Gwen was designed to counter tanks. Tanks aren’t good in the meta, so Gwen won’t be that good. She is supposed to struggle against fighters, and fighters are super strong right now. Gwen can’t hard carry like other top laners right now because she doesn’t scale well vs the kind of comps that are in meta.

@@carlod5818 Well, she is a scaling champ indeed. The main problem is that she often loses against other skirmishers/ bruisers and ranged champs. She performs really well as a tank shredder, but getting through the early game can be hard. She has no hard CC or range, which makes it hard for her to stay put if she gets just a little bit behind.
In this video, for example, the Irelia played really bad and allowed Gwen to scale well in the early game which is exactly what she wants.
AP Ezreal was purposefully nerfed out of viability. The same way AP Yi was deleted. Riot did that on purpose. Those people in those games choose to be wrong on purpose. They're like old people who still swear their C10 pickup is the most reliable vehicle when it has sat rusting outside for over 20 years and leaked every fluid dry.
The sad part is, they nerfed it because of Double Tear Ezreal build, but then they did so you couldn't buy double tear and just left it at that

got to be careful about buffs tho. ez tends to run away with games whenever i see him, but its also the skillshots that help hurt him, when you overtune a skillshot and someone who is good on it, the balance will become crazy, he can already half hp people with a WQ combo and anything worse then that will just make him a monster.
It's also as mentioned, specificly ezreal mid. Ez adc has a 49% winrate. Not great, definitly not terrible.

the last thing ezreal needs is a buff. he’s perfectly fine the way he is. some people even argue that he’s broken but riot ignores it bc he’s completely skillshot reliant. he’s also one of the only adc who can get away with building tanky items lol. by no means is he weak

is probably from a bug in the most recent patch where zacs E will often go where your cursor was a few seconds prior if you swap your cameralock mid charge and ive even seen a few cases of a zac E dead center onto a scuttle just to do no damage or cc happen essentially throwing the near 20 second CD in the trash but hey if vex's W works now some ability has to take its place

Gwen legit got nerfed decently hard a couple of patches ago because she was over performing in high elo. Now she has one of the lowest winrates in the game. Real headscratcher.

What makes it so funny imo is that it's hardly surprising too. Stat stick champions like Gwen, Tryndamere, Garen, etc really rely on their numbers since they don't have a ton of skill expression (not to say they have none, but I think my point gets across). Reducing her E's bonus attack range because it synergizes too well with a problematic keystone is questionable at best imo.

Ezreal does not need a buff he can build literally anything, tank, AP, AD, hybrid, and still be op with any build, he's literally been meta since release, if he has a negative wr right now that's just because ezreal mains are unable to even play yuumi excluding some rare exceptions.

