    Base subjobs only:
    Primrose - Scholar (Second Wind means spamming high damage magic free)
    H'aanit - Thief (High damage AoE, Steal SP allows spamming)
    Olberic - Apothecary (Self healing for Challenges, inspiration for spamming)
    Tressa - Warrior (Sidestep + Encite)
    Therion - Hunter (reverse H'aanit)
    Cyrus - Cleric (High Magic Defense means good healing, Light damage)
    Alfyn - Merchant (Donate BP bot, Sidestep during bosses so I can always Vivify)
    Ophilia - Dancer (Buff bot)

    I think it’s a terrible idea to wait until 20 for a secondary job simply because you lose nothing by going into it
    And you can get skills for both at the same time
    So there is no reason to really wait

    People please make therion a warrior. He becomes an evasive tank who can use incite to tank for the whole team. Level slash gives him a powerful Aoe attack that can be used for breaking. And the 50 strength plus surpassing power. Ive been doing 25000 damage to everyone with an abided therion using aebers reckoning on an armor corrosive foe. I have never seen anyone do that much damage.
    Edit:This is a level 40 therion btw
    Please make therion an offensive tank rather than another support. If you want a support use tressa, ophillia, prim or alfyn.

      I feel like therion is better with runelord, since therion mostly uses normal attacks/armor/attack debuffs. Tressa is a good support role but also a great offensive character because if you spam veteran soldiers like i do, you can do a lot of damage with Tressa

      @malusvir Před 5 lety +12

      Agreed. People look at Primrose's skill list and write her off as a buffer, but they fail to realize her elemental attack stat is nearly as high as Cyrus, with enough speed to break enemy defenses at the beginning of the round instead of the end. And after you unlock Sorcerer, Cyrus doesn't gain nearly as much by doubling down with more of the same types of spells that he already has.

    Therion can become REALLY good when used correctly! If you give him the merchant as his second, not only can he rest now, but he can also use steal sp! Combined with share sp if another gets low, that’s very useful. Plus, with high attack power, your getting a LOT of sp for every steal sp you use. Of course with super high evasion, 50% of the time he won’t even get hit, which makes him not have to heal most of the time, again saving sp!

    Recommending that someone train in a specific class to gain the support skills is one thing, but to recommend that class long term for a character is another. This should be specified.

    Cyrus is terrible with Axes/Inspiration since his strength is the lowest in the party.
    H'annit warrior is very versatile because she now has a divine damage skill for both single and multi-target. Abide also gives her the ability to self-buff her strength which she can't normally do.

    Merchant Primrose is a Support Goddess. With her high speed she can just BP up allies at the best times, then when she is finally ready you use the Dancer Divine skill. Give it to herself for massive boosts for the party, Or give it to a Cleric and have them mass cast Magic Reflectors and watch as magic based bosses start killing themselves. As a scholar she basically helps Nuke the board super fast as a Magic Sweeper.

    I have a question. Does the character you picked at the beginning of the game affect which second job classes you pick for the other characters? For example, I started with the Scholar (Cyrus) and since he has to be in the party, does it make sense to use Scholar as a second job class for the other members since his abilities will always be there? Thanks for any help you can give on this question.

  • @yannickluecker3983
    @yannickluecker3983 Před 5 lety +1

    Hey, on your video of who to pick (rogue side), I challenged myself to start off as Primrose. Well, as of right now (I sadly didn't have all the time in the world to play) I'm at chapter 2 of Therion's story with a full party and Primrose is my main magic damage dealer and ultra tanky somehow.
    I like to let Primrose do a self-buff setup and have the others break everyone, then I wipe out all enemies at once with Night Ode at something close to 3000 damage to everyone. And those numbers were on Level 19.
    Admittedly, I immediately went for a mostly physical character (Therion) after Primrose's prologue, but he hasn't even come close to closing the gap in damage output between himself and Primrose yet.
    The reason for all of that is, of course, overgrinding in Primrose's prologue and blatant favoratism in terms of equipment, but it's working out rather well right now with a mostly magic based party :D

    • @jessespeers5357
      @jessespeers5357 Před 5 lety

      Therion isn't the best character for damage anyways. He is a thief, not a warrior nor assassin.

