DRESSER GLOW UP: Trying to make LAMINATE FURNITURE look & feel HIGH END

- In this video, I'm taking a piece that had already been refinished and giving it a sophisticated glow up.
This one I know will be a bit controversial.
I decided to turn this one into an experiment, and see if I could squeak a high end finish using pro products on the subpar wood drawer faces, and give a similar (but different, lol) paint finish on the laminate outer shell. It turned out "okay".. I wasn't over the moon with it personally, but it was still a fun project.
When I posted the before photo of this piece on my community feed, many viewers stated they liked it the way it was. But my literal job is taking things that are damaged, discarded, or just not selling, and giving them new looks so that, once again, they are loved items. This piece was on FB marketplace for quite some time. Not because it was bad, but I think it was just very specific... the colour scheme would only appeal to certain folks. Because so many of you loved the green, I decided to use a similar colour but applied in a different way, and topped it with a dark wax to mimic (in a way) the sort of "grunge" feel that it had previously.

The new pulls, definitely. The “mustache” pulls draw too much attention from the other details of the dresser. The plainer, straight pulls let your eye move to the brass rods, the corner pilasters and the spiral pulls and the rich looking wood. Much better balance of details.
And nacho coordinates nicely with all the hardware!

The original pulls are both whimsical and unique. But your use of the modern ones on the larger drawers draws attention to the former - which is exactly what they deserve. Wonderful makeover.

The original piece looked like a child’s attempt to paint a piece of furniture. The idea was good but the execution poor. Your interpretation is awesome. Very classy, high end look. I liked both of the pulls, each created a unique look. Another marvelous save!
I normally wouldn't care for this particular piece of furniture but you turned it into a fantastic piece I love. I think the new pulls make it look much more expensive and "modern" without the coldness I normally associate with modern furniture. Of all the CZcams refinishers I've watched, you show a far greater level of professionalism in your refinishing. Your pieces come out as good, if not better, then when they were new. Congratulations!

That dresser looks absolutely beautiful! The modern pulls are perfect. Having all wavy pulls is sensory overload! The modern pulls allows the eye to totally appreciate the wavy ones! You do wonderful things with furniture.

Love what you did with this dresser. Looks high end for sure. Personally I did not like what it looked like before. It went from shabby to chic.
I agree! The old finish was hideous and I can't imagine why anyone would like it. As to the pulls, I'm not a big fan of either. I think they both would work better on other pieces. Replacing them with pulls with softer lines would work better.

I literally cheered when you painted the inlays gold! It sets off the wood grain so beautifully. I didn’t think I was a blingy kind of girl, but the repaint of the hardware, inlays, and the feet is just so beautiful.
I’m not normally a fan of painting wood, but the areas you painted green really didn’t have much wood grain to show off. I absolutely LOVE the color you got from all of those stains and laquers. It’s such a rich, dark color, and it really sets off the gold hardware and inlays.
I like the original pulls, primarily because they go better with the pulls on the smaller drawers. The straighter ones just LOOK like replacements. That having been said, offering whoever purchases this piece the options so they can make it fit their decor is really smart.

The modern pulls are so much better. This is an amazing transformation. Definitely took the idea of the first dresser, and elevated it. Gave the high end look, but also gave the green definition as well. Such a beautiful piece.

This looks SO much better than it did before you started. The green faux finish was just kind of messy before, it just didn't look professionally done. I think I like the more modern pulls, but I almost think that an even longer pull is called for here, with bits that extend past where the pulls attach to the drawer front, to more closely relate to the vertical spiral pulls on the smaller drawers. The curvy pulls aren't bad, but it's just a bit too much curve on top of curve. The straight horizontal pull makes the drawer front more of the star, whereas the curvy pulls compete for attention more.
Also, Nacho is a precious little angel and ultimately I will agree with whatever he likes best.
I think I'm a little late on this but I think your choice of new pulls is excellent! The old ones aren't bad but I think your new choice fits the overall look and feel better. Awesome job!!

Absolutely love that you were able to take a piece of furniture with not -so-top-grade wood and turn it into a piece that looks so very expensive! I agree with you that the straight pulls were the way to go. They make the spirals pop. I'm not a fan of grass green but I do love a dark forest green. For my personal taste I would gone with a deeper darker green and that's the only thing I would have changed. The dark wax and 24 karat gold pulls are simple perfection.

I never imagined that funky downtown dresser could grow up into such an elegant lady. I love her new handles. Her old mismatched set seemed to be competing for attention. The new ones you picked, which are beautiful in their own right, achieve harmony with the snakey verticals. Personally I'd have kept those for another project and replaced them with knobs probably- but this is why you're beloved on youtube and I'm just tinkering around in my garage watched only by my dog. Softening her overall brassiness made a huge impact as well. You dressed her up in the perfect green coat to flatter her mahogany complexion, now presto, she's moving to uptown. Somebody call the Vatican because you're the furniture saint! This episode's transformation is right up there with other major miracles you've worked on this channel. At this reveal, my heart skipped a beat. Heck at my age- best coronary ever! I also want to give a round of applause to whoever did the first redo. Good on the both of you for seeing the awesome potential where most of the rest of us would have missed it or just not bothered to make it real.

Another stunning transformation! I really like the straight, modern pulls. The wavy ones made the entire piece look too busy. I am so impressed with your attention to detail, like the way you cleaned and painted the inserts on the drawers. Your channel is by far my favourite for quality work and they way you explain things.

The wavy pulls! They add a whimsical feel to the piece. In my mind the piece is then a little less 'serious'. But no matter which pulls end up staying on the piece, your work always - as in this case - updates and elevates. Love your work.

Stunning! I’m 71 and no longer refinish pieces any longer but started refinishing my first old furniture pieces when I was 18. So satisfying when it’s finished. Straight pulls for sure! They compliment the straight lines of the brass inserts. Great job!

It looks amazing and I love the nod to the previous green. I think the modern pulls look better and contrast with the cool curly Q pulls in a way that really looks elevated. Save the wavy pulls for another piece down the road. I love how you make the pieces reach their full potential.

You definitely achieved your goal with this one, Angie! It looks so much more elegant and high-end than it was before. I would never have thought this was a less expensive piece of furniture. The green color you used, combined with the stain and toner color of the drawers really elevate and bring out the beauty of this piece. And of course the hardware looks fabulous too. I honestly love both versions, but if I had to choose, I think I like the wavy ones just a bit more.
I didn’t think I’d like the modern handles but once it was all together, I like them. They make the side twisted handles stand out. The refinish is much more refined.

I love the comparison of the old pulls vs the new! Thank you for that, I am not able to imagine how things will look in my head very well, and it made it obvious how only changing the pulls can change the character of the entire piece. I like the more modern pulls. The wavy are a little much combines with the pulls on the smaller drawers. Love the way you got the different kinds of wood to resemble each other. Very nice!!

Your renovation is so much better, more pleasing to the eye. The black finish is more muted and less "in your face" making it more attractive. The modern drawer pulls are a nice balace to the spiral pulls. Very nice final product.

I didn't care for the original at all.
You definitely gave that a lot more class and obviously very neat work. I also preferred your choice of draw handles. A lot of flippers don't give any detail to the inside of the drawers on that drives me nuts...

I much prefer your version on this piece and agree with other commenters that the mix of straight and wavy handles is much more aesthetically pleasing than the all wavy version. I also love the mix of paint and stain you use on most of your pieces. Your work is top notch and very inspiring. 😊
