I lived next door to a picker, who sold his estate sale finds. At least he had a high privacy fence and no one had to look at his treasures 24/7. The way the woman interacted with the reporter, there is no way she’s actively selling any of that stuff. It looks like she was lucky to get dress, feed herself and not drive her truck into something.
A neighbor around the corner from me has this same problem in her basement and in her two-car garage. It's gotten so bad she has to park her car in the driveway. The HOA and the township can't do anything unless there's a rodent infestation or hazardous waste accumulation. Then they can bring the law down on her and force her to clean the place up.
Good idea but we called them for someone in much worse physical condition and bad hoarding and they did NOTHING after she said she didn't want help....closed the case ....never told us or anything!!!
Retired ff, and thought the same thing about the smell! The job involves an entire collection of aromas that are each distinct (distinked?) and can permeate uniforms, skin, hair, sinuses for an entire 24 hour shift, providing ample time to make you want to puke. Houses like this have a particular, unmistakeable smell, and seeing one brings the memory of that stench to life. It's thick, greasy, stagnant, and seems to cover every item in the house like invisible mud. If it had a color it would be a blend of very old scabs, oily brown/gray hair, gnarly toenails, and the wierd slime that rotten lettuce turns into. Did you know that humans can not forget a smell? They may not know where they smelled it before, but they will know they've smelled it before. I really wish this was not true.
Brother, As a former Zoning Inspector for a twp here in Ohio with currently about 1300 homes. I can back you up 100% on your experiences. I personally worked on 4 of these such cases that where labeled "Extreme" And they all had very similar problems. Three of the four of them where older females that flew the 🏳️🌈 flag. All liberal Democrat voters (See the multiple stickers on the multiple dead cars PARKED IN THE YARD. All three had multiple small animals (Dogs,Cats, Rabbits, Chickens) Most just running wild and breeding uncomfortably. And if you did the quick math, Take what you see outside the home. Multiple that by 12, And then multiple that number by 8 (The hight of the ceilings) that will get you pretty close to the amount of GARBAGE, TRASH, and JUNK that was inside of the home. We had one lady appox. 75 yr old that had a 2400 sq ft home that she literally couldn't get into any longer, And was sleeping in a U-Haul Rental Van that she was paying the monthly rate on to sleep in it in here DRIVEWAY. When Law Enforcement officers went to do a Welfare Check on her, She drew a firearm on them, And was subsequently shot. She survived the shooting. And thankfully was given a mental evaluation and was found to have a mental disorder. So the charges where dropped when she was committed to a State Mental Facility. However, No kids, No family that wanted to deal with the deplorable home that was condemned days after the shooting. We found multiple dead dogs and cats in a freezer in the basement (Yes still frozen) with Names, Birth and Death dates written on a card attached to each bag. The 4th was a older male in his late 70's that was convinced that he would be in the TV show "American Pickers" if he could gather and purchase enough old junk at auctions and from junk in ppls garbage. He also turned violent and had to be removed via Law Enforcement officers when he threatened zoning and Health Department officials with a firearm. The fact is, These individuals need to be placed in Institutions that we NO LONGER HAVE. Instead, Big Pharma just says "Put them on this "Head Med" And they'll be fine to live in a civilized society. WRONG....
Hoarders dont resell anything thats what they always say to explain it away ! It looks like she can hardly walk but she can load peoples garbage into her truck !!
