A High-End German CZ-75 Carbine! The Norlite USK

  • ‪@JamesReeves‬ is at IWA 2024 visiting Norlite to see their newest carbine made specifically for the CZ-75. Famous for their USK-G which uses a Glock frame, the new Norlite USK for the CZ-75 is essentially a standalone 9mm carbine that requires only the CZ-75 frame to function, utilizing the CZ-75's fire control group and pistol grip. This unique feature allows it to be classified as a CZ-75 part or accessory rather than a firearm in its own right, which is particularly valuable in regions with strict gun ownership laws, as it enables owners to have both a pistol and a carbine while using only one pistol license.

      Mech Tech Systems here in the US has made something similar for Glock, XD/XDm and 1911 handguns for at least 20 years. The Norlite is much nicer, though, as the Mech Tech uppers are basic tube style straight blowback, and don't have many of the features that the Norlite does.
      Having the Norlite imported would be nice, but I do agree that something like this would be right in Palmetto State Armory's wheelhouse.

      @@terryfaugno9242Yeah, but you forgot to mention that this one cost 3 times more than the Mech Tech Systems. Besides, I like it more MT for developing hot loads due to the simple, yet very effective recoil system. I had the 1911 one in .460 Rowland and I pass long the 15% above the security loads and only stops when the brand-new brass starts ejects cracked at the first shot (I never use one-shots or worse to develop hot loads). I'm talking 2004 aprox, when the .460 Roland was still a wildcat so, I had to do my loads almost blindly, and the MT CCU was awesome for that. Seeing this one, I don't think that could take the same amount of punish that I put in the MT CCU. And I already mention that you can get 3 MT CCU's for the price of this one. And I don't event talk about the easiness and quickness of assembly. Sorry for my English is not my main language.

      The "carbine" kits are probably gimmicky in the US but they fill quite a specific role outside of it. Most countries don't have a silly definition of a rifle vs handgun and it's often based on caliber and actual intent. Then many countries also limit how many firearms you can have as each firearm would often need to be licenses separately so these kits are quite important.
      In the US these are not only mostly a gimmick but one that easily could lead to someone running afoul of the NFA as well as possibly creating problems down the line and poisoning the supply chain as a rifle cannot be converted legally back into a pistol.

As it stands, hard to justify when we (at least most places) don’t have a limit on the number of firearms we can own or need a license for each one, so you might as well just buy a full gun instead.

And I’d have to imagine there are tuning/upgrade options for other platforms too if you’re worried about it. And while familiarity with the grip and trigger is beneficial, it’s also something that can be easily gained with another setup by just using it.
      Like I said this thing is cool. And I don’t doubt there are some here who would spring for it over other options (or just to have it in the collection). But it doesn’t make as much sense here as it does in places that have the restrictions this was designed to address when you can buy a complete PCC for much less here.
      ETA - while the price is 1500 euro (roughly $1650 converted) over there, *if* it were imported into the US, the price would very likely be even higher to offset the import fees and such. There are A LOT of other options other there for ~$2000 or less.

      The system is well received especially in the German market (maybe other European countries, too) where this only counts as an accessory to an existing hand gun. It's not a gun by itself (by German law), so it doesn't fill a slot on your gun permit. And it still counts as a hand gun, not a long gun, so you can use 20-round magazines with no further ado (although admittedly there are stand-alone pccs like the Ruger PC-9 charger that also count as hand guns here)

    I have one of those for my Glock 17, awesome, lots of fun a 100% child of our gun laws. Pistols are much harder regulated but can have 20 round mags, rifle including SBRs are less regulated but are only allowed 10 rounds. This gives you a rifle like option with 20 rounds and you can buy it for your gun without needing a permit etc.

    • @jeffersondaviszombie2734
      @jeffersondaviszombie2734 Před 4 měsíci

      I have a question though: I thought that everywhere in the EU, all firearm essential components are treated as the complete firearm itself. The essential components being: frames and receivers of all kinds (upper and lower), barrels, bolt carriers and bolts. This matches with the European rules of marking not just one component, but all the essential components of newly manufactured guns. For example, EU-made pistols have to have at least their manufacturer name and serial on the frame, slide and barrel. All this being said, wouldn't this count as an upper receiver and a barrel, both having to be serialized and, thus, treated as essential components, thus needing to follow the same registration and permitting procedure as a complete gun?
      Or am I living in a particularly North Korean corner of the EU? Because what I described above is what is the case where I live, so I wouldn't be able to just buy an USK without going to the Police first.

      @jeffersondaviszombie2734 Před 4 měsíci +4

      @@M.M.83-U In Romania, standard chassis like the Roni are free to buy because they're simply an accessory, but a barrel kit needs to be permitted by the Police pre-sale and then registered on the gun permit. The only difference from an actual gun is that it doesn't count as a separate gun. But that makes little difference because for sporting and hunting purposes there is no gun limit, so the gun count doesn't really matter for most people. The only constraint is that if you have more than 15 guns, you need a security system connected to the Gendarmerie. But there are exceedingly few people going over that limit, so it's more of a theoretical limit for all intents and purposes.

    • @JoshuaCalvert80
      @JoshuaCalvert80 Před 4 měsíci +7

      It counts as a conversion kit here in Germany, that means you can go into any gun store and just buy it if you own a matching firearm. Sure, it has to be serialised and to be registered within 2 weeks, but it doesn't count as a firearm and doesn't impact your gun limit.
      Further more, a bit oversimplified, firearms longer than 60cm count as rifles and are restricted to 10 round mags, conversion kit are excluded, so you can still use 20 round mags an have a rifle length package.

      @@LaughingMan44Another advantage is that you can share ammunition between pistol and rifle (this way they can also share the same magazines and the more used a cartridge is, in theory the cheaper it becomes). Some time ago I had already thought of a way for this to be viable and in my opinion the diameter of the projectile had to be around 7mm, as it can have a range of projectile weights that can work well for rifle ammunition (with spitzer bullet shape, which would lead to a bullet with better aerodynamics and less projectile mass to reach higher speeds) and for pistols (with a hollow point bullet that has more volume and consequently greater mass, which is ideal for pistol ammunition) and for me the simplest solution would be neck-up 5.7x28 mm for a diameter of approximately 7mm (up to 7.35 mm, which would make it a straight wall cartridge)

      is no anykind of limitation how many firearms you can have.

      It's been developed for the German market, and German shooters usually want really high grade match-quality because they can only buy so many guns (not many by US standards). As far as I understand it, all the barrel options for this system are Lothar Walther match barrels. These are definitely the best barrels in Germany, probably all of Europe.

    Really awesome chassis, but for that price you can buy a new rifle or CZ Skorpion Evo. In Europe, the number of pistols tend to be limited, but less so for rifles, and barrels are controlled parts, so not sure how advantageous it is--I guess for Austrian and German markets, it ll get some traction.

    • @maximilianmustermann5763
      @maximilianmustermann5763 Před 4 měsíci

      It counts as a conversion kit in Germany, so it is legally an accessory to an existing gun, not a gun by itself. It is a regulated item and needs to be registered, but it doesn't count as a gun so you'll still have i.e. five hand guns, while if you were to buy a seperate pcc like the Ruger PC9 charger, you'd now have six hand guns on your permit and the government office might start bugging you about documentation for matches shot with each of your guns and stuff like that. It's always good to have one less "gun" on your permit, even if it's just so you can buy another one.
