Anthony’s reaction: “WOW, WHAT?! SO EXITED!’”
Jonathan’s reaction: a funeral
I really like the different approaches of different LMG channels. Anthony is telling about how new chips are all the rage, while Jonathan is like "yeah 2 new chips and they're better but moving on".
@@annihilaiser3736 is this a LMG page? Fuck I'm blind

Anthony: "FUNCTION KEYS!!!!"

After giving users everything they wanted, Apple made sure to give them one thing they didn't want with the notch to remind them who's in charge.
I genuinly think it is something like that. Or the free publicity from anti-Apple NPCs. There will not be single person who doesn’t buy those laptops because of that notch, so there is nothing to lose for Apple.
Look at it this way, they did not add the notch. Notch was already there, it was just wide as a screen, that black bar at the top of the screen. Now they just removed left and right part of it and kept the middle part. Now menu bar can go up there, and you get more screen for apps.
Notch is something I wanted, but didn't know I wanted. Middle of the menu bar is usually empty. Camera going in there, and leaving more room for content is GREAT. But I'm also happy it's there to give something for haters to joke about :P
I am so stoked about getting a notch on the new iPads and Apple Watch series 8 🤣
@@Sasoon2006 I agree, but it's also an inelegant solution. It should have just been a hole punch. Not a deal breaker, but kind of goofy looking to me.
"I'd like to buy one of those M1 Macs pls"
"M1 Max or M1 Macs?"
Exactly, I can't understand how no one realised their similar names
"Hhaha, why are you saying the same thing again, I said M1 "Macs" Here take my card"
"sure I will tell him to get one of those M1 Max, anyways enter the pin sir"
"done"
"thanks a lot sir"

"TF it's 1000$ right?"
"Let me get the box, here"
"I asked for M1 Mac"
*"Sorry sir we done refund the money back nor do we exchange the product 😎"*
HEY ITS JUST A M1 MAC FOR 2000 TOTALY
Have they made any M1 Macs?
“M1 Max Macs?”
After seeing the reveal, I thought "Johnathan is going to be pretty happy."
Also my thoughts
@@ivd4086 watch some videos explaining why the notch is good
I love how LTT and Mac Address both put the same title "Damn, Apple." for their videos. I don't use any apple products, but I do like to keep up with them, and Jonathan is becoming my favourite presenter to get the apple news from, but I will be checking the Anthony video for hopefully a healthy bit of scepticism too :D
Well, you will be disappointed 😂
Spoiler: There isn't actually that much scepticism in the LTT Video either which is kind of telling about this launch. I am really hyped for both the Mac Address and LTT full review though as they will probably be way different in the way they go about testing these devices

This channel feels like the red headed stepchild of Linus Media group. Anthony talked about the resident Mac expert and not a mention of this guy Anthony talked to someone else.
@@latech7671 We need linus to rant about the plague called the Notch!

Mac Address: "Damn, Apple."
Me: OK.
They are both owned by the same company…
Honestly, they shouldn’t have removed MagSafe in the first place
I disagree, honestly. I know people like MagSafe, but I was willing to sacrifice it in the name of everything just having One Charger. I know you can still charge using USB-C, but most people won’t have the USB-C chargers.
I like everything else though.
They shouldn’t have removed any of them.
This is called creating a problem to solve it
Agreed, but, still having 1 charger for all devices was good.
MBPR 2012 - 2015 has the best port selection, back in when MBP Touch Bar were introduced they should have just replace the TB2 and USB A port with TB3/USBC
I wish the iPhone team was as brave and exciting as the Mac team's work of late. Love the embracing of ports and sooo much type c!
Yes, why doesnt the iPhone have HDMI and a SD Card slot?
It has a NOTCH. It's a Mac, and it has A NOTCH? 😀
Yeah damn I wish my iPhone had Ethernet and and thunderbolt port…
@@goudendynamiethd2117 I'm fine with the notch existing, but why is it the same size as the phones, without any face recognition.

I'm a software developer by trade so I'd get the best one I could get away with from my employer. I'd be hard-pressed to manage to justify anything more than the base 16" with a 32GB ram upgrade. The M1 Max is completely overkill for my use case, but I'd love to have the M1 Pro.
