- A hoarding situation in Plum is finally being addressed. Neighbors said this is a good first step to be able to have these possessions be taken away, but there is a long-term goal and that is getting their neighbor the help they need. KDKA-TV's Chris Hoffman reports.
This is great but the woman must have therapy otherwise the house will be hoarded again within a year.
6 months
I give her six months. Warmer weather and she will start dragging things back home.
ditto. a very small percentage keep their places clean after cleaning up after a hoard
The disease is not curable. She needs a guardian or to be in an assisted facility where she can be supervised and helped.
It will be harder to scavenge stuff now that she is older. Unfortunately my mother makes regular trips to the local junk yard and comes back with a useless item on occasion.
We’ve never heard either what the INSIDE of her house is like?? I wonder if it’s the same and neighbors can tackle that too. If she lets them. But great start!
For what it’s worth, I AM SO PROUD OF YOU ALL, for helping this woman!
so am I
nope, junk will be back, it is a mental issue, my sister had that problem, but how much should we control others
@@philipbrazis8732 I agree with you. I don’t have an easy answer. I guess the reality is we just have to take it one day at a time.
But why is there a roof blue?
I had no idea they sold blue roofs
Thier
The owner of that company is a real man. Protecting ppl is a mans number one job.
Doing that work for free, but the owner must be well off to afford that house.
@@DavidZ4-gg3dm Naw she is a boomer, got money handed to them for nothing. Boomers could buy houses working a min wage job.
????? Are you nuts! It has nothing to do with sex! Stop stereotyping! That is obviously NOT the number one job of a man! Something is wrong with you.
2 years and the city can't do anything? This man and his company have it cleaned up In a day. Shows the incompetence.
@@Brownshabsfan The junk was on private land, so the authorities would've said it was outside their remit, authority & duty.
I’m so proud of the junk removal company and her neighbors showing up with a great attitude. It’s rare that we see our news media in a positive light these days, and I’m so glad they did a fair and objective reporting on this case to help the home owner see that she is surrounded by support. I pray her community keeps a positive attitude towards her going forward, I can only imagine the unexpected relief she’s experiencing after struggling for so long.
Exactly! She may have needed help, but free???
@SeeYouEnTee666 And just what would those words be? You are so compassionate. That is one word I would NOT describe you with.
You *know* the inside of the house is just as bad as the outside! I hope the clean-up continues there as well!
I said the same thing- that garage is probably full too. They have a lot of work to do.
We also have a neighbor who is a hoarder and every year they take 2 trucks full of stuff ... it is an annual intervention for us. We live in a small village in Austria. He is the nicest old man and we got used to him, we think he became like that after he lost his wife and only daughter in a car crash 30-35 years ago.
You are right. There is a correlation with losses and drastic life changes like deaths of loved ones, divorces, and job losses.
How does he get so much stuff each year?
That's how it starts, with the tragic loss of a loved one.
This is an excellent step forward. It's so great to see neighbors being so understanding and the homeowner courageous enough to accept the help when offered. Good news for a change.
People need to understand this is an illness. Be kind! Like to see people help her. Beautiful
Just like alcoholism and drug addiction.Diseases all,but sadly society in general shames the victims more often thannot. Its wonderful to see the community gather and help someone in need.
Everyone is kind at first but there's only so much abuse a person can take before they start to get mad.
This woman is trying too overcome her hoarder sickness. Great job everyone. Now I hope neighbors go and befriend her so she knows what normalcy is like.
naaahhh, she was out getting more junk and made them wait an hour for her to get back with another load
She's lived there 30 years so it's not like they don't know her. And she won't accept their help.
She needs counseling, very sad.
@@jazziez6467 was she really ? oh man.
@@casandradickinson8518 this is one of those clear cut situations where the state needs the power to step in. Issues like this need not drag on for a decade, we can all agree that there's some mental health issues at play here.
Unless she gets psychiatric help, this is going to happen again and again. I hope she gets the help she needs to get well. Looks like she has awesome people giving her a chance, good on you people out there.
