoffs. Outside of that, he was below average for 16 years.
      Those are the facts, and Eli should never be mentioned in the same breath as the HoF except how he should never be in it.

    I remember saying, "okay. Tynes missed the last two close ones, there's no way he's gonna make it from that far out." I had to wait for the refs to put their arms up to signal, it's good. I'm screaming, "OMG! OMG! OMG! THE GIANTS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!" Two weeks later, I didn't even care if they won the Super Bowl. I was just happy they were there. But to do the unthinkable? This game and the Super Bowl victory made me so proud to be a Giants fan. G-Men for life! GO BIG BLUE!

      Ouch. I saw comic Bill Burr in Boston a few years ago and Paul Virzi opened for BB and he made an absolutely filthy joke about the Patriots and what the Giants did to them in those 2 SBs. Busted a gut, in front of my laughing sister into the bargain.
