Like 2 Classics the first 2 stages. Beats a 12k prologue anyday.
Agreed! Now, this is racing! Are you listening, Giró d’Italia with three TTs?
I dunno man both the TT and the prologue where fun to watch last year. That being said the racing has been excellent! I'd argue not having a week of flat sprint stages is the real game changer!
Prologues can’t be 12k. They are 8km max
@@scpython1 Jumbo want WVA to win a couple stages but it's not a priority
Everything is on Jonas winning the gc
@@Henry-gv8gj If Wout is not happy Jonas aint winning anything. WvA is the main man in this team not Vingegaard.
What an absolute dream for the TDF sponsors. Netflix show brings in a bunch of new eyes and then the first 2 stages are first class. Can't wait for the rest of the race!
That was a closing kilometer for the ages by Lafay. Perfectly patient, then a perfectly timed move. It could have gone either way up to the very last moment. This year's race is shaping up nicely so far.
Except Carapaz and Mas are already out due to an accident.
Love the classic 1KTG flyer!
Good timing but also insanely strong attack from him, doubt many other riders in the group had the legs for an attack that juicy at the end of this hard stage. Really cool to see Lafay win ,and well deserved.
He looked like he was shot out of a cannon. It was so unexpected, by me anyway. Awesome Tour so far.
@@doublejazz Indeed. The first punch was brilliant in every aspect. Positioning, timing, reading the situation (the hesitation of the riders at the front was critical to drastically improve Lafay's odds), speed. Then being a Cofidis rider and an underdog I was rooting hard for him to finish it off. Such an entertaining finish and that's 90% because of Lafay
Pogacar is a mega chad. Never looks unhappy on the bike, even when he lost last year.
Will get them next time
How could you if you raced like him lol
Agreed, I think he just loves racing his bike. The only time I’ve ever seen him really get upset was Flanders last year
At the end of the last 2 stages of last year's TdF, when Tadej could still hope to beat Vingo but failed to make the situation worse, if you remember correctly the smile had completely left Tadej's face. No more laughter. However in Paris he made an effort to appear serene, also because the public adores him, he loves his bluster as well as his spectacular feats.
"Never looks unhappy on the bike", oh really? youtube Flandres sprint 2022.
🧨These two opening stages have been BANGERZ.
Really happy for Lafay!
Not only Bangerz, but relatively safe for the peloton - with no big pile ups. (apologies to Mas & Carapaz)
Maybe a couple of hard stages to start Grand Tours is the best way to go - Let everybody take the edge off a bit before we line up a sprint stage.
Lafay was the one who actually deserved the win the most. He was the best the first stage after Pogacar and Vingegaard. They both gonna get way more opportunities for a win.
Really happy for lafay he really deserved this
Props to Lafay !! That was an absolute robbery. Would love to see the netflix cameras on the Jumbo team bus after that.
I would pay extra to see that lmao
wait for it.
sucking the wheel all day and than catching a lucky timing 1k to go... what an achievement hahaha classic french move!
@@methilda2927 That's call racing without the help of a team and with your own capacities, but raging haters will hate anyways.
They won't show it. Netflix prefers fake drama over real drama.
the thing i liked the most about his win is that Lafay NEVER looked back. Pure commitment, and just checking for the gap could have costed him the win.
when he launched that attack, it thought, "that's too early", but then TJV not reacting to Lafay's attack, a mistake on their part
It's head-shaking! The guy just flat-out ATTACKED. I keep watching the replay of it. Total commitment. In a situation like that, if you're going to go, you have to go. Period.
@@dashi6032 brilliant launch from the back. he built up so much speed by the time he passed the dudes in front they would've had to cook themselves just to catch his wheel and that would've ended any chance they had of a win, so mobody chased hoping somebody else would.
So…yesterday we had the first sibling 1-2 since Andy and Fränk Schleck, and today we’ve had the first Cofidis stage victory since Sylvain Chavanel in 2008? My childhood is returning…my time machine works!!! 😂
lol hands down the best comment so far
Really cool comment. Maybe today we'll see a victory from Cavendish or Sagan?!?
Really impressive storytelling (as always). I love how you edited in the footage of the medical car blocking the Jumbo car.
I liked the “just chillin” water bottle guy.
@@pssitaMikel Landa deserves more respect than being called the water guy.

