    Hi Drake, love your videos. What makes you decide on what you're using. For example; I notice that on some videos you use Chop-Top religiously after the heavy cut, and some you skip and go into the wake-up. Whats the thought process there? Thank you in advance and many blessings!

    • @DrakesDetailing
      @DrakesDetailing Před 6 hodinami

      Hey bro! It all boils down to every single gelcoat being different. Sometimes wake-up is enough to remove the swirls if we use the right pad, and others we need to throw another step into it to pull more imperfections out. It also depends on what the customer is paying for. To save them some money, sometimes we go straight to wake up to eliminate another step in the process to keep costs down.

      The Jarred does not replace the medium cut compound, just car is just a straight sealant. After your final polishing stuff is when you apply the Jescar.

    • @DrakesDetailing

      Cutting, is removing an oxidized layer of the gelcoat and exposing a new shiny layer by using a rotary buffer, a wall wheel, and heavy cutting rubbing compound to expose that new layer of shiny gelcoat underneath the oxidized layer.

    • @DrakesDetailing

      You can rinse them off lightly and miss them, just don’t jet them 100% of the time and make sure they don’t get submerged. Otherwise, it’s all good. At the end of the day, they are on a boat.😊

  • @thearr08

    Wouldn’t buffing, polishing, and waxing the hull take ages when splitting the boat up into 2-3 foot sections since you have to wait 30 minutes for the wax to soak into the boat? Is there a more efficient way to do this? I was thinking you maybe just buff and polish the full half of the hull, then apply the wax at the end, let it dry, and then wipe it all off. Would that be a good way to go about doing this? P.S. I wouldn’t be using the same polish as you, so I wouldn’t be waiting for that to set in (unless you always let the polish soak in) And one more thing. If I am using foam pads for the polish and microfiber pads for the wax, how would I go about cleaning these pads? I would assume the pad spur would be too rough for them, but maybe not.

    • @thearr08
      @thearr08 Před 5 dny

      Also thank you so much for this video, it was extremely helpful!

    • @thearr08
      @thearr08 Před 5 dny

      One more thing. Sorry for asking so many questions, I am just getting started on boat detailing with some friends. If I only would like to buy one buffer (the makita 9237), is it okay if I also use it for polishing and waxing. I was wondering since I noticed you switched to a different buffer for polishing and waxing.

    • @DrakesDetailing
      @DrakesDetailing Před 4 dny

      If you’re going to use one machine, make sure it’s the Makita rotary buffer, not the orbital. At least you were able to cut with the rotary, and do all the other steps.

    • @DrakesDetailing
      @DrakesDetailing Před 4 dny

      When I say split up in sections, just work in 2 x 2 areas to make sure you control the quality. If you’re running down the entire side of a hall willy-nilly, it’s very easy to not pay attention a certain certain spots you missed.

    • @thearr08
      @thearr08 Před 4 dny

      Yeah I was also wondering if you could do all the steps with a rotary buffer or if you actually need a different buffer for steps 2 and 3.

    • @jeffbryner5355
      @jeffbryner5355 Před 4 dny

      @thearr08 I have been in paint and body for the last 30 years and done my fair share of buffing I have used only a rotary buffer period. I have never seen anyone use a orbital except for applying a glaze or wax. I even did my own boat the same way but if the orbital buffer is a better option and cuts down on time then I'm in because I'm doing my aunts 30ft searay here real soon before they store it for the winter.

    • @thearr08
      @thearr08 Před 4 dny

      @@jeffbryner5355 Oh, makes sense. Thank you for the response. Do you know anything about microfiber and foam pad? If so, I was wondering how you clean them, because I assume a spur which you use to clean wool pads would be too rough to use on a foam or microfiber pad, but maybe not.

    • @DrakesDetailing
      @DrakesDetailing Před 4 dny

      I’m not familiar with 3M’s products, so I can’t really tell you what step finesse falls in, but yes, heavy cutting step isn’t with Wolf head and a rotary, medium cut/Schill removing is done with a rotational polisher and a foam pad, then your sealant is applied with a dual action polisher with a microfiber pad.

    • @jeffbryner5355
      @jeffbryner5355 Před 3 dny

      @DrakesDetailing finesse-it falls in between heavy cut and a polish. It takes out the heavy cut scratches. I have always used in with rotary makita buffer. Wasn't sure if a DA would be a better choice. I have never used a DA polisher when buffing.

    • @DrakesDetailing
      @DrakesDetailing Před 4 dny

      The Lake country formal blend pad is an amazing Inbetweeners pad from rotary cutting to your force rotation polishing. It really helps break down the swirl mark, so then you can switch to an orange pad and pull the swirls out even better. It’s just an in between step from rotary cuttingto forced rotation.
