Best start to a tour that I can remember. My jaw was on the floor when pog made his move. Love it!
And i bloody missed the last 10kms 😢
Pogo's attack was.........thermonuclear!!!
He kept looking back to make sure he had a clear path of attack. You could tell it was coming.
Nice attack but Vingo was caught napping TBH, should have been more careful. It's the first time Pogi drops him since the 2021 Alp stages after all. Oh well, live and learn !
@@PeakabikeHave you seen Paris-Nice ?
Got to say. Your highlight videos are so much superior to the ones from the large networks. The story of the days riding, the small details, brilliant work 👍
The belgian networks are pretty decent too
%100
They’re very good but credit to the offical TDF highlights which have upped their game this year.
czcams.com/video/pGIMtWNv9H8/video.html this one isnt bad either
taking into accout the JV bias, yet
stage 5 and 6 are going into history books...what a show
When Poga atacked i JUST...what the fuck Is happening? Crazy.
We are so loucky to witness Tadej and Jonas greatness
Tadej is great, Jonas is very good...with Van Aert in his team, Pogi would probably won 12 stages at every tour...
@@ks-li4icfacts
@@ks-li4ic tbf this is what cycling is about. Nobody can win a TDF based on one good driver just as nobody can win a TDF based on one good team. It has to be the combination of both. Pogi may be the better driver (i agree) both Jonas has the better team, which makes them equal in many aspects. It's lucky for us though - we can sit back and watch a great rivalry and an entertaining TDF23
Like Messi vs Ronaldo in their prime, lets cherish these beautiful moments.
@@ks-li4icnah, brother. Jonas is great.
Vingegaard and Pogacar feels like Federer and Nadal when their rivalry was beginning. Great couple of stages in the Pyrenees, can't remember a first week of the Tour this good before
To many more years!
The weird thing is that Pogi is two years younger but also emerged earlier. So he's the first great one to emerge (Federer) but also the younger one (Nadal). Just goes to show how insane a prodigy he was, the youngest tour winner in over a century and the youngest stage winner in the last 30 years.
Djokovic❤
@@richardhall4830 There is no Djokovic, yet. Perhaps one could emerge out of the next generation. Remco might be the best bet so far.
@@ColinGLoganRemco is a good bet
As someone who is new to TDF/cycling after watching the Netflix doc, I just want to say a huge thank you! Your videos are incredibly helpful for learning about the race dynamics in real time and I look forward to viewing them after each stage. Keep at it!
Great that the docu catched you and you are still there to watch the tour!
Did you learn about the most prestigious prize?…
The Lanterne Rouge.
he also have a podcast!
When the TDF steals your childhood: Pogacar and Vingegaard are ONLY JUST starting to push mustaches😂🤣!
Last tour was amazing, this looks to be Epic, and we're still in Week 1. Hats off to The Pog and Vin. Hope Hindley rallies and we have a 3 way shootout. Strap in guys.
Hindley cant match these guys
@@andreadg5429Hindley, Yates, Gaudu and Rodriguez podium battle should be good
@@andreadg5429Not yet still I saw his pink jersey and it was like a child would wear. Then the guy from Bora said it was a size bigger than he was wearing. Then I was like f*ck. HIndley maybe not contender this year. But next year I hope he will.
Lol. It’s a two man contest. Hindley isn’t close.
@@cincydooley We all know that... Still don't disrespect Hindley you don't know how much he does. I do because his kine lives like 1,5km from me. And it's insane with how skinny he is. He's a true climber and I hope he improves next years. (Also I asked a pink jersey and the guy arranged a bora jersey (not a pink one) but still a Bora jersey with Jay's signature on it (and in MY size) so I found it great.
Wish you would have highlighted WVA’s pull a bit more. Besides Pogacar’s attack, that was the most impressive feat of the day. He absolutely emptied the tank for Jonas.
i wish the same, but he is on a timelimit of footage he can use so i understand why he didnt go into detail
you mean for Pogacar
You got to love pog. He is ALWAYS balls to the wall 💪
❤Pogi🇸🇮
I don't love him.... I ADORE HIM
Like Contador; win or lose he make s the race fun to watch.
When Pog looked back to see if there was anyone behind before launching a ferocious attack like a tiger, it gave me chills!! What a killer move.