-Inglourios Basterds. Probably.
The flat from Jonas and some others were created by someone that threw pushpins on the road. Approximately 40 riders had a flat after this passage 40 km from the finish
I'd never seen that many flats in such a short amount of time, I was wondering what was going on.
Geez...makes sense there was all of a sudden a huge scramble for wheels
2011 some idiot did it..Cadel Evans and a few others got flats. But not 40!!!
If that's true that's SO F*CKED
I hope they can find the absolute moron who did that. Disgusting
Love your insightful recaps, I learn a lot that i didnt even realize during the livestream, thanks
Lafay's move was perfect. He waited for the occasion, observed for a second, then went for it. No hesitation. Pure masteclass
He bet big against the house and WON 💰 it’s so rare when the house loses you have to tip your hat to Lafay 🧢 🙇♂️ perfect move full commitment to the line. Thrilling start to this Tour between him today and Yates squared yesterday!
@@brianmessemer2973 I completely agree. Lafay's timing was perfect yesterday, just as the Yates twins' was Saturday. Two stages that ended up like spring classics. I look forward to today's stage, even though we might get a more "conventional" scenario
These recaps are simply the best. Love watching them even after seeing the coverage. Thanks!
i really look forward to your videos like this, so well done, thanks
1 option for JV would have been like sprint teams often do: let Bilbao in the wind an give him +-15s and close the gap on the lets say last 2km. Because then no other guy would attack with 1 guy still 15-20s ahead. and second they could have saved the legs for a better lead out.
I agree.. would have been better that way.. allso removing the pressure from Jonas, so he does not have to answer stupid questions bout why he wasnt riding leadout for Van Aert (as defending champion of the tdf!!).. they should have played it cool like you said 👍
Indeed. Didnt understand Bennoots all out pull to reel him back with 5k to go. Only means the next one will attack
@@gerardvermaat6944 Agree, they should get a decent guy to help them with race strategies
Amazing video , great break down , thank you , your videos always make my day , thanks very much ❤ 🚲
Wow, what a recap! You pick up on so much that goes unnoticed at first and really pulled us into that one
Props to Tadej. At 5:19 when he flicked Jonas, but Jonas didn't bite... Tadej didn't make a big deal of it, like be upset and stuff. Pro move.
when has Tadej ever been upset
Imagine Remco in this situation! 😂
Remco would be total opposite
@@tjtennisicmroll2k flanders 2022
@@miocasano1005 Lol the fact that we can only name one moment when Tadej was upset is in itself a statement to how positive he is all the time. I know when I was 24 there was way more than one time when I would have been emotional and given the FU to a guy that cut me off.
Thanks! I needed this.
very insightful. thank-you.
This is what the JV teamleader had to say about the final km to Dutch media:
"If anyone made a mistake with us today, please attribute it to me. The moment Lafay pulled away, I made the call that Jonas shouldn't pull. And that his focus should be to get into the wheel of Pogacar. In retrospect you might say Jonas could have done some work, but I was convinced that Wilco and Tiesj could close the gap with Lafay. Unfortunately, that didn't work out."
Unlucky
Bad judgement call in the heat of battle
Tomorrow is another race day
Who said that? The race director or road captain? Either, classy words to take the heat off Vingegaard.
@@AlexRochettegood thinking for keeping the mentality of the riders in good shape
@@AlexRochette Agree 100%. Absolutely no way he was on the radio saying that in such reaction time -- he couldn't see it the way the guys on the road, especially Jonas, could see it in time. Not buying it. Totally on Jonas. Bad judgment, but hardly a capital offense. Wout can be a little moody, though. Jonas is going to ask him to do a pile of work in this Tour. If he's smart, he will apologize, instead of laying off on his Director.
@@finiteautomata3888 That is a completely lame b.s. excuse. If Jonas actually said that, I'm embarrassed for him. I can't think of a single truly great Tour winner who didn't ride for others on their teams to help them. Obviously you wouldn't want Jonas burning enough matches to seriously impact him or seriously sacrificing. But this would have required next to nothing from him.
Chapeau to Lafay and to Cofidis for breaking their drought.
The first two stages of the Tour have been more exciting than the entire Giro. That is largely due to the fact that Pog and Jonas are so evenly matched. If one or the other was not there or in top form, it probably would have been pretty much boring.
A memorable stage for what did happen and maybe more so for what did not. Thanks for the good recap as well.
Furious Wout is good for TDF. He is gonna go thermonuclear very soon. He might end up destroying Jonas as well in the process 😂

I was there on the final corner in san seb, lafay went around so quickly that the camera blurred out us in the crowd behind him on the corner lol. Awesome being there for an amazing finish. Great experience, especially for my first TDF stage in person.
Rafał Majka was in absolute beast mode for me :D
Loving the coverage this year! ❤

I now remembered Pogacar sarcastically thanking Wout during cooldown for dropping Jonas after S4 last year. Now this. Really dig this developing subplot beyond the Jonas/Pogacar rivalry.
Reality TV antics are so cringe, u less maybe for americans who are addicted to that trashy stuff