As a former Zoning Inspector, I can tell you THEY DO... However here is what happens. We send the homeowner multiple letters (All certified mail) Or have a Civil Law Enforcement Officers deliver them to them. Then there's a waiting period that is usually 90 days to get the homeowner to address the issue (which often gets ignored) Then we call the County Prosecutor and get them to send at least 3 letters. Add in another 90-120 days. Then if things still are being ignored. The Prosecutor can file charges against them (and they often do). That usually makes the offenders show up to court. Then the crying and whinning starts to the Judge about "I need help to clean it up, And I don't have the $$$ to hire help or to get trash containers" So then the judge will typically give them from 3-6 months to get it cleaned up. And they tell them "You can not add any more to this,Do you understand??" And then NOTHING IS DONE in that amount of time, Except adding MORE JUNK TO THE EYE SOAR. So then the Prosecutor has to start issuing more letters and file more charges and get the homeowner back infront of the Judge AGAIN. Thats usually a good year or more later. And here comes the EXCUSES AGAING... This goes on, and on, and on... As a former Zoning Inspector I had 4 problem propertys in my community that I said "I'll take the job on and get them cleaned up, And then when I'm done, I'll give the job to the next guy who wants the extra $$$. It took me almost 5 yrs to deal with these 4 individuals (all at the same time) And the Twp had already had them to court at least once if not twice. These Judge's are going soft of HARDCORE CRIME today, What do you think they're doing with this nonsense??? I can tell you, Just kicking the can down the road and NOT holding these individuals responsible. Because I can also tell you about one we currently have that said "F-You, Its my yard ill fill it with as much garbage and trash and junk that I want. And im not cleaning anything up" We've had him in court over 15 times since 2018. And the daily fine is $750.00 and we have liens filed against all of his properties. He just gives us the finger as we continue to document the growing mountain of junk. And the courts say there's not much else we can do about it. He's almost 70 now, And his health is poor. Sooner or later we will own the property do to the lien amounts when he dies. But until then, Mount Crapmore Continues to grow...
This person Definitely has a problem , This happened in my neighborhood outside of Cleveland . The Owner was fined then Jailed and somehow lost ownership of the property .They the Township really tried to work with them ,Then the County got involved thank God .

It's good for tv, but it doesn't provide after care or follow-up with the hoarders. After the show is taped, they go back to doing the same things all over again.
A lady around the corner from here (50s?) has a garage and basement full of junk. The death of her parents is probably what triggered it. She's quiet and reclusive. I'd bet she's never been with a guy in her life.
My grandmother says the same thing. She’s 91. “It’s so much stuff, and it needs cleaned up.” Yet, when we go to throw stuff away “no no no, I might need that for (activity).” We try! Her house is a hoarding mess. Not like this one, but the inside is jammed with stuff, and we cleaned it out once after grandpap died!
This happened next door to me. The owner moved out in 2015 and left everything a mess. Then the squatters/thieves/dealers took over; one was her son and because of that, law enforcement couldn’t do anything about trespassing. Plus the owner had to report him for trespassing and she wouldn’t. They stole from neighbors and vandalized our places. In 2018, the city condemned the property. After years of back and forth and the dealing and stealing continuing, we got a new mayor and city manager, and they took action against all condemned properties, bad owners, and squatters. The city gave the owner notice that the property needed to be cleaned up and the home brought to code or face demolition. The owner went to court to fight it. I appeared, too, with documentation and police reports, fought and won. The city demolished the home and cleared the land of all the junk and placed a lien against the property. My life and my neighbors’ lives are now peaceful.

It's mental health disorder, people who horde don't mean to do it. Unfortunately, what often causes this is a traumatic loss. They find themselves unable to part with things and have an excuse for why they 'need' it, like to sell etc but hoarding like this is due to mental illness.

A psychologist is also involved & so helpful when the person in need doesn't listen to family or neighbors. If rats have been seen there that is a health issue & the city is responsible. They've also had city officials on the show for that reason & it made a big difference. It was mandatory that they clean up an unsafe environment so it makes no sense this city does not.

Her neighbor only made it out with her baby and cat (couldn’t even grab her purse/keys or anything else) bc it spread SO fast. The fire dept evacuated a 4 block radius bc the hoarder also had helium, oxygen and propane tanks in her hoard that she didn’t know if they were full and there was an enormous risk of explosion. Google Del Ray Alexandria Virginia duplex fire and you will see articles, photos, etc on what happened here. The hoarder won’t voluntarily accept help. You have to force her.
