Hi guys! Their shows are typically 2+ hours long at this level (no support bands, no encores - and sorry, no moshpits). This show was 3.5 hours long! I've seen them live four times and they blew the roof off every time! Best live band I have ever witnessed (I'm 58 from the UK and seen the best). They tour abroad extensively, they toured the US last year and the year before.

They have been to the US several times. The most recent year was 2023 twice (May and August). They typically performed at venues with 1000~2000 capacity and sold them out.

This show was a one-man show of 33 songs (all original songs) for 3.5 hours. The lead guitar and bass are the focus of attention, but please also feel the greatness of the drums. Currently a world-class group. Please enjoy other great songs as well.

Band-Maid concerts ARE are the most fun you can have and still be legal. Even standing in queue is enjoyable. Everybody there is talking to each other like old friends, mostly about the genius of Band-Maid, while the anticipation builds towards showtime. I was telling one young man in line for the DC show about having to drive 5 1/2hrs just to be there, and then he came back with "I rode the Amtrak from Indiana to be here. It took 12 hours." YOU WIN!

In an interview, Saiki (lead singer) explained about the "?" mark in the title of this song. When Saiki wrote the lyrics, she wanted to use the phrase "I hate you". She decided the title to be "HATE", and then she realized that "HATE" could be read "はて" in Japanese. Because "はて" is typically used in question, she put "?" to make the title "HATE?". I'm sure that Saiki was smiling a lot when she decided on this title with "?" because she guessed that English speaking fans would be puzzled by it.
"はて?" can be translated as "What?"

US tour...there were in the states in 2022 and a split tour in 2023. If you have the opportunity, even if it means a road trip, it would be totally worth it. You will leave in total awe, and their MC's are extremely entertaining. I saw them multiple time in 2022, 2023 and several times this year in Japan. I was at this show! Amazing! This was song 27 of 33 in a concert which lasted 3 hrs and 40 minutes. No opening act. Just the Maids...start to finish. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
They have a diverse portfolio, so maybe try a two-for with "Manners" and "Black Hole" Live Online Okyu-ji. You think "Hate?" is groovy...check out "Manners". Then buckle up your seat belts...if "Hate?" had you speeding down the highway...welcome to the Autobahn...currently their fastest BPM song in their catalog. Enjoy!

They toured the US in fall of 2022 and again in 2023. I travelled to multiple cities to see them, I have never done that for any other band, because this band is so incredible and fun live. Among themselves they are each other's best friends. (Isn't it a bummer when one of the bands you like, you find out they hate each other?). There are no egos in this band and everyone gets time to shine. Also, the Madiacs (Band Maid fans) are great. I have met so many great people and made new friends with people across this country because like me, they went to multiple show, so you get to know them.

THE best Hard Rock band on Earth. This was the 27th song of their 33 song setlist and the second call-and-response performance of the night - the other is DON'T YOU TELL ME, which is on their channel too, though here MISA on bass plays the call and Kanami on lead responds, where it's the other way around on DYTM. Akane the drummer is essential to both performances but get's a little overlooked in the dazzling guitar displays. PS Unlike certain Bands' management and record companies (yes, Amuse, I do mean you) Band-Maid never block any reactions to stuff from their YT channel. They're nice like that.

They shine their best live and you are right, they seem to have fun when they play and are very thankful for their fans. Their music range from near metal to beautiful ballads. Their stage presence, energy and joy are unrivaled and performs at a level most other bands only dreams of achieving. Freedom (official live video) is the "fun" song with a nice drum solo that'll have you grinning from ear to ear. Moratorium, Play, Domination, No God, Puzzle (official live vids) are all fan favorites. Shambles, Blooming, DIce, Influencer don't have official live videos but the MVs are definitely worth checking out. Until next time...Cheers!

Good morning dear US citizen, yes there is a very big music rock metal scene outside the USA. The greater Tokyo area has about 40 million inhabitants. You can tour through the city from hall to hall and always reach new audiences. Also, many bands are more popular and better known in their home country than overseas.
These young ladies are around 30, not newcomers to the stage. All well trained on their instruments, unlike many western bands.

