this is already better than giro's first 2 weeks lmao
the difference is made by the riders (team managers) attitude, I don't not why, but in the Giro they act like coward speculators. My country offers awesome paths and landscapes, the rest depend on the teams/riders.
@@mondociaociao it was simply due to the monster ITT on stage 20 that neutralized the aggressive racing...blame the route planner, not the riders.
@@DjelQc nahhh... tour de france a lot of times placed a beast tt (climb-tt) in the final stages (for example TdF 2020, stages 20, when pogi defeated Rogla) but in the all previous stages the riders battled... I don't understand why when they arrived to my Italy they act like zombies. I'm very sad.
Yeah it is. We had so many cool moments today. So many different dimensions to this stage. If it keeps up like this, we’ll have on of the best tours in a while.
I remember thinking the same thing with still 15 km to go
Absolute blast of a kick-off for the TdF. Excited to follow the LR coverage!
Dudes out here with the best cycling coverage and all the people missing the hype train choo choo.
Seriously tho, for me as an not so invested cycling fan your vids make me so exited to watch the races live! Keep up the good work
yates bros racing each other for the win is all time stuff
The brothers pulling for Pogs. Yates genius acquisition.
Slightly made a nonsense of the Yates co leader chat tho. Pog the leader, no two ways about it.
@@haroldbishop22 yes, UAE copy Jumbo strategy of co leaders. Beating them at their own game.
@@svtinker they will have to drop one late in the tour
Perhaps the most beautiful start to the Tour in its history.
Race with Pogi cannot be boring
Best highlights, best podcast, best watch party, humor, good looks, incredible analysis. LR has it all!!!
A nailed comment
That Yates guy and the other Yates guy worked really well together... almost looked like they were in sync and fully trusted each other... how?
I hope its sarcasm
@@lmao7439😂
Honestly the best cycling coverage anywhere. I love how this breaks down.
100% agree
Thanks for showing that picture of the 2 Yates embracing after crossing the line. A shame that they didnt show any brotherly interactions between the two after the line..
I thought this too.
Saw it on the French coverage. Was nice and touching
Who's ur favourite identical twins?
Thanks - really enjoyed that. Perfect length summary.
Great stage! Thanks for the highlights ❤
I really enjoyed todays stage. Wasn’t sure if I could recover that fast from watching nearly every giro stage 😂
What a first stage this was; the fans (although in some places they were severely restricting the width of the road which made it impossible to overtake on the climb in those areas), the terrain, the series of climbs and descents, winding through the small towns of this majestic part of Spain known as Euskadi (Basque Country), the weather, the views, the discipline and concentration in the peloton, the big teams, the individual brilliance of many riders, the road surface and absence of dangerous road furnuture (for the most part at least) - all made for an unbelievable start to the tour. Such a pity to lose Enric Mas and Richard Carapaz though, I hope they recover well.
Pogacar showing he's going to put the pressure on already, which was expected anyway. The icing on the cake was the brilliant final 5k pull away and finish by the Yates twins, Adam and Simon.
How can anyone not be a fan of the TdF for life after this mouth-watering opening stage?
There should have been police/stewards on the top of the cote de pike. The fans just tore down the fences and were all over the road. Unbelievable.
Yeah wtf right ?
I don't know what the fans were thinking either, if you want to see attacks then leave some space for it to happen.
Yeah zero space for any attacks. I was thinking that when I was watching live.
Thanks LR and Benji for the live watch along today - I'm visiting the US and can't get access to live racing so the watch along was like listening to the race on the radio 👍😁
5:37 that’s me on the right in the KAS cap and Ireland flag! crowd was unreal on Côte de Pike
Huge fan from denmark.. You are my absolute nr 1 CZcamsr...
Can you talk/tell more about the temperature doing every stage...
Anyway... Fantastic work...
Go Vindegaard🤞🏼🚴♂️
Adam being "co-captain" is just tactically for the media, as he said in interview after the stage win "its all in for pogi the next three weeks" Jonas should, as for now, keep an eye for pogi. If Adam is still in top three in week two he defo should keep an eye on him, but for now jumbo can sit in the shadow and wait for the best moment to attack the yellow. Going to be exciting to see what Skjelmose brings as well after Tour de Swiss, Tom pidcock as well in the mountains, the netflix series really brought that in so good. See you tomorrow
Love the content! Loved the watch along!!
Jumbo Visma could have closed the gap with the Yates brothers, but they chose not to, because they knew Pocagar would probably win the stage...
Yeah, Jonas isn't stupid. If he closed the gap, Pogacar would just sit on his wheel, attack and win the stage and likely win more time on him. Jonas seemed pretty satisfied after the stage. He definitely preferred Yates winning instead of Pogacar.
Still would have been a tough gap to fill. Its not as if the Yates brothers are some random no names lol.