I didn’t think it was that shocking to the observant viewer. Tadej was in energy management mode drafting on Jonas the whole stage, resisting the temptation to stand off the saddle and pedal many times when Jonas did. Did a good job letting Jumbo’s best burn themselves out leading up front while he stayed aero. Leading the breakaway is a huge disadvantage if you can stay on their wheel. More than that though Tadej just had this look in his eye the whole back half of the stage like he was waiting for favorable conditions to strike. If wout van aert hadn’t carried so hard i think Tadej might have launched earlier
5:40
@mtbdawg4987 I agree, but you gotta admit the timing and execution were perfectly done. Tadej made it look as easy as walking in the park and people often undervalue the decision making part of the sports but to me, that's everything about the sports. Tadej knows his limits but also understands what he is capable of. If Tadej wins this year's TDF(that's a big IF), this is the kind of moment that would make him win.
@@mtbdawg4987yup jonas tried the whole day to drop him and ko tadej also with the whole team but just he couldn't tadej said that he asked to launch before at 4km before the end but they told him to wait, I'm pretty sure if the climb was 1.5 or 2 km longer he was gaining way more
first time I've seen Tadej rides without glasses. Impressive the way he staring the head of JOnas, pure killer instinct! 😯 No more the kid with the easy and sweet smile.
I'm from Denmark where it is mandatory to support Vingegaard. But I'm so happy for this rivalry. Pogi is such a great, amazing and inspiring sportsman and Jonas is possible the most humble and down to earth person ever. They are both great guys appreciating each others talents. They both deserve to win. They are both great giants.
100% I agree. I mean, just look at Jonas last year In the TDF. Pogacar inspires ppl with his attitude, you just want the guy to do something amazing!!! And he usually does!
from sLOVEnia over here, I feel the same, what a respected battle, fair fight till the end, let the best one win
@@bens.6458 It's impossible to hate Pogacar. He seems like a guy I would befriend immediately. So generous, so focused, and his focus on the beauty of the sport. He's a romantic and he deserves every bit of his success.
Yes. Big Pogacar fan but without Jonas and the super-strong team behind him, I think Pogacar would dominate everyone, with possibly Roglic or Hindley being the closest but not actually having a chance to win. Vingegaard and Wout van Aert are riders that are so humble, talented and respectful that I can be genuinely happy for them if they beat Tadej. Same goes for Roglic. Shoutout to Kuss as well. This is just beautiful stuff
I agress as a Slovenian, excellent rivalry. But here because Pogi beat Roglic in 2020, their are a lof of haters of Pogacar.
This tour might beat 2022 in action - Damn!
What a tour man. Its only been 6 stages but it feels like the third week already. Thank you Jonas and Tadej for being so aggressive.
The look on Pog's face when he attacked! He looked like a pitbull!
What a work from WVA!
The photo inserts are really good!
The Vingegaard/Pogacar rivalry is one of the best and most wholesome rivalries in all sports. Can't wait to see how the upcoming mountain stages play out.
Today's stage was deffo one of the best stages I have watched on Tdf ever. And i'm so glad Pog made a comeback today because this means that the rest of the tour will stay intresting. I feel like Jumbo's tatctics were pretty good since they thought they had Pog on his knees yesterday and they just wanted to give him the final blow but they might've underestimated him a little when they attacked with more than 50k to go. Pog might've just had a bad day yesterday and I really hope he just increases his form throughout the tour and I hope his injury won't cause him any problems because this looks like its gonna be a hell of a tour.
On the other hand, if Vingegaard could drop pog and then decent with wva, they would have those 50k to put a greater dent into the GC. Capitalizing on Pog maybe having some form issue here at the start of the race. He usually gets stronger, so would have been good for JV to get a more time on him. Sorta backfired, but i can see why they did it. In any case the rest of the GC got distanced further, so swings and roudabouts.
last two stages have been incredible. I was cheering Jonas on yesterday and I was cheering Pog on today. UAE was riding a little cocky yesterday and it came back on them, and the same for JV today. It's easy to like both of these brilliant riders, and this is shaping up to be an epic battle to the end.
I wouldn't be so sure about that now. JV now has to carry the burden of the yellow jersey and the real tests in the mountains are yet to come. For Pogacar and UAE, this is definitely the better starting position right now. In addition, it must be said that Pogacar has also shown these attacks in 2022, yes he is more explosive than Vingegaard but he was able to close over and over again almost effortlessly. This stage might have shown rather weakening legs of Vingegaard, which I hope not.
I really thought it might've been over for Pog. Instead he came back swinging. This is even more exciting than last year!! I hope it stays this neck and neck till the end
Really? You thought it was over for the 24 years old best cyclist in the world after only one bad day? You need to hear Roglic’s opinion on that 😂
It was over, but he did a Landis. He popped a blood bag.
Stage 6 and Pogacar's acceleration was one of the best attacks seen in Tour history!