LOL @ the nature break footage! :> great job LR!
I saw this finish yesterday, but was unaware of all the activity that took place before. I had a feeling the winning attack was golden at the time I saw it made. It was perfectly executed and the dude obviously has a great motor. Viva!
Landa, just chilling!!!
Adam rode into the last climb, because Pogo and him wanted to give Simon Yates the bonus seconds. When Pogo noticed, that Simon didn't have the punch for it and Vingegaard would claim the 8 secs, he went for it.
Landa most hydrated rider in the peloton
Such a great channel
Lafay attacked like a lighting! Wow 😮
Pogacar is the funniest cyclist i ever seen.
I love to see him all the time,no matter he wins or loss.!

van Aert did a lot of work in the final kms though.
Nonetheless finished first of the pack

@@outnordic793If you see that the group literally finished 2 bike lenghts behind Lafay, just a 100 m pull from Vingegaard would have won WVA the stage and would not affect Vingegaard's time losses due to bonus seconds on this stage or wasted energy.

Absolute textbook attack by Lafay. Flawless.
Perfectly timed attack from Lafay, what a move! Those rarely work at the flamme rouge, especially in the TdF. Awesome!
Now Team Cofidis needs to get the lad to the mobile Alpecin barber caravan...
Majka in the poolside shades with the gradient tint. Nice style!

Extremely well done Lafay, congrats:)
Jonas refusing to break with Pog in both stages so far, just wants to stay on the wheel.
Yup, no need to fix something that aint broken (his tactics) 👌

In short, pussy tactics ...
@@outnordic793 True but this year he wont have Roglic attacking Pogacar and WVA isnt in the same form as last year will be an interesting tour
@@bluedevil7250 true - we are in for a treat i hope 😎 May the best man win!
Imagine thinking it would be a good idea for Jonas to pull with Pog to the finish line (where the better sprinter will win and get most bonus seconds aka Pog) instead of holding back for the group with WVA who can actually beat Pog in a sprint.
You guys are so dumb that i wonder if you stop thinking on purpose.
I didn't know Cofidis was still around. Last time i heard of them was in the 90s.
The invisible bidon! 😂😂
What's blurred at 1:12? Lol
Great finish. Im glad someone beat jumbo, they were so many of them and none were willing to race. I like their team, I was rooting for them last year, but man they really aren't racing so far.
Edit: also what's up with all the flats. I've never seen that many riders get flats in such a short amount of time. Aren't they also riding much wider tires, doesn't make sense.
Cycling News have some articles up saying there were tacks thrown on the road.
Tracks thrown on the road accounted for some of the flats
Thanks for the replies, that makes sense. I'm surprised that nobody mentioned it during the tour (I watched on French TV).
I think they are letting UAE blow themselves up. If anything UAE needs to be controlling as they have yellow and both stages had Poggie's name written all over them. Unless they are on crazy form, no way UAE can keep up this amount of work for the whole tour.
We'll see some more interesting racing from jumbo in the mountains.
Also, I see a lot of people going after Jonas for just sucking Pog's back wheel but it's exactly what he needs to be doing imho. No point in attacking him on these classic style stages.
Let the tour play out before jumping to conclusions after 2 days
@@waitbalthy6342 I agree with your take on Jonas. But the other riders for Jumbo could have ridden more aggressively for the stage win today. I was glad their mistake cost them.
Edit: it was clear they wanted the win because Wout was visably very frustrated and there were multiple team mates riding for him at the end.
I didnt catch the Pogacar laughing at Wout but that was hilarious how he was talking to Adam and showing how he displayed his anger lmao 🤣🤣 Pogacar taking the piss at Jumbo Visma.
Wont help him when vingegaard thrashes him again this year😂
@@kgarg92 no way. Pogacar will eat and spitt Jonas in the Alps.
@@dejandoles2683 People said the same thing last year and there it looked like he bit of more than he can chew.
@@N2theLAS Thats because Jonas had more help from his team than Pogacar did. Pogacar was basically alone vs Jonas, Wout, Roglic taking turns attacking and tiring Pogacar out before they could reach the top in the Alp stages. This year I feel UAE has more supporting cast compared to last year but we shall see how it turns out.
@@SONA7DOIt’s a team sport. Pogi trying to disrupt JV team. That’s his only chance. Jonas should have laughed at Pogi when he slid and fell last year. Because according to Pogi fanboys, it’s just having fun and being happy.

