Good habits make success possible. Whether you’re trying to get a promotion, meet new people, or look and feel healthy, a regimen of good habits is the surest path forward. If you don’t have good habits, everything becomes a constant struggle as you fight against yourself.
The Stoics knew this. How do you think Marcus Aurelius ruled over the largest empire on earth? How did Epictetus endure and triumph over slavery? How did Seneca become the greatest writer of his era? How do you think Cato led troops in battle and to victory?
How do your habits stack up? How much closer to your goals would you be if you adopted the habits you’ve always wanted a year ago? Six months ago? Six days ago? Think about how much different your life would be.

From "I have to wake up" to "I get to wake up" that powerful way of looking at life
From 'alarm clock' to 'opportunity bell'...it's all in how you perceive it.
And no alarm...an opportunity bell...

We might need to walk around our neighborhood in some areas! But then that can be unsafe sometimes 😮
I can't believe a CZcamsr just told me to put my phone down. That is very wholesome.

"Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one." - Marcus Aurelius
As a reader of "7 Habits of Highly Virtuous Stoics," I've realized that true wisdom comes from taking action, not just debating theory. This book has given me the tools to cultivate daily habits that align with my values and help me become the best version of myself.

@@s.p642 I didn't understand that
Been depressed for too long, this video found me for a reason hope i get better.
You will friend
You WILL get better.
Buy a canoe and a puppy and find some water. Let nature help
Stop thinking, stop creating opinions in your head about actions and events in your life and live them.
One step at a time. Be it week, hour, minute or second. If you can't fly, run. If you can't run, walk. If you can't walk, crawl. But just keep moving. You got this!
I put my face into a piece of 3" steel yesterday when walking around a delivery truck. In the past, I would have gotten angry/furious and start to blame others. I actually laughed as I was bleeding all over the ground and realized that it was just another step in my day and thought "How can I manage this and make it a better day"? Thank you Ryan.
Imagine someone seeing that happen. They’d think you were a psycho, but no, you’re just stoic.😂
Men are in error when they lament the flight of time.Accusing it of being too swift. Not perceiving, that it is sufficient as it passes.
‐Leonardo Da Vinci
Love this!!!!
I don't think it's sufficient. God has put eternity in my heart.
@@dorismahoney1440 How do you know that?
@@petelash4654 Because I have the desire to live long enough to see my descendants down to the 1000000 generation. I hate death. I believe Christ has defeated death.

"Don't put things off." - that's the one i struggle with the most. But there is this wonderfull quote from Joe Abercrombie's book The blade itself that helps me with that, so i want to share it.
"Once you've got a task to do, it's better to do it than live with the fear of it."
This is the one we all struggle with, and it's good to see someone else also enjoys Abercrombie.
LOVE Abercrombie! its a great quote!
And try this beauty, 'When there's a job to be done..there's an element of fun.' - Mary Poppins
Great books! And I remember that quote inspiring me around that time, as well :)
Ryan Holiday and Joe Abercrombie, that's exactly what I needed to see this morning. Thank you for this comment ⚔️
Look at failures as a golden opportunity to learn something new.
Enjoy failures, don't fear them.
what i like about this sort of ancient wisdom, is that considering the life these guys had you know it's designed to manage even the actual shittiest life situations. Because personnally, whenever i hear a motivational speaker explain to me why i'm doing life wrong, part of me can't help but think negative stuff in the back of my head like "this guy is being a condescending know-it-all, some of us don't have his time and money or the mental health to do all the things he does, some people have extremely anxiety inducing responsabilities and no time to take care of themselves or their projects, I bet he isn't even that perfect off camera/outside of Instagram"
But when the advice come from an older guy, leader of ancient Roman armies, or a litteral slave, at a time period where war, famine, slavery, torture was absolutely common, it makes it much easier to pay attention and be convinced by the advice because no matter how shitty and difficult your life is, it's very unlikely to be harder than theirs.
I walk at least four miles per day, I do it for enjoyment, to see something other than work, and I do it to break the cycle. I also run three times a week on top of the walks, long distances where fitness allows. These things allow me to think, allow me to strategise, and to see through the problems I face.
My best decisions in work and business are made in those walking, running events. It's a funny one.
Not a funny one at all. Exercise clears the head and puts us in a positive frame of mind. It's working, keep doing it. 😉
.
Picking up running years ago is the greatest thing I have ever done for myself. 20-25 miles a week
Take responsibility for your actions; beware those who blame others for their failings.
This thing about stoicism is interesting because I was never taught this stuff no therapists or counselor taught me anything like this
I love the philosophy of "To live is to suffer", most.
Be true to your heart and soul.
Be the good in the world you want to see.
Love and be loved.
Stay strong I believe in you all.
Keep shinning bright and beautiful.
❤️🧩🙏
Starting living today ❤ and always pray
This needs to be part of high school expanded curriculum in philosophy. I don't think many of our youth get it - it's not always about me, me, me!
Bang on pal, I said this to my kids last night - we don’t teach them what to think but how to think and the stoics have a great way about that - build resilience and confidence in themselves to better prepare them for what will inevitably come they’re way.
@@colinross3755 So true Mr. Ross!
I think it is too dangerous as enabled free thinkers are hard to be manipulated by those in power. Stoicism could end consumerism and turbo capitalism.
I had nothing like this in HS. College would be the time me thinks.
Hope everyone here has a blessed day! Be productive , be powerful, & lead with acts of kindness !
Today I'm starting a business that I know will make an impact here, now, I want to keep myself going to achieve this goal.

