The horror in YT creators' faces has brought so many people joy and horror. And spoiler, it gets...so...much...worse. Never watched the show, but based on reactions, TLC knew what they were doing 100%.
So I had a friend who worked on this show and apparently what they were told was that the sons would be there to help plan dates and other things, but not that they would be the only dating pool

I saw the casting call for MILF Manor and the way they had the email was, "DO YOU LIKE DATING OLDER WOMEN? How would you like to go to a country and date." and the MILF' email read as "Are you an older woman that's looking for love? Do you like younger men? How would you like to go to a country and date?"

I think the op was referring to the uneven power dynamics that can be found in large age gap relationships, which can be considered abuse. If the person then uses that power to coerce the other to have sex or heck even harass them in a sexual manor (ie unwanted touching and the like), that is sexual abuse. Abuse is not restricted to age.
Agreed. I hate this. Nothing wrong with may/December romances when the power balance is there, but this is playing up the worst of this trope instead of normalizing older women dating younger men.

Oh my gods I am equal parts repulsed and fascinated, but also watching your react videos is the only way I can realatively sanely interact with that source material. I thank you for your sacrifice.
My SO was in an age gap relationship before we got together. The gap was over ten years apart, with her being older. He's still dealing with a lot of trauma from the emotional abuse and manipulation his ex put him through. She was in her thirties trying to date a guy who had just graduated high school. His first real relationship so of course no experience to tell that he was being emotionally abused.
That's one of the biggest red flags for me when I hear someone only wants to date younger than their own age. When someone says that, all I can hear is "I want a partner whose inexperience will make them easier to control, who won't know when they're being treated poorly in a relationship."
If both people are over thirty then their age difference isn't my business.
Yeah, this isnât something I can get behind. My fiancĂ© is 12 years older than me, met me when I was 25 and neither of us were looking for anything. People who look at relationships as if thereâs no individuality or nuance to a situation generally arenât very intelligent. Iâve been abused by people my age and people older than me. Iâve been treated well by people older than me. Amazingly, it depended on the person and the situation.

@@starcrysis23 I'd say your case is a bit different because presumably your partner wasn't intentionally seeking out a much younger partner, and you also weren't fresh out of high school with presumably no dating experience. People sometimes do just happen to fall in love with people that are older or younger than them in a context where the power dynamics are lessened or directly addressed and it's more organic (and obviously they're both consenting adults), but it IS important to take into account power dynamics that often exist, especially when you start to go into much larger age differences (15+ years), or very different life stages (like a 30+ year old and someone just out of high school - which is just inherently weird to me tbh). Or when the older person exhibits problematic behavior (only seeking out much younger partners for example). I think people tend to paint with broad brushes with topics like this - like all age difference relationships are creepy and wrong, or age is nothing but a number so it never matters. When in reality, like you said, nuance is important. But that also includes thinking about power dynamics and what is more or less likely to be the case in situations like this.
I'd like to point out that they probably didnt sign up for a show called "MILF Manor." From what they say in the show and things I've heard about other shows, it sounds like they would have applied to the network to be put on whatever dating show the network wants, and they might not have known what the show was going to be called until after it was filmed.
I swear Amanda was more horrified by this than when she watched Human Centipede.

Its like they're trying to make this as gross as possible. Older women being predatory about younger men, cemented by the idea that these guys aren't told that the women they're gonna be dating are older, also worse that they force the idea of including their mothers on this, since they're supposedly unaware of it. I know its probably faked, it wouldn't surprise me if all these people were just actors hired to pretend this is a dating show, but they're making sure everything is as gross as possible, because if its not faked, that means they threw these guys' consent out the window, and if it IS faked, why are they treating this as normal?