It should have never been allowed to get that bad. Cities will fine you if your lawn is too tall and if fines pile up enough, seize your home, but then allow this to go on?

Hoarders don't respond well to "help". It is a mental disorder. If you offered to remove everything and clean the house, unless she's treated for her illness, she'll fill it right back up again.
I can’t believe the local government doesn’t have laws in place to threaten to kick her out. Hoarders show is always saying, “They’re going to kick you out unless progress is made.” Why can’t that happen here?
Nah I'm glad my neighborhood lets us do whatever we want. Hoas are just a bunch of Karen's and people with too much time on their hands on power trips. Sure this is extreme but I bet this somehow would of happened in a hoa neighborhood
This isn't a problem an HOA solves, this is a problem that an HOA would push off on someone else and pretend didn't exist. "Not in OUR nice neighborhood!" There needs to be social support systems for people struggling in situations like this. The poor woman needs help but America has too much individualism baked in to provide the support needed in so many cases.
How did she get all that stuff on the property by herself? It looks like she can barely walk. The neighbors should call the Hoarders television show to see if she will accept their help.
Oh lord. Somebody just needs to list her stuff and sell it for cheap. She said she needs help. Once she sees stuff turned into cash she’ll start moving more
If you encourage her by selling her stuff she'll never stop hoarding and will use that sale as a justification for more hoarding. If code enforcement starts issuing fines and they go unpaid, eventually a lien will be placed on her property and she'll lose the house that way. It looks like the city has run out of humane solutions to this problem. If the owner refused to clean up and refuses all offers of help the city may have no other choice but to start levying fines and placing liens. In the panning shots of her property in the news clip I saw plenty of out and out garbage that NOBODY would pay for. The coddling has to stop for the safety of the neighborhood.
We had a similar issue with a neighbor years ago. Our city will warn them twice, then they dispatch a junk truck, dispose of everything that's not to code, and send the homeowner the bill. Code is simple: If it's obviously broken, unusable, not indicating any type of organization, and visible from the interior of a neighbor's home, the city WILL 100% act.
I have an elderly friend who is a hoarder. His excuse is that someone might need whatever it is that he hoards. He even has old car ashtrays , car mats from salvaged cars and any thing else that others throw away. He never throws plastic shopping bags away. He is renting an apartment for senior citizens and is always afraid to let someone into his home, because of the mess.
After a yard sale at my mother's house whatever didn't go, I put it in the driveway with a big "FREE" sign, just about everything was gone in 3 days. I think I had to take 2 items to the dump.
I'll take this over many HOA's. This was fixed by people actually offering real help instead of just standing around complaining and looking for laws and rules. They had a follow-up a couple days later and a local junk removal company showed up with people and equipment, showing the lady they were actually offering real help. She gave them permission and they quickly had it cleaned up. Solvable problems, much preferred over the nightmare that HOA's can be. This was quickly fixed. Good luck quickly fixing a HOA where you are dealing with people with much more serious mental issues, believing they are kings and queens ruling over tiny kingdoms in the suburbs.

That stuff would be cleaned out in hood 😂
Adult Protective Services should be called. She needs an evaluation and possibly a guardianship.
At the end they say aps was called. They can't do anything unless she wants the help.

As a firefighter that's ran calls in hoarder homes, I can smell this video, and hear the excuses from the owner. They are all the same.
What kind of town doesn't have an ordinance against this? That's crazy!

Her house is a hoarding mess. Not like this one, but the inside is jammed with stuff, and we cleaned it out once after grandpap died!
A change like this comes from loss and trying to fill the void and keep the sad thoughts away. She needs grief counseling.
They are diplomatic but firm, also often enlisting the involvement of family members (who are quite upset) or a long time friend. I'm sure TLC pays for it to be hauled away, but it needs to be done.
