216000 miles on my Toyota Avalon 03, reliable couch on wheels!
My 03 buick lesabre is a more comfortable couch on wheels
My 04 Avalon was wrecked today. So so sad to lose it. It was a great great car.
@@askmeab0utmylobotomy
I had a customer who had a 2013 Mazda CX-5 with 350,000 miles on it and ran perfectly no leaks and ran like it was new.
My first car was a 2000 Avalon with 206,000 on it when I sold it. I loved it, now I drive a 2015 Kia Forte, which is a great little car, but not made for comfort like the Avalon. Forte is much better on gas and fairly reliable, but the Avalon can take a licking and keep on ticking. I baby the Forte because I know how to do maintenance myself now and I'm not 16 anymore, but if I didn't it probably wouldn't hold up like the Avalon did. I didn't even need to get rid of it, I just wanted something better on gas.
My sister bought a brand new Avalon back in 2000. Still has it however it got an engine swap. Which the mechanic she took it to said it was the oddest thing he had ever seen cause he had never seen a Toyota with only 110k miles need a new engine. Mustâve been a 1 in a million type of thing. However she put one in with 76k miles and it runs like new.
I work at a Domino's and literally 90% of my co-workers' cars are Toyotas, most of them being the same gen Corolla you mentioned (the pic, that is). There's also two 5th gen Camrys. I myself drive a 3rd gen Camry. Only bad thing about Toyotas is you can't call out of work with the excuse of your car being broke down lmao
More Avalons on the road with over 200k than any other sedan. US, Asian, German, whatever....
The 3rd gen Camry is pretty legendary. I had a 2nd gen (1990) myself. Doesn't sound like a "car guy" thing to admit, but I miss that car. It went everywhere. It was still on the road a few years ago.
My 2004 Avalon has 360k and still runs strong
@@2003saga my 92 Camry blew it's head gasket 2 weeks ago with 378k miles. Loved that car.

I would too that's what makes interesting for he's videos. falls
Naa fam, call me when he buy that Daewoo.
2 weeks later "I LS swapped the cheapest RX8 in the country!"
My first car was a 92' Toyota paseo and it was an amazing car! I bought it for $800 and it ran up to 300,000 before the timing belt broke. I 100% agree with the wizard, Toyota all the way!
Timing belt is regular maintenance, like an oil change. Why would you let it break? That care would have kept going!
@@rars0n literally, dude couldâve got 500k miles. Knowing toyotas and hondas, that was probably the original belt. Crazy to think that it lasted that long
@@givenchyoverall Hondas and Toyotas are not immune to normal wear. Even a chain will stretch over time. I've never heard of a timing belt that lasted 300,000 miles. Dude bought it for $800, so it's likely the previous owners weren't as careless with the maintenance as he was.
@@rars0n Well, seeing as the 92 Paseo was a 1.5L 5E-FE engine, which is NON-INTERFERENCE, a broken timing belt isn't a deal breaker at all. In fact, the engine would just need to be rotated back to TDC and a new timing belt installed.
But it's free-running, so no damage (ie valves hitting pistons) would have occurred, leaving the engine perfectly running.
I had the same problem on my '89 Reliant, timing belt went kablooie at 200K on the 2.2L .. didn't know it was a non-interference engine, and scrapped the car because the mechanic said the engine was likely pooched, because he didn't realize it's non-interference, and I was ignorant of that at the time.
likely the OPs experience was not much different... Ignorance on a car he bought for next to nothing, with a repair that would far-outweigh the value of the vehicle, especially one with 300K miles..
Can't fault him, I mean... 300K with the original belt is unreal! He definitely got his $800 out of that little scrapper.. Likely the guy that got the car off him threw a belt on and started driving it again.
A Honda Accord is also a good reliable sedan. I own a 2007 Accord 4cyl with 133K miles on it and it still runs like a dream. For longevity, I would buy a 4cyl model over a V6 due to higher maintenance cost(timing belt replacement mostly) and depending on the model year, some of the V6's were known for transmission issues as well.
Def i would go for an 2018 Accord 2.0T. Its powefull, its zippy to drive, modern, reliable as most Hondas, well made and beautiful.
Honda automatics are so and so, if you need to buy an automatics, make sure they are properly maintained with receipts. I was about to buy a 1998-2000 V6 accord until i heard horror stories with the auto transmission because they are not durable, often previous owners will abused it with lack of maintenance, aggressive manual shifting or not properly making a full stop while shifting from reverse to forward. I have a co-worker with a Japanese made 2000 Prelude with automatic with select shift, it conked out at for about 70 miles, he spent 2K replacing it with a salvage one and that one as well conked out in a few months.
It's incredible how much your production quality has improved since you began

