- Roger Federer powered his way through to the quarterfinals of US Open 2019 - seeing off Dan Evans and No. 15 seed David Goffin in consecutive straight sets - in which he dropped a combined nine games! Next up he faced Grigor Dimitrov in an electric atmosphere with tennis worthy of a championship match - as five riveting and dramatic sets gave a packed Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd all that they came for - and more!

Finally, we have Fegal in the US Open. It's been a long time coming, but these two legends have finally faced each other in this slam.
Haha
The performance against Goffin was so brutal and devastating .
Felt bad for Federer in the QF as luck and his body didn't favour him.
Hopefully he'll be back with a bang .
Looking forward to see Federer back .
I wish you were right...:(
@@jeremie2020 What isn't right?
remember djokovic is still there
Federer surprisingly played better under the sun than under the roof in the night session.
Yes, he's struggled with the humidity and injury at the USOPEN the last 2 to 3 years. If he returns next year I expect he'll try different preparation post Wimbledon 🤞
There is no proper ventilation in US open and Roger is struggling to cope with that considering his age.. Something bothers him in night session. USO have made a big mess of it by almost making like a indoor court.. If u see carefully, he played well under the sun in 2018, 19 and struggled like anything in night sessions.. When the conditions are hotter, the courts plays fast than in night which is a clear advantage for Roger
I was looking forward to this ! I want tennis to be back
I would love to see Roger win another US Open
I think it's very difficult now for him
you are talking about 2021.....will be still around at that time ???
@@thalaivarsteve yes 2021. He will still be around trust me
Same here. Wimbledon as well
He can play yet. His style allows him to play in a great level even at his age so he could win another.
I imagine how Roger would do if the US Open courts were as fast as they were 10+ years ago. We saw a glimpse of that at 2017 Shanghai where he flamed Nadal mainly because the court had a 99 speed rating. Meanwhile even Wimbledon is like 70 or lower, slower than lots of hard courts.
Roger last won US Open is 2008 and Rolland garros in 2009..Rafa last won Melbourne is 2009 and Wimbledon in 2010..
And Djokovic won all in the last 4 years
Crazy to think that it will be 12 years without another victory in NY for Roger...:( Yet this surface suits his game.
Therka Marka uhhhhhh no it isn’t.... it’s the exact opposite that he can already play at such a high level at 40..... you need to change that mindset my friend. Nothing embarrassing about it
@Therka Marka What a stupid comment...it's so "embarrasing" that he's still in the top 5 (4th), had a couple of match points for a 21st GS last year before getting finally robbed the victory at Wimbledon and is still used to being in the quarters/semis and even better in the main tournaments. To me, you're saying that because despite his age, you still see El Maestro as a big threat for anybody on any given day, and you're defintely right in thinking so as he's still playing some great tennis...and hopefully, he still has some gas in the tank for more.;)
‘Difference is’. Federer reached the final of every slam at least once from 2010-2019. Made the semis at RG two years ago and could have won the US Open in 2017 had he not handed Del Potro the third set in the QF... Federer loves a good joke in NYC.
I was surprised Nadal didn't give him more trouble in the first round.
O wait
Lol he‘s Nadal
Nagal
@@kevj745 he knows that,he thinks it's funny🤣
Did you edit because you literally thought Nadal? Coz that would make it even funnier :)
It's so beautiful to watch when hes hitting clean and hard.
Yeeeessss!!! Love this even though these are reruns. We alllll NEED this in quarantine!!!!
I didn't like the 5th set of the last match, but Roger at his age is still hold his own.
Come on Roger get at least 1 GS in 2021.>>>>
He was injured in his lumbar.
@@masters.1000 stop always trying to find a reason when federer loose, he lost thats the point no need to find a explanation because its federer
He's made marked improvements since then. The 5-set marathon wins against Millman and Sandgren should give you good confidence in him being able to last those lengthy tests despite him nearing 40.
Bug de l'An 2020 He really was injured in that match though. He rarely gets injured, so when it happens, people are naturally gonna point it out.
True that.>>>
Let me just say this: Roger should have won this tournament. Novak retiring against Stan opened up the draw, he had a winning record against both Dimitrov and Medvedev, and he hadn't lost to Rafa on a hard court since 2014. But once again he hurt his back and had problems with the temperature in the stadium, for the third straight year. Something tells me that he just doesn't condition himself enough for New York, that's why he always gets hurt or suffers from heat exhaustion.
Depends US open hard court is slow compared to AO and Rafa has been great on US open hard court surface so it wouldve been either way
Should have won, biggest bs I have ever heard
Roger wasn't playing some great tennis since the very beginning of the tournament (not to mention his tragic loss at Wimbledon which was surely still through his mind), he didn't feel the ball well and his boidy language wasn't good, too slow.
