Restaurant owner's long battle with homeless encampment ends with call to 911

  • When you pull into the Eastern Cathay restaurant on Northeast 82nd Avenue in Portland, it appears as if it’s not open. Graffiti covers the walls outside. And once you get inside, you’ll find a dining room closed off by a couple of tables. It's dark and empty.
The owners say the problem rests 50 feet out their back door and in their parking lot. Homeless tents stretch from one end of the lot to the other.
And now, business has taken a nosedive.

That sickening feeling you have seeing this. Do you recall the first year or two of the recession (2008-2012 ish)?
Do you remember when these corrupt banks foreclosed on 100,000s of our fellow Americans. Entire families got registered by these snakes.
Then the government had to bail them out not once, but twice.
The entire first bailout they decided to give one another huge bonuses.
Then the second time around, the Democrats had to force through guidelines that the money is to be used on helping American families and to help save their homes from these money grubbing weirdos.
But by the time this took effect, the banks had years to literally make entire families homeless.
Or what about the other corrupt rich that started the opioid epidemic.
Pharmaceutical companies like Perdue pharma ran unchecked for over a decade, spreading false information about their crazy addictive medications (like Oxycontin, hydro codone etc etc)
Why haven't they really been held to account?
I'm not saying every single homeless person today is a result of these highly corrupted people and practices. But I'd say a high percentage is remnants of that.
So when you see a rich person begging for more money, or a lesser punishment cause they are wealthy. This is the result. A bunch of poor souls that are still addicted from what dr.s and pharmaceutical companies did and pushed on patients .
Or somebody that lost everything because we allow wealthy pigs to get away with scamming everyone.
I'll tell you it makes me sick as well. Between that and the fact none of the people responsible were and probably never will be held accountable for these horrible actions that's affected millions of our fellow Americans.

They don't care about people on the street so why should people on the street care about your life your job or your business?

I have deep compassion for homeless people who respect other people's lives, but none for the drug addicted who do not care that they also hurt others.

This is like owning a home and someone pitches a tent in your front yard and no matter who you call no one can help you get rid of them. It’s so sad!!!!!

It seems the owner called many times to no avail. It's only when the local news starts making the law enforcement and city look like they're not doing their jobs that they do something. Maybe that's the answer. Use local news for situations like this to embarrass the city for their lack of help. $30,000 a year in taxes and no help? These people lasted far longer than I would have. I hope they can remain there successfully if that's what they want to do. Maybe they would do better with a food truck.

Nobody “voted” for this. These are the unintended consequences of trying to have a humane policy. Try to have some perspective.

@@Me97202 "The voters" didnt' think far enough ahead did they. They "assumed" one big happy family. Look what "assuming" gets ya. Now they will all have to live with a complete destruction of a city. If they survive they will end up moving. Running like tiny snowflakes.

You call this humane ? Letting people live outside in parking lots in filth. I have compassion for the homeless. I also have compassion for the hardworking people who is having his livelihood destroyed. Yes people of Portland voted for this. Homeless Americans are sleeping on the streets while illegal immigrants are put in hotel rooms, feed, given medical care. But you vote Democrat, you vote for open borders and America and Americans last.