@@username8644 No, but clearly Jonas remembers Dauphiné
Agree. It feels like they kept it at the perfect gap. Not too big but also not so small to allow pog to jump across
@@Soli11pogi and yates gonna gang bang Jonas. If he watch pogi yates gonna attack and take time so at some point he will have to chase and thats when tadej gonna attack. Tadej gonna make Yates do the dirty work.
Tour de France time is finally here ❤❤❤ Let’s gooooo
I live for your TdF videos!!! The best coverage out there!
That was such an enjoyable watch, will be tuning in for the rest of the tour and beyond for sure! Keen to give the podcast a go as well! 🇦🇺
Le Fey looking back after Pogi looks back as if Pogi isn’t looking back at him. Hilarious.
Vingegaard looking fantastic🎉
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Egoistic Pogi fans don't appreciate comments not about how great Pogi is. 👆😂
So stoked for your coverage this year.
Finallyyy, waited so longgg thank youuu
Excellent clips and commentary 👌🏽 as always 🎉
netflix already have enough stuff. what an amazing start. geting hyped
thank you. rly helpful for a newish fan who can't see these things during the race/official highlights
Thanks. Pogi certainly laying it down that he is going to take every second he can get, Good explanation of the gaps that kept on appearing as riders dropped the wheel of the rider in front of them when not only was the race string out due to sheer speed but also the spectators crowding the roads and making it impossible to go around a slower rider.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos bro. Learn sooo much from them. Keep posting!!
Great stage. Feels harsh to criticise Lafay but I'm really not sure why him and Skjelmose didn't go with Dos Yates on the descent. Doubt either incite a big reaction and I think both have a kick to win that stage. GC brain hit Skjelmose hard.
I have seen (not in this video in the live coverage) that they tried at least Lafay but pog or vingegaard didnt let them (it was just in the background for a few secounds)
@@philgaming3171 If that is true I take it back re: Lafay! Unreal performance so don't want to be critical of him.
i was going nuts when i saw adam, pogi, jonas and then fucking victor lafay
Great review and analysis as always. ❤
👥 Epic opening stage!
UEA team is very exciting to watch. Hope other gc contender are healthy till the rest of the stage.
Exciting coverage LR. Love it.
You do a great job of describing the situation. Thank you sir!
so hyped for the next 3 weeks. whoop whoop
So awful to prepare for the event for months or a year and to only crash out on stage one. Sport can be so cruel.
Lots of jousting on the stage. Riders checking each other out, it seems. Great effort by "Team Yates"! Ha ha😁😁
Thanks for your great coverage, mate. 👍
M 🦘🏏😎
I remember the Schleck brothers pulling up on Galibier on 2011's Tour.
Go, Team Yates!
@@jendralhxr Do "Team Yates" share secrets between other teams? Ha ha ha
Of course they don't. It was just superb to see TWIN Brothers making such a result.
Love your thumbnails❤❤
What a memorable finish congrats 👍
Awesome video!!! 👍😍
Greatest 1st stage ever !
What a great start! That was epic!
Casually calling out the yates bros giant domes 😂

Sick stage!
Dr LR just treated the sick stage
Yates boys done a deal I reckon. Nothing wrong with that.
I think adam was on the radio asking if he could work with Simon. But they're also brothers, and some things go without saying!
@@philipk4475 it always made sense for them to work together, put pressure on JV and other teams to pull pogacar back to them if they were to catch up.
@@mick727xd just now realized that Jonas Vingegaard and his team have the same initials... 😅
Not just brothers, TWINS! They know what each other is thinking.
@@busterthomas3563They looked identical to each other today racing side by side. Just different color clothing.
This year is going to be very interesting,Pog has a lot stronger team with him this year. So it will be interesting to see the tactics that both UAE and TJV employ.
But my money is on Pogacar this year.
My money is on Vingegaard. Mostly due to the lead up. Pogacar just recovered from injury and Vingegaard dominated the Dauphine.
Great summary!
Last week I wondered about the poetic justice that might occur if UAE put the pincher movement on Jumbo in a reversal of last year. And it has already happened ! It was not particularly impactful, but the longer Yates stays in GC contention, the more likely it is to happen again - and with much greater consequences. Jumbo not bringing Roglic might really cost them here.
Thanks brother and welcome to another Grand Tour summer.
The GCN highlights normally come out first, but it's genuinely not worth watching and waiting for LTR commentary. Totally putting them to shame! 👍
Perfect stage for Jumbo Visma. Now UAE has to work harder defending yellow.
Ive missed your content ✅️✅️
this is d best fights..cant wait for the mountain stages😁
Lanterne, I apologise for thinking you were wearing a tinfoil hat. Even though you were right about Jonas before tdf 2022 and about remco before Vuelta 2022. Probably would have been right about giro 2023 if TGH didn't crash. I have seen the error of my ways and am fully onboard the Adam Yates train 😂
Wonderful things happen in the basque region Spain.
