He could never reproduce that exact sound even trying to buy other amplifiers and dropping them on purpose. ‘Trigger,’ gets his own seat on any plane Willie flies on. Ways I know Willie Nelson performed this live:
    It's a Midnight Special video. Midnight Special was a TV show that ran every Friday night from 1973 through 1981. They didn't allow lipsyncing on the show, that is, the performances were always live.
    Also, I am very familiar with Willie Nelson's recorded version of Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain. This version is similar, but there are subtle differences.
    Willie brings subtlety and restraint to this performance. It's one of the things that makes it so effective. It reminds me of the old saying, "If you want someone to listen to you, whisper."

    • @randall-king
      @randall-king Před 3 lety +2

      You touched on what I was going to mention. You can know if a performance is lip synced because if you hear the same single on the radio over and over every day, you soon memorize every part-the drums, the vocals, the bass line, etc. You recognize when you watch a performance and the music *exactly* matches what you’ve heard daily from your radio. A live performance, even if they tried to play it the same, would have subtle differences.
      You don’t have to be an expert to catch this. Just watch a lot of “live” music performances and listen to a lot of recorded music. You can’t help but notice.

Willie has a way of looking at and interacting with you that causes you to feel as if what you’re saying the most important thing to him. I’ve seen him perform countless times over the years and he is always great. I hadn’t seen him for five or six years and attended a show in Lubbock. He spotted me, grinned, nodded and broke into a smile then went on with the show. His inner peace fills the room regardless the size.

    Willie was a session musician, song writer and performer. His behind the beat vocal style was unique. Live, he seldom did a song exactly the same way twice. Coupled with the sound of "Trigger's" gut strings, Willie's sound was unmistakable. Ironically, although Willie had written many songs that charted and even became hits for other artists, "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain", his first #1 hit, was written by Fred Rose in 1945. Willie won a Grammy for his performance of the song and along with the launch of "Outlaw" country music - the rest is history.

    By itself, this is a beautiful song. In context with the rest of the album, the meaning changes. The lost love he's crying for is his wife. She ran off and when he found her with another man, he killed them both, then wandered the land mourning her until he found a new love of his own. Even if you don't do a reaction for it. 1) In the area of the video where you were trying to explain Willie's natural and "uneffected" stage presence, you actually said it better than you thought.
    Willie is a natural performer, and he doesn't need any special effects to help him.
    He could sing by himself on stage, with no backup. Sitting on a stool, with his guitar, under a single light bulb, and people would listen to him, and give him a standing ovation, in the largest concert hall in the world.
    2) Lots of singers and groups back then, especially on TV shows, and especially live TV shows, performed to their own recordings. They generally did so because they were required to I think. Because, I assume, it was live, and in many cases, going out on TV live. Or if it was recorded, there was a live audience, and also not much time to redo it if it was not "perfect".
    But this was live, don't worry.

He's one of the original founders of the sub-genre known as "Outlaw Country" along with Merle Haggard (and someone else I don't remember right now, maybe Waylon Jennings?) and I enjoy almost everything that genre has produced. I suggest "Pancho and Lefty" for another taste of this style. As far as performers lip-syncing their performances; I think that was common in television and movies up until the early 70s. Then the performers rebelled and I don't believe it is common now.

      Other famous Outlaw artists are Ray Wiley Hubbard and Robert Earl Keen. Robert Earl Keen wrote much of the Outlaw music that others performed. On vocal effects from, especially, TV, the problem is often that the vocal effects are added AFTER an artist’s performance in POST-production. This is often done WITHOUT the artist’s knowledge, desire or permission. Switching genres to prove the point, watch Disturbed’s performance of ‘Sound of Silence’ on the Conan show. There ARE vocal effects added AFTER the performance but the lead singer, David Draiman is a sound engineer and would neither want nor need those effects added. It’s just something the producers of the shows do to produce what they think is the best sound.

    He has such a haunting voice. Please react to Always On My Mind. Also he did a duet with Ray Charles called Seven Spanish Angels. Great songs

    Someone is trying to confuse you by mentioning playback in connection with Willie Nelson. Having seen him play live, including a solo concert in which he played for two and a half hours, as well as with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson as The Highwaymen, I can vouch for the fact that no playback is involved in Willie's live performances. What I was particularly impressed with on seeing him was what a fantastic guitar player he is. He demonstrates some of that on this video. I'm so pleased you have chosen some of the greatest country singers for your reaction videos - Willie, Dolly and Kenny and I'm really looking forward to seeing your reaction to the beautiful Always On My Mind.

    If there was ever an American icon, it would have to be Willie Nelson & his music. Willie started out as song writer. He has written some of the most popular song of all time. Do some research and discover the world of Willie Nelson. Enjoy. 🤗

    Willie’s voice is real, I don’t think he needs to do playback, those are reserved for less than stellar performances. He’s an icon.

  • @scottlaplantelaplante990

    I see that this particular video is from a performance from the TV program Midnight Special. These were live performances. The Midnight Special ran from the early 70s to the early 80s. This was the TV program to be on during this time for all of the popular bands and singers. If you search youtube for Midnight Special, you will find them. My favorite music!!!

    His guitar is older than I am and I'm 70! He lives about 40 miles from me. On a Ranch in Tx. He has a unique voice and his guitar is just as unique. I'm surprised it lasted that long! He is a special artist! Always been a fan. Thank you for reacting! Your English is getting better too! But I loved hearing you talk when you first jumped on You Tube. Stay Safe!

    You can tell it's live because he doesn't sing the song the same way as the recording, but you have to know both to tell the difference. Some people do lip sync to their recordings on stage, but most actually sing live in their performances. However, if the song is from a television performance, it's often the other way around, live performances are rare and they are usually lip syncing to a pre-recorded version of the song.

  • @bingobillable
    @bingobillable Před 3 lety +3

    This was definitely live. As a general rule if the artists are performing on stage I’d probably live. Obviously, there are going to be exceptions. When you see a performance in the country side, it is generally a music video where the performance was recorded in a studio. Many performances can be found both live and as music video. For example, many of Pentatonix videos are not live, but they take great pleasure in being able to perform them equally well live onstage.

    If you look by his right hand, be low the strings, you will see a hole in the wood of his guitar, He has played that guitar for so long, his pick, made the hole.

    Willie Nelson is famous for two things; his voice and the fact that he can smoke anyone under the table. Even Snoop Dog says Willie can smoke him under the table.

  • @thomasarussellsr

    I would find it extremely hard to believe that Willie ever lip-synced any performance in his career. He was known on an occasion or two to perform a rough performance and appologise for being under the weather, but you could hear it in his voice when he felt a bit off. I'd love to see you do more Willie, more Shania, and look into some of Willie's outlaw friends, (listed in other comments). Thanks again for being so forthright and honest with how you feel and think about what you review and what is going on around you and the channel.
    Peace, love, and harmony -wishes for you and your life, my friend.

    Mon couer, you have now discovered and reacted to one of the two most important artists to my hometown , Austin, TX. The road nearest the City Hall was renamed Willie Nelson Blvd. it is right on the Colorado River that divides our town North & South. From the town hall, if you look across the river, you can see a statue of Stevie Ray Vaughan. He is the other artist most important to Austin. Please, please, pleas, watch and review Stevie Ray Vaughan, ‘Texas Flood’ is the best to start.
