    Practicing my 20’ putts was the reason I won my first tournament. As someone who try’s to play par golf 1 bad upshot or having a chance at birdie puts me at 20’ quite a bit. Having confidence in these has changed my game drastically. Being able to save pars and take advantage of the few birdie opportunities i get has helped so much.

      @@amitch2553 nice!! This year was my first full season of actually competing and have started in MA3 because buddies I play with were like you are good enough for MA3. I have 2 wins but it was on do/die birdie courses and just had good putting those days but normally in the middle of the pack. From what I have seen in MA3 is can you be consistent at hitting the 15-30ft putts to keep your round going.

    I semi-recently changed my putting routine and it improved my putting a decent bit. It was something i heard from Isaac Robinson at a clinic when he was asked about why he doesnt seem to have a routine. He said he does, but he does it before he gets to his lie. It got me thinking. I used to play basketball back in the day and never had a long free throw routine. It was one dribble and shoot. Just like it would probably be in live play. So since I can sit 20-30 ft away and play catch and put it right into someone's chest I decided to treat it the same way. Before i get to my putt i do all my analyzing conditions, distance, jump putt or not, more loft, etc. Then as i step to my lie I look away from the basket, spin the disc in my off hand, grab it naturally in my right and look up and find my small aim point and fire it with conviction. It kind of blew me away how immediate the better results were. I still miss some I shouldnt, but ive gained strokes and i have so much more confidence and less stress.

    Here’s a tip for those 20 footers. If you have 5-10 of the same putters. 100 putts a day(not just rapid firing) is chump change. Takes me 15-20 minutes to get 100. Everyone has atleast an extra 15-20 minutes at the end of the day. If you wanna get good at putting those 20 footers. Do 200-300 a few days a week

    the sibling to “throw more understable to get more left” is “throw higher to get more left”. i feel like we spend so much time trying to perfect our release angle for stock shots that we sometimes forget that giving a disc more air to work with can give it more time to finish if that’s what the shot needs.

    Only RPM tip I have for putting is to spin putt and make sure your stroke goes from at least 9/10 to 12 (ideally) but if you can learn the trajectory you can go past it. I also believe Calvin said his putt has so much steam on it from finger pop and you can practice and improve it by simply putting into the air while sitting down or doing anything.

    For tournament play the tip of play within your game, the 20ft putt, and shot variety (close to scramble, but different). Perhaps a caveat on the first two tips. During fun play and maybe even tournament prep, push the boundaries...this is a practice round by the way! We should be improving, so push outside the comfort level and see what you can do. For instance, I was playing a practice round with a RHFH dominate player. We were at a 300ft hole that I almost never birdie. Super frustrating b/c it is wide open. He asked about my forehand, and I had recently recorded my max distance with a FH at 275ft with an older Force. He convinces me to get outside of my little box and throw the FH with that disc. What! Bullseye! Birdie! This applies to the 20ft putt. Trevor is right practice that 20ft putt at home (100 putts per day); it does help. But on the course and especially during practice rounds before tournaments, run those longer putts. You need the practice, anyway, so run those longer C1 edge and C2 edge. When you are drilling 20fters at home, and you start hitting chains at 40ft, you begin to develop better aim, better strategy, and better scoring. Simon's tip for Uli - practice the 100ft putt so that you can start improving your C2 putting average.

    or competitive play, talking on becoming a "master" of your division before moving up is huge. The biggest shift for me moving from a MA3 player to MA1 and some Open level play has been mindset. a phrase that stuck with me and helped me understand mindset as a rec player was "learn how to win." There is nothing wrong with playing for pars, but also if you get a chance to show off, do so. Executing a shot you know you are good at, that can be a challenge for others will boost your confidance.
    Reward yourself for accomplishing a goal is also a great tip. I had a goal to cash a MPO event this year before leaving for a deployment and did so iin my first 2 events in a crazy 2 C teir weekend where i shot both my best round and worst round of the season!

    Hey Trevor, with putting, I have to remember to grip the putter a lot harder than I'm naturally inclined to. If I don't, it A) doesn't come out with any speed and B) often slides off of my fingers, leading to it being extra nose-down. The amount of times I've hit dead center pole beneath the cage is too high. Good luck getting better.

    This is a great tip!! Because of my home course, it enforced this practice, if you got off the fairway, it demanded scrambling.The Sinks, Chattanooga Tennessee.
    I dedicated half a year to only throwing FH rollers off the Tee, for casual rounds. I come from a broad spspectrum of athletic interests growing up, tennis and outfield Baseball helped me dail this one in. But on a wooded tunnel fairway course, I was able to find my landing zones and dial in the shot. People have Nicknamed me Rolling Rob. "Did somebody say Roller?" TM 😂

    • @raidonbay
      @raidonbay Před 3 měsíci

      13:30 "....or a roller in the woods."
      I learned FH rollers in the woods.
      You sometimes only have a 15-30 ft landing zone where this "can" work.
      So often with root systems in the woods there's a digression further down the fairway.
      My idea, if you don't try it, you will never know what will work. There's only a few friends that will follow my lead, "Rollers, who's doing it?"
      Most would think that's stupid, but that's debatable.