Back in the 90's I got a second hand Daewoo that Pontiac rebadged and called the LeMans. I have good feelings toward it since it was my first reliable car, though that was probably due to it being the first car I owned which was less than 10 years old. I wonder of others did OK with that car.

Itâs so funny because I own the exact same color on the Nissan Altima and the Corolla mostly likely same year..my Nissan 2012 its at 120k and no issues at all just regular maintenance...and my 2010 Toyota Corolla is at 190k and absolutely no issues other than just the alternator and regular maintenance...yes Iâve been blessed with my vehicles since I bought them new and never hesitated on maintenance or repairs needed ..one thing Iâve learned is that if you take care of your vehicle itâll take care of you..

In Oct 2018, I traded in my '02 LeSabre (3800 series 2 engine) for a '11 Equinox. Three weeks later, the main seal went. The dealer agreed to an exchange and I went to a '10 Toyota Rav4. That Rav4 is the best vehicle I have ever owned.
Those Equinoxes are hot garbage. The 4 cylinders are garbage. Theyâre disposable shitboxes.
Smart move. While the RAV4 is no Subaru in the snow, it's more reliable, and the V-6 version is quick for a SUV
Smart move. I had a 'hand me down' 2010 Equinox, and a 2009 Rav4 V6 4WD. Offered my son choice when he was driving age - he choose the RAV4 (sad face here). 5 years later the Equinox is gone (that thing needed yearly wrenching to keep it going), and I was afraid to go over 4,000 rpm as it might just fly apart. I now have the RAV4 back as my son's moved out (Navy). 140K+ and still going strong. Best vehicle I ever owned. Finally replaced the serpentine belt at 138K, it still looked fine, no cracks or splits. Just because 138K is a lot for a belt. Just brakes, oil changes, and other fluid changes (transmission, differential, transfer case, coolant), along with routine maintenance, I'm expecting 200K+. Runs like a champ to this day.
I had a 2001 LeSabre and a 2005 LeSabre with the 3.8L. I traded them both off at 200,000 miles. I wish I would have kept running both of them. They got 27-28 mpg and I never stuck any money into them other than a howling wheel bearing at 175,000 miles($73 to do both of them on the front end myself) and only did oil changes.