It was hard for me to decide but I went with 16Gb of ram which my gut tells me I may regret but on the same token my thought process was that it would be rare for me to be coding my biggest projects on the Mac. For real work I would just use the desktop or could remote in and for light coding I figured it would not be the end of the world. Especially since there were people using the m1 air with 8gb of ram just fine
@@dennisp8520 If my employer would upgrade my mac (which they won't because I have quite new M1), I'd definitely push towards 32GB of RAM, as currently doing medium-size workload, the RAM is always maxed out in terms of usage and has quite a bit of swap as well (also memory pressure graph is always yellow, almost never green, and super rarely red).
Even tho I have no stutters and no spinning pinwheel due to 16gb of ram, I'd still rather have 32 for less ssd wear.
@@killerlion6 yea I canceled my original order and did 32 gb of ram and the cut down max chip. My gut felt super uneasy about trying to be cheap on something that was already very expensive. I know it’s apples to oranges but when I looked at the ram my windows machine would eat up 16Gb on average I was like it’s cutting close. My oh MacBook Pro 2015 always struggled with ram as well and it had 16gb.
Part me thought that with the must faster ssd and the fact that the unified memory had so much bandwidth it may not matter as much but better to be safe than sorry since you can’t just go in and upgrade it
Depends what you do but even on m1 with lots open xcode builds can get annoyingly long
@@killerlion6 My 16"/2019 usually uses around 24-30 GB of RAM. That's just 6 Chrome tabs, 46 in Safari, Viber, and Skype. It gets more with Xcode. Makes me wonder how people make the day with 16 or less. 32 is fine, 64 GB is overkill, but useful if you plan for the future. Swap used 0, cached files 16 GB. I often run multiple VMs (2-10 GB), as well as 7z compression (10 GB).
With regards to the "notch" and aspect ratio: think of the screen as a 16 : 10 aspect ratio screen, with another 74 additional rows of pixels added on top, either side of the camera.
For apps in full screen mode, those "tabs" either side of the camera are not used, therefore no notch in that situation (i.e. you just get a 16 : 10 aspect ratio screen). When viewing video content, any widescreen content will be shorter than the height of the screen and therefore letterboxed anyway, hence again, no notch.
The only time you'll have a notch is in "normal" mode with the menubar visible. In dark mode, the notch will hardly be visible, and if the notch really bothers you that much, I'm sure it'll be possible to prevent the menubar going into that area of the screen, whether that be via a "native" setting or third-party software (which will be sure to appear if there's no native setting for this).
The menu bar changes based on the wallpaper since macOS Big Sur, so it will be visible in dark mode. I agree with everything else though.
@@thebuddercweeper Ah yes, good point. macOS has actually done this for a while, since at least Mojave (what I'm running). In that case, if you wanted to keep using the space either side of the camera, but wanted to make the notch "disappear", you'd have to edit your wallpapers to include a black bar at the top. There is some software available to help with that, but it's still a pain. Alternatively, you can use “reduce transparency” in Accessibility options in Settings, but that affects more than just the menubar.
@@g0away I don’t get your point, sorry. How would making it wider have helped Apple? The best place for the camera is in the top-centre of the screen. They could have kept a thick bezel at the top like previous gen MacBook Pro, but instead they put in some extra screen pixels either side of the camera.
what about the times when someone will want to play a game like League of Legends, World of Warcraft or anything of this sort? Where will the notch go then?
@@MF_OXF Notch is system-only part of the screen, that's it. Apps don't get to use notched area (also there's rounded corners in that area, but nobody seems to pay attention to them).
In full screen notch goes black (given it's mini-LED/has shitton of backlight zones bleed shouldn't be a problem) and app gets to draw on rectangular area of the screen with same physical size/shape as on old macbook.
Maybe they would add a way for apps to use it, but only after app explicitly tells the system it'll handle the notch.
Lol did anyone else just get recommended the two LMG videos with the same title? Damn, LMG.
