Having NEVER done ANY compounding or polishing before, I elected to do just the top rail on my 2008 Triton boat. Watching the gelcoat gloss disappear while wet sanding (800 then 1000 grit), MY HEART STOPPED! (WHAT HAVE I DONE!!) I then methodically did the heavy cut with my 20V DEWALT and white wool pad, then medium cut with a YELLOW wool pad...MY GAWD the sparkle and shine was INCREDIBLE! I then applied a finishing polish (again with a YELLOW wool pad), then I applied a JESCAR POWER LOCK PLUS sealant. The hydrophobic properties of that sealant allowed me to watch water droplets just race off the boat's finish yesterday on a fishing trip. SO COOL! My 2008 Triton looks better than it did BRAND NEW! Amazing what a little elbow grease and some top shelf polishing compound will do! Thank You for such a well ORGANIZED and detailed video, Drake's Detailing! I am one VERY HAPPY boat owner, now!
Thank you for taking the time to write this! It does my heart good to see that my videos are helping people! Please reach out anytime with any questions! 😎💯
ShineSupply FTW!
💯💯💯😎
Great job, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!👍🏻😎
I really appreciate your hard work and time, thanks for the video Drake 👍😁
My pleasure!
Wow! what difference!
For sure!!
Soldi! Thank you
👍🏻💯🔥🔥
Just did my first correction and coating on a brand new boat this past weekend and I wish I would’ve watched this video first. Definitely a lot more work than I expected
Yeah, everybody thinks when they come from a dealer they are perfect, nope! It can definitely be deceiving
great video
Thanks!
Nice!!!
Thanks!
I just bought a new boat here in mobile .. I’m watching all the videos I can before giving this Robalo 246 a good gloss !!
That’s awesome! 😎
Another great video. Thanks for the tips. Where do you get your wash mitts?
Shine supply sells them: shinesupply.com/products/detail-factory-detailing-brushes
Beautiful work ! boat & video. Fairly new to boating and have purchased a recent model 19’ SeaRay Black ! It’s already in the water. I realize pulling the boat for good wash, detail and polishing is the best approach but not really practical now. I would love your recommendation and guidance on best practices to best maintain gel coat while in season (in water) boating. Thank you !
Hey bro! Here’s a great video I did a short while back that will explain how to keep your boat looking great all season long!
@@DrakesDetailing Hi Drake thanks for responding, but I don’t see a Link. You have so many videos I want to be sure I’m seeing the one you recommended.
Love your videos! Question, what and how do you restore rubber rub rail? My fiberglass looks amazing but the rub rail needs help.
If there’s a lot of scrapes and scuff in the rubber, take some acetone with either a magic eraser or a rag, and it will take them right out.
Awesome video Drake!! 🔥🔥🔥 Quick question, i have a Sportsman and noticed after 3 years the inside fiberglass doesnt seem as white as when i first got it. Any recommendation to remove the yellowing back to original state?
Hey bro! Are you buffing and sealing the surface every season? That could potentially have something to do with it. Also, makes sure you are using non-harmful soap.
i worked for a malibu dealer and my god the factory defects and amount of fiberglass chunks in the compartment and swirl marks on unbelievable for a 200-250k boat is insane
Yep! I see it all the time haha
Your attention to detail is impressive. Do you detail in the Destin, FL area?
Hey bro! Unfortunately we don’t travel to Destin, how big is the boat? If you can bring it to me, I would love to do it!
Working on a 2018 34ft Chaparral with a black hull and the customer says it’s NEVER been waxed and I can tell! Dude the oxidation is insane. Doing a 4 step right now and got him scheduled for a wet sand next season. Appreciate all your videos bro you have no idea how much you’ve helped me and my business! If you ever have a second, you should do an updated video about pricing and different packages/maintenance plans you offer. I watched your first one about pricing a few times but an updated one would be awesome. Thanks again brotha!
P.S. I spent about 1500 between ShineSupply and Maxshine a couple weeks ago and used your Drake15 code! Dude the best products I’ve ever had and that 15% off is so clutch! Hey, would you apply wax after using Wake Up? Or in your opinion, is Wake Up a good enough protection not needing wax on top?
Thanks so much bro!! I really appreciate the support! I personally wouldn’t rely and wake up solely for protection, after all of your correction. I would recommend applying a coat of just car power lock after the wake up step to really seal in the surface.
@@DrakesDetailing yessir gotchu! Placing another order on ShineSupply rn with your code lol and okay cool appreciate it. I remember you saying that Jescar PowerLock is the best for salt water since regular carnauba wax doesn’t last long in the salt, I’m in Michigan so all my customers are fresh water boats. Would Jescar PowerLock still be one of the best options to use? Also, you got a code I can use on a website that sells Jescar? 😂
@@dean7416you can use clutch & punch it as well to follow the wake up
just bought a new Pontoon boat.. the toons were all water stained from being in an in water boat show during the season for a coupe months... Pulled, and left uncleaned where the toons stained.. What would you use on the toons to restore to newish, without whitening effect of an acid wash.
m.czcams.com/video/QrF-McBOEHQ/video.html
Hey bro! This is really the only thing to do to restore a mirror shine….
If you don’t want to get that in-depth, a heavy degreaser with a pressure washer will do it justice for the time being.
Question. What's your code so when I buy some shine supply I help you out. It's time to start again on my seadoo jet boats. Thanks
Thank you!! It’s DRAKE15 at checkout only on www.shinesupplymarine.com products 🤘
Just did a skeeter fishing boat, said it just needed washed. When i was done buffing it they said it looks far better than when they got it new.