Therapy needs to happen.
Yep. Otherwise they just cleared space for more stuff.
Ongoing support for sure.
I mean, they did say this was just the beginning, but go on, captain obvious.
@@rmalus10297 Oh good grief. Therapy does need to happen.
yes, all the neighbors that constantly cried need therapy
I'm so happy for the neighbors. They've been more than patient.
When you see a hoarding situation. Don't ignore it. It is a mental illness. In most situations the people can't physically clean it up. However it is fundamental to do at a pace that works for her.
I bow to junk haulers who donated their time and service.
This is no easy job and should not be taken on by someone who truly has no clue what hoarding is.
Again thank you to the neighbors and people who showed up and gave a hand up to this person in need. Make your day amazing from Phoenix Arizona. Moving Forward Foreclosure Cleanouts LLC
Not easy to be alone. Good on the community for helping her out.
There is nothing difficult or hard about being alone - however, I would think it is difficult to be alone *and also be fighting mental illness.*
I did this several years ago. We had a old vietnam vet who was a retired cop that was receiving help from a local church. He was a BIG time hoarder. It was a very humbling experience to help someone like that
Anyone who watches the show "Hoarders" knows exactly what's going to happen next.
From the looks of her in the previous piece, she may not be physically able to ‘shop’/acquire more junk. I don’t think on-line shopping is her thing. So maybe this intervention will stick.
I’m proud of the woman for allowing this intervention to take place.my buddy’s mother was like this, and it destroyed two houses, and a rental.
Some people won’t accept help, because they can’t see the problem.
This neighbors were very gracious and considerate. I think they handled it better than I could’ve.
Prayers for the woman.
Its beautiful that caring people came together to help someone who desperately needs it 🙏 May GOD bless each of you
Good job Ms. Jan!!!! Keep up the great work!
Well done, kudos to the people and the junk removal company for helping her. She seems like a sincere sweet women who just needed some help. It looks like a beautiful home.
Wow, kiddos to this company and this group of men!!! Thanks to them they are helping this elderly women.
What if they have women working for them and you just did not see them? You were doing great with your comment until you said "and this group of men." This may surprise you, but women can lift items and place them in trucks too. This may also surprise you, there are some women who are stronger than men.
It's amazing how a resident in an HOA can be fined or threatened with eviction if their door is painted the wrong colour, but that municipal by-law enforcement, the police, and the mayor could do nothing about this garbage dump and more importantly, about the clearly ill woman who lives there.
Isn’t that the truth.
This is actually a pretty prime example of some of the GOOD reasons for living in an HOA community. This would have been handled within 2 years maximum and permanently solved.
Obviously no HOA here. We lived behind someone whose yard would get more and more cluttered every year. Then spring inspection by the HOA and like magic, no more junkyard behind our house. Very relieved to have an HOA with a neighbor like that.
So glad she is getting the help she needs and glad the neighbors are cool about it and recognize the real issue!
That one neighbor is literally hiding inside a shrub
God bless GI Haul for their help. Glad to hear the Department on Aging is getting involved. From other interviews, the home owner sounded like she could definitely use some help. Hope for the best for all involved.
Kind hearted neighbors ❤
This is what community is about, the coming together for the good.
The hauling business will be blessed by new business from this .
This a one of the rare
" good ending " stories we all need to see more of,rather than all the daily bad news on a daily basis.
Great Job Everyone !!! 👏
This is not a good ending. This is an old woman living alone in pitiful conditions. They only cleaned up the small part the neighbors can see, the stuff that was spilling outside of the house. Inside the house must be horrific. She will begin to take stuff out into her yard again unless they can get her removed or get a guardian to take care of her.
God bless the company owner and staff. Thankfully this woman agreed to it. I hope and pray things get better and she enjoys her house more.
You can do this Jan! Good job! Your so blessed to have these good neighbors❤
What a wonderful company to step up like that. Great business!