  • @Prober61

Hate? is popular now because of the "Battle" (I really don't like that term) but they have around 125 songs over 10 years and they're all so good. When they come to the states they do small venues but sell them out. I'll copy and paste a comment I made elsewhere:
Band-Maids Genre is Band-Maid. Rock, Metal, Pop, Alt, Prog, Punk, with Jazz and Blues for sprinkles. Different is another song they wrote for an anime.
Miku Kobato: Red rose, Rhythm guitar and backup vocals. Started the band. Only started guitar when the first 4 members (her included) decided she shouldn't sing lead. She found
Kanami Tono: Lead guitarist, main composer, riff master. Kanami writes most of their songs. She previously worked with, and is friends with
Akane Hirose: Drummer extraordinaire. Never misses a beat even when the othere try to mess her up. Akane attended the Tokyo School of music and did some work with
MISA: Bad ass barefoot bass assassin. MISA writes a lot of her bass lines She likes her whisky!
Together these four played a few sets before they decided they needed a stronger singer. Enter
Saiki Atsumi: The Queen. She is the youngest of the group and a strong front woman.
Together they have around 125 songs and just celebrated 10 years together. If you want harder, try Different or Rinne. About Us is a ballad written for the fans during covid, Endless Story closes out a lot of shows. Blooming, Glory, Dice Manners are all good MVs but they smash it live.We won't mention Band-Maiko yet. Save that for later.
    Enjoy gents.

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this very performance at the venue on Nov.26, last year. Very exciting 3-hour-40-minute-long show with 33-song setlist. (Happy fatigue thereafter 😄)
Just so you know, this song was played at last year's Lollapalooza festival in Chicago.
We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Seen them live in Chicago, Nashville and Salt Lake City. Best live show I have ever seen and each time they got better. This band has been evolving for 10 years. They know no boundaries and can't be tied down to just one genre. I believe two of the members, Misa (bass) and Akane (drummer) went to the Tokyo school of music and trained in classical Jazz although, if you listen to the interviews, their influences are wide and eclectic - Smashing Pumpkins, Deep Purple, Santana, etc...

I have seen so many great bands, but they are right there with my best - Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Guns N Roses. Great job you guys. The first time through a Band-Maid song can be overwhelming just because of how much is going on - but that's also one of things that make them so awesome. The same song doesn't get old - it just keeps getting better as you catch everything. My fave band for 5 plus years now! And for your next one, keeping in mind that you WILL need subs on to get the most of it, and knowing it's the last song of a 3 plus hour long show to commemorate their tenth anniversary together, check out the concert closer Endless Story Offical LIVE - slower and more emotional, but necessary viewing IMO, and you'll get a better idea of their powerhouse lead vocalist Saiki.

Nice that you are getting into Band Maid. Right now Band Maid is working on something with a 3 piece Mexican female band called The Warning. You should give them a listen also. Start off with Evolve Live at the MTV Awards or one of their latest Automatic Sun from the Le Porte Festival. I believe you guys will love them.

They may be the best rock group in the world today (I think they are). They are certainly the most creative band since the Beatles, and as you saw, they are top-tier musicians. I saw many of the classic rock bands - Purple, Zeppelin, Queen, Santana, many more, all in their heyday. I’ve seen Band-maid three times and their performances stand up to any of those legendary bands. They've toured North America four times and will likely be back in 2025. Yes, see them even if you have to sell a kidney to get there. And in the U.S., it will be in smaller venues, which is a shame (they should be playing stadiums) but good for the lucky few who get to see them.