i think winrate is a very poor indicator of a champion's strength, because it's heavily biased by many factors like popularity, itemization, and above all MMR. i can give you many examples of champions that are stronger or weaker than what their winrate would suggest. you'll see that MMR by itself actually invalidate winrate as a metric for anything.
obviously, aurelion sol still got the 5th best winrate in plat+, he must be one of the strongest pick of the meta... and obviously, aurelion sol winrate is biased because he's only played by die hard mains and one tricks who play him and the game overall very well, but all those suppositions don't matter at all. they already reached the elo for their skills, and those guys are overall at 50% winrate. when do they loose you ask me? when they have to pick something other than their main, because it's banned or because the comp or matchup is just too bad for them, so aurelion sol winrate stay high.
now, think of any hyper carry that you think is broken in the meta, any. most of the time we end up with akali, yone, irelia, viego, etc, but who exactly doesn't matter. what we can agree on is that those champions have the strength to pull off plays that are vastly more unfavorable to them than other champions, so for people who plays them a lot, this is the normal, they are not playing in the safety of making normal plays while being stronger, they are not playing with that margin of strength, they are playing on the edge of being broken, where the tiniest mistake ruin their play and get them killed, the simple fact those kind of plays are close calls is already broken in itself, but coinflipping plays harder than others don't yield great result, you're still pulling it off only half of the time, you're just doing it more often.
a good illustration of that point is the yasuo/yone syndrome, they go 0/10 in lane then destroy everything with a 1-2 items powerspike. everybody knows those champs have incredible scaling, and yet they are rarely dying from pressure, they are dying from their own early plays. this means it's not about weak early and strong scaling, in most cases, the yas/yone who's carrying after feeding early could have just waited and been stronger earlier without making one of his enemies stronger. this is straight up better results from doing absolutely nothing.
and finally, the ranking bias, it's simple really, think of any champion, would you agree with me that a champion tend to be mainly played by people who play him often, even if it's not their main? so this champion and it's strength already affects the mmr and ranking of the people that plays him, if the champ is strong it's players will tend to climb a tiny bit more than their skills, if it's weak the players will climb a tiny bit less (or actually a lot more/less in some cases). and the mmr, ranking and matchmaking system is meant to place people where they'll have a 50% winrate, where they meet their match in results (not skills, but results, that's important). so basically, people who have strong champs in their 3-5 champ pool will just rank higher with the same around 50% winrate and draw even a broken champ towards that 50% that seems balanced. people who have weak champs in their champ pool will just rank lower, bla bla... and weak champs too will tend to be close to 50%.
in short if you main yuumi jungle, eventually, you'll be so low that you'll win half of your games. if you main even an imaginary champ 10 times more broken than anything that exists, you'll eventually land so high above your skill level that you'll still loose half of your games.
this could be invalidated by iron and challenger elo, when you can't go lower or higher than that to compensate winrate, but it doesn't matter either, because for one, the game is just played differently there, and mainly because we all know those are a tiny minority of players, and stats are not influenced by a 0.02% minority.
i wanted to touch on the case of low elo players using high elo strats and builds (or outdated builds), like hecarim phase rush chemtank when they don't have the skills or the team to make it work even though it's broken. but it's kinda meaningless at this point after my other points.
what i think are reliable indicators are pickrates and banrates, they may not indicate something you always want to use, but they are very reliable in what they do tell. pickrate is indicative of how many players wanna play that champ, how many think it's strong, fun, reliable, or whatever that makes a champ desirable to play. so if you see an unusually high or low pickrate it means something may be up with that champion, you can ask yourself the question of why and once you find an answer buff or nerf accordingly, perhaps it's too strong, perhaps it's not fun to play. then banrate is literally the expression of how many players don't wanna see that champion, if up to the 11th highest banrate a 5th of your players don't want to see a champ there might be an issue... perhaps it's too strong, perhaps it's frustrating to face, no matter the reason, there's something that needs a touch up...
i wholeheartedly believe that if the game was balanced around pick and ban rates instead of winrates, it would be more fun for everyone. perhaps not balanced, but it's already not balanced anyways, but it would be more fun and interactive.

I couldn't care less how the Winrate of Champions in an offrole Lane are. As long as Ezrael ADC is not too far away from 50% Winrate, Riot won't do anything. They won't balance an ADC Champ because he is not performing so good on Midlane or any other role. Because Riot will argument the same way I will do here: "It's a freakin' ADC and if you play him in Midlane and lose it's your freakin' own business."
I didn't realize Ez mid was that atrocious. First picked Veigar mid the other night in a Plat 4 game and the dude on the other team locked in Ez mid almost instantly. Guy oppressed the fuck out of me for the first 15 minutes of the game, but ended up finishing 3/9 while my team dominated them. Makes sense now I guess

Did they give Gwen a buff since this video? I have not played lol since idk 2015 or so, so I never played with Gwen. But I do watch international tournaments and on MSI this year she was like in nearly every game. I understand that competitive and solo q are two different things but a champ can't be that bad if it is such a priority pick for pro teams? Is it a high skill champ that only has a low winrate because the majority of the playerbase doesn't know how to play it?

