    I always use the 'Murphy's Law' factor to all of my automotive endeavors. 'Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong' and old Murph showed up in today's episode. At least you caught it and are going to deal with it. If for some reason you ever decide to part with this car you have full documentation of all the work and corrective repairs that were done. Brilliant stuff...keep up the great work man!

    Must of took a fair whack on that side to damage the inners like that, but that new "rocker" or sill as I would call it in N Ireland should sort it, like your homemade jacking beams might do that myself👍

    Nice work! What type of sheet metal are you using for patches?

    • @MysteryGarage
      @MysteryGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      I use 2 different types depending on the job. For smaller area and ones I can access the reverse side I use an expensive coated metal product that I buy packaged. The coating works to prevent oxidization in the future especially if I cant coat or access the reverse side. But for larger and accessible areas I use just plain Sheetmetal from a metal supermarket, much cheaper and easy to source. And since i can coat it myself, does the trick perfectly!! Thanks so much for watching, always appreciate the comments!!

    Nice job on the repairs and at least you found the big issue now while you are in the body repair stage. An extra day to make it right will be worthwhile. Why is that rear pan section on both sides of the mk1 rust prone? Is there no drain hole for moisture to escape? How would you prevent that on a clean factory car that doesn’t have it yet? Drill a drain hole and spray some rust converter/protector up there maybe like Eastwood frame spray?

    • @MysteryGarage
      @MysteryGarage  Před 3 lety

      Ya exactly! It’s just prone to catching road grime, water from the roads etc, and unless cleaned often will eventually lead to rust. Rust converter and maintaining this area I’m sure will definitely extend life for sure! Appreciate the comments!! Thanks for watching!!

  • @jayinmi3706
    @jayinmi3706 Před 3 lety

    My S-10 build ran into a lot of similar issues. It looked solid as a rock except for the driver's floor (expected, they always rust through) and the rockers had some bubbling. I ended up having to build (from scratch) both inner rockers, and use 2 rockers per side to reconstruct the inner structure. Glad to see you're fixing it right!

    Man too bad that mounting hole was toast. I could use the mounting hole in the back, both sides, to do my 3 point seatbelts in the back.

    • @MysteryGarage
      @MysteryGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      Considered it, but To be honest, i may not use rear seats in this build, i haven't made up my mind on that one quite yet. But even if i do, rear is lap belts in this one anyways. Always appreciate the comments! Thanks so much for watching!!

    • @tallgiese1
      @tallgiese1 Před 3 lety

      Yes they are lap belts in my 81 westmoreland rabbit, but on your rear panels there is a threaded hole for a belt reel, where mine does not have those. On the rear left side you actually have more metal. The piece you cut out with that black "screw" is a seat belt reel mounting point.

    Hi, do you weld in braces when you do rust repair on your cars at all? I personally don't think it is necessary if you take off the suspension. Shouldn't be a lot of stress left in the chassis?

  • @arickk2511
    @arickk2511 Před 3 lety +1

    What kind of stand are you using to have the car up in the air?

    • @MysteryGarage
      @MysteryGarage  Před 3 lety +1

      They are steel heavy weight saw horses, then I welded pickup points. If you visit my instagram @mk1build and search way back you can see detailed pictures. Or dm me, I can send them to you. SUPER HANDY, Cheers!!
