He was in attendance at the event and i forget who was supposed to perform with Bruce but whoever it was couldn't so they asked Axl last minute and he agreed...which is rare as he wasn't touring and even while touring needs hours of preparation.

To anyone whose being critical of this, here's the story behind it:
This duet was originally scheduled / planned for Rod Stewart and Elton John. Rod Stewart didn't make the event because of the earthquake in Los Angeles shortly before the event. As Bob Weir / John Popper and others performed on stage the production personnel approached Bruce with the lyrics to "Come Together". Bruce politely refused, repeatedly. The producers then approached Axl Rose who was at the next table over. Axl agreed and then pulled up a chair next to Bruce. After a minute or two of conversation, Axl put the lyrics on the table and Bruce and Axl hovered over the paper for a few minutes. As Bob Weir / John Popper et al. left the stage, Bruce and Axl simply got up, walked onto the stage and rocked. No rehearsal. No practice. Amazing to witness.

These are great talents. Appetite for Destruction is a monster that is one of the best selling albums of all time. i wasn't a GNR fan until 2000.. I had bought the "LIVE Era '87-'93" album. Axl's genius and a perfectionism makes it impossible to keep a band together But the music of GNR is unmatched..Bruce Springsteen is also a genius. A working man's Genius that built an East Coast fan base then Not wanting to "Solo" built his band "family" adding a Horn sound he wanted from listening to Van Morrison.The E Street Band is home and family for Bruce.. Axl only has Izzy Stradlin from his early days in Indiana..Axl's success is all his own.
I’m pretty sure that Steven Adler being a heroin addict, that was not able to record songs anymore. Duff and Slash being drunk for 3 years straight having to be sent to the hospital several times because of the excess and Izzy not liking fame and being kinda negative and deciding To leave the band.., does not help keeping a band together. But media and some people made Axl the bad guy, and he kinda took it like a man, he played the part it suits him. But unfair To blame only him. Either way, love them all. Last true Rock N Roll band. They set the bar so high that we are Still today waiting for a band to match their talent and specially their attittude. Rock N Roll at his peak

Love this performance. Axl has so much chemistry. The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies have many great performances. It's pretty cool.
This was around the time Axl started losing his voice, their last show was in november 1993, his voice was still ggod, but it had changed a lot, if you're a real GNR fan, you know Axl's voice started to change in 91, then in 92 it changed again, then in 93 it changed a fucking lot, then it seems like in 94 he started to lose that power and raspiness he had in his voice. Still he's one of the greatest ever to me

I'm surprised that Springsteen shared a stage with Axl _and_ dueted on "Come Together". Axl wrote the lyrics to "One In A Million", which tell part of his life's tale. I like "One In A Million". It never offended me.
The biggest problem with One in a Million is that people thought Axl WAS the narrator when in fact he was a false narrator. The son of a bitch was not about HIM. It was about some else. People forget that you take a lot of poetic license when you pen a song or a poem or a novel. He was writing about a fictitious character with a bunch of awul biases. It wasn't Axl. It was a song to demonstrate how stupid people can be when they are narrow-minded.
One in a million was supposed to reflect the views of a typical, small town Midwest person who didn’t have a clue about the real world and were left with those views. Axl wrote the song based on experiences he had seen these people engage in when he grew up there, it doesn’t actually reflect his own views.
