    Yes Dave, I understand what you are saying about the experience and the challenge of flying. I hadn't thought about that aspect of the sport. But you are correct. Still it was fun to think about what technology could do to help.

    Dave! Outstanding performance, my Dude! I like the "The Wind Did It" segment, had me laughing out loud. Thanks for the shout-out, I'm really happy this one, unlike your Skipper, seems to want to take off pretty smoothly. I'll experiment with different "reflex" positions on the ailerons to see if it helps if I run into that issue - which I may. Man, she looks like a jet from the future - great still picture of the "wind doing it"!
    I've built a couple Li-Ion packs using big 21700 cells, Molicel P42A ($6 each), 4200mah and 45 Amp discharge. They end up weighing about the same as a Graphene 1500 pack, but I've also inundated mine with a camera VTX, and F411 FC. But hell, I use to fly my old Skipper with 2200mah 3S's, and she flew wonderful, so we'll see! The 21700's have brought all my old big planes to life, while I use 18650's (LG HG2, $5ea, 3000mah 20A) for my fleet of tiny iNav planes. Maybe something you'd be interested in?
    Either way, thanks for sharing this series on the Joysway Dragonfly, I look forward to the next project! (mine's a long range, iNav, EPP wing, with 180 pan gimbal and rear-facing camera for chasing, something you're in to also?)

      Hey Tommy - Mines got a Matek F411, Foxeer Razr Nano and an AKK 1200mw VTX. I run her on 21700 3S packs, good for 40 amp discharge, for 30 minutes. The li-Ion is a tight fit, but otherwise she's a great bird.

    That was fun! I have about 4 simulators on a dongle and could never take the simulator seriously. I tried and tried. If people aren't able to use the simulator and aren't committed to spending the 6 weeks 24/7 of learning on one (1000 hours) I highly recommend the GWS Slow Stick. I've been flying now for more than a decade and have the type of Personality that would rather crash in the real world than die of boredom in the virtual world. I've met a lot of my personality out of the club. Great video and thanks for sharing!

      Hello Traveler! I found the RC Desk Pilot is free and a little better. But, yeah, the simulators are mostly good at the beginning to get the orientation stuff right and then later if you want to practice stunt maneuvers.

      Ha, cool comment. I used to feel the same way about plane simulators, but once I started flying quads, sims taught me a valuable lesson:
      It's far cheaper as a noob to try new freestyle tricks on a sim than on your 5" quad. Helped for the first few serious tricks, and then gave the dongle and spare TX to a kid who was interested in quads, but had a limited budget. Many, many moons ago, lol

    bro the reason the model leaps off the water is uve got it tail heavy. recheck the center of . dads got one and the cg is slightly off from the box n those holes u filled in are supposed to be there lol they alow you to see the wing spar is in both sides evenly, ie one wing doesnt have to much spar protruding and the other wing doesnt have enough. its easy to measure your wing spar and mark the alfway point using a silver sharpie works well silver sharpie because the wing spar is made of black carbon fiber so i used a silver sharpie becuase it stands out unlike all the rest of the colors in the Rainbow dont show up on a black carbon spar ect instead od adding weight use a larger battery it will solve the CG problem and give better/longer flight times n better servo performance ect ect. hope any of that helps bro.ttyl

    that amount simulator training sounds large but I am sure it is true. Wouldn't it be something if software could take the place of the need to switch modes of coming and going. Have controls which know if the plane is coming or going and make the appropriate translation. This was an excellent video thank you I really enjoyed watching.

    • @GhostRyderFPV
      @GhostRyderFPV Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Glenn, I saw your interesting comment, and did a little digging. A little background first - bought an E-Flite Apprentice many moons ago, and was blown away by the self-leveling that they built into the receiver. Fast forward many moons, I have 5 years of quad racing and freestyle, and a renewed interest in planes.
      The flight controllers in quads can easily help stabilize and control fixed wing planes, too. Using a similar software to what we use in quads, (called BetaFlight), as well as hardware , (GPS, compass, smart LEDs, buzzers, camera control), fixed wing planes can do what you mentioned, and a lot more. iNav is the software I'm talking about, and it is a real game-changer. Though I've never used it, there is a mode called "HeadFree" that will take into account the orientation it was in when armed, and change the way the Z axis, Yaw, responds as a result. I've seen this on tiny drones, but not in a plane, but now very interested to try it!
      Please have a look at iNav, Dave has a series on it, as well as other known RC 'Tubers.

    • @DaveMerc
      @DaveMerc  Před 3 lety

      Flex Innovations has a flight stabilizer that has modes like "knife edge" and "inverted flight" available at the flip of a switch. But to have it switch orientation when it comes towards you would require it to have data on pilot location/direction and the same for the aircraft. Of course it could be done because they have that for drones at a high expense. Still I think part of the pleasure of the sport would be defeated with such a device. If you hate sims the other solution it to get a basher plane that just won't break.