Somewhat true but the 1.6 and 1.8l engines in P11 Nissan Primeras were mostly the same as used in P12 and those things eat oil like crazy and that causes them to have quite severe failures.
Yeah, I had 1997 Altima it made to 240k
Not Renault's fault that the quality went to shit
Note to self: don't buy any car with a rotary engine.
My dad's RX-3 was so darned fun to drive. I loved seeing the engine rev and the Wankel go hmm as the speed went past 50mph in 2nd gear. On the other hand, the darned engine seized due to a small seal becoming dislodged... So, not the most reliable car out there. But fun to drive.
You need to be very passionate about rotaries for them to be worth it
I own an RX8, if you have a fairly basic set of tools and an internet connection, ownership isn't difficult. There's so many DIY walkthroughs on forums that will help you with whatever you need to do. Just throw in a thicker radiator, take care of your ignition system and you'll be fine. It's a very rewarding experience, and you get to beat the piss out of it :)
IMMA TELL YOU ANYWAY
They are project engines. Crazy fun but impractical in every way other than the fact it takes gasoline.
The one thing to remember about Subaru or anything with AWD, you have to keep the tires rotated and they have to be the same make/model, or a matched set. Tire diameter and tread depth are extemely important with AWD systems, and mismatched tires or tread depth can kill the transfer case/PTU/viscous coupler on these cars. I was a Subaru master tech, and I have had plenty of arguments with car owners who had mismatched or badly worn tires, and they had chatter on turns. They would say I was full of crap, and just trying to sell tires.
Thank you for the good advice. D all the tires have to match even if the car has a modern AWD system?
I always wondered if it's more economical to get a fwd car, winter tires for the snow, and save money on fuel with the fwd. Plus I've seen a video of AWD Ford Escape vs FWD and snow tires, and the snow tires seemed to be better in the snow. I'm not sure if they had summer tires or all season tires though
Oh yeah, would a matched set mean that you can have different tires in the front and the back?
Sorry but I find it a bit strange comparing a Civic to a RX-8, it should be more Civic VS Mazda 3.
Alexandre Couture His comparisons were super strange. Corollas and Altimas do not compete directly, nor do Camrys and Maximas. Also, since when was anyone looking to buy a Daewoo leganza? I bet thereâs less than a few thousand of those that still run and drive in America.
@@97I30T I agree. Love the idea of the video but the execution, research, and model needs some work. Needs to be more categorized like you would find on a car buying website.
@@97I30T I think this video was a bit tongue in cheek, as the youth of today say.
I think the Civic vs Mazda 3 comparison doesn't have a clear winner. Comparing a Corolla to Sentra is a landslide victory for the Toyota though.

The man is giving us good advice. I did listen to a mechanic friend of mine and I asked him what would be a good car for my daughter. He said to get a Corolla. This was back in 2012. I found a 2010 CE, with traction control, with only 30,000 KM. My daughter is rough on cars. The car now has 220,000 KM on it and I went over it and found a torn CV joint boot, leaking drivers strut front, bearing gone on the driver's side, brakes needed doing and a few other things. I had to replace the alternator about 2 years ago. Frankly, an easy job on a Corolla takes about 1 hour and is a good time to replace the serpentine belt at the same time. So I decided to do the repairs myself and do some proactive maintenance at the same time. Replaced both struts with KYB strut kits, replaced both CV axels, replaced both front wheel bearings,( I had a shop I know press in new bearings,$60.00). I decided to replace the stabilizer links, ball joints, and outer tie rods, New sparkplugs, when you remove the CV axels on a Corolla about 4 quarts of transmission fluid comes out, so replacing it with 4 quarts of new transmission fluid is like a full fluid change in my books. The thing I find working on the Corolla is that it is an easy vehicle to work on. All the nuts bolts etc are of better quality than my Infiniti M 35X. The Corolla is a well thought out vehicle. I doubt the right strut would have needed to be replaced if she had not hit a very large pothole, I had noticed a large dent in the rim on the cars drivers side. I was able to order all the parts I needed from Rockauto, I only had to go to a Toyota dealership for the transmission fluid. I will have to replace the Infiniti soon so I think a Toyota product will be its replacement. The trusty 2006 Subaru Outback still looks good and runs well. I actually like the car, so I will keep it.
I was worried my Subaru outback would be a thumbs down. Iâm relieved to see it got the thumbs up. I think the one issue with them is the CVT transmission⊠The dealership will tell you it is âlifetimeâ on oil changes, but donât listen to them. Check the CVT oil every 30 K miles as the service manual suggests, and change it if it looks dirty. I would automatically change it at the first 50, and 100 K miles, From that point on you can do a âspill n fillâ every 20 to 30 K. Mine is it 180 K, and I plan on keeping it till the wheels fall off. Iâd be surprised if that happens before 250 K.
And none of my independent mechanics wanna change the fluid cause they say its "too complex". Guess im doing it myself.
@@villadelrefugio What âmechanicâ told you that? That would be a red flag for me, I wouldnât use that mechanic.
If they donât have a fluid exchange machine, that could be an acceptable reason, but is the same procedure using that machine with other vehicles. Most shops just drain the pan and add fluid back to the pan which accounts for about 50% of the total transmission fluid. Fluid exchange machine recovers and replaces all of the transmission fluid. I had to seek out a shop that had one. From there Iâve just replaced the fluid in the pan myself. Simple.
I think back when Subaru started using CVTs they had a few problems, but I don' think there are many problems in recent years. The mechanic I use is a Subaru master mechanic who used to work at dealerships but has an independent shop now. He said he hasn't seen any more CVT problems than he's seen in automatics.