    I need to practice more 20 footers in my backyard! I really want to have a similar putting style to Gannons with out the left hip reach! I go to about my belt buckle and lift my back leg after I push off it, kinda like Simons putt! I have been making way more circle 2 putts which is awesome, but the problem I'm having is getting a better arm so I'm more able to reach a lot more holes at my local course! Which means I'm more often in circle one range which, I'm not complaining about! It's just that I can't make a single circle one putt! And my confidence is so thin that if I'm in circle 1 on the first hole and I miss the putt, I won't make another circle 1 putt the rest of the round! So I've started pulling back on my throws so I can hopefully score better which is something I don't like doing at all! I'm confident I could score a -10 on my local course. I probably have played that course 900 days of the past 3 years! My best round was -7 and I missed some puts and had some bogeys at, and at one point I was at -11, but there was a group ahead of us, and they had seen how well I was playing, they had to say say something before I putted, and of course I missed the 30 footer and I fell apart! Oh well at least I know what I'm capable of! I had 2 ace chain outs that day! We get a lot of snow in the winter and it gets cold! I suck playing cold! I would play it 365 days a year if it wasn't so cold and snowy! It's a great course all the holes have multiple pin locations and they just put in new benches and new PDGA sized tee pads which is awesome! So I guess its time to go practice some 20 footers in the backyard! My putting style does not work without confidence at all! So I got to go build some! Awesome video! I haven't even finished the video yet, and it inspired me to practice! So thank you! I'm positive it will help! Practice, practice, practice! And I've been working on backhand rollers as well and getting pretty decent, about 300 most of the time! I always throw it on the last hole no matter what pin placement! So I can call playing a round casually for fun, counting for a bit of practice if I do the same throw on the same hole Everytime no matter what! I've watched foundation for quite a a while now and I've listened to the podcast! There both great, but I've only watched this channel for 11 minutes and it has already made me want to subscribe! I'll never be bored of watching discs fly, it's fucking awesome!

    I've been desperately trying to figure out how to put more spin on my disc. I'll try moving my thumb position tomorrow. Hopefully I'll see some results!

    I have noticed RPMs from the first time i played in Aug. My forehand can go just over 300, and my arm barely moves.
    Unfortunately, I'm one step below noodle arm.

    Trevor you need to try bringing the putter back to you’re belt line and put a lil spin on it as you release flat (extending you’re arm)instead of where you are currently ( from thigh) with you’re arm already fully extended

    I know you don’t need my criticism, and you may already be aware of this, but one thing I’ve noticed on your putts is you generate the power with your legs then you wait just a tad bit too long to bring the arm through. I had a horrible habit of doing this and it caused me to hit the front of the basket or even the bottom pole nearly every time. On several of your putts, the arm and feet looked more like one motion and timing was much better and you made most of those. Also, think about using your hand to get the disc in the basket and less arm. Seems counterintuitive for consistency but just try it. Love your new channel by the way! Not trying to be Mr. Big Man with all the answers, I’ve just been through the same struggles and I know you are good enough to get through them as well.

      I agree, draw your arm back at the same time as you rear backward, start your hips moving forward then start the throw as you lift your rear foot all with no jerky motions, smooth back, smooth accelerate forward

    Taking my pointer finger off the rim of the disc while putting felt so weird but has instantly made me a better putter - went from far below average to slightly below average... Still translated to an extra stroke or two less per round!

    • @NotSoFast71
      @NotSoFast71 Před 5 měsíci

      Same here. I used to have to throw high, rainbow putts at 20+ feet. I took the finger off the rim like he showed in the other video and it’s not laser flat, but much lower in trajectory. Plus, I make a lot more shorter putts (15-20 feet) that before.

  • @Juliano_DJOL
    @Juliano_DJOL Před 4 měsíci

    20' putt or between 5-7 steps from the basket which = 15-21 ft is what I wld say is the most important! Even 5 steps and shorter!
    I am normally cash $ in the circle but have struggles from 30'+ sometimes, but I take my in the circle putts all day!

    New to the game. I used to be a club golf professional. So it’s new terminology. But I’m Less than a month in and Im having issues with my forehand. I would like to see how you grip the disc and do you need to snap the wrist?

    Trevor I greatly appreciate your educational videos. They have helped me personally. I am by no means an expert but watching you put your releasing on hyper. Try pushing your elbow down slightly. This May get a flatter release.

    Playing in my first tournament and i threw my avenger ss. Mid hyzer it flips up to dead straigh, baby hyzer, flip up to easy turnover. I accidentally threw it with lots of hyzer and it just sailed left. Went pin high but it went deep into the woods and down a hill. So you really can move left with that technique. Lol.

    Also, if you're trying to improve, always attempt the "proper play". I know this can be difficult if you're keeping score and playing with buddies even just for bragging rights but I've relished in my time this year playing alone and allowing myself to make thousands of mistakes in the spirit of developing my skill. If you don't know the proper play, don't worry about it, or take that time to realize you can slow down and think for a minute.