These 8 we've all heard before, but by Jingo, the reminder of them over and over again is so crucial.
“We need to accept that we won’t always make the right decisions, that we’ll screw up royally sometimes - understanding that failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.”some of us we see failing as failure. Have a delightful day sharing some positivity to your side
The Sufi Rumi extolled the value of humility, years ago I read a translation where it he said
" Humility is a vehicle" and later understood "vehicle" is a way to move forward.
Love this
I literally do every single thing on this list every day and I have done for a few years, ever since I got a dog. Listen to this man, he gives good advice.
I had a 'don't put it off' moment when I recently moved. Packing boxes, cleaning out drawers. Tedious to say the least. I started early, but it just wore on me to where I was starting to slack on my schedule. Then one night I told myself - 'It all has to get done, so go ahead and do every minute task as it presents itself because it will add up to getting the grand task done.'
That's the way to do it. 'Chunk big tasks down into little ones'. With that philosophy you can achieve anything. Luck to you !
I’m in this exact situation for the next few weeks, I needed to hear this, thank you
Love yourself and things happen.
Keep it simple.
I love you all.
Smile your all beautiful souls.
🙏💖
I've been practicing just about all of these habits for some time...I think waking up early and winning the morning is perhaps the most valuable to me. It sets a great pace for my day without having to rush, rush, and RUSH! Great video, Ryan!
I love the Meditations line: Concentrate like a Roman… I just try and think about that in whatever I do because I get distracted easily…
The small things you do everyday make the biggest difference in your live.
Recently got engaged and when we got my wedding band my fiance said, "you should engrave memento mori on the inside", I'm very much looking forward to that.
Great idea ✨✨
I have been walking since I was 20 years old. I’m 73 now and still go for long walks with my dogs. My biggest fear is not being able to walk. When I feel bad I walk and my mind turns a 180 degrees. I get the best ideas and solutions.
Ryan, please tell me where you came from! All of a sudden everytime I put on CZcams there you are! I love it, I'm learning so much!. You have inspired me to live a better life with subjects I never considered! Thank you, dear Ryan, thank you. Keep up the good work, plus I've bought more books. Love your fireplace!!
I read for an hour before watching this video! I read first then check out CZcams.
2. Meditating on mortality is something I need to start doing often to maximise my productivity...
I don't think you know how busy I am but I take your point.
This was impressive. I am so stressed out and ready to give up, but this video hit home. This life is crazy and I just have to push thru the bullshit
Win the morning to win the day ❤
Keep growing folks.
I literally paused when "Stop putting stuff off" came up, thinking I will watch that later when I can focus on it.. and I realized, what the heck? Thanks
I've watched like 10 videos from Ryan with all the same points, still enjoy them
watching this video again, knowing it will give me the same advice it did last time, and that i still need to hear it again
How could someone give this video a thumbs down? Oh well. Out of my control. Thanks for sharing!
Champions don't complain. They are too busy getting better.
Thank you for bringing me on track.
Gonna Focus Like A Roman !
I am with you Cian. I love the Sunday hit of stoic reminders, they set me up for the week ahead.
I like the statement you have time to read you don't make time to read, and also do not put things off , love this🤩