Vinga's failure to respond to Pog's attack was kind of a shock.
@@John-op5vi he knew he was already in yellow, so no need to have any extra effort and waste energy
@@ofeykalakar1 If he could respond he absolutely would have. The tactic today was to kill pog, not get yellow from hindley.
Gotcha.. that's the goal..the podium..top step in Paris. Thanks for the reply.
You have to watch Niza-Paris (2023), stage 20 of TdF 2020 (AWESOME!), Vuelta de Andalucia, Tirreno-Adriatico and so long. Pogacar is Phenomenal! don't care if he loss or win, he is always the main reason to see a race.
its getting better and better
What a treat to watch these two battling!
Best stage to watch so far! What a work from van Aert as well, underrated!
Wout is underrated? Okay fine.
underrated xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
dumbass he single handedly rode this stage to what it was bro, he is a literal god
@@WeallAreAdults ...what do you think underrated means?
he is definitly not underrated, at least in france, the commentators spent most the race praising him and his performance, last year too they were always praising him as an absurdly great rider
@@WeallAreAdults I don't know why you react like a child while i'm litterally saying the same you are by saying that his work today hasn't been appreciated as it should be!
Literally got chills watching that attack by Pogacar. What an epic stage. I feel like we’re watching history in the making.
Love when my favorites are 1 and 2 in the stage. So happy for Pogi and happy for Jonas for getting the yellow jersey back! He better give Wout some love for setting him up like he did. What a great team.
What's awesome in this Tour is that a lot of people are on some nice gaps and could be attacking early or even going in the break. It's really awesome that we get such a hard start this year.. And the agressive racing shouldnt relent as people have gaps to close and time to make. Going to be a cracker till the end!
Tadej hasn't been racing he's going to get stronger & stronger. Gonna be an incredible Tour! 👍🏻🚴
he attacked at the summit after riding freewheel with the champion...not convincing
@@user-so3zx9pg7nthere's close to zero draft on 10% gradients like they were climbing. Pogi was just stronger as he gains more fitness
😂 He's been off for 2.5 months! He's going to get stronger and stronger. Jonas has a full team working for him Tadej doesn't.. They're both incredible cyclists let's see how it plays out. 👍🏻🚴
@@user-so3zx9pg7n Lmao 😂 you're just hatin' bro, even Jonas on this stage relied heavily on Wout's pull till the last climb. TBH if Jonas doesn't have a super team behind him it'll be impossible for him to beat Tadej. Imagine if Roglic isn't around last year, surely, It'll be Tadej's 3rd TDF championship.
@@ranzteeezy9716 TDF is a team effort that's why your boy did not succeeded...remember that. Lets meet again here after the TDF ha ha ha
My guess: That solo pull to the finish line from Vingegaard on stage 5 would have tired him out a little for the next day. Pogacar’s ride in was just a little easier. So when we hit the Alps, Vingegaard will have the edge again.
Before I stumbled on your channel I was watching TdF mainly for the views and I didn't fully grasp how much tactics goes into those stages so I very much appreciate your accessible explanations.
Bravo Tadej and best of luck 💚! Greetings from a Croatian. 💚
wout van aert was so impressive this round
Things just got very interesting. And wow what an effort by van Aert. Chapeau!!
Great tactics by JV and Pog is just an absolute warrior. What a time to be a cycling fan!
that's terrible tactic by Jumbo. The team is eithe cocky or just plain dumb. Why is JV pacing Pog up the climb? why is Wout taking those hard pull? Sepp Kuss finished only 3 mins back of the leader and in 10th GC? They are either not using Kuss correctly because he shouldn't be in 10th GC if he's working for JV.
It wasn’t terrible tactics…Pog was just too strong and didn’t crack after Jonas attacked.
@@asiantrick24lol. Youre wrong. If they crack Pog, which they had to test after stage 5, tour is over. It just didn’t work out completely.
@@cincydooley you're talking about the best rider in the world. It's too early to try something like that. JV should have keep it at 80%, and force Pog to take pull. He blew himself up doing all that unnecessary attack. Jumbo were able to isolate Pog, yet their tactics are terrible.
@@asiantrick24 I mean, you’re wrong. Had it worked, the tour is over. It didn’t. And now they know that. Jonas is still up by 30 with the alps yet to come. Now they know what buttons they can press when the air gets real thin.
Just watched entire stage. Cannot fathom Vingegaard pulling Pogacar for so many kilometers, both at Tourmalet and at Cauterets climbs. If you count, Vingegaard was prime domestic for Pogi for a total of +25k - If you count downhill and flat too, Pogi at Vingo's wheel, it's +60km Vingegaard super-domestic for Pogi.