I actually caved in and got Buff earlier this year and honestly? It's.. not bad actually. Sure it takes a while to stack points but you do get bonuses for being a regular user plus it's kind of a fun challenge. If you play LoL or Overwatch or whatever for hours, might as well use buff to just have a little more fun imo🤷♀️

Ezreal's winrate is reflective of the overall game meta. If slow/easy to hit tanks and beefy bruisers are dominating the meta then he's going to have closer to 50% because he can free cast shitloads of damage all day long. If champions like Jayce, Trynd, etc are what's being played in place of champs he would normally be pinging away at then of course his winrate is going to drop because his overall output/damage is also going to drop meaning his team is worse off in general unless the other AD is even more useless because of a random burst mage deleting them or something.
Corki has the second lowest winrate in the game with Aphelios being third lowest in Diamond+ (around where the champ actually starts to matter over general incompetence). Corki literally deletes people with rockets and invisible package trails. Aphelios requires more of a structured team around him, which you're not going to find in random ranked games.
Both picks are highly contested in pro play and perform well. Corki probably has a low winrate because all the 1 tricks mid or something trying to play him and bombing (I have no other reason, he's braindead with the current builds). Aphelios because of the lack of structure mentioned. If you go purely by winrates you would have to say they need buffs more than Illaoi and other useless (by design) champs.

Currently at work, but would rather watch Twinkleshit get rammed, roasted & released. He's one of my mains, and you can tell by my D+ average, 0LP harboring, 7% win-rate repping ass.
Ezreal isn't weak, he has a high skill floor. It doesn't seem at first glance, as his kit is not particulary complex, but his low range with more than half a dmg being binded to skillshots that are not easly landed makes that he is one of the "main or don't play at all" champs. Not only you need great amount of practice with him to understand his limits, what he can and can't do, as he needs to constantly put himself very close to overextending to match the dps of other adc's, he also is one of the champions that you leave for a few days and you find you can't land half of skillshots anymore. But plenty of people pick him when autofilled, bcs they saw him pomp off in proplay or in challeger hands, or they got destroyed by one. So they grief and lower his win rate.
Not gonna talk about gwen as she is not champion I play a lot. But I am Ezreal main, so I know a thing or two about him.

Gwen doesn't need any buff, she needs a proper design, she either is OP as fuck, or does nothing. Her kit is so overloaded that any, even small buff can make her spiral out of control.
The total opposite reason tho. Her kit is so handicapped to stay within scaling of ad bruisers' far superior items, that a simple mechanic nerf sent her into bottom ten twice.
She's a catch 22 along with Mordekaiser where if they fix their items, you get bruiser Ekko, Akali, and Diana (Well outside divine sunderer and turbo chemtank for the latter two) being the best characters.
I dont want ezreal buffs, i already have a contingancy plan for fucking ezreals (Ap Ad Tank) and its already convolutes, i dont want to make it more fucking comboluted.

ofc ezreal has a bad winrate at gold elo. when i was gold i used to ban him just coz noone of my teammates can pick it. ppl just suck with him. he is not about the ult hits (sure that too) but all about the qs. that shit is up every 2 seconds. and they just not using it on cd or if so they miss almost 50% of the time. sooo yeah.. ezreal is like ward for supports below diamond. supports have some wards, but they do not place them and gods forbid they buy any pinks. soo yeah ppl. don't pick ezreal if you are not pressing q on cd and hit at least 55% of them. ty.
the reason ezreal is balanced at 48% winrate (in every rank besides gold) is that there are good ezreals that land more qs and bad ezreals as well. if you buff the champ... u remember when kalista was an opressive champ in pro play and in plat+? well it was a hell of a time wasn't it? ezreal is the same as kalista just with different skillset. they are both high skill champs and in low elo well there is a reason why it's low elo. there is no shame in it. i mean i'm diamond here but silver in sc2... some things you good at and some things you play because it is fun.
Midlaners are supposed to have waveclear. It's one of their jobs for roaming. Ezreal has arguably the worst wave clear in the game.

@@StarlitKing I completely disagree with her getting a buff. I mean I have been playing her a lot and don't perform to poorly. In teamfights she deals a surprisingly a lot of damage with her ult and can mostly ignore backlines if she doesn't want to focus them or force them to flee by rushing up in their face if they got no peeling. I'm really not gonna complain about a champ that I am currently enjoying getting buffed but that doesn't mean I think she needed one. She feels really good for me as she is right now. I have no qualms about her being better.