Yes something tramatic happen to her to cause this behavior. She would have to agree to getting help to let the junk go.
This is so true & sad… it has manifested In the physical.
Open her heart to receive help Lord 🙏🏼
I have literally one junk drawer with papers & random stuff. Every few months I empty it out
I couldn’t imagine living this way. This is unbelievable.
At our apartment complex we have a few hoarders who try and manipulate the male residents into dumpster diving for them. These are women who are almost invalid living up to their chins in trash! We had bed bugs, rodents and cockroaches invade our apts. through our walls. Apt. Management has to go through a lengthy process with hoarders to solve the problems of collecting filth.
An involuntary commitment is an application for emergency evaluation and treatment for persons who are a danger to themselves or others due to a mental illness. A person applying for a Pennsylvania 302 because they are concerned about another is referred to as a petitioner.
This is going viral nationally so the entire NATION just heard & watched Janice ask for help on live national television.
This is a psychological problem and even when people ask for help, they have trouble letting go. If the authorities REFUSE to deal with the problem, it will be unresolved until the woman dies.
She doesn't mean it. She wants help in rearranging her stuff, that's all!
@@eattherich9215 you're wrong. It's already been cleaned up.
They said when ppl help she won’t comply with them. She does this a lot
She said she needs help! That's asking for help! So someone or several need to help her!
Seriously, like wtf??
Hoarders always know they need help, until help arrives, then the battle begins. Praying for this beautiful neighborhood that this will be resolved and soon.
@@user-qk8uq4hh3k true
There's no help in Pittsburgh sweetie
She’s lying for the cameras. 🤦🏽♀️
None of this would happen if there was an *H.O.A* . This lady can ask for help , she doesn't want it .
Even if you try and sold your home , No one will buy a home , where the neighborhood is a mess.
When you are looking for a HOME, always drive by the home and neighborhood and check out , the neighbors
to see if their homes are cleaned up ( yard , driveway, house it's self , etccc. *Be your own Investigator* !
Where i live, if you even have tall weeds and you refuse to clean them up,and there are complaints, and notices go out, without action, the city will come in, clean it up, and charge it to you.
This is UNACCEPTABLE! Should never get this far! Ever! The city and many others have failed this woman and the neighbors!
Lol ok
Absolutely. What are they paying taxes for.
@@critterscute3642 To live in their own home and mind their business.
@@Everett-xe3egMy property taxes also go to village employees and services, such as our code enforcement guy and garbage pickup and fire/police departments and schools.
@@critterscute3642 the police were notified, the mayor is literally right there. they cant force this woman out of her home.
They can do what they did in LA - call it an eminent danger and clean it up
Yes.
Where I live a few years ago a woman who had hoarded her house (a duplex), yard, and several cars (including a school
bus) had an overloaded electrical outlet and the entire thing caught on fire. I will never forget the smell and the smoke. This is a HUGE public safety risk; not only fire but also vermin. Google Del Ray Alexandria Virginia duplex fire and you will see articles, photos, etc on what happened here. The hoarder won’t voluntarily accept help. You have to force her.
Hey I see one of my chairs 😅🤣. We have the same situation in Burien Washington. Horders you just gotta love them.
“She says she sells the stuff.” That’s what they all say. An episode of Hoarders IRL.
The whole situation made me also think of American Pickers.
Yes, I'm sure she's selling mattresses that sit out in the rain. 🤢🤮
The news lady is coming in hard. "It also spills to the back" 😂😂😂
Are there not city ordinances that prohibit this? The city should obtain a court order.
My mom was a hoarder too, not this bad outside her home but inside the house was pathetic...I feel for the neighbors.
the hell with selling it, donate it if there is anything good in there.
Fire company should condemn the house as inside must be stacked to the ceilings.
Feel badly for the neighbors.
