- In this video, we respond to some negative comments on our Ethnicity Q&A video and share some uncomfortable conversations surrounding interracial marriage.
After receiving so much feedback on our Ethnicity Q&A video, we sat down to discuss some of the topics that popped up. Brace yourself for some honest and open conversations on ethnicity, issues surrounding interracial marriage, and topics we struggled with including children, family, and cultural expectations.
We thank everyone who watched and commented for their interaction.

Masha’Allah thank you guys so much for this ❤️. When I married my husband who’s from Somalia we got so much backlash because I’m white and not from his culture. People were so worried what our kids would look like and that they would lose their identity. But alhamdullilah his family finally accepted me and I will be moving to Somalia soon 🥰. If you truly love someone and you’re devoted to Allah then color makes no difference.

As a Afro-Caribbean woman from Canada I think it’s unfair for anyone to expect our men to marry women of the same background. It’s a blessing to appreciate others of different cultures and mix if that’s what you want. That’s what I share with my young sons.
We shouldn't expect that, but we should expect to at least be seen as one of the viable options.

As Black women are the demographic least likely to be in long term relationships, I think it is also fair to expect Black men to favour their own over non Black. It just so happens that these two have a strong shared faith and similar experiences which is why they were harmonious.

As for the negative comments about not marrying black woman I think you are right that black woman experience so much rejection from other cultures it’s even more hurtful when they see that even black men are choosing other race women. Some black men say out loud that they don’t want black women or their preference is white or lighter skin women.
Obviously those men are not the representative for every black man. More often than not people just choose people not their race. It’s the person that attracts you not their race. And those are the r/ships that last because they are build on true connection not on superficial things like skin color.
It’s sad to see that other feel hurt or triggered by that same picture you mentioned of you two but please don’t let that affect it. Reflect on it and just move on because people’s opinions on whether you are black or Pakistani enough doesn’t change your reality it’s just another opinion out there.

First, love how you both communicate. Wishing you all the happiness in the world. I know the idea that you can be excluded from marrying someone, working or living someplace because of your race is painful. But we're living in a world shaped by racism (like the countries sizes on the map). Having parents affected by racism and having experienced it yourselves, are examples of who close we still are to it. I agree you should love who want, but if women from your culture feel triggered. I understand that too, they not looking at your husband personally; that would be strange. They're just reacting to the pain of the situation they've find themselves in. Racism for mixed race people "you're neither fish nor fowl" etc.....the gift that keeps on giving...(I'm Irish/Indian, with Irish/Indian/Pakistani children).
I tend to get more racism from Indians and Pakistanis than I do from anyone else.
I think if you are lucky enough to find the person that seems right for you, then skin colour is irrelevant.
I got a lot of hostility from my ex's Muslim family, even though I was willing to find out more about Islam and consider converting. The main objection seemed to be that my father's family were Indian and Sikh.
I guess you represented everything they were not.. I mean in terms of your character and conduct. I bet your children are gorgeous inside and out! 😊

I totally get where Sufyan is coming from when he says it hit him when he realised his kids wouldnt be black, sometimes I think about my future kids being half Turkish half Indian and it feels so so odd. Like your offspring is supposed to be a part of your own self but half of them will be something completely foreign to you. Not foreign in terms of familiarity maybe because that's your spouse's country but foreign in terms of everything else. But then again what even is the significance of ethnicity or race? They will be half you and half the person you love, and that sounds perfect :)

Its a valid point but I think seeing as his mum is Pakistani he felt more of a familiarity toward her. And they clearly put faith above ethnicity which is more important.
It’s possible. Could have been a range of things. After all dad married mum and she was the first Pakistani lady he’d ever met. Love is an interesting topic..
