  • Sulekha organised the first of its kind Exhibition of paintings done with Sulekha inks as the medium. As many as fifteen members of the Artist’s Collective Freewings displayed seventy unique works of art created by the members in what was a unique show at the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture (RMIC), Golpark, Kolkata. The Exhibition was formally inaugurated by Swami Suparnananda ji Maharaj, Secretary RMIC, in the presence of Swami Abhayadananda ji Maharaj, Kaushik Maitra, Managing Director of Sulekha and other dignitaries.
Apart from artists, members of the media, ink lovers, art connoisseurs, and the art students of RMIC, the exhibition was attended by many senior artists and gallery owners like Dr Subimalendu Bikas Sinha, Ex Principal of the Indian Art College; Hareet Basu; Abesh Bivore Mitra; Ankita Roy; Sourav Mondal; and many others.
That Sulekha was helping expand the horizons by encouraging artists to use inks as a medium of expressing their creativity was something that was highly lauded by the eminent exponents of the art form. “We are delighted to see the way ink is being used, not only for writing, but also for painting, sketching, and drawing,” said Kaushik Maitra, the man behind the initiative. “Sulekha is proud to be associated with the artists of Freewings who have taken ink art to an altogether new orbit. I am sure that this is the beginning and soon, the movement with gather momentum.”
Handwriting, Lettering, and Calligraphy workshops were also held as a part of the exhibition in which Tapash Kumar Dey took the participants through the motions talking about common anomalies and helping rectify them. The members of Freewings too held live painting sessions where they exhibited their skills to the audience live which was especially beneficial to the many students who visited the two-day event.
An added attraction was the distribution of Profile inks - shellac-based drawing inks - to the artists. Profile too is a legacy entity that is trying to make a comeback with its products which had been discontinued. “We are extremely upbeat having witnessed the phoenix done by Sulekha,” said Abhijit Ghosh, “and are planning to launch our drawing inks shortly as the emerging demand, we feel, justifies our presence in the market.”
Watch this space. The fireworks will begin soon.

Background music is very soothing. Can’t understand much of the script as I don’t know Bengali. But I think I got the essence of the video.