Yeah right after the one I watched on LTT
I am so glad this channel exists
Same host guy is great too
i love they both upload the same time with the same title. whoever came up with it is a genius
i found your review is much interesting than others. great! your high and low voice tone captured my attention to listen more
That notch.... I'm surprised that they still haven't removed 3.5mm jack.
They even enhanced it!
Considering Logic Pro is one of the main drawcards to owning a Macbook they’d be insane to ever remove a wired headphone option. Airpods, even the Max, may be “good enough” for music consumption but they are in no way even remotely suitable for audio production.
@@MrMonkeyCrumpets Considering that many people use Macbook Pros for photo and video editing it was really surprising to see memory card slot being removed. Good to see it back. As well as magsafe.
What’s wrong with the notch? I don’t get why people hate it so much.
@@MrMonkeyCrumpets Most people doing serious music production are probably running an XLR interface anyways, but I am still glad they kept the jack
I like that both LMG clips for the MacBook Pro have the same title. Nice touch.
I like the “me wonders” at 5:26 lmao
Really glad they added back magsafe and other ports
I love that the titles of the LTT video and Mac Address videos regarding this announcement are the same.
Likely a test. ;)
It was all celebration until the price tag hits you with reality
Show me another laptop with 1600nit 120hz screen, this performance, battery life and rigid metal housing for 1999$.. It´s priced the same, or in some cases cheaper than an XPS with similar spec (and worse performance...).
@@nyubi007 Quite right.
It’s also worth noting that if you give an M1 MacBook Pro the same specs (512GB of SSD, 16GB of RAM), it comes to about the same price as the old higher end Intel model, so if they kept the 14” at the same price there wouldn’t have been enough of a gap considering the base 14” probably has lower profit margins than an upgraded M1 MacBook, so Apple would probably rather you not make that price jump.
The MBP is literally the cheapest laptop you can find for the specs it packs.
This machine isn't your $400 Walmart special. This machine is for Pro's, and price to performance it curb stops all over the competition. If you think it's too expensive you clearly aren't in the market for this kind of machine.
@@nyubi007 If you look at the base model, sure. But if you do non-trivial work on these machines you'll want more memory and the upgrades from base model are crazy expensive. A mid-range Dell with similar performance (likely for my use-case) is significantly cheaper than the new Macs. And you can upgrade or replace storage.
I mean, if you need Xcode it's not like you have a choice so I get the price but for general purpose computing it is not good value.
Was waiting for this video!
Your vid questions things that were answered in the keynote. The notch resides in additional display area that is not used while apps are full-screen. The notch doesn't encroach, it allows additional display space alongside.
I'm looking forward to replacing my intel MacBook Pro. Im thinking of getting the 14 instead of the 16 this time around and am definitely going to be getting the max chip. Personally as someone who has psoriasis Im looking forward to upgrading my earbuds to the new model as silicone does not do well with my skin at all. I might also be getting my first home assistant with the new home pod as well. One of my big questions was why there wasn't any more information and details on the MacOS Monterey release. looking forward to hearing reviews and more details on these new products. Another great video from MA! Keep up the great work!
Same Tittle but a completely different perspective This is so good.
I would disagree about CPU performance being almost the same. The M1 has 4 efficiency and 4 performance cores. The new 10 core processors have 8 performance and only 2 efficiency cores. That’s a big difference in performance!
I think he means there would likely be no difference in single core performance
Yeah cores do not scale linearly. Single core will be the same and Geekbench suggest multicore only jumps from 7000 to 11000 when you go from 4 core M1 to flipping TEN core M1 pro which costs like 1500 more.
@@LordDRockMusic Overkill for many. I regret not buying the M1 MBP last year. Now I'm stuck... what to buy. lol
@@Richard.Cabeza M1 Air still by far best deal on a laptop right now imo
@@LordDRockMusic I'm seriously considering the M1 Air.
I ordered the 14 with the next-to-highest Max processor and 64GB of ram. I wanted the display support, the added GPU performance, and the extra RAM, but in a small form factor that I can travel with when not docked to my desk. My use cases are: small scale ML, video/photo editing, and software engineering.
rip 2016 macbook design, thank god we will never miss you
I actually liked the previous design. The new one looks ugly.
