Has Pog got the strongest TDF team ever? 💪
Ever?? We don’t know if they’re the strongest team this year.., yet.
One things for sure, Visma looks to be down heading into the Tour, whereas UAE are heading up. All signs point to advantage Tadej. Last years Visma team was really strong, they were able to sweep all the Grand Tours, but the question was about strongest TDF team, and Roglic wasn't at the Tour last year. 2022 was a really strong Jumbo Visma team when they took shots at Tadej. Can't say this years UAE is the strongest ever, but they certainly look to be the strongest team of the year.
When is cycling going to use a draft like other professional sports so the sport is more competitive?
no Hirchi majka or bjerg seems odd
Nope, Molteni, Merckx, Van Springel, Huysmans, Van Den Bosche
2022 Visma was crazy too: Roglič, Jonas, WVA, Kuss, Laporte, Kruijswijk, Benoot and Van Hooydonck.
When you put it like that 👀
I agree, that's a stronger -and more versatile- team than the UAE 2024 team
it's crazy how things unraveled for Visma this year with the departures + injuries
Agreed, I think last year Jumbo Visma team was one of the strongest ever, that explain the historical results
That’s the strongest team there’s ever been I reckon!!
Rumor has it that Pogacar will even up the score by riding with only one foot on the pedal during the climbs.
Sky 2016 was mental; Froome, Henao, Kiryienka, Rowe, Stannard, Landa, Nieve, Poels and Thomas (admittedly 9 members)
2012 Sky was no slouch either in terms of palmares: Wiggins, Froome, Porte, Mick Rogers, Boasson Hagen, with room to spare for Eisel and Cav
Great teams
Will be a miracle if Jonas is fully competitive . So really Pog and the boys have only to decide how and when to land the hammer blows and the order in which they finish on GC.
POG used to win with the UAE team almost making it more difficult for him.
😂
No Merlier at the TDF is really a shame. I know Remco is the team leader to support, but he isn't going to be anywhere near peak form, and I would be surprised if he even challenges for the podium at all.
what? is this for real? after he clearly defeated philipsen last week?
Easily the 1986 La Vie Claire squad: Hinault, LeMond, Hampsten, Jean Francois Bernard, and Steve Bauer.
Even the Kirby haters have got to love that commentary!
Thanks Dan and crew...
Great update Dan, thank you! You are the most informed on the net. very well presented.
Thanks for the updates.
No, the greatest modern day team is Jumbo Visma 2022. Remember when Roglic and Jonas tricked Tadej.
Lots of love for the 2022 Jumbo team 🙌
Yates was definitely the most important addition, and is VERY steady. Almeida is still a little too inconsistent for my liking, but the talent is there. But the depth of their 8-man roster is far and away the best it's ever been for them.
Almeida inconsistent? Thats not true. He is probably One of the most consistent riders in the world last years.. Just see the races with One week or more and see his classifications.... Always in the top .
Certainly the most dope team.
The only problem I see for Pog and UAE is getting the yellow jersey too early and burning off his team mates defending it. I also think Primož Roglič could do a "Cadel Evens" and leave Pog and Jonas fight it out, keep his powder dray for as long as possible and takenitnin the last week?
Didn't everyone say the same thing during the Giro this year?
The fact that this year's tour de france finishes with an ITT after 3500 km and it is a time trial of 35 km with a lot of mountain could change a lot from that's have been in the last 3 years, remember 2020 ,when POGI snatched his first TDF win on the last day (except the Paris stage ),without big differences between the 4 horsemen that last stage will be epic !
JV last year was pretty damn strong
UAE is going to CRUSH everyone at the Tour!!
I think team Visma LaB is totally ready and fully recovered for the TdF.