I'm very impressed with the level of compassion shown by this person's neighbors.
I am so glad to see the neighbors are not dealing with this like bullies but with compassion and humanity. It seems like this lady has no family to help. Well done community!
I can’t believe they don’t have city ordinances that they could have evoked, especially since it’s causing a rat problem. The neighbors have rights to not have pests problems because of a neighbor living in filth. I’m glad she is allowing the cleanup to happen.
They do. She was sent notices but she couldn't do it alone. She probably now has a lien on her house so what she has been fined and if the city paid those men to haul it away will come out of the sale of the house if she sells it or passes.
@@dw3403The junk removal company did it for free.
I was going to say I hope they have professional care lined up and it appears they do. It takes a village and I’m glad she has one. Hoarding is rooted in very profound trauma
Nice to see that some neighbors actually helped her and that a junk disposal company removed the items from her property. Fines, citations, and negative press have no affect on mental illness.
I mean in this instance the press worked and the street was lucky enough to have this wonderful company volunteer to help out. Not to mention everyone in the state is now aware of some blind spots in the laws that need to be addressed to stop future situations like this from occurring.
Great neighbour’s showing compassion rather than judging…Kudos to the removal company for stepping up. You will be blessed beyond measure…
Finally the community came together for this lady. That's great.
Really glad to see everyone coming together on this.
Good, that is what a real community does, helps and not bash. Hope she gets help!
Sometimes the help is not wanted - it just happened to work out in this instance. I think you would have a different tune if YOU lived across the street from it. We are quick to issue out advice about what others should or should not do because we are NOT in that situation. If you say you would not be bothered or upset by it if you lived around it - you would be lying.
What a wonderful community! A business that steps up to help, Understanding neighbors that don't end up feuding and hating each other. Mess or not, Seems like a great place to live. Now even better!
Great job Jan!!!! This is an awesome first step!!!!!!
Sometimes it really does take a village. Good for these folks for their patience and hopefully follow through on continuing to help this lady. It’s a win/win for everyone!
Whoever is helping her carry those things outside her house should be held accountable too.
Great way to advertise your company in a good way and help someone in need. Everyone wins here. Even the neighbors. I’m sure there are therapists who can do the same for her if the lady is open to it because indeed she is dealing with trauma, that’s how all these hoarding situations happen. So have compassion on her please.
I'm proud of this woman.
I just watched the initial video. I am so happy to see this follow up video. Outstanding first move to help her. A mental issue is no joke.
Absolutely amazing this is awesome thanks to everyone who is taking the time to help . You are all beautiful souls . Im gonna keep praying for you all .bless you all .
Such a beautiful home and neighborhood. I'm glad they handled her a little more gently. She's a senior, things happen.
whats the inside of the house look like ?
Likely she has a narrow path to navigate through the rooms she uses, the bedrooms, basement if applicable, dining room etc are filled to bursting.
Probably bad. Hopefully she gets help still or it will spill outside again. It's like they are so emotionally wrecked they use the garbage as a buffer to hide away in.They don't see it as garbage though.
I know, I am scared to see.
Great first step. I can only imagine what inside of the house looks like...
Thank you to everyone that helped!
This is a huge step in the right direction. Wonderful to see people coming together to help someone who clearly needs it. I hope she gets the mental health support she needs and wish her the best. 🙏🏽
Yes. EXCELLENT step forward. Thank you All for helping her out. 👍👍😁
So happy for her. This is beautiful. Such a beautiful thing for this company to step in and help💜 love is all we need💜
Thank you G haul!!! You did more than those sorry city officials could ever do!!!!
I am glad she is getting the help. Something must have happened in her life to start the hoarding problem two year ago. My neighbor started hoarding when her husband of 42 years died. She hid the problem because the possessions were all inside her house. It came to an end when she tripped on her things and fell down the stairs. She was not found for a couple days after that and had to be admitted to hospital. Many hoarders start when they lose a loved one.