@@sadatnafis2032 well the only good thing that it has it the looks
Loving this channel and the perspective it provides. Also, if I were to get one of these Macs, I would get the base model of the 16 inch MacBook Pro and upgrade it to 32GB of RAM (and maybe go up to 1TB of storage, but that isn't an absolutely necessary upgrade when fast USB-C and/or Thunderbolt SSDs exist that I can use instead for (probably) less money). If I had lots of money to burn, I'd also spring for the M1 Max chip, but that ain't the case, so I'd stick with the M1 Pro.
Oh wow, it really does look a lot like the PowerBook Titanium. I knew the design was vaguely familiar.
I’ll be waiting for the render benchmarks. The M1 was no slouch, but I’d love to hit 1:1 or better on heavy 4K 4:2:2/10 transcoding. If so, Maxed out Max for me 😋💸
Cant wait for my new 16" to come! Still rockin this 2012 MBP and it really holds up in alot of areas.
You make the best content in the best design. Not just talking to us from a screen
Finally, another high-quality, informative channel from LMG that's in 16:9! Finally, keeping the standard for a reason and not going to 2:1 because "oh the phones are changing"!
I really love these computers. I can't get one, as I have a good enough laptop and these aren't something I can impulse buy, but if I were to buy one, I'd get a 14 inch model, with an M1 Pro (10/16), 32GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. That's under $3000, and could encode, render, and compile all of my projects way faster than anything I currently own (and theoretically any x86 laptop at that price point, although I guess I'll have to check in later to see your test results). I was already excited when the M1 launched, and these are even better. Looking forward to more great videos!
I would love a video about what Thunderbolt 4 Dock would be perfect for the new Macbook Pro's
Aren’t docks screw up the thermal stuff?
Caldigit TS3+
Just a rectification you can charge through the usb4/ type c ports on the macbook
The SD card slot is FINALLY back. This was a massive pain for me in my short lived term with a post-2015 13".
I'd get the base 14" with increased storage. Was *really* hoping for a new more powerful Mini though.
i kind of loved the touch bar with logic pro
My first ever laptop was the original MacBook. It was an awesome introduction to the internet, online gaming, and productivity as a whole. It got me through my first programming class in college, 8 years after I first got it. Although the white chassis was a fingerprint magnet, the glowing Apple logo was a brilliant icon for its awesomeness.
The aspect ratio is funky because of the notch. The area beneath it is the normal 16:10.
"OJ Macbook", Please tell me I"m not the only one that noticed that :D
OG.
It's a killer
@Master Kush: you are not the only one, even the CC on the video read "OJ".
Jonathan: please, it's "O.G." (Original Gangsta) not orange juice.
Taskbar too
Word
Sadly, according to Apple’s spec page, the HDMI might be 2.0, not 2.1. It only supports 4K at 60hz.
I'm guessing that if you do need 4k high refresh rate you can use the thunderbolt 4 port to drive external display or atleast use a thunderbolt 4 to hdmi 2.1 adapter to give you 40gbps bandwidth.
@@JayDpwnz so basically we’d have been better off just sticking to an extra usbc anyway?
Even the sd slot is just uhs-I. Huge shame.
I love how this video is titled the same as the one with Anthony
(At least for now)
I've got a 2019 16. I think I'd be happy with the 14 inch base model. Probably upgrading the ram to 32 gigs, but we'll have to see what the ram management is like
The RAM management is very good on MacOS and you generally need double the RAM on Windows to do the same thing.
Can you make a speed type comparaison between a full keyboard and the new Mac keyboard ? Lettres and numbers ?
About the notch: You're basically getting free screen space for the menu bar (that in Monterey conveniently has exactly the same height as the notch), just as the iPhone in portrait mode uses the space left and right of the notch for status display. Since most media has a 16:9 or wider ratio, the notch will not interfere with it, just as the iPhone's display is wide enough to display 16:9 content without overlapping the notch. Fullscreen apps in compatibility mode just won't use the extra space around the notch, but can be updated to do so - again just as it was done when the iPhone 10 introduced the original notch.
Overall I like this solution very much and it absolutely shows the benefits of vertical integration.
