its true. top level comedians require high level of intelligence as humor is defined as a subset of logic related intelligence rather than its own category. however, their lack of knowledge in real world affairs compared to scholars who actually study the field make them a poor target to be taken seriously. I think that what makes Dave Chappelle the best and most brilliant comic alive is that he has somehow ingeniously managed to blend the brilliant storytelling of Richard Pryor with the sardonic wit of Jack Benny or Groucho Marx and the laser like timing of Milton Berle and Bob Hope.
Add to that the amazingly calm and confident stage presence of Moms Mabley or Bill Cosby and his own hilariously high-pitched voice and facial expressions.
While many comics are funny, I think the greatest difference between them and Chappelle is that he doesn’t have to try to be funny. He simply is The Best Comic of All Time