I've had my Toyota 4 a long time..Going on 300,000..I still luv this car..Very few problems..
My Nissan Altima has been my reliable daily for 6 years.
But it's a 1994.
You have that KA24DE in it which has a proper timing chain, an iron block, aluminum heads, hydraulic lifters, and is really more suited to being a small TRUCK engine with all the torque it has. The engine that replaced it requires fiddly maintenance that no one does, so Nissan cashes in on that now.
You have a nissan not a renault
@@cellphonelightsaber You're not the first one to call it a "truck engine" and I concur that it is a workhorse, more so than particularly smooth or a sports car engine. It's torquey, tough, dependable and simple. The amount of craigslist ads I see for 3rd gen Altimas that have received new engines is surprising.
Timing chain is a nightmare though it says 16hrs n the shop manual if i remember correctly
Thatâs a Nissan, not a renault
I would love to see a 90's vs today reliability comparison along with cost
Yessir
80s to 90s seem more reliable then today's 2010 to 2020's vehicles.
I have a 2004 Toyota Sienna with 350,00 miles. I've had it for 8 years and put over 150,000 miles on it. Aside from basic maintenance, it's needed a front right wheel bearing, an ignition coil (1 out of 6), and new radiator fans. That's it. 350,000 miles and I've spent less than $1,000 on unscheduled repairs. Oh, and the van doesn't leak anything! As you like to say, It's as reliable as a rock. You get up in the morning and the rock is still a rock. đ
The flipside to the RX-8 is that rotary engines are not that complicated. They're actually a lot easier to work on than piston engines. So if you're willing and able to learn a little bit, you can easily work on it yourself. Of course, you're still going to get bad gas mileage and burn a lot of oil (unless you switch to premix). I love rotaries and the RX-8 is a really fun car to drive, but the gas mileage REALLY prevents it from being a daily driver for me.
I've owned a Corolla and Civic. My daily driver is a 2010 Civic coupe. I love the car for just total bullet proof reliability. I use Mobil One only and just regular maintenance. I drive this thing all over the country. I owned a Corolla wagon, 5 speed. The thing with the Corolla......nobody wants to steal them and they are cheaper on parts. They are just bullet proof cars and cheap and comfortable enough. I get the same issue....people ask what to get their kids or they need a car....I ALWAYS tell them "find a Corolla". They do not listen. I've been a mechanic all my life....I'm a professional restoration mechanic and work on some of the most sought after, rare and exotic cars you can imagine......pebble beach level stuff. Seriously....I can back up EVERYTHING this guy is telling you in this video!! I don't work as much on the modern stuff as he does but I know more than enough to know this guy is spot on. Listen to him!!!
Iâve been a Mechanic for 24 years. I agree with everything Car Wizard said. Toyota just makes better vehicles.. I still think he should have talked about the Land Cruiser.
Jason Johnson I have owned a five Toyotas and I have been amazing. I had a GMC truck in the headlights would randomly shut on and off at night. Terrifying vehicle
LCâs are great trucks but try finding a late model within the reach of ordinary people. The original FJâs in good running condition are selling for astronomical prices.
Charles Bronson How often did you change the Oil?
Nah Toyota still make shit cars! My current Toyota has been the least reliable car I have ever owned! Worse than my French cars I owned by a mile. Toyota had head go ( known issue with that motor) alternator ,egr valve, dpf ( unfortunately here in the uk you can't blank them) total cost more than the car only done 80k miles were as my old Citroen did 160k miles was scraped due to airbag fault never had much trouble with it.
Fixing the Toyota cost a ton everything is hard to get to needing to take subframe out to replace parts means labour cost is a fuckton
Got 330,000 on my 95 land cruiser. It still runs perfectly. Drive it almost every day. Only problem I've ever had with it is the alternator.
@Car Wizard - You know, in my mind, what makes you a real pro, is how easy you talk - no matter if it is a Corolla or a Deawoo - your experience comes over your lips as convincing, easy and cool... knowing you can fix one of these really tricky Ferraris of the 80s or wired Bentley... so cool! Greatest respect.
Some of us listen to you, Mr. Wizard. Bought a 2012 Toyota Corolla LE a few years ago. Now have 115K on it, and apart from a new alternator, nothing else has needed to be replaced.

