Fran was definitely not 29, a running joke in the series is that we never find out her actual age. The closest we ever came was Sylvia confirming that Fran is over 35. In real life, Fran Drescher and Charles Shaunnesy (Maxwell) are only a couple of years apart, so I assume Fran is around the same age in the show.
The fact that the kids including Sheffield were all sad and miserable until Fran came along and changed their lives for the better. Even Niles. I just loved how she came in and brightened everyone's hearts.

They changed the layout of the first floor in the actual series so the pilot was not perfect ;) But seriously, not only did no one get replaced, they manage to hide CC's pregnancy which allowed them not changed CC's personality. Definitely one of my favorite show of the era which is still a bit surprising to me since I know I was not in the target demographic. I was in my mid twenties to early thirties when this show first aired and I'm pretty sure no writer of the show every lost sleep over how to get more black dudes in their late 20s to watch the show:)

You also didn't see that other office set again after the Pilot, where Maxwell finds Maggie kissing Eddie, and later on when Niles tells him that Fran is actually what he needed.

When you’re Gen Z and realize Jessie was pretty much a kids version of The Nanny. You could say “a woman goes to Manhattan to find a better life, and ends up becoming the nanny for a rich family’s wacky children, living with them and their know-it-all butler” and it would literally describe both shows.
I loved how Fran stood up to Mr. Sheffield after he told Maggie to go to her room. After only working there a few days, Niles saw the impact Fran had on Mr. Sheffield and his kids. Glad he humbled himself to ask her to return to work.
I genuinely think this is a perfect pilot. All the main cast, and even some side characters like Val and Sylvia, get well established, we know their personalities and relationships with the other characters, pretty much nothing about them got retconned moving forward like many sitcoms did. We got a perfect blend of comedy and serious, and it set up the dynamic for the whole show.
I love how she is more upset after spending less than one weekend with the children and being fired than she was when her boyfriend of 3 years broke up with her AND fired her. It just goes to show how much deeper her relationship with them was.
I'm just smiling all the way through this. Fran Fine was so brash with a good outlook on life that her mere presence helped the kids right from the start.
I wonder if Fran never showed up would Max have married CC. They should have done an episode ala It’s A Wonderful Life where we see an alternate universe where Tony never dumped Fran and never became the nanny.

All of which stopped in an instant when he saw the red dress, and C.C.’s immediate jealousy in response.
As a HR professional, she could have sued him for wrongful termination since he freely admitted he was firing her so he could hire his new girlfriend. Just saying...lol
Usually there's always adjustments to the characters after a pilot. But this pilot is just like any other future episode. Perfect first episode. Fran is beautiful and hilarious. Love this show.

It’s pretty common for shows to use already existing sets from old shows in the pilot, then build a specific set if the show gets picked up. Why spend the time and money to build a full set for a pilot, when most shows never get past the pilot.

Helen F. I gotta say C.C. is my third favorite. She is definitely a “wasp” type personality but the show gave her more meaning and depth than just an outright snooty person.
Rose Treiger If Netflix can pay Schumer and Chapelle upwards of 50million for a comedy special, they could surely pay Drescher and her ex a reasonable amount to stream their old show for few years.
The best part of this is how Niles knew that Fran was just what the family needed from the get go. Between their banter when Fran said she was 29 towards the beginning and then telling Mr. Sheffield that Fran was what they'd been needing near the end of the episode, you could see the platonic chemistry between him and Fran and I love that so much about this episode!
I think this pilot was one of the best examples of how to set up a show from the get go Every character is established with their personality and character traits right away and in some cases with only a few scenes needing to do so We get to know who C.C babcock is, Who Niles is, and who the kids and Fran and Maxwell are in a few scenes and or a few web written situations. The conversation between Niles nd Maxwell shows their dynamic, Niles and C.C.’s duality is well placed this was a perfect pilot episode and literally set up the show and the characters quite well. I do believe that some shows do need to find themselves over the course of a few episodes, this one however, was perfect from the get go.
The show did evolve somewhat. C.C. became more of a neurotic train-wreck in subsequent episodes and season one was somewhat grounded in reality, while the rest of the seasons were more satirical and absurdist.