Gee, I checked 10 minutes ago :) And now 6 minutes ago, it is there... The video!
Much of my time each day is spent waiting for code to compile, so I will get the fastest M1 Max Macbook Pro that I can afford. I've been using the M1 Mac Mini and M1 Macbook Pro as my main systems, and I still have a 2019 Intel Mac Mini. The 12-core Intel Mini was still significantly faster at compiling code than the 8-core M1 Mini the last time I checked (with much of the OSS toolchain still running under Rosetta) but the Intel Mini runs the fans a lot more, so I've been sticking with the M1 and looking to the future. The new M1 Max laptop can replace all three of my curremt machines, so I should be able to recoup most or all of the cost for the upgrade. I will not miss the touch bar or the lack of ports. It was good to spend a year with the first generation, but we knew they were just the beginning of the revolution. The next iteration of the Mini and Pro Desktop should also be pretty amazing.
I love you videos but one small correction. The screen on the 16in is actually larger by 0.2 inches. That top row of screen with the notch is actually extra screen that was not there on the last gen 16in model. Also in full screen mode that row disappears allowing for a notch-less 16inch fullscreen experience.
Lol! First thought the start was the ad before the video
I have to say I kinda love the way charging works on the new MacBooks, but not because of magsafe. In fact, I never was a huge fan of magsafe. On my old MacBook it would catch debris over time and then not make good connection anymore, upon which I started having to constantly worry about whether it was actually charging or not when I plugged it in. That being said I understand that other people really like it. So in what seems to me as a super un-apple-ish move they are giving the users the option: use magsafe or USB-C, whichever you like (or both). Plus, magsafe now connects via cable to a USB-C charger meaning old chargers aren't becoming obsolete and fraying cables don't send the whole charger to a landfill. I would really not have expected such a move towards supporting consumer choice from Apple. And while I don't know that they did it for the reasons I like it, it makes me hopeful that they might bring a similar attitude to more areas of their product stack. Way to go Apple.
Damn, Mac Address.
I love your videos, so good!
Ordering the base 16”
I just an M1 13" Pro a few months ago, so I won't be getting one of these. But if I did I'd go for the 14" over the 16". I prefer the portability to screen real estate.
love how the LTT video has the same title as this one.
I have a full spec M1 Air and boooooy am I tempted to get the 14"
I'm very happy they added the ports, but I'm let down that they didn't add an Ethernet port as well. Was hoping it would at least be integrated into the magsafe power adapter like the iMac.
Strange that you would mention the aspect ratio and then the notch without noticing that the screen space under the notch is 16:10 so full screen content won't be affected
thought you cut your hair for a sec, Like: oh he's getting serious for this one! ;-)
My first tough: damn you really do NOT know how to use a shovel... 😲
Current 2016, 13-inch holder, I would absolutely go for that sweet 14 inch Max if possible. Logic Pro X chugs on my current one. Maybe I'll actually be able to afford a 2021 model in a few years time though lol
I'll wait to see what they do with mini, but out of these I'd take maxed out max.
Great take!
If I had to pick, I'd max out (heh) with a 16 in with 64gb RAM. I'm hoping there will be new imac skus next year w/ the m1 max; if so, I'll be getting one as soon as I can afford it. my intel mbp works fine for all my needs and probably will for a few more years. I can wait for the m2 before I upgrade that. the new imacs, however, are just so darn pretty.
I would love to see emulation performance on the pro and max GPUs because of the significant increase in power vs the 8 and 7 core gpus
I was ready to had in my money until I saw the notch “thanks apple for having one feature that ruins the whole package”
Love the same title as ltt main channel good job
What I noticed, the new MacBooks are sold big inning at 2000$ (equals to 1716€. But for some reason, the starting price in Europe (Germany) is 2249€ which is a, whopping 500€ more expensive than in the US. With taxes (which are included in the prictag in Germany), we have to add 19% to the US Price, getting us to 2000€. This still makes them buying it in Germany 250€ more expensive.
Ordered a 14" with M1 Max 10/24c with 32gb and 1tb ssd. Really looking forward to it, and the specs should be fine for years to come. Now I just need to figure out how to play games on it...