It will be up for buy this, not that this afternoon.
Mazda 3 is a good reliable car
2007 Chevrolet HHR, I sold it back in January with 320,000 miles. New owner is approaching 340k miles currently.

Yep, you're right regarding a Toyota. I bought a 2005 Corolla CE in 2009 and it lasted me until 2021 and it had 230,000 miles on it. I never had major issues with it. I now have a 2009, my son's car, and it has 138,000 miles and is a sports Corolla and it is 2023 so I will be driving it for a long time.
in addition to addressing brand quality, I'd love to hear someone in the know talk about the process of buying a car... I'm very concerned about the trend in dealerships to get people signed up on a payment plans, and as a matter of fact I have to say that most of my experiences with buying cars, motorcycles, appliances, furniture or any other high ticket item have become unpleasant as soon as I or my wife states we are .on paying in cash. Salesmanship has definitely shifted from selling brands and their virtues to the predatory approach of enslaving buyers with perpetual debt to Big Bank

You hit the nail on the head. I drive a Toyota Tacoma and a Honda Accord. Best of both worlds
I want a Tacoma since childhood
I finally got a 2019 Toyota Corolla LE and I have to admit, as much as I love the car, one thing I canât stand is the damn CVT transmission!!!!!!! You literally canât feel anything with itâŠâŠ. Acceleration, deceleration, idleâŠ.. NOTHING!!!!!!! I can honestly say as much as I love the car, the CVT transmission SUCKS!!!!!!!
Has a long time Mazda tech when a customer comes in and asks me about RX8s I always tell them to make sure that they buy one with a sunroof. They ask "why is that" ? I tell them that when the motor inevitably loses compression the car will make a great planter box for their front yard.

My 2004 Toyota Matrix is still rolling. Got 329,000 miles.. And Its a Maine car.. Snow salt, cold.. Starts up all the time even at -20F weather...
Toyota, Subaru, and Honda are the most underrated car manufactures ever. Toyotas are mad reliable, Subarus are always a great choice for families, and i'm always impressed with the tech in Hondas and the fact that the Fit has more cargo capacity than a Ford Expedition is impressive.
Have a 2006 Mazda 3 S-Touring no issues so far bought it new back then.
Car Wizard, you've become my favorite car channel on CZcams quick
I have a 2011 is350 with toyota 3.5l engine.. no issues at all. Only now i have to do transmission fluid change. This is the 1st non perishable item that i have to replace... rock solid.
I am one that have taken that advice, getting a highlander to pull my waverunner, after hundreds of reviews and searching, it gets my vote. Your other recommend, the ford focus I have had since I bought it off the show room floor, it just passed108,000 miles other than the deplorable transmission that needs the clutch redone every 50k it's been perfect, haven't even had to replace the brakes yet. Oil changes regularly and it runs like a dream. The interior is spotless and looks brand new, they used some premium trims in the titanium.
Great video, and going forward, Toyota's, and Honda's are the only cars, trucks, and small SUV my family will own. Nothing we have owned have been as reliable, long lasting, fuel efficient, and tough as our Toyota's and Honda's over the years.
Commodorefan64 same here, my dad taught me well to not buy American cars. When we all come home itâs like a Honda car lot in the driveway lol