Just cause you take away the junk doesnt mean it will get piled up again... The problem of the mental health needs to be address. Shes just going to bring back more if shes doesnt get help.
I have a hoarder in my family. 20 years ago, this would have not been the response. Mental illness was treated with jail time. Glad to know people have some compassion. It was not easy in the 90s for my family.
This is awesome. I JUST saw the other video. Im so glad to see she got help.
Just in time for garage sale season. Unfortunately, there will be piles starting again very soon. This is a serious illness, and very hard for a hoarder to change. Sad for her, frustrating for neighbors.
Glad to see help for them
Praise for GI Haul! 🎉🎇🎆
From experience with a hoarder relative - it will continue even after being cleaned up. Hoarding is a mental disorder, not a physical issue.
Amazing job! I knew it could be pulled off with a little willingness and determination. Good progress.
It’s not easy help these people with this problem. I am glad they are showing these report as a warning that it is a metal illness. I have my mother in law with this problem, but she refuse any kind of help. Her children did anyway put a dumpster in front of her house and did the job anyway.
It’s kinda beautiful to see the neighborhood come together to help her.
Praise the Lord.
This is a win-win situation for everyone involved….! Congrats 👏🏼👏🏼🥳
A talking bush. Whoa! Last time I heard of one it had 10 Commandments
The bush was 🔥 burning. The commandments came from a mountain. Maybe Sinai.
Looks like it’s one of the biggest and nicest homes in the neighborhood. I can only begin to imagine what it looks like on the inside though poor lady, poor neighbors.
I just saw this story about the neighbors complaining! So glad they’ve reached a resolution ☺️
Team work makes the dream work. This is a lovely story of good Pittsburgh folk 💛🖤💛
This is great, I hope she gets the mental help she needs as well 🙏❤️
Love to see people be understanding and good to one another! I don’t know of any family that has not been touched by some type of drug addiction, mental health, or just aging issue. We all should love each other.
GI Hauling. Tnankyou Sir. You went well and beyond on tbis job. To bear the expenses of this large cleanup, Kudos. I hope the neighborhood will remember yoiu when they need demo, or other services.
Proud of the entire community!!
Great job MSM, helping the public. Thank you 👍🏽👏🏽
She’s lucky she has such kind and gracious neighbors.
Prayer works. Thank you Jesus for helping this elder.🙏
True.
This very neighborly ❤️ great community. I hope they continue to help her out even after the clean up
Glad that she is getting the help in which she needs!
Lovely to see the neighbors being supportive ❤
So nice to see neighbors working together 😊
Hats off to the owner of that business for stepping up and doing all of this work pro bono, Good Karma to you sir
its rare that a hoarding situation ends in a positive manner, beautiful to see!
good job!
hopefully that women will get the help she needs, without ruining her financially & make her loose the house!
Sounds like people are being kind neighbors! Even tho they have been through hell!🙏❤️
I’m wondering what is she hoarding inside the home???
Owner of that company knows a good marketing opportunity when he sees it. Love the branded shirts and trucks this is GREAT publicity. I’m taking notes.
God Bless Her Community 🙏🏾♥️Pls Continue To Look In Her.
There is a rule something can down immediately if something is declared “an imminent danger to public safety “ the city didn’t use this tactic - if so they could have got that property declared and cleaned up in a day like they did in LA
Great news but what about the inside?
Glad to see it's beginning to be resolved. Good for her.
Look real close, she has the nicest & most expensive metal roof on her home. Metal hidden fastener seemed roofs are very expensive.. good job Jan when you made that exterior home improvement decision.
How is the grass still green under all of that stuff if its been there that long?
Right? There’s something off about this to me/there’s more to the story. House is extremely well kept if she’s been hoarding there for 30 yrs esp so much outside.
@@clairelyn4405 There's something off about a lot of things lately. Is it AI, or is it Memorex?
Nice to see people helping her. I have to wonder what the inside of the house looks like?
Now time to shower this troubled but good lady with support
If the homeowner is so old and feeble how did all the stuff end up at her house?