00:35 Rafael Nagal?
lol
Sad to see the great man's body break down in the fifth like that. US Open is a brutal tournament like the French, only the fittest can win it.
Roger is really fit. It’s just his back was injured
The way he played against goffin i though he was invisible ! So Sad...hope he will find a super level in 2021
At first I thought it was a typo : Federer vs. Nagal lmao
This US Open was so promising. So disappointing after Dimitrov loss.
Nice shoot
las unicas 2 cosas que extaño en la pandemia ver buen tenis y bailar salsa,en mi Cali bella...jajaja
In AO2021 he'll back strong to win and more.
he wont come back , he will announce his retirement in september or october you'll see!
Winning a grand slam is just too much to ask from him now
Zaid Basri i feel like its unfair to say that after he was one point away from winning wimbledon. dont get me wrong he choked big time but he obviously still has it in him. maybe if he doesnt get to the final in any 2021 grand slam i will agree with you, but fed is still a favorite and a very big threat at any grand slam
@@averyhoppes no doubt he's still the best in this business n if by any chance Rafa and Novak( especially Novak) get knocked out early in the tournament Federer is the fav without a doubt
Goat
The way ESPN put it on the bottom line made it look like Fed vs Nadal, so imagine thinking your watching Nadal Federer and then it’s just some random guy you’ve never heard of
1:00 Young Federer would have gotten that last shot.
00:29 Nick Nolte?
damn, this court is really slow .
I want to see Federer win the US again just to see how the crowd would react.
Fed is playing poorly under the lights at us open for the last 2 3 years. Here again the two good matches he had were day matches
No proper ventilation after they closed the roof... May be that is bothering him in night session.. I have never seen him sweat like he had in millman match.. The last time he sweat a lot was in 2008 AO against tipsarevic
00:00 lmaoo what was that screamm
Watching this now, I realized Roger had problems right from the start of the tournament, his attitude was painful
It's not Nadal but it's NAgaL?🤔
he may have lost to dimitrov but he will always be the 🐑
That's a sheep
Nadal GOAT is, Roger sheep is.
you mean Roger *has* sheep
He just has some really bad luck with this event... Couldn't finish it properly in the last three events due to injuries, and even missed it in 2016.
Injuries? 😂😂😂😂 Dimitrov just played better. In 2018 Millman distroyed him. In 2017 delpotro destroyed him. In 2015 djokovic distroyed him. In 2014 cilic distroyed him. In 2013 Robredo distroyed him. In 2012 berdych distroyed him. And in 2010 and 2011 he chocked against djokovic. In 2009 he chocked against delpotro. I dont Think is bad luck, the other players played better. He will never win here again
Diego Pérez 2013, 2017 & 2019 he had a back injury at the USO, the rest of them yes I agree he was just outplayed.
Edit: And I also agree he’s not gonna win here again. Australia & obviously London are his best chances.
Press and Hold ! Eh I could see him winning Wimbledon again at least. He was really close last time
👍🏿👍👍🏼👍🏾🇨🇭
We wont see federer agfain its over im pretty sure he will announce his retirement in september or october!! even if he comes back in 2021 it would have been almost a year without playing!
lol he made it to the semis of the 2020 aussie open and is literally 4th in the world, why on earth would he retire
I'm looking at the audience and I just think, everything they're doing is soo American. I can't pinpoint what it is but it just is.
He probably would've won this had he won the Wimbledon match against Novak, he just seemed irritated throughout the tournament.
He got injured in the back against Dimitrov.
Wimbledon final destroyed his confidence, his level from Indian Wells through Wimbledon was way higher than the rest of 2019.
@@masters.1000 I don't think an injured player can play a 3 hour match while wining 2 sets, you can say he was hurt, his back was causing him some problems but it wasn't a full on injury, pretty much like Novak, in his match with Stan he was hurt but it wasn't an actual injury since almost won the second set.
@@sasook Yeah, it felt like he didn't want to play, he was too burnt out.
Would’ve lost to Nadal
Did *not* play very well at this tournament
A tournament that he could have won. Such a disappointment
Olderer humillated, Rafa winning the whole thing. That's life🤣🤣
You should be quiet. Your Rafa has been humiliated by Fed in every match since 2015

@@toxicboardgaymer Oh yeah? Wimbledon semis? 😂
@@toxicboardgaymer Lol, once in 5 years. All Federer needed was a racket change and Nadal disappears from his danger list.
@@toxicboardgaymer oh sure, wimbledon semifinals?