The Nanny is one of the benchmark tv shows when we talk about the 90s! This is one of those shows that I can always throw now and truly enjoy like the episode I'm watching is a brand new one.Fran is so fine, she has pure authentic beauty from that era. Pure nostalgia!
It's amazing how Fran started out by initially wanting to sell makeup, only to become the family's nanny and then Maxwell's wife and the kids' stepmother.
I've got about 60 episodes of The Nanny saved to my DVR for the last year and a half. I don't need to watch the pilot (seen a million times, hello baby James Marsden! 😆). I just wanted to make sure to come here and like it and support y'all. 🤗
I love this show....Fran was absolutely gorgeous I loved the way she dressed. She truly showed you can be slim and have a figure not the fake figures of today but natural shape. God I wish I could get ahold of her wardrobe from the show..... I would kill it...
I also love how she was fully aware people judged her for being colorful/robust but she just didn’t let it phase her. It was that mind set that is what the family needed and why I think Niles encouraged Maxwell to hire her back. His family was so obsessed with tradition/appearances that it was isolating his children. Fran and her family are so loving/honest (despite being opposite of Maxwell’s family) and it shows how her influence positively affected each of the kids over the show.

The only thing that didn't change about it was the first shot of Maxwell's office.

Love how Fran came up with this idea all on her own. The show still comes on tv at 6pm every night. Glad Fran beat Breast Cancer. My parents even love the show

I never noticed in the pilot the mansion was flipped, in later episodes the stairs and entrance are on the right side
The stairs are also changed into curved stairs instead of angled

It’s pretty common for shows to use already existing sets from old shows in the pilot, then build a specific set if the show gets picked up. Why spend the time and money to build a full set for a pilot, when most shows never get past the pilot.

@@theallancb I didn’t recognize the salon set from anywhere else, but I’m pretty sure The Nanny’s set for it’s pilot was originally the Full House set, at least the downstairs.

Agreed. She was a huge crush of mine as a kid, too. And yeah, Niles was a treasure. His rivalry with CC was one of the greatest parts of the show!

Helen F. I gotta say C.C. is my third favorite. She is definitely a “wasp” type personality but the show gave her more meaning and depth than just an outright snooty person.
Knowing the horror she went through not that long before creating this show is mind blowing.

The best part of this is how Niles knew that Fran was just what the family needed from the get go. Between their banter when Fran said she was 29 towards the beginning and then telling Mr. Sheffield that Fran was what they'd been needing near the end of the episode, you could see the platonic chemistry between him and Fran and I love that so much about this episode!

I love how Daniel Davis, aka Niles, is from Arkansas and this isn't his real accent. He's so talented.
I think this pilot was one of the best examples of how to set up a show from the get go
Every character is established with their personality and character traits right away and in some cases with only a few scenes needing to do so
We get to know who C.C babcock is, Who Niles is, and who the kids and Fran and Maxwell are in a few scenes and or a few web written situations.
The conversation between Niles nd Maxwell shows their dynamic, Niles and C.C.’s duality is well placed
this was a perfect pilot episode and literally set up the show and the characters quite well.
I do believe that some shows do need to find themselves over the course of a few episodes, this one however, was perfect from the get go.
The show did evolve somewhat. C.C. became more of a neurotic train-wreck in subsequent episodes and season one was somewhat grounded in reality, while the rest of the seasons were more satirical and absurdist.

@@giovannirastrelli9821 C.C. descent into neuroticism was fueled by her increasing desperation for Maxwell’s interest. The more involved Fran and Maxwell got, the worse she got, until she broke completely when they got engaged.

The Nanny is one of the benchmark tv shows when we talk about the 90s! This is one of those shows that I can always throw now and truly enjoy like the episode I'm watching is a brand new one.Fran is so fine, she has pure authentic beauty from that era. Pure nostalgia!

I love this show....Fran was absolutely gorgeous I loved the way she dressed. She truly showed you can be slim and have a figure not the fake figures of today but natural shape. God I wish I could get ahold of her wardrobe from the show..... I would kill it...
I also love how she was fully aware people judged her for being colorful/robust but she just didn’t let it phase her. It was that mind set that is what the family needed and why I think Niles encouraged Maxwell to hire her back. His family was so obsessed with tradition/appearances that it was isolating his children. Fran and her family are so loving/honest (despite being opposite of Maxwell’s family) and it shows how her influence positively affected each of the kids over the show.
