- If you haven't seen the movie, GO WATCH IT! There are spoilers in this video, obviously. It's an amazing film!
The devs put a lot of effort into making sure Iron Giant fit into the "Pheonix Wright" style of moveset(non-fighting fighter). I was really impressed, so I gave the movie a rewatch and stitched together some of the obvious references.
I do not own any of the footage from the movie, or any of the assets from Multiversus, WB or their trailers. All of the gameplay clips are recorded by me. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
If I recall, the Iron Giant's creator had a pretty unique pitch for the movie: "what if a gun had a soul, and didn't want to be a gun?" Feels like this game nailed that same theme here.

Make sense because his attacks are accidental and don’t seem to be him actually fighting, or fighting against his will, just like a living gun that shoots and kills people, but doesn’t want to shoot and kill people
Yeah, the origins of the big dude is pretty sad, it all originated from one lf the creator's family members dying from a gun shot
They managed to put Iron Giant in a fighting game without making him have to fight. That's actually really brilliant. Plus I'm just glad that he finally got to meet Superman.

3:42 there’s a super short transition animation that happens when Giant switches back to normal. He looks at his hands and his eyes get confused/ sad just like he does when Hogarth talks him out of “gun mode” in the movie. That’s a really sweet detail.

As someone who watched the iron giant movie as a kid. I would never have dreamed in my wildest dreams, that I could play as the iron giant while kicking the ever-living shite out of toons from Warner bro’s. every move is nostalgic, I can’t believe there’s this many references to my boy.

This is possibly the most adorable character in any fighting game. They actually perfectly made his attacks work while being faithful to the character, being accidents that happen while he either plays, eats, etc. And the only time he does mean to harm the enemy is during the special when he is in attack mode.
Edit: I wanna point out that, yes his attacks do work and they're good. But with his size and the slight slow start most of his moves have, he's not that great in singles.
And said attack mode is even called “protect friends”. He’s not doing it out of malice, but in order to protect
In the end you can tell he is out of control because when his head comes back he even don't now where he are

Fun Fact: At some point in the early 2000s, Cartoon Network had ran an entire marathon of the Iron Giant. Just the movie on straight repeat for several days. It was absolute hell.

They also used the crouch at 4:52 as his crouch in the game when you push down. It's so fluidly animated too. I never imagined they could make this moveset this good.
It makes sense for the iron giant to act like a Phoenix Wright of multiverse since the giant himself dislikes violence and is basically fighting without actually fighting
Kind of like Phoenix does in mvc 3 since he is a lawyer not a fighter
I've seen more people consider Velma the Phoenix Wright of Multiversus. Considering she's got the evidence mechanic.

would be something that made perfect sense to me, until now.
Aesthetic and gameplay wise, Iron Giant is definitely like ROB, even down to having the whole "weapon with feelings" arc.
The more passive fighting style definitely brings to mind Villager though.
I read a really old interview (that I can't seem to find anywhere) from the devs of mvc3 that talks about how they took inspiration from the old Marvel vs Street Fighter game where "Norimaro" a character played by famous japanese comedian Noritake Kinashi appears as a playable character. However, I can't find it anywhere and I fear that I'm suffering from some version of the Mandela effect. Either way, very cool to see the inspiration for the "non-fighter fighter" go all the way back.

Wow this is incredible, I've never seen the movie but it perfectly works. It's so weird but refreshing to see the design direction of this game, as how Velma's attacks are onomatopeias, Tom and Jerry's attacks are them just being themselves, and now the Iron Giant who borrows the idea that some attacks are just random actions that happen to hit people.
Do yourself a favor and watch the movie as soon as you can. I have a lump in my throat just from seeing the clips in this video again. It is an utterly fantastic movie.

Seriously tho, you should see it. Iron Giant and Atlantis the Lost Empire are two of my all time favorite and most impactful animated movies of all time.
I'm eager to see a video like this for all of the characters. You can really tell that there's love and attention in every move.

I might be a one hit wonder, I really only made this video because I'm a huge Iron Giant fan. Plus, it's not really my content anyway. Just glad people liked it. :)
I pinned this because I got DMd this a few times. Don't really have the drive to make a bunch of these, maybe if another character I'm a super fan of comes out I'll give it a shot. but I would also really like to see if other people can come up with similar content with some of the 1 to 1 reference material for their favorite characters!

@@HogartHughes I think it bombed at the box office, I guess the kids and adults at the time weren't ready for it yet, but the kids now adults and their kids loved it.
That end scene to iron giant is still probably one of favourite scenes ever. My heart as 5/6 year old would break and then soar 💪🏼

I'm planning to main Tom and Jerry when I eventually get this game, because Tom and Jerry was my favorite cartoon growing up. Also gonna main Bugs cause I loved Looney Toons too.