Having a hard time choosing between the Surface Studio and MBP M1 Max 16inch
they're probably gonna make the top bar always visible (even in fullscreen apps), and that's why they changed the aspect ratio
3:09 one of the upcoming features of macOS is going to be that the taskbar can stay up there for full screen apps. I guess we now know why!
or maybe it's going to just turn black, and when you hover ur mouse over it will appear. That's probablyl better or full screen wouldn't be any different from not fullscreen
Step 1: remove ports from your laptop
Step 2: wait a couple years
Step 3: put back some of the ports
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit
Oh damn, they actually gave us I/O back and mag safe?! I’ve not bought a new Mac in almost 10 years for these reasons specifically.
The last MBPs with these ports were made in 2017. I was rocking a 2013 MBP until I picked up a MBP 16" when they brought back the good keyboard.
USB-A is missing
Could I get a link to that ratio calculator?
As a video editor myself I would probably get the 14 inch maxed out with the m1 max chip and 64 gigs, if it doesn't throttle that is in the smaller case. Then I could have my big PC for editing at home or get a dock for the mac and sell the big PC. I'm waiting for reviews. I think the possible extra vram (shared but still) on the GPU might make a bunch of editing tasks easier. VFX especially.
I noticed a fly behind Jonathan 😆😆
Finally time to change my 2013 Macbook Pro 15 😁
How many times do you use full screen mode? I don't get the concern.
This latest MBP is certainly in the right direction. Maybe now bring back optical SPD/IF through the headphone port?... I think they could with the extra space.
I’m guessing the menu bar will be seen at all times. When you go fullscreen, a black bar will fill in the gaps caused by the notch.
I'm waiting for benchmarks, but am likely ordering the 16" model with a 24core GPU and 32Gb RAM.
I always set 4-finger-swipe to change volume on windows laptops, that isn't possible in MacOS is it? It's really convenient
I ordered the 14 inch MacBook Pro with 1 TB and 32 GB RAM (no SOC upgrade)
Damn It, I've already subscribed!
In Norway that spec'ed out 16" model costs $5500. Ouch.
2:30 It's actually pretty easy.
The aspect ratio is just 16:10 (3024x1890 and 3456x2160) plus 74 pixels of height at the top for the menubar/notch.
Is there a black menu bar option to hide the notch?
I grabbed the base 14” and upgraded to the higher watt charger.
Really want to get the 16" mbp with the max and 64gb ram, but the price... Yeeeaaaahhhh, ouch.
The intro😄
The 14" chassis is ~0.34" wider and longer than the 13" model it replaces, in exchange for a 14.2" screen instead of 13.3". They could've shrunk it slightly instead and stuck to a 13-ish display (maybe by 1 diagonal inch, since the 16" update shed about 2.1" diagonally). People were happy with 12" displays on netbooks with awful bezels. This would still be a bigger display than that, but significantly smaller than those netbooks on all 3 axes (and lighter, despite most netbooks having a lighter, cheaper exterior material and "skeleton").
I don't personally know any 13" MacBook owners (until I get one this week), but I assume the majority of people sacrificing that much display space on a (relatively) expensive laptop are pretty desperate for every gram and/or millimeter they can shave off their machine.
I know it's not a huge deal, but a hypothetical difference of ~1.5" (the small MBP growing 0.5" diagonally instead of shrinking by 1") isn't nothing, and making your ultraportables larger isn't progress.
When I saw the notch I thought “Oh okay, Face ID!” and then come to realize it’s just a webcam in that massive notch, lmao - not sure why they couldn’t just push that up into the bezel like the XPS 15
Also fullscreen apps appear to just have a black bar at the top and that area goes unused
Liked the video. White background behind you was a bit too bright though.
Will there be an Apple Event in November showcasing the MacBook Air and the iPad Air? or any other products?
These Macbooks are going to DESTROY all other laptops!
I ordered a 2TB, 64 GB Max & 5K LG to replace my 2012 Retina MacBook Pro AND my 2014 maxed out 5K iMac. Finally one machine to do it all.
Decent vid, but I'd like to see more MacOS software stuff, like command line tips, how to orient myself coming from a Linux background, etc.