Some are listening! ;) Bought a 2005 Toyota RAV4 a few days before you aired your video about it!
The Car Wizard just bought a 2005 Toyota RAV4 for his daughter several months ago.
I have driven Toyotas for over 30 years and have had no major issues with any of them with routine maintenance. I am all set. Saved untold sums of money.
People just refuse to except that nobody can touch Toyota, in real life and on CZcams. You have all these mechanics who have been working on all these cars every day for decades telling you that Toyota is the best, and yet these keyboard warriors still think they know better
Yes I love they saying âJapanese junkâ while theyâre American car which is only 5 years old just blew the tranny, and my 15yr old Camry is running strong

@Lassi Kinnunen best car to take a nap in by far lol
Unfortunately, Toyotas also hold their value a little TOO well, meaning you will be paying a Kingâs ransom for the privilege of owning one.
Nittanyburg 20
If you live in areas where roads are salted Toyotaâs will rust bad. Lines subframe etc.
My 2004 Sentra has 222k (just bought it a few months ago but great so far), my 2008 Altima has 285k and I've had it for 10 years without a single issue, never garage kept, always driven hard and parked in the sun. Really, brakes, oil, fluids, that's pretty much it. Interior and exterior are mint, and no leaks. They are both the 6-speed manual..
Dang, I was hoping he would talk about the Mazda3. From what I hear from Scotty Kilmer, they're fine as long as you avoid the jatco automatic transmissions. Was hoping for a second opinion and deeper dive into the older mazda3s. You can get some that are more than 10 years old for sub $5000. I just want a beater car that I can practice my, basic, auto-maintenance skills on. Don't mind changing breaks and struts or replacing a pimped out "cold" air intake with a stock intake, but if I have to rebuid an engine or transmission, I'd be totally SOL.
I know that you know what you're talking about. I may just be unlucky. or stupid, as evidenced by the fact that I bought a 1984 Audi 5000 once. I loved the car, but it nearly bankrupted me. My Audi specialist mechanic told me that if you built one of those from retail parts, you would spend $1million dollars. I believe him.
Honda: I bought a used 1998 Honda Civic for my teenage daughter. It was very unreliable, constantly breaking down. Toyota: My son bought a Toyota Highlander and is constantly working on it. I have bought two cars, this century, that gave me absolutely no problems. A 2003 KIA Sorento EX, and a 2013 KIA Forte EX sedan. The only costs were/are maintenance. I couldn't be happier with KIA.
Scotty Kilmer approved!
its worth pointing out that even on the older subarus the headgasket issues are A) confined to the 2.5s (the 2.2 is probably the most reliable engine subaru ever made) and B) can be permanently fixed by swapping in a STI headgasket, which is MUCH stronger. the STI gaskets go right on and won't fail on an NA car unless you seriously botch the install.
Any of the turbo ej's have the multilayer head gaskets, so I could buy a forester or outback or something with the 255 motor and still not have any headgasket problems. Not so sure about the 2.4 but I assume it's the same.
So I bought a brand new 2008 Toyota Solara Convertible. Loved it UNTIL I was driving on a back road and I touched the brakes and they locked up. My anti-lock brakes locked up on dry pavement. I mentioned it to the dealer and their response was 'Don't worry about it'. Got rid of it as it was not safe. Will never buy a Toyota again. I drive Mercedes and I have zero problems.
I have a 2014 Toyotoa Camry 4 Cyl. Excellent Condition, under 80K miles. I am going to have the dealership change the transmission fluid and filter soon. Excllent car. Paid 9K cash. Used from a family member.