Thats bullshit! Jonas didn't do a turn until about 2k's from the top of the tourmalet, then Wout led him down the mountain about 80% of it, and then only around the last 5 k's Jonas attacked, but just plain wasn't good enough! Jonas hardly did a bloody turn today! He shot his load yesterday trying to gap Pog. WVA goes off the front at the start today, and doing a lot of work to build a big gap so he gets over the Tourmalet before Jonas. Not bloody rocket science to know what Jumbo were planning. Stop with the bullshit fanboy stuff. Jonas was not the same boy today as yesterday. Without Wout today he would have lost minutes to Pog.
Was worried Pogi wasn't going to have the form this year but looks like this tour is going to be great!
Jonas was just tired from the day before and took a chance. He won't make the same mistake again. Sunday Pogachar will lose again.
Your recap is miles better than the "big" networks. This is the first footage showing the crucial moments of the attack. Pogi jumped right on the flare and into the the two motos that bunched up.
5:50 such an epic scene, one to remember
A dogfight in the first week! Brilliant stuff, also big shoutout to Johannesen and Uno-X, great performance.
Masterful reporting, thanks LR
love this recaps. todays stage was insane to watch
2:24 "Macron about to see some fireworks" :()
Plus la change!
this one got me
yes , through investigations around his fake government , there is some fireworks to expect soon
I'm from Denmark and obviously a biiiig part of the country supports Jonas. Even though Pogi is Jonas' biggest opponent he is still very popular here. Nobody wants to see Joans win a boring and defensive TDF. We'd rather have an exiting and fair fight all the way to Paris. I think this is a great example of how sport should be - putting the love for the sport before the love for a driver. Good luck to both drivers and thanks for an extremely entertaining and unpredictable start to the TDF23. May the best man win
If both guys give it their all they are both winners (at least in my eyes). And I would also rather see the vicious battle to the end instead of 2021 repeat (or something like that). Greetings from Slovenia.
I guess many thought the tour was over yesterday when Jonas put a minute on Tadej, but Tadej isn't going to give up that easily. We have a tour on our hands!
Did they not learn from last year when they said it was over after Pog took time in Week 1? Swear some of these people just feel the need to say the dumbest stuff.
@@kelli2783 This! I think Pogacar will fade in the second and for sure in the third week. He just doesn't have the base Jonas trained so hard for. And Jonas is just insane in the TT and on the mountains. He only made up 25 seconds in a flat section. This isn't where the tour is decided imo.
@@LoranMaes pogacar has the best recovery ever seen in the history of cycling, this isn't even open for debate, it's a known fact in the cycling world. and u dn't think he won't last 3rd week? also, u claim jonas is insane in TT and on mountains and yet he relies heavily on wva to do all the leg work, why hasn't he ever do a long range attack then, why does jumbo need to shepherd him all the way to the final 5K everytime?
@@sudsehun76vingegaard learned his lesson today, pogi still in the race for now. Vingegaard will ride defensively and own him in one of the upcoming mountain stages.
@@sudsehun76 Pogacar has trained for 5 weeks. If he can hold this during 3 weeks than that's quite insane and then I don't know how these other guys could've became pro cyclists honestly.
Yes Jonas is better in tt than Pog. And yes he's better in the mountains, have you seen the numbers he pushed 💀.
Oh yeah, why wouldn't he rely on his teammates? Why would he attack earlier on if his team literally demolishes everyone else. That's only good for him no?
jonas pulling pog up both climbs is probably what cost him. in hindsight it should have been a pretty clear tell that he wasn't gonna gap pog the way he was able to follow jonas' attacks seated and glued to the wheel. at that point there's no real reason for jonas to keep pulling, as him and pog are clearly the strongest climber in the field and pog is the one who needs to make up time on jonas, not the other way around.
i'm reminded of that stage of the 2010 tour with schleck and contador doing a track stand on ax 3 domaines. it was a very similar situation with two evenly matched riders head and shoulders above the rest, but the one with the better acceleration/sprint behind on GC. after they went clear of the other GC contenders, schleck refused to pull a turn, but contador wanted to stay behind schleck in order to surprise him with an attack. so, they came to a near standstill several times as the other GC guys whizzed past them. in the end, neither made up any time on the other.
i can't help but think this would have been the correct play for jonas. he does not need to gain time on anyone else but pog if all the other GC guys are getting dropped by kuss on the second to last climb.
yeah pog was stronger today, but i think had jonas played his cards better he would have lost no more than a few bonus seconds. giving pog a free ride for several km on both tourmalet and cauterets was not the move.