It's a great movie
The animation was ahead of its time, and even today it still holds its unparalleled charm.
It's really not, other than the animation, the plot is very simple. It's basically ET but with a giant robot. Idk why so many people attach to it when movies like lio and stich exist and basically do it 10x better.

Iron giant is such a good movie that seeing these clips again made me smile. Despite being a fighting game he still feels very harmless in his mannerisms.

I love how even in his attack mode he actually uses stunners instead of vaporizer rays too they even give the prompt protect friends making him a shield not a gun he protects he doesn’t attack and even if you think it isn’t fitting at the end he turns back to normal and seems confused like in the movie
I like that unlike all star brawl this one actually gives the characters unique moves and not rescinned smash bros moves
Tom & Jerry literally have their own Nikita sure it’s one example but it’s still there.

All Star Brawl does have plenty of moves referencing character moments in the cartoons. Theres plenty of videos like this for nick character comparisons. It just feels more like Smash since it was designed to play more like Smash compared to multiversus.
Yea all star brawl was complete garbage I deleted it the same week I downloaded it
To be fair, a lot of the character's moves are somewhat inspired by Smash ones. Like Shaggy's fair is just captain falcon's fair to the T. Finn's up B is Link's up B. Jake's neutral B is Kirby's, but with no suck. Jake's down B is very similar to Kirby's down B. But I do feel that it does bring a lot of uniqueness with the class/role system and it really doesn't feel like a straight smash clone.
This game has so much care put into it I love it. It canonized Ultra Instinct Shaggy, Tom and Jerry are just always fighting and the other fighters get caught in the crossfire, the Iron Giant doesn't intentionally harm anyone (unless in his weapon form) and instead just accidentally hurts them by being big and clumsy.

He just looks very huggable. The "Gentle Giant" characters are one of the best types of characters in my opinion.

Easily the best and most faithful representation of a character in this game (so far), for the most part he's not really trying to hurt the other fighters, instead he just fools around with junk (reminds me how Isabelle is just doing her daily tasks in Smash) and playing the superhero, even if he has an attack mode were he uses his weapons, you can see how he reacts surprised when it deactivates as if he regrets using them.
Also they committed to his size, he may not be as big as in the movie but it doesn't matter because he's still huge, I think he's the biggest character in a platform fighter.
there's actually another reference to Iron Giant that not many people notice, when selecting a character, you can actually pick the Iron Giant! it's a very hard to see reference to him, but trust me, he's there!

they have the licensing rights, but they don't own the property, as far as I can see they own all the characters in their game.

Agh my childhood, I watched this movie so much. I always loved hoggarth's and the Giant's relationship.
I loved this film so much growing up. Even though I was born in ‘01, the older cartoons always stuck with me and this was one of them. So glad they gave it recognition in Multiversus and wish it came back.
If you give shaggy some scooby snacks he's literly down for everything
this game is such a breath of fresh air compared to smash. I love the movement, the passives, the buffs and debuffs, and especially how each character plays so differently

This adaption of Iron Giant feels way more respectful to the brand then Ready Player One.
Though RPO was the reason I said, "Okay now I need to watch Iron Giant." As soon as I watched IG and thought more on it, RPO did IG so wrong.

@@Glickstick In the Season 1 Battle Pass, Iron Giant has an "Tease" emote/taunt, which could possibly be a reference of the scene where Hogarth telling him if he could do the tease when shows it to him. But suddenly his jaw is loose, due to missing a small screw gear for his jaw.

I've never played this game before, but this portrayal of my childhood hero makes me want to.
I think that The Iron Giant was one of the best animated movies to come out of my era (90's). It was such a profound movie even watching it as a kid I still remember the many life lessons it taught me. Truly one of the most underrated, and forgotten movies of our lives.
The unlockable Iron Giant Ring Out Effect is also a reference to the cannon ball scene

I just got Iron giant today and seeing as how The Iron Giant has been one of my favorite movies since my childhood,the references and care they put into his character make me extremely happy.
Playing as one of my childhood's favorite character and movie is like... Never in my dream would I ever be able to play Iron Giant even if it was miniaturized. Plus Iron Giant was like a long, long time ago. Didn't think it would make a comeback.

You can just tell a lot of love was put into this character. I remember freaking out when I saw him in ReadyPlayer1 and now he’s basically the star of Multiversus, hats off to the devs I’m so glad kids today are being introduced to one of my favorite childhood movies.