Sweet!!! that’s always what we want to hear😎
Amazing video Drake! Question, I just did a 38ft boat by myself, and it took me 2 days to correct, polish and ceramic coat the exterior of the boat (including engines, transom area). How much did this job take for you?
Hey bro, this one was about two days
Get a pair of day/night safety glasses. They don’t auto darken or color shift, but they protect your eyes during the day and hugely improve vision in sunny environments where sunglasses are too dark to see the reflection of scratches.
Thanks for the tip!
How much more per foot do you charge for ceramic coatings versus jescar power lock??
It all goes by foot, per step that I do. Typically for something like that. With all the steps included, it would be around $100 per foot.
Hey man, been following your channel and tired of paying to have my boat detailed. It’s bit older, it’s a 2003 mako 282 center console. But I’ve been watching the videos trying to dissect what I really need to buy machine wise. Obviously need a rotary polisher so have that taken care of and also ordered the maxshine mini. But the da polishers are what are getting me in a bind. Really trying to decided between what throw I should go with for the overall best bang for my buck. 8mm, 12mm, 15mm, 21mm???? I had a 21mm in my cart since I feel like it’ll help move me along on the hull but feeling as it may fall short (too big? Too much throw?) on the topside and inside the boat. Any help would be awesome. Thanks for all your tips so far!
Hey bro! Me personally, I’d go with a 15 throw. Easier to work in small areas
@@DrakesDetailing thinking of going all battery powered wasn’t sure if you have a recommendation for that?
I've watched all your videos, and they've really sparked my interest in the boat detailing business. However, I'm unsure how to begin. I've been searching for professional courses but haven't found any. Are you planning to offer courses soon, or do you have any recommendations for trusted training programs?
Hey bro! I don’t have any classes or training seminar scheduled, but we do offer a week of hands-on training for a fee. If you are interested, please send me a DM to my Instagram or Facebook account. Thanks so much!
What did you do for the seats? What did you use to wash and protect?
Typically, I will grease my seats using either diluted, super clean or purple power and then agitate it with magic eraser to get the dirt out. Then, I will go ahead and condition, the vinyl with a product like Shine Supply Sunsetter vinyl cleaner and conditioner.
Hey drake when you use heavy cut from shine supply what rpm do you use? Also to remove holograms I would use chop top with the yellows wool pad and finish it with wake and the orange foam pad? Also at what speed do you use the da with the orange pad?
Hey man! That is the correct sequence of steps 👍🏻
You can run shine supply up to about 1500 RPM’s. With the orange pad on the DA, I’d go around speed setting 4.
@@DrakesDetailing question brother to clean yellow and brown stain from the hull its the portion that seat in the water, what chemical would you use? I have trouble removing it use heavy cut compound and medium cut compound. Feed me some knowledge brother.
I have noticed you have in the past used Menzerna 400 to remove swirls after coumpounding. Can Menzerna 400 also be used as a compound with a wool pad on gel coat?
It definitely can! However, after years of doing this, I’ve noticed it works just as good, if not better as a swirl, removing polished than a heavy cutting compound.
@@DrakesDetailing Thanks Drake Keep up the great work
Did you buff off the rubbing alcohol with a clean rag before the ceramic? Also did you use rubbing alcohol on the screens and ceramic coat the screens as well?
Yes, I do try to do a prep white before all my ceramic applications. If stainless and screens and stuff are getting coated, then, yes I do. If not, then they do not get wiped.
How long does the beadlock ceramic coating take to set? Is it something that can sit overnight and the boat can be put in the water the next morning or does it take a week? Thanks!
The next day in the water you should be completely fine. Just try to limit water exposure as much as possible 24 hours-ish after you coat
In your pad video you say use the ccs with the da and the force with the force rotations. Do the force pads work well with a da ?
You can use the forest with a DA, it just doesn’t really work too well and wasn’t designed for that machine.
@DrakesDetailing I came from the mechanic world and have been at a very good mastercraft dealer for the last 3 years. Just recently started my own gig and added detailing to be versatile. Base alot of what I do off your videos and it's turning out to be amazing. Thank you so much.
That’s awesome!! 😎 thanks so much!
How many hours did it take you from start to finish ?
Hey bro! I don’t know exactly, but it definitely took a few days 👍🏻
What does a job like this run?
Around $15 per foot, per step that I do to the boat 😎
Are you using 70% alcohol? is it diluted?
Typically, I just use the isopropyl alcohol that you can find at CVS👍🏻
Bro you need worker won’t regret having me on your team
Thanks for the offer! We should be all set for a while. Thanks though! 💯💯
Want to come to Wisconsin to make my new boat shine? Haha
Haha now right now, but maybe some day! 😎
One more great video! I've been following your channel for quite some time as I intend to do some restorations on my own boats. I wonder if you could let me know if the video "czcams.com/video/B1hQmDrYQwg/video.html" and the products and techniques in it would apply to a heavily etched polycarbonate glass on a 2001 Quicksilver 620 Pilothouse, or if you have a better suggestion. Just imagine the front window is so badly affected it actually impairs a viewing especially on a bright day. I would definitely hire you to do it for me.... but being all the way in Portugal.... just might be an issue ;-)
Hey bro! Yes, you can definitely try using this method. It definitely will not hurt and we’ll make it look good. However, if it’s etched as much as you say it’s etched, you may want to resort to a light grid compound before you do this, such as Menzerna 2400.
$2500 detail?
This was $8,000 🤘
@@DrakesDetailing Thats more like it! my original math came out that high but I wasn't sure! Rock on brother.
That’s about a $200k+ boat. The dealer and manufacturer should be ashamed.
Agreed ha ha
Year after year new boats are worst and worst
Worse and worse for sure
For sure!