Being danish I might be slightly biased ;) but one thing is sure - its gonna be a great TdF!
you are my favourite dessert
@@harrismazari5484 Thank you! :) a little too fat, but sweet and irresistible..thats me
Lots of strong teams mentioned below -- but just an interesting note: Adam Yates, Ayuso, and Almeida have all finished on a Grand Tour podium. I'd be interested to know whether a team has ever started the Tour with four riders with Grand Tour podiums...
Wow, so Jonas is back on the bike and training hard again? I really hope he's in condition to compete against Poga.
This, assuming they are all fit, could be the most highly contested Tour for sometime.
Looking forward to seeing Pog and his GCs in Tdf
Fill the podium?
I really hope that Jonas is present at the Tour. The question on everyone’s mind is Will Jonas be in the form qto compete with Roglic and Pogi? Unfortunately Remco does not, have the killer form in the high altitude mountains needed to compete against UAE and Jumbo.
I have no idea who is going to win, but I do anticipate that it will be one amazing fight.
Ever here of la via claire?
100% and zero question about! Multiple TDF winners and the only American winner of the Giro!
What counts as the strongest team? Strongest riders on average, or most likely to win GC, or most likely to win stages? Very different criteria.
Still a bit puzzled why Brandon McNulty isn’t on the TdF squad 🤔
I've heard that just like Mikkel Bjerg, he asked to be drafted into the Giro squad instead of the Tour, because of the Olympics.
Onimous message. Never heard of that before.
You aminal.
2009 Astana team was very strong too: Contador, Armstrong, Kloden, Leipheimer, Zubeldia, Popovych, Paulinho, Rast, Muravyev.
That would have been my pick as well.
I agree..
and 100% of them were doping at least up to 2008
I would like to see Jonas a 100% before TDF. If not, I suggest to skip this year and aim for Giro where Pogacar is likely to defend his throne. This would be an interesting comeback.
He is going to La Vuelta 100%
Good T shirt 😊😊😊 love from Rwanda❤🎉
I noticed on Chris Horners channel that he thinks uae are not at their strongest,
i have not fully watched it, mainly because i feel his analysis is slightly of as uae as you pointed out that when pog is in the team that they are indeed a better team for it, his team know he is on fire this season & that this year's tdf has his best chance yet if all goes well of winning so the team will do what ever is required to support pog, regarding visma i don't think anybody else is sure about them either, due to injuries & the lack of vans presence in races building up to tdf, bora i think will be aiming for the green jersey as well as stage wins,.
Either way the 2024 tdf will be yet another fascinating chapter in the races history & one not to be missed.
I mean it could have been better. I think McNulty would be better domestique than Sivakov.
We can find plenty of teams in the past that can match the current UAE Tour de France team, but I will of course no deny that the team UAE will send is super strong.
Jumbo/Visma 2023 TdF squad was stronger and not skewed towards the climbing goats but all around rouleurs to pull pelotons and keep the baroudeurs under tight leash. They won three jerseys finishing with 4 only riders!
No, the strongest TdF team was Jumbo-VISMA in 2022
Visma was strong last year in all the tours, but 2024 its different bike game, UAE. It's sad for Tim Merlier missing out in the mixing it up for sprinting glory. QS need some kinda glory which Merlier could bring
The strongest team is the 2012 Sky. Their support rider is the best rider in the Tour.
Maybe for sprint finish stages UAE are not the strongest leadout train as there are other teams with bigger guns, but other than that in big mointains stages they could do do real damage for other GC teams.
What about Bjerg? He was a madman in ‘23!
Dopeicos
I think they will go for a 1-2-3 and all the jerseys!