I would not recommend the Subaru Outback. They have oil consumption issues. My best friend has one (a 2013 or 14) and Subaru calls the oil consumption issue normal. Google it up. So he adds about 1 quart every few thousand miles. Subaru is NOT what they used to be folks. They've gone way downhill.
Yup, and the boxer engines add a lot of quirks when it comes to repairs. A lot of normally simple stuff is complicated by the layout of the boxer engine compared to just a regular inline 4. They have a slightly lower MPG in most cases too, and as a dependable cheap car I'd look somewhere else. My '04 Avensis diesel gets good MPG's, and is cheap and easy to fix. I'm no mechanic, I usually have to give up on car repairs and send it to a shop. But with that car, I've been able to replace the starter, the turbo, lower control arms and clean the EGR without any issues all by myself because most of the stuff is simple to get to.
Rubbish.
As a mechanic with 20 + yrs experience, I agree. I own 3 vehicles. 1. 89 LeSabre 3.8 v6 2. 98 Camry v6 3. 95 GMC suburban work truck. If I bought a new car it would be a Toyota.
I didnât even know about this advice from you, and I still got a Yota! My â12 Nissan Juke blew up on me recently (yay for electrical issues! but for real no one got hurt thankfully) and I wound up getting the chance to test drive a Yota, and that was it. I was stuck on getting a Yota, and now, I have my â17 Rollie đ
I like to add for those reading this comment - The 1995 Nissan Sentra was a very good vehicle
it was the last good engine that Nissan put out 1.8 liter up to the year 1999 . Taxi companies used them and it seemed they went for ever. Cast iron block and aluminum head, as long as you didn't over heat the engine they were pretty good .
my O7 Yaris has 243,000 miles. Did an alternator at 198,000 and muffler at 241,000.
Thatâs it...absolutely nothing else!
Burns 1/2 quart in 10,000 miles
Remarkable quality
An 08 Yaris was my first car. Bought it for $9k with 25k miles, put 30k miles on it and sold it 3 years later for 500 less than what I paid for it.
I still think the Yaris is one of the best little cars you can get.
I passed on my 2005 Scion XB to my kid who does not appreciate it. Other than some emissions sensor that has to be reset for inspections and a failed window motor the car had been bullet proof up to 145K when my wife ran over something on the highway at night that bounced across lanes of traffic and caused cosmetic damage. Get this., The body shop out insurer sent us to totalled the car. We bought it back I fiigured Id replace the rear axle with a junker if needed. We went to the tire shop, got an allignment and new tires and the problem was gone. The collision shop probably thought the car had little value and any repairs even cosmetics were too much. Just the same that manual transmission (same platform as the Yaris, made in Japan) works great. A solid little car that always got me where I was going. The XB still runs strong where the 2002 GMC Sierra's paint is peeling with rotten brake lines and other assortd problems rusts in the driveway. I will NEVER by another GMC vehicle. Toyota rocks.
This guy is gonna be my scotty kilmer replacement minus the yelling lol

Maximas used to be reliable. The 95-99 MĂĄxima were solid. I had one with over 230k miles and it still ran like new. I remember my friend just got a slightly used 2002 Lexus GS300 and we raced from 0-80mph... he couldnât pull away from my 96 230K mile MĂĄxima. He was so pissed off lol
larry Zeldin I had a 97 Maxima that was very reliable. It had 220,000 miles when I traded it in and it still ran great. I ended up getting rid of it because it was rusting to pieces. That seems to be the bane of every 4th gen Maximaâs existence. They rust out before they stop running. Iâve noticed that there arenât nearly as many 4th gen Maximas on the road today as there were a few years ago I suspect thatâs because the rear wheel wells and rocker panels on most of them have turned into Swiss cheese at this point.