The first 2 stage winners of this tour couldn’t be more wholesome.
Is Bilbao a better descender than piddock?
Tour is on fire an im glad to see uae dominating. After last tdf where jumbo killed everything, this year it seems to not be the case
really killed it with the video title haha
What was blurred out around 1:10?
I think that Jonas (and Jumbo Visma's racing director, it's fair to underline) didn't pull for Wout not really to save energy (200m aren't too much of an effort if you think about it), but because doing the lead out in front of a sprint exposes you to the risk of some crashes, and it will definitely tear in pieces months and months of preparation.
Pissing off some of more important teammates is plain stupid too. Jonas show last year he couldn't have won without WVA, do you think he can this year?
Can anyone fill in on what was going on in UAE today? Berg was seriously pissed at one point, and it seems there was some discord in the team about something.
Brilliant stage! Can’t believe that French kid just unloading like that 1000 meters from the line and holding off the best riders in the world. This guy has seemingly come out of nowhere. Can he podium? Prolly not but who knows?
he won a Giro Stage back in 2022. Is this nowhere?
He mostly just held off Kelderman, who'd already been pulling the group for several km.
It’s a race, aside from tt and stage 17, for bonus secs
Where are bonus lines stage 3 and 4?
Beautiful vintage Thomas voeckler style attack
that 1k send was glorious
Nothing better than LR no context Landa content 😂
I think that UAE was trying to put Simon into the yelpow jersey. They wouldn't have to work and the brother of Adam would have got the jersey. Pog only sprinted when Jonas tried to get get the seconds...
Pout van Aert - that was supposed to be MY stage.
Pogacar reenacting Wout's tantrum to A. Yates and the laughing and shaking heads is hysterical!!!!!!
Kinda bad form IMO.
it was hilarious!!! lol
The stage thankfully had too many action packed moments for LR to dwell on the amazing video and background sound effects track we had of cows grazing during one of the quieter periods of the stage coverage!

@@lambertlambert7076 Je peux l'imaginer. Et j'imagine qu'il sera utilisé à chaque fois qu'il gagne.
@@scpython1 I think Jumbo-Visma were simply put under pressure by Bilbao on the descent, they had to work pretty hard to catch him, and then they had to shut down the brief attacks from Buchmann, Pidcock and Skjelmose. No one was going to help them chase as it would benefit van Aert more than themselves. Kelderman looked like he was pretty much in the red when Lafay attacked. I also have a feeling that van Aert might've expected Vingegaard to help lead him out.
Does anyone know the speed LaFay was going when he pulled that final attack/win?
Wondering that too.

@@LanterneRougeCyclinggood review&breakdown, very knowledgeable and well done 👌
Should Jonas have pulled with Pogi? Maybe (Michael Rasmussen seems to think so when reading his column in Ekstra Bladet). While Pogi beats Jonas in a sprint like that 99 times out of 100, he'd only lose four seconds - which he did anyway - and maybe push Pogi into yellow, meaning daily doping tests and press talks, while Jonas can spend a little more time recovering.
Should Jonas have pulled for Wout? Nope. Yellow > stages and/or green. If Jumbo wants Jonas to work for Wout, enter Jonas into races where Wout is the natural choice for captain. I'm sure Jonas would happily work for Wout under those circumstances.
Have no clue why they bought WA in the first place, is clear that he always put himself, before the team and his leader, if he dont get a victory, he won't work 100 % for Jonas.
Completely agree with the first part, but are you saying that one or two small pulls for van Aert would cost Jonas the tour? You don’t feel any of that in the following days, especially with an “easy” stage the following day and it might just be the difference between a stage win and second place. I completely get the decision they made in the moment, but I now feel that he should have helped a bit
@@kadafi1987 Wtf he puts himself before the team? he literally let laporte win a fucking classic, saved the tour for vingegaard last year in the cobble stage and dropped pogi on a climb last year as domestique for vingegaard, you clearly have no clue about van aert
@@kadafi1987 Because Wout Van Aert is the cyclist you want to bring to the tour. Did you even watch last tour? He is a versatile superstar not dirty of domestic work. That doesn't mean he should be a domestic every time, if they race a bit for him and he gets a few wins he gives his 110% for the team in the other stages what last year lead to the tour victory. He already sacrifices a lot of winning chances in the tour for Jumbo visma, this is a guy who can win 10 stages in a tour if he has a team riding for him alone.

Insane pull from Lafay in the final. Tbh we all know on a flat finish, Pogi would win over Jonas 9/10 times. Big probs to Powless, Boasson Hagen and the frenchman? (ive completely forgottenhis name sorry) as well, did actually really good in the breakaway. Quite a shame the first breakaway attempt didnt go through, that could have been rough for the peloton but oh well.