Now that would be impressive! If you can, why not 🙌
Would make No sense. Not Sprinter, mountain Jersey will BE irrelevant for the Team, and there roglic and vingegqqre
Jumbo style at the Vuelta
Green jersey is for Cav 😂
Wat? No chance 😂
well i guess for this upcoming tdf. tvl is quiet for now. if vingo is in shape the show will be exciting
When you have Tadej Pogacar and then they can choose from : Adam Yates ,Juan Ayuso ,João Almeida ,Felix Grossschartner ,Mikel Bjerg ,Nils Pollit ,Tim Wellens .. or Rafa Majka ,Marc Soler ,Damen Novak ,Marc Hirschi ,Brandon Mc Nulty ,Rui Oliveira, Pavel Sivakov, Juan S.Molano. over here there's already 2 teams and just in case if needed they have Alessandro Covi, Isaac del Toro, António Morgado ,Jan Christen ,in those 20 names without Tadej there are 19 riders that the team managers have to pick 7 to complete the team for the most important objective of the season, win the tour de France , after the last 2 editions "only " getting the second place even if last year they had 2 riders in the podium, 2nd and 3rd ,the main goal is to get back the first place that they had conquered in 2020 and 2021 !
If they win all 3 grand tour they’ll earn the right to be compared to last year’s jumbo visma.
Sure it is
For me the strongest TDF team was when Wiggins and Froome were together
@GCN what size T-Shirt is Dan wearing? I have similar body stats as Dan so it would be helpful to know what fits well.
It's a medium. Thanks for the support! Dan
@@gcnracing thanks, I appreciate it
If Jonas was actually good to go and be competitive they wouldn't say that its going to be a last minute decision. The photo with him is not surprising, Visma has been doing this all spring trying to create buzz.
No race or race team is predictable in result. Luck plays a major role always!
Not from Almeida at least, he was a class act on the tour of Swiss
Correction: Chris Boardman got a CBE, not an MBE as stated. I have no idea if that's better or not.
He was an MBE after the 92 Olympics, made a CBE this week.
CBE > MBE.
Is an 'ah-nimus' sign similar to an ominous sign?
I hope everyone has a coffee enema before the tour
Guys, did I miss smth? Why there was no word about Rafal Majka?
What is the old saying? When the cat is away - the mice will play…
UAE were easily bashed and bullied out of last year’s tour by Visma. Until Jonas and Wout are back fit, they best enjoy it while they can - it is theirs to lose….
UAE team is incredibly strong and made more so by fact their only real rivals Visma have had an awful run of luck with bad accidents. TdF is Pogacars to lose.
Jonas pronounces his own name as "Jonas Vingegaard".... why do you refer to him as Vingego??
I just hope Jonas has some sort of race fitness, or fear the tour could be a procession as much as the giro
5:45 That's only 1 ride/day. Getting through 21 stages in 23 days without any real competition prior is a completely different story.
This week's feature: _The French Collection_ starring Daniel Lloyd
84 Renault 1st 10 stages ,86 La vie cLaire 1,2,4 6 stages 3 jerseys
No idea why merlier hasn’t been taken especially as seeing remco doesn’t have as much of a chance against the other gc favourites in the mountains in my opinion
Because Old Uncle Partick has his favourites, and if you're a favourite, you're protected...
Until he has a 3 bottle lunch with a journalist. Then you're fucked.
Don't forget about Sir Road Furniture... he's got wins when no one is there.

What happened to the GCN website. Haven't seen an update in days...
Google "gcn layoffs"
The founders of GCN have just bought back the youtube channel and the website so it's probably in temporary limbo. (Note that broadcasting rights are now owned by warner bros so this does not mean the return of GCN+)
@@freshpickings Thanks! I was getting worried that something else had happened. Love GCN and miss GCN+
According to the reports I’ve seen, the website has closed and the staff who compiled it have been made redundant.
@@johnwestwell2241 Oh I didn't see any mention of layoffs in the article I read! After a search it seems unclear whether the website is actually shutting or if it's continuing with fewer staff?
I don't see any issue of too many cooks in the kitchen for UAE, they all KNOW that Pogi is the leader. The only way this will be an issue is if ill fortune befalls Pogi.