Jonas smelled blood in the water after yesterday, so he wanted to drop Pog today and burry him to secure the tour. It’s easy to play it safe, but more often than not taking advantage of a tired/weak opponents works out for the better. No one can fault Jonas for trying to land the killing blow on Pog today. What was shocking was how well Pog recovered to surprise everyone.
At least we have an entertaining tour ahead of us and you can bet Jonas will be more cautious moving forward.
@@Adonis-qj1nq i don't mind jonas pacing pog to the top of tourmalet that much, that was probably the plan from the start. but after not even gaining a centimeter on him with the attack on cauterets, there should have been an adjustment to the tactics. it's on the DS at that point to reel jonas in and tell him to be careful
At some point I heard JV on team radio saying they've got Pog on his knees. It didn't seem that way at all. Maybe abit slower on the decents with the recent crash. But he always has explosive pace to rely on. Well done Pogi.
That was the directeur sportif telling that to Jonas to fire him up. Guess he was mistaken eh!
Great stage by Johannessen aswell. He surprised me alot!
2022 Tour of Norway Stage 3 formbook goes from strength to strength
I was thinking that he might have rode himself into the GC today, then I noticed he was already 23 minutes down or something. Maybe in a few years lol.
Johanessen wil be in top 5 soon
Got to give it to TJV for their tactics. If Jonas was able to get rid of Pog on the tourmalet, and WVA waiting for Jonas, they could have done some serious damage. I'm glad it didn't work out for them, because now the tour is still in full force. But damn, it's crazy to see how much better their tactics are than other teams.
Just like last year the BEST tour coverage out there! And for the record last year was the first time that I found and watched this channel 👍❤️
It was perfect situation for Pogacar. He had Vingegaard alone and no help from teammates when he attacked.
Game on! Game on! 😀😀
It’s like watching two of your favorite super hero’s fight. I don’t want either to lose, but I’m also excited to see who wins.
I’m sure there will be more surprises, hopefully this intensity keeps up!
Great recap and analysis as always. Cut above the rest! Must be busy days for you guys with all the productions.
Chapeau bas à Pogacar.!!! Beau retour... Go,Go,Go UAE.!!!

Wout van Tractor. The man is a competitive monster.
Jonas didn't sound shocked in danish tv tonight, he sounded rather calm and at ease:)
Well good. I confess to being apprehensive about having JV in yellow - too much much extra work controlling, almost not worth it. Almost. Would rather have UAE team exhaust itself on the front every day until the last few stages.
Glad to see Pogi as a challenger in TDF. This year is amazing.
Been waiting all day for this
Enjoying this year tour 👏👏👏
Amazing video as always.
Make a single video on just the finish. Van Aert’s last pull was nothing short of incredible!! It was hilarious when Vin tried to flip pog to take a pull and he rightfully shut that down immediately! 😂
Great stage!
Thank you so much for bringing these! I can’t watch during the week. So this keeps me up to action.
I’m sure he’s not shocked. Neither was pog yesterday. These 2 men are too calm and composed.

Pogy 🧟♂️ back from the dead incredible stage today what a start to the tour! Your recaps have been incredible LR
Excellent coverage!
Shaping up to be a classic!! What a superb start to the Tour.
What an amazing start to the tour. I was thinking back to your route reaction pods - remembering how excited you and Benji were about the Giro route and how unenthused you were about the TDF route. Then we've had just an incredible first week of GC battles (and other excitement) in the tour, and the Giro...well, we all know how that turned out. (I have to be careful not to let the memory of the final TT make me forget how forgettable most of the rest of the Giro was.) Not a knock on your route analysis, just a good reminder that the parcours is only one variable...
Great analysis
Got to love Pogi! He brings a lot of excitement to road cycling, more so than the human metronome Vingegaard
The race is ON
I had a feeling while they were on the Tourmalet and Pog was matching Jonas while staying in the saddle that he was gonna hit him
yep, sunglasses off made the difference! great summary as usual LR
Thanks!
I love these breakdowns - LR best in the biz
Love the POV from behind before Pog launched his attack.
Thank you from Truckee California.
what an epic moment with that attack though the chaos of the fireworks and flares, instant classic.
Jumbo Visma made exactly the same mistake as the UAE did last year. To think that Vingegraad could walk on water. Especially after his performance yesterday. Jumbo just forgot how deep Vingegaard went yesterday. And of course Jonas can't walk on water! Especially not when his opponent is Pogacar!
Awesome stage one of the best in recent years.