  • @SamiGerwick
    @SamiGerwick Před 5 lety +1

    I am using Primrose as a scholar and her initial elemental attack stat is already quite high. Equip her with the right gear and watch the high numbers roll. Second Wind allows her to gain SP every turn (great for a Scholar), and once able to add in SP Saver from the merchant class, and you basically never have to worry about SP again.

    • @WishfulGamer
      @WishfulGamer  Před 5 lety

      Many are saying this, I’m surprised I didn’t anticipate how amazing she is as an attacker. I finished Cyrus’s story and swapped him out for primrose/scholar and I’m super impressed so far.

  • @Haseo13darkness
    @Haseo13darkness Před 5 lety +39

    I actually disagree that Primrose is” the ultimate buff character”
    Because she can only do one buff per turn which is not a problem for random encounters but in boss battles it sucks and it takes too long to get buffs up on everyone.
    And getting her to a point where she can buff your entire party in one go (via dancer divine skill) either takes 7 turns of waiting/doing other action to save boost points, or 2 turns while expending 2 other character’s turns to use resources on her.
    I feel like the dancer (main or sub) is best at boosting/buffing itself rather then trying to buff your party and it’s great on characters/classes that already have a near perfect kit and just need a way to get some extra damage or survivability.
    If you care about the opinion I’ve come to based on what I’ve tested, I’d say the best 2nd job picks for everyone in octopath is:
    Primrose - Scholar/Thief/Sorcerer/Starseer/Runelord
    Therion - Cleric/Warrior/Merchant/Hunter/Starseer/Warmaster/Sorcerer/RuneLord/Apothecary
    Alfyn - Cleric/Merchant/Dancer/Thief
    Tressa - Hunter/Warrior/Scholar/Runelord/Warmaster/Thief
    Cyrus - Merchant/Dancer/Starseer/Cleric
    H’aanit - Warrior/Warmaster/Dancer
    Olberic - Warmaster/Runelord/Cleric/Apothecary/Thief
    Ophelia - Starseer/Apothecary/Sorcerer
    I can explain these choices, if anyone cares to know.
    I know that I’m not some popular youtuber or analyst that people care to hear the opinions of.

      Why not Sorceror on Cyrus?

    • @Haseo13darkness
      @Haseo13darkness Před 5 lety +5

      Wesley Anthonisz
      Mostly because Sorc doesn’t do anything that Cyrus’s base kit doesn’t already do.
      All sorc does on Cyrus is make his base job useless by giving an extra hit on the elements he already has, and gives him access to Light/Dark/wind All of which can be gotten from other jobs that give other and better benefits.
      And sorc gives Magic crit, but crits are
      only a 25% DMG increase and Cyrus has no issue hitting the dmg cap without crits.
      Merchant allows him to be self sufficient in his mana consumption and regeneration and cure himself of status effects not named silence while giving him a bit of utility and 2 more break options in the physical weapons merchant provides plus access to Wind magic.
      Dancer allows him to buff himself or allies in 4 different areas, gives access to dark magic and daggers while also providing some MUCH needed speed and evasion.
      Starseer’s base skill allows him to hit all 3 of the elements he’s missing at one time, and provides BP battery utility and regen for long fights.
      I could go on if you want me to explain each class in detail, but the short is Sorc doesn’t provide him anything he needs out side of access to Light/Dark/Wind all of which can be obtained from other sources with better utility.

      @Haseo13darkness Před 5 lety +2

      More or less the same, but I suppose that Sorc could be faster at killing things due to getting 3 hits out of his spells instead of 1-2.
      But I’m unsure if it’s really needed, I also advise against having once source of DMG and that source is magic...
      Magic can be reflected by some later bosses.