UAE will be fine cause Pog is leader... Don't underestimate Vismo.. I feel they are sandbagging and will come into Tour in fine form
Pog is definitely the most likely to succeed, but I think the tight-lipped policy of Visma/LeaseaBike about Jonas, with no numbers, actually speaks volumes. Keeping the statistics for Jonas a secret actually keeps his competitors at a disadvantage.
The 1980 TI Raleigh was the strongest team by far.
N1no still doesn't get the plaudits he deserves.......The perfect XCO racer.
Alright, let's skip the Tour de France drama and just hand out those championship trophies like candy. Give UAE Team and GC Championship or even the Poka Dot/Moutain Jersey too!
Will Netflix be at this year's Tour again? If so, then it'll be another Visma win. Past two years can't just be a coincidence can it?? Visma riders are clearly motivated by the Netflix cameras! 😄
I dont understand why Del Toro is not part of the team for the Tour
It is the strongest climbing team. But there really is no use in having so many GC guys in your team if your main goal is to win the overall race. At the end it will only come down to whether Pogi is stronger than Jonas.
Do you think it could create issues within the team? 👀
@@gcnracing Not as long as Pogi is in the race, he will not accept it.
Not really. The team will have huge impact. 2021 Pogi was probably stronger than 2021 Jonas, but Pogi cracked because he was racing Roglic and WVA at the same time as Jonas!
Surely Jonas cannot be expected to perform at his peak this year ??
The Thing you should consider: a GC Rider AS helper IS the best helper. Look at Kuss. Kuss was considered to be the succesor of roglic
_If I were Patrick Lefevre..._ (aside from begging forgiveness and joining a convent), I'd accept the inevitable Remco-climbing-collapse BEFORE the Tour begins, then bring Merlier AND Alaphilippe along to create a Three-Pronged Quick-Step Attack for Stages - aim for 6-8
UAE playing Pro cycling manager in real life ...😂
I think Jonas is going to be very close to 100%
the only issue is are almeida and ayuso going to act like domestiques and truely sacrifice themselves for their leader. maybe having mika there instead of one of them would make a more cohesive team.
😮😮😮😮
Sky, Radio Shack, Discover all had stacked racers that had very specific roles. UAE Is stacked with lots of overall riders that seem to be league above that can do everything.
IMO having one rider winning #1 is the goal
💉 💉
The sport is filthy .... but I'll be watching 😊
Why isnt Rafal Majka there? He is always a very consistent domestique.
He has Giro in his legs its too risky considering this year TdF third week is the hardest in decades. Its better to take someone fresher.
La Vie Claire Hinault,Lemond ,Fignon And Hampstein strongest team I have seen
I don't know who will win but I think Matteo will finish higher than Remco
Bring back GCN+ pleasseeee😢
Allez, I bet Speciallized comes after you!!!
Pogi is walking away with it this year it seems.
The only problem on this lineup is Soler. He has way too much ego that will cause their team chemistry for the upcoming TdF lmao
he wins a tour 9mins ahead of the all pack. Finish stages without a sign of fatigue. During one stage an Italian rider tried to follow him like 500m…a pro rider not a junior and he had to stop. Yates is now flying like when he was at this prime. Yes that team is very good. UAE is ex Lampre notoriously famous and I will let you do your own research on whom they have employed as sport directors (Fabrizio Guidi, Andrej Hauptman…)
UAE suspect
Best team money can buy. Top talent, dirty-oil money, Nobel worthy pharmacology - all managed by the two dirtiest veteran DSs in the business.
Team Sky when Froome was winning.
No, it is not the best team ever.
I, for one, an a cycling fan; and I think most of those that follow your channel are too fans.
I, for one, do not need absurd headings to watch you content (which is consistently great).
I would submit the doped up 2001 Postal Team
I hope anyone or team wins except UAE.$$$$$$$$
Top climbing team for sure, but who's gonna chase breakaways and work in crosswinds?
Pollit and Wellens.
Its a Dackel, not a Schnitzel.
It's a rat on a string.
