  • The 1st Chennai Pen Show was a revelation for Sulekha. For starters, Sulekha had never attended a major pen show outside Kolkata and was naturally apprehensive, perhaps even a bit nervous. Wouldn’t you be nervous, if you were voyaging to a distant land, without knowing how the people would react to you? Would the local people of Chennai even know the Sulekha name let alone support an octogenarian brand trying to make a comeback from oblivion with their patronage?
Well, the apprehensions were put to rest within the first hour of the show’s opening day. The small table at the corner of the hall that Sulekha had taken was mobbed from the word go. And surprise of surprises, Sulekha sold out most of the inks she was carrying by the start of the second day of the three-day Show. To put the record straight, not only did the Chennai old-timers know about Sulekha, but were keen to lap it up again. Some were reconnecting with their youth. Some were basking in nostalgia. Some were keen to be a part of the revival of the spirit of Swadeshi, spinning the ink that had fought the mighty Raj! And the new converts? Some were awed by the sheer legacy. Some were floored by the range of colours spread out before them. Almost all loving the fact that Sulekha was offering them inks that they could make their own, at price points that they could relate to. And yes, the Jamini Roy series of inks that were shown were a jaw-dropper with aficionados scampering to possess them.
It was an emotional moment for Prof K C Janardhan, the Maestro, “it is such a pleasure to see young people crowding to buy ink. All the work that I have done over the decades to put the fountain pen back in their hands and to encourage them to write seems to be bearing fruit. Thank you Sulekha for joining forces.”
Kaushik Maitra, the Managing Director of Sulekha was naturally ecstatic, “I would never have imagined that Chennai has such a huge crowd of fountain pen and ink lovers, had I not seen this with my own eyes. The average person here at the Show is so well informed, so knowledgeable about all things pen, ink, and the pleasure of writing… You know, I am getting goose pimples the way they are fondly remembering the Sulekha name.”
Pratap Kumar, the third-generation owner of the fabled Gem & Co., makers of the iconic Gama pens, was equally happy at the turn of events “Contrary to popular perceptions, Sulekha is a well-known and much-loved name here in Chennai. We already stock their inks and the Gama blue that they have made as a tribute is hugely popular with the pen-loving crowd in these parts of the country.”
Subramaniam of ASA pens, a Kolkata boy, who settled in Chennai was also emotional - “We had literally grown up with Sulekha in our pens. I will not be able to express my happiness as I see Sulekha going on the overdrive here and the youngsters flocking back to buy pens and inks. The Gods of fountain pens are indeed great.”
There was one thing that everybody at the show agreed upon - the organisers of the Chennai Pen Show, read Aditya Bhanshali and his team, had done a wonderful job and that it was by far, one that deserved the accolades!

Kindly consider bringing out some sample kits of 10-15ml with different shades of ink so customers can test preferences before ordering a full bottle.

Everything is perfect but just the fact that they do not have Amazon Pay wallets as a payment option. In their website.
