Damn, I want to finish this game. I started playing it a long time ago and haven't finished it yet :(

Thats why I like how short it is. As soon as I started getting bored of it, it was already over. And thats including exploring and taking my time since theres no way to waste time other than admiring the environment

Annapurna did not develope Stray, they are a publisher. The development team BlueTwelve Studio. Annapurna interactive signed stray to handle distribution rights, marketing, and helped fund the project. they do have a pretty keen eye for signing indie hits, but they do not develop the titles they publish. Might want to edit that bit.
Loved this game, perfect little story for the steamdeck.

Thanks for pointing that out! I always thought Annapurna was a developer considering how similar their games feel. I’ll have to look into it further to see if their games have anything else in common.
Stray on a portable device is the best way to play

Totally agree, they definitely have a “brand” or feeling that’s common between all their partner studios. Devolver digital is the same, keeping to just a couple genres or titles with the same feeling.

Stray was an indie cash grab. The gameplay is nonexistent, the puzzles are brain dead and can only perform most actions when prompted. But nobody cares because cat cute so the game is automatically fun. A gimmick and nothing more.

The Cat protagonist makes it pretty clear that Stray is focused on Cat people and “casual” players who just wanna have fun regardless of quality. And that demographic is exactly what most indie and AA games end up reaching.
I wasnt too hyped for Stray almost becoming GOTY, but that just means theres a large number of people who probably arent satisfied with AAA games these days. Its kind of like how Fortnite used a specific demographic (12 yr olds) to build its popularity.
I want to see Stray and other Indie games as something to learn from in terms of fun gimmicks and a premise that makes you curious. Thats what big games were capable of back in the old days, but they cant accomplish anymore
