I hate that so many jokes are just so much on the nose now. I don’t get why they’re being “generous” with their audience, why they care if we get the joke or not. One of the best things about TG was that some of the jokes flew over your head and only later you understood them, and that made it so much better.
Now it’s like they’re holding a sign “LOOK HERE, THIS IS A JOKE!”. P.S. i don’t mean every joke they tell is bad, but you can see the difference.

@@nothajzl Nah its just that unfortunately times have changed, its just so much harder to do comedy nowadays when you have that kind of popularity. So many of the jokes they used to make that were borderline 8-10 years ago would never fly today. Think about how the how much shit spotify has gotten from their own employees for their deal with joe rogan and he isnt anywhere near as controversial as they sometimes could be.
@@henrywilson575 I don't really feel like top gear was all that "edgy" tbh. Sure they were some pushing of boundaries here and there but mostly their jokes were at the expense of each other and 90% of their jokes weren't problematic in any way I would say. Just snippy British humor.
Also, considering what American shows and even other British shows were doing at that time (i.e full on racist stereotypes and offensive drivel masquerading as "humor"), the worst top gear did was call each the r word.

Honestly, I wish entertainment was still like this. You cant please everyone and no matter what, someone is going to be offended and complain, just because thats what they do. These days those people use Twitter. Obviously, its different if they were slinging around actual slurs, but getting bent out of shape over jokes is YOUR problem. Words only have as much power as we give them and I firmly believe that the only way to get rid of the issues in this world is to make them laughing stocks.
Very true! Virtually everything can be funny in the right light or situation, jokes are jokes and getting offended by them is missing the point. But as you say it's different these days, it's like there's a small but very vocal minority getting offended by everything and they get to dictate what the majority can enjoy.
Jordan Peterson made a very interesting point in an interview, that you "can't say anything about anything important ever without offending" and continues to make the point that there's this idea today that you can't offend anyone. So what if you're speaking to one person, do you have the right to offend that person? What if you're speaking to 10 people? Do you get to offend 1 in 10? Or 1 in a 1000?

THe difference is that they were basically screaming into the void and so batshit insane with the Satanic Panic thing that it only really effected America and not that much since everyone sensible just rolled their eyes and moved on. @@TetraDax Oh, I know that, the problem is that its getting more and more common for people to get bent out of shape over it and the internet makes complaining a lot easier and more public, which leads the big, mass market appeal entertainment groups more likely to crack down on it in the name of, well, mass market appeal. I love how the apologies start with a promise of sincerity, as if to appease the offended, and then immediately transposes into a one-liner that reoffends the offended, and offends 3 more, yet you can't help but love them for it. Never change kings, never change.

But I also don’t want obviously scripted explosions and accidents, these guys aren’t actors I can’t watch the motorhone special again because of the obvious scripting.
These three really have taught me how to make offensive jokes professionally and get it away with it. They are just the best! I miss this era of shows where everyone is not too sensitive and complain about everything, you can't make anyone understand these clips nowadays. They would just "cancel" you in social media haha lmao.
That's why a lot of actors dont have personal social media accounts. People get upset at things they do on tv when it's just for entertainment. Which is subjective. If people don't like it, dont try and cancel it and try to have them lose their job just don't watch it. 3 people complain and shout but 350million people enjoyed this show, so why do people listen to these complaints.

I am absolutely amazed at how those three control their laughter, i absolutely cannot understand how they do it. Even in comedy films there are so many bloopers where they fall over laughing and they can only shoot it when they do it so many times it becomes boring. These guys are actually incredible

What was so funny about them, was that whenever a complaint came in they brought some of it up live and just “lol eat shit” and that was that. No apologies, no regretful speech or justifications, just “mm yes cry more”.
There is one fact about this show many have forgotten about (even though it has been only a few short years) and some other people try to bury because the trio is not woke: when the trio left, Top Gear was the biggest TV show (not just car show) on the planet and by far the biggest money earning program for the BBC. They were actually profitable.
Just a shame it ended the way it did

Talking about Morris Marinas I always remember with my mine the terrible decision of which to keep off of the windscreen wipers or headlamps on a dark rainy night so as to not overload the dynamo with everything going off.
I adore how they deal with offended people. In Sweden, if someone gets offended, SVT (the Swedish equivalent of BBC), they would say they are ”deeply sorry for any mistake” and the whole show would probably be canceled.
I've watched this video a few times now and it never fails to make me laugh, love it!

It's really about 3 older British gentlemen that are offensive, hilarious and juvenile that just happened to be featured on a car show.
These segments were just perfect. Loved them.
I think the best thing about Top Gear, was I could sit at home and watch it on TV, sitting in my living room on a couch or lounge chair.
And not have to stand in the audience. Much more enjoyable sitting and laughing at their antics.
I gotta be careful. You never know when pianos are in the forecast.