Thank you very much Ryan for providing your subscribers with such useful content for free. Every time I look at your videos, I feel transported back to the Stoa.
✨ I love “Tiny Habits” book! It has some amazing recommendations on making new habits stick ✨
Freestyle Rap Therapy Let’s Gooooo!
I really like how you set up your bookshelves. So avant garde. And practical!
My life was pretty untouched until my late 40’s…and then wham! I went through some tough stuff. I have listened to so many utube life growth gurus… I go to Alanon…if only I had found stoicism then.. Life doesn’t happen to you.. it happens for you! Amor Fati! So glad to be learning from such great content.. Thank you!
Thank you for making these. I have your boxed set and have been using the journal through the pandemic. They’ve been a big help for keeping me sane in insane times.
I’m glad to see stoicism is back, and it is not at all what my high school teachers said it was.
Thank you!
Thanks so much for your videos, they make me feel a lot better about myself and they are turning me into a better man, father, son and friend
This was a gem! I also like how you speak off the cuff so eloquently - I'm sure you prepare - but it doesn't seem scripted or like you are reading - I really appreciate that!
Thank you Ryan!
wandering cycling is good too ☺
Thank you ❤
MA is blessed.
Thankyou for the great content and podcast so good. 💯
I love this guy! He brought me to the philophies of the stoics! What a mind they had!
Thank you Ryan.
Thank you 🙏🏾
I like it man I got my routine I meditate for about two hours a day and go out in the woods get up early go to work sometimes😂
Thank you for your Advice sir
Great video. I love how you record the videos when you are on your walks.
This was a really inspiriational video. I really want to put these habits into practice now. I just do it now
Dudes a walking meditation book, love it
Thank You
Fantastic video. So glad I stumbled upon.
All worthwhile ideas to embrace-- if one is healthy physically. Which I am not. Hard to find the joy in everyday chronic pain.
This was one of the best things I’ve seen on CZcams--or elsewhere!!! Very helpful
The bit where you talked about wasting my time watching youtube videos. I find it more practical today to spend time on CZcams than reading a thick book. I used to read a lot but as I grew older I quit reading because I´m afraid of wasting time and money on books that are not the best books.
love this.
Thank you.
Thank you
Done book 2 of Meditations, working my way through it taking notes, highlighting important pieces and trying to start changing the habits. Going to be hard, but have to move forward to grow.
So powerful stuff, I've become obsessed with the stoics and this channel.. I grew up with addictions and not a very present father figure.. I'm in my 30s and almost 10 years off everything and some of these lessons make me tear up from joy. No one teached me simple life skills
Congratulations on your 10 years! You rock!
All good info. Thanks for the video.
Excellent video! Its amazing that this knowledge has existed for years but i just didn't know about it! Thanks😊❤
Striking gold!
thank you!!!!!
This is so great - especially the part re: having humility. Thank you.
Subtle lmao
I like the walking one, I will do this starting now, as well as the others that are not implemented, currently.
I am so happy I found your channel. My dog gives me structure because I walk her every morning. This is always a great time. These are all such great ideas except- for the prepare for worse. That’s my opinion. Thanks for sharing your routine. I am grateful for your channel. ❤
LOVE IT
Excellent video! Thank you.👍, 🙏.
Thank you this really helps me
so effn true!!!
Love it! 😁