It should have never been allowed to get that bad. Cities will fine you if your lawn is too tall and if fines pile up enough, seize your home, but then allow this to go on?
I do not know why this cannot be ruled to fire hazard. All the garages are blocked and the entrance door to the front is blocked. If the woman has a heart attack or some other problem, the ambulance people cannot get in.
she is old she needs help
She has refused all offers of help according to the neighbors and mayor.
@@momtrips6783she shouldn’t have a say. There are agencies that handle this type of situation. She’s incapable of making decisions for herself. Her mental health is not in check atm.
WTF
The only way to help her, is for her to move into an assisted living facility. But she will refuse that too.
They will fight you tooth and nail. She doesn’t want help even though she is asking for it.
That’s trash. She needs friends, she’s lonely. Elderly don’t like to treated as “needy”, befriend her THEN help her.🙏🏽
You sound like a good hearted soul. God Bless you and yours. Stay safe.
Amen. I agree with you both. Blessings.
Amen
Hoarders don't respond well to "help". It is a mental disorder. If you offered to remove everything and clean the house, unless she's treated for her illness, she'll fill it right back up again.
absolutely! she needs help.
Force a home sale and send her to an old folks home. She is not well
That’s illegal
I can’t believe the local government doesn’t have laws in place to threaten to kick her out. Hoarders show is always saying, “They’re going to kick you out unless progress is made.” Why can’t that happen here?
Show this to all the people who complain about HOAs.
I'd still rather live next to this than have to deal with an HOA.
Id STILL complain about HOA's infringing on MY property rights.
"Not in OUR nice neighborhood!"
There needs to be social support systems for people struggling in situations like this. The poor woman needs help but America has too much individualism baked in to provide the support needed in so many cases.
How did she get all that stuff on the property by herself? It looks like she can barely walk. The neighbors should call the Hoarders television show to see if she will accept their help.
Enabling family members who dont want to deal with or be responsible for the situation
Enablers or she pays people to do it
It’s her property you can always move if you don’t like it
Please THINK. Who are you selling the house TO??
such a beautiful neighborhood...what an eye sore for sure!!
hopefully, you guys get some peace soon
She will never sell any of it and she doesn’t want help because she is a hoarder that’s what they do they say they will do something but don’t
And the price or money for the items would never be good enough for her either!
The coddling has to stop for the safety of the neighborhood.
but it's all outside in the elements how is that not junk now.
No. Even if she sold everything, she would only junk it up again. That's the nature of the illness. Just sad.
@@momtrips6783 absolutely, selling that junk will only bring more delulu
You shouldn't be able to export your "damage" to other people.
Typical hoarder from the show hoarders. It’s a mental thing. Inside you will find a pile a poo and lots of areas rotten
I can not believe she has a usable toilet or the bath tub isn’t clogged with human waste.
Her poo? 😳😫
They need to place her in a home. Permanently.
According to the DSM-5 this is a form of OCD, a hoarding disorder
Who couldn’t use an extra washer or broken TV? This is gold!! 😂😂
Or an old soggy mattress that's been sitting out in the rain.
She was going to sell them for parts. Happens all the time on eBay and Craigslist.
@@FungusMossGnosis hoarders never actually sell stuff. They just accumulate stuff and say they are going to sell it.
The rolls of carpet deserve an honorable mention as well 👏👏
Most of that looks like good stuff. I wouldnt toss it either
She has plenty of room on the ROOF!
After a yard sale at my mother's house whatever didn't go, I put it in the driveway with a big "FREE" sign, just about everything was gone in 3 days. I think I had to take 2 items to the dump.
Yes, but your stuff didn't sit out exposed to the elements for years. 99% of this hoard is trash.
Yeah, and it's people like the lady in this video who would take the things and hoard them in their home or yard.
The first time in history the neighbors are begging for a HOA. LOL she plans on reselling a busted TV that is left outside in the weather.
People love to hate on HOA communities! You'll never see this in one.