    Olberic is my protagonist and I think he is probably a little over powered because when buffed his Holy attack could max damage enemys in chapter 2. Im in chapter 3 right now, he is level 45 and he has 500 attack

    So when you do you unlock secondary classes? I'm playing my third characters opening story now (chose H'aanit first then found Cyrus and Ophelia). Is it when you get all eight?

  • @anthonydelfino6171
    @anthonydelfino6171 Před 5 lety +1

    Having picked Therion for my primary traveler, I found it was good to set his secondary job as hunter. It provides him decent stat buffs as well as giving him access to four weapon types and two elements, but additionally the hunter support skills really feel in line with his character. I especially like second serving for him and am working to unlock patience.

      Funny, I was putting H’annit as a Thief Secondary for a while for this same reason!

  • @shantaehalf-geniehero4318

    Helpful video! Also I kinda got a question if anyone can answer. I started with H’aanit the hunter but I grabbed everyone so I didn’t leave anyone behind and wanted to experience their stories, was this a bad decision of me? c:

    • @WishfulGamer
      @WishfulGamer  Před 5 lety +2

      Luigipokemaster 1, I did the same exact thing. Experiencing everyone’s stories is the best way to level up without grinding! Also, once you complete your main party member’s story, you can swap them out of your party. So if you don’t like H’annit, don’t worry!

    Im using ophilia with scholar second class....with passives elemental augmentation ...inner strength....second wind....sp saver...with accessory and staff ...i got 669 elemental ATTACK...and with that i can cast anyspell for free except heal more(cost 1sp) and revive/aelfrics auspices since i get 11sp back each turn witch basicly gives me unlimitied sp with her and very strong healing and damaging spells for free ... my other party members setups are replies to this post

    • @dethraid
      @dethraid Před 5 lety

      Primrose with apothecary second job...passives resist ailments...eye for an eye...second wind and encore.. so i can buff others and heal when needed and have basicly unlimited sp with her too as i get 7sp back each turn and her buffs cost 4

    • @dethraid
      @dethraid Před 5 lety

      With olberic currently using thief second class but gonna change that later...passives eye for an eye.... summon strength... endure.... and second wind..... i gain back 12 sp a turn so i can use most of his skills for free why attack one creature with a sword attack when i can hit all of them with level slash and gain 3sp while doing it......and with 222sp i can use his higher cost sp skills alot and instead of using items to gain sp back i just use lower sp skills for a bit and gain it back

    • @dethraid
      @dethraid Před 5 lety

      Tressa with hunter second class and passives second serving... grows on trees... second wind...sp saver i get 5 sp back per turn with her current 100sp so i can use alot of her skills for free and when i use high sp skills too much i can rest or just use some normal attacks and deal some damage and get sp back

    • @dethraid
      @dethraid Před 5 lety

      This gives me decent weapons diversity overall and one char that has light...fire...lightning.....and ice spells one of each the others with lightning fire and ice spell one with dark spells and one with wind spells.... and instead of using basic attacks to find weaknesses i just use skill that hit all of the enemies to find all there weaknessess faster since i can cast them for free sp effectively in ophilia case i use the cheaper spells that hit all enemies and gain sp back more then spent..always using special attacks rather then regular attacks makes more damage output faster breaks on enemeys and insane sustainability

    • @dethraid
      @dethraid Před 5 lety

      Got alot of options....and can do crazy stuff like currently with olberic hp steal.....if the enemy is weak to daggers thats 2 hits closer to breaking the enemy .. dealing some damage healing me and i gain 12sp so i effectively gain 6sp instead of spending 6sp and gain a boost point all in one action....

    Primrose has awful Elemental Defense, thus she does not make a very good Cleric. Shame though cus it would fit her well as a support character.
    She makes a much better Scholar as she has very high Elemental Attack. It's insane that you wouldn't recommend that class for her. Awful, awful video, worst I've seen yet from you.