That 5-string is a Black Cloud Black Smoker Trad Master Beta J5. The rhythm guitar is a Zemaitus Pigeon, named after Miku. Kanami's lead guitar is a PRS Paul Reed Smith S2 Custom 24-08. The kit is a Tama Star Bubinga Custom built. Their choices of instruments are not bogged down in some old-fashion sense of style, but instead the exactly best instrument for their modern sound. A smart band that is perfectly managed, reviving new takes on a style of hard rock that American producers abandoned to the rest of the world back in the 90s.
Incidentally, you mentioned that people were suggesting that you try Hate, but Hate Live. This is misleading. People are saying that if you review ANY Band Maid song, review a LIVE version because they are always better. This, in fact, seems to be the case for any Japanese band. Apparently they can iron out the wrinkles in their live productions over there.

They did a US tour in 2023, but except at Lollapalooza where they drew 20,000+ people, most of the venues they played were much smaller (1k ~ 2k), since they aren't so well known in the US yet. This video is in Yokohama at the end of their tour, in front of 18,000.

Going into their 11th year together -- with no personnel changes (as a recording act) -- and they have 4 North American tours under their belts (the last in 2 segments). I started listening to them in 2015 and became a full-blown Maidiac in the Summer of 2017; saw them on all of their North American tours, including the initial tour in 2018.

Hey your video came up in my feed so I decided to see what you guys thought of the best band ever. Just be careful though, this is not the only all female Japanese band that kills it. In fact one of them are coming to the US in the near future (Lovebites is the name of that band). I am old enough to have seen Pink Floyd live in the 80s and now 90% of the songs in my playlist that I listen to now are Japanese.

I saw Band Maid in D.C. (no opening act) in 2022. I’ve seen many of the best bands in rock and metal in my 58 years on earth and that was a top-notch show. Up there with the “Yes’ masterworks concert” where Kansas was the opening group. Yeah, the Band Maid show was as impressive and memorable to me as a show with 2 legendary prog-rock bands!
And, as far as fan interaction goes, Band Maid far outstripped any band I’ve ever seen live. You wouldn’t think 5 Japanese women could do that in an English speaking country but they do. They are so damn engaging! To me there is no better active rock band that I know of.
“The Warning”, from Mexico, is my second favorite active band, though, and you need to check them out as well. For several reasons they have greater mainstream popularity than Band Maid, especially in the US. They are playing a show with Band Maid in Japan soon and both groups are releasing new albums this year!

Are so many amazing songs. ANY of their Live stuff is usually a good bet. I think the only Music Videos I prefer are DICE, DIFFERENT and SECRET MAIKO lips, usually because of the mix.

Misa started using a 5-string after the 2nd BM album (?) to allow her to better play songs in E-flat as well as 'concert' (E) and to compliment Kanami (guitar) when she's in drop-D, all on the same bass (ETA >> and maybe some songs actually in D?). You'll often see her down on the bottom frets of that Stygian B-string. ETA 2 >> Misa started off her musical training on an audio engineering course, which is perhaps no surprise - great bass players have to _engineer_ good sound out of their rigs, and it's safe to say Misa gets a great sound out of hers.

The Band-Maid fans are a positive bunch. we are a reflection of the band itself. going to a concert is like hanging out with a few hundred of your friends every one is chill and zero judgment. always a few laughs maybe a few tears. During breaks in the show they will chat with the audience maybe teach us a few Japanese words they'll play pranks on each other. not just Musicians but full on entertainers.

Cool reaction vid. Thanks! So, I saw them in Austin last year. They were amazing. They did like 30 US cities in two different trips. Modest venues, high hundreds to low thousands. It was great. There is a new video by Ohrenje about the lead guitar/songwriter, Kanami. czcams.com/video/lGS5KU2S2D0/video.html. You should react to it. You'll learn a lot about both Band Maid and Kanami's experience in becoming a rock musician. I think it reveals a lot about the girls in current Japanese rock and metal. They mostly started classical piano before grade school and took up rock instruments in high school.

Misa almost never does a “standard” bass. I call her the lead bassist lol. As if others follow her. I shouldn’t say never, she would if the song calls for it. But she’s usually doing something most bassists don’t do. If you want a song that starts strong with drums and bass, watch the MV for Dice. It was my first song from them and I’ve been hooked since.