Two GC riders out on the first day is a fat bummer
Yea, that sucked. But I hate when any rider crashes out..
Carapaz was not ready, EF doesn't have the right "gear".
Unfortunately it seems to happen quite often.
Yeah even though neither of them were in any form to go high places.
This does make the fight for 3rd place less interesting.
Great team tactics by UAE. Yates attacks, Jonas can not follow because he has always pogi on his wheel. So Pogi and Jonas neutralize each other a bit. And so Yates can probably attack several times during this TDF and gain time. And if there is no attack, Pogi can always win bonus seconds.. so Jonas will have to crush Pogi on a difficult stage to win the tour ( like he did last year )
That stage TJV destroyed Pogacar by attacking him on the flats. Looking good for UAE with Yates and no Roglic.
No roglic in tour the France no win for Jumbo visma in the tour
@@Calabria23 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's basically the reverse of what happened last year with TJV and Roglic. It's going to be a very interesting tour.
@@martinhudobivnik5895 that stage was mostly done by rogla not the visma jumbo team.
Get your facts straight !
And pogi will win, because rogla is not here!
Kuss is not enough for Jonas.
Great summary.
So much easier to listen to your overview than oh-so many others.
That's nothing against the many others, rather compliments to you.
Enjoy the race mate. Thanks for your efforts in making racing fun, interesting... and enjoyable to consider in context.
- Rob
Thank you👍
Are you consulting for any team this year?
Yes, still for Jumbo Visma
Great stage 1! I think the Pog of last year would have gone for the stage win.
LR for the win in TDF coverage!
Pogi needs to save energy for the big mountains he just wasting with these attacks, watch vingeggard just following him he's smart Pogi needs to focus on the 3 weeks
He saved energy when he had Jumbo working for him chasing down the yates brothers.
Good strategy.
Also Pogacar needs to make an gap. Vingegaard is the best climber specialist in the peloton.
@@1barnet1 still not as good as Pogi. Pogi will beat the hell out of Jonas in the Alps.
The Schleck bros. didn’t go 1-2 at the tour?
Would love to see the Paret-Peintre brothers do something like this at some point!
One minute I was watching some streamers launching fireworks, next thing I know it’s 4am and I’ve been invested in this world of racing and the complexities behind it the last hour or so. I don’t know half of what’s happening strategy wise even with the commentary. But I’ll continue to nod and agree into more of it.
What a great day for Netflix
I love the le tour ❤
Just a hint, the Yates brothers were not the firsts not even the seconds to be 1st and 2nd in a tour de france race... The last ones were the Schelck brothers! Peace and i love your content
Choo Choo! TDF off to a fantastic start!
Beautiful final
I think that UAE sent a message today, they are the strongest team and Pog is the strongest rider. I can see Pog using his team in the big stages to punish his opponents.
Agree!
That's very premature.
They had 2 riders at the end Jumbo had 4.
They just played their cards really well in the final. Leaving only loss options on the table for Jumbo.
That said i am absolutely loving this.
Because it seems UAE's strategy is trying to scrap every second they can keeping the pressure on constantly doing short jabs for 3 weeks.
While Jumbo is probably looking for another knockout punch in the mountains like last year.
This will be proper entertainment for the fans.
Anyone know why Brandon Mcnulty isn’t riding with UAE? He was putting in some big training before the tour.
That Jumbo-Visma helmet is beautiful
Yates killing it
amazing stage
The real winner here for stage 1 is the parents of the twins
Omg...BILBAO!! The Beauty of the Basque Land.
Expect the unexpectable in TdF .
I love the narrator...mega jargon that no one understands but him
I went on a 36 mile group ride this morning and thought about the Tour de France riders the whole time! 🚴
I went on a 3.6 and thought about u just now after that comment
The tour is back!
Getting onboard 👍🏻
Very classy 💎💎💎
This year First will even be more exiting
Yes!
Amazing.
Good to see UCI remove the pressure to sauce up by making stage 1 so short and easy…
Yates looks strong for all the way too!
As stated b f, pogacar slightly slower than vingegaard on hc climbs, esp w heat. Stage 17 p loses approx 35 secs to v.
P needs time, where? Time bonuses. P can routinely beat v in last 300 m of a climb, more explosive, and routinely in sprints. P goes for every sprint bonus sec he can ( breakaway doesn’t take all the secs) and all finish line bonus secs, every time, b c every time here he can beat v.
He’s got 4 secs. Good haul today. He needs about 40 secs bonus to win tour 23
B c They’re roughly equal in tt
Bilbao looks soo beatiful and modern.
Bruh 2 GC guys gone ! Richard knew he couldn’t hang but wanted the bag 💼
That is amazing
