    ABOUT THE VIDEO
    _
In this video, I talk about how to think clearly.
The better you get at thinking, the better you get at solving problems. And good thinking begins with clarity.
And if you want to think clearly and improve your ability to solve your own problems, organize your thoughts. Reduce their ambiguity and make them clear by turning them into simple if-then statements. Clear logic leads to clear thoughts. Clear thoughts lead to clear and intentional action. Clear and intentional action leads to clear feedback. Clear feedback leads to an improved understanding of the world. And a clearer understanding of the world leads to a better ability to solve problems.

I was looking for a comment that mentioned programming. I have just started a computing science minor and I have found that I have become a much clearer thinker and problem solver after only two courses. It’s not necessary for my degree- I’m majoring in Media and Technology studies (in the Arts) with a minor in Economics, but I had a feeling there was much to gain, in a wider scope, by adding Computing Science. It’s been terrific- the effect it’s had on my mind! Thank you for your comment! 👏🏻

Most of our control stops at "intentional action," the reason for this is because most outcomes (feedback) are still not within our control. Our "understanding of the world" could also be subjective but if it promotes pragmatic and healthy psychological wellbeing. . .so be it!

Im very grateful for my father. Althoughout my life, he has told me of mind-over-matter. If you want to be happy, then simply be happy, if you want to be angry, sad, confused, or disappointed, then you will be. You are in control of how you react to your surroundings. You cant always control your surroundings, but you can control how you act and react, and influence the world around you. This is one of the hundreds of lessons hes taught me in just the last 18 years. Im not religious, but i hope there is a heaven simply so he can go there when he passes, he deserves it and so much more. I love you dad, ill be better than you, for you ❤️

I guess the hardest part of the process of thinking is in the feedback, how to use it to improve the logical chain that you had to predict the feedback especially when predictions doesn't match reality which is usually the case, I think being able to divide a logical chain into the most elementary blocks that form it is just so hard and it's such a powerful ability, because if you master it's way easier to find out what was wrong with your logical chain.

Oyyyy, don't get me started with programming! There's a reason why debugging is the hardest part. Figuring if three conditions are true is one thing, but finding where the error is among HUNDREDS of conditions and THOUSANDS of lines of code is something else.
Also "dividing a logical chain into the most elementary blocks" is VERY much what object-oriented programming is made for!

This is going to help me a lot! I like to think deeply and solve problems from many angles. But the process is almost always unorganized. That is because I do not have confidence in my mini conclusions. Boiling it down from an if then statements gives me that confidence since the if statement serves as a reason of what ever follows.
I sometimes conclude things intuitively so I am not exactly sure why they're right. This causes me to look for the reasons behind instead of moving forward, causing me to be slow.
It's weird. There are times I think so fast probably because of coffee and a boost of confidence but there are times where I can't even trust myself. I guess I am just excessively careful with my thoughts that it's no longer benefitting me.
I find it difficult to read a simple paragraph without trying to dissect and understand it far deeper than intended. It makes me feel dumb.

@Kyra True. But thinking needs to be compensated with good brain health. Things had almost always been bad for me mentally since I faced terrible childhood and terrible upbringing in general. I suspect this has limited my intelligence because when I started to take care of my brain health religiously, I seem to learn things a lot quicker, listen better, focus better, and get in the zone easier. All this time, I have never tapped into the full capacity of my intelligence because of stress. All I needed was focus and things never had been so clear and positive

Just try to look at how many lies you can spot in a day (commercials, other people's I-statements, promises, political speeches, etc.) We are drowning in lies. Our thinking patterns are messed up, faulty, dysfunctional. Question the seeming truth behind everything.

True, experimentation, documentation, and reflection. I noticed that after graduating (BS in Psych) my problem solving and thinking started to decline because I wasn’t doing all the questioning, experimentation, documentation, and reflection that I did constantly during undergrad. A great tool I’ve found for this is playing chess. It forces you to think ahead and your opponent’s moves prompt “if-then” thinking to try and predict what their intentions are for the move. Along with this, you can plan out and premeditate on your moves.

I love your videos and also a big fan of Marcus Aurelius (read his meditations), and because of that I just wanted to give constructive feedback for what it's worth. The message was good - clear thoughts and refining the causal relations of your cognitive models of the world makes for objectively better thinking. But after that it just felt a bit like you were repeating yourself or couldn't quite articulate what you wanted to say through the examples (which you're usually so good at)! Maybe it's just me though or perhaps I didn't understand some of the messages. Love the channel though and still far better than most of the stuff out there!

I like to think of it as "any thought or train of thoughts that doesn't result in actionable steps we can take is more often rumination and a waste of time" :)) But this highlights the importance of actionally taking those actionable steps that are created from our thinking in order to get feedback and check the quality and truthfulness of our thoughts and improving our worldview which is not something I had really thought about!

I watch so many videos like this and the information sounds great but actually having full control over your thoughts is easier said than done. Still I do try but I am an over-thinker and the only way to calm my mind is to work out religiously, make CZcams videos or create art. When I am not doing this my mind is on constant overdrive.

To enhance logical thinking and achieve your goals effectively, swift progression from intentional action to feedback is paramount. Take riding a bike, for instance; although understanding the mechanics through reading and contemplation is essential, the true learning experience comes from getting on the bike, making mistakes, and gaining valuable feedback. Embrace the iterative process of learning, as it reinforces your logical prowess and propels you towards success. Don’t get stuck in paralysis by analysis.

Thought is any random construct of the mind, letters, words, numbers, imagined pictures, imagined sounds, etc. Thinking is an accumulation of thoughts that result in an understanding of concept. Understanding of concept relies on the abstract and logical manipulation of thoughts in a way that is reasonable to the thinker. Learning is the compilation of concepts by thinking about them. So we go in a loop, thinking then learning then thinking then... This is why thinking is important. This is my perspective, take what you will from it.
