Synopsis:
Fran Drescher stars as Fran Fine, a street-smart young woman with a face out of Vogue and a voice out of Queens who stumbles onto the opportunity to become nanny to the children of a wealthy widower, Maxwell Sheffield. Soon Fran, with her offbeat nurturing and no-nonsense honesty, touches Maxwell as well as the kids.

Fun Fact: The Nanny had so many jokes about Cece being an “old crone” & so much older than Nanny Fine. In reality, Lauren Lane (Cece) was 3 years younger than Fran Drescher. She’s also a fellow Texan & lives here today. She’s now a professor at University of Texas. 👏🏻

“Maggie” was especially great. The mannerism, facial expression and tone of voice was very similar. I also really respect that she went out her way to make “ugly” faces to better convey her emotions instead of the typical hollywood actress/actor idea of always having to look the best. CC does this pretty damn well too.

You give the impression that you think she's some random person they would've forgotten. In fact, Ann Hampton Calloway is an extremely well regarded singer-songwriter. Fran Drescher would definitely want to include her in something like this.

Just binged the entire series on HBO Max. I was insanely excited when Fran tweeted that it was out. This performance was wonderful. And the chemistry they all have over 25 years later is amazing.

oh wow i never realized that they used their facial expressions a LOT after every dialogue... to fill in the laughing track or the live audience to finished their laugh before coninuing to the next dialogue.

That's when you know you're good. And did you get a load of Maggie, putting green material around her neck, to match what she was wearing in the scene? So cute. These really are ACTORS. Making props out of whatever's handy, but also holding the camera with their eyes (Mr. Shellfield!!)

First, "Mista" Sheffield aged like a fine wine. Second, it's impressive how they all just comfortably slipped right back into those glorious characters. And last but not least, I forgot just how much I LOVED this show.

I'm almost 3 years late for this GEM. I can't believe I was not aware that this amazingness was going on. Fran Drecher is a comic genius. What impeccable comic timing she has. I don't think that she's appreciated and celebrated enough.

So far most attempts at rebooting/continuing older shows have turned out horribly. Only exception I can think of from the top of my head is Will & Grace, which enjoys rather modest success.
@@pHD77 well in the series finale Fran and mr Sheffield were married. They could just show what they're up to now. The twins would be 21 so maybe they could show them possibly coming home after college. And then we get to see how all the other kids are doing.

Besides notice the oldest daughter (who is light years younger) looks horific, which proves that Fran has had more than a little work done. Drescher is just clinging to any shred of recognition. She is a very sad woman. And speaking of BOTOX, her ex husband seems to have had a little work done too.
*To those commenting on Benjamin Salisbury’s (Brighton) hair:* He can’t help it. 90% of men have a gene that causes male pattern baldness. The lucky 10% (like Charles Shaughnessy aka Maxwell) will have thick, full heads of hair well into their golden years. But for most men who have the gene (myself included) we’ll have anywhere from a slightly receded hairline (widow’s peak) to being full on bald depending on the severity of the genes you have. I personally take prescription hair loss medication but still have some thinning & receding that makes me very self conscious. Other men use over the counter products or have *very expensive* (like $20-40,000) hair transplant surgery. It’s an unfortunate part of being male that causes depression & low self esteem in a lot of men. So go easy on him. He’s just a human being.

I don't mean to be insulting, but I predicted he would lose his hair when I saw him in the later episodes where he was all grown up (college years, I believe). But I agree that the majority of men have a gene that causes male pattern baldness. Also, as we get older, we (both men and women) tend to shed more hair.
On a side note, I was susceptible to hair loss until I ditched shampoos sold in stores (e.g., Suave) and switched to shampoos that are infused with caffeine and biotin. They are more expensive but they can potentially help with hair loss (I inserted "potentially" because just because it worked for me doesn't mean it'll work for everyone.).
So true - for men or women - losing hair does affect self esteem. Not easy to deal with at all. I thought they all looked fabulous - and I enjoyed their closeness and love after all these years!!! The love is what stood out to me the most.

It's special to see almost whole crew of "The Nanny". Yetta, long live the memory of her. My favorite comedian actors of all times are Robin Williams, Gracie Allen, W.C. Fields, Eddie Murphy, Fran Drescher, Mae West, Redd Foxx & Rodney Dangerfield.
I'll add to my list of favorite comedic actors, the whole Monty Python Crew. At times, Fran Drescher was funnier than anyone of them I listed above. The Fran I loved 40 years ago was not Fran Drescher, but a Fran; the funniest person I ever knew. Sad I listened to my military superiors persuading me that Fran would not be good for an officers wife. Again it wasn't Fran Drescher.

Pilots often have plots or storylines that are instantly abandoned bc the network has ideas they’d like to see when ordering episodes. It’s why in the Gossip Girl Pilot you see the rich kids riding the bus and then never see it again
Also when Maxwell's grandmother visits, and says something to her like, "Why, C.C., I don't understand, you've never been married, is that by choice?" to which Niles doesn't miss a beat with, "Yes, but not hers."

Everyone has barely aged, and acted their characters perfectly! The “kids” acted exactly as they did when they were little. I loved every character! Niles will always be my fav with his hysterical comebacks. 😂 I miss every single one of these characters!! Thank you so much for doing this. ❤️

It is amazing how little many of them have changed. Instantly recognizable. CC has changed the most, and it was to her advantage. What a difference a good hairstyle makes. She's the one i definitely wouldn't have recognized even after 5 minutes of looking at her.

Dialogue is just as funny without a laugh track ... which is actually pretty rare for sitcoms.
This show was so well-written. Imagine watching 'Big Bang Theory' with no laugh track,
It's only rare when the laugh tracks are recorded. The Nanny belongs to a time when sitcoms were filmed live in front of an audience. Granted it's a "selected" audience, but still. You could even "measure" the level of fame a guest star had based on the excitement and applause when it enters scene.

The chemistry and comedic timing is still there. It's as if 27 years has not passed.

This whole production was just magical. To see all the cast back, and doing a smashup job re-creating the first show was just awesome. I felt like I was watching it again for the first time!!
I never knew CeeCee's backstory of being a divorcee like that! Watching the series now on HBO Max and I'll have to keep my eye out for any hints towards her backstory!

I heard Madeline didn't enjoy doing the show because apparently, they didn't treat her like a person, more of a prop. Read it in an article from 2013. That's honestly really sad and I couldn't imagine the people on the Nanny set (or even her costars) acting like that, but I'm glad she agreed to do this! Although none of us were even there to see what really went on.
It is really simple: 'The Nanny' was the masterpiece of US sitcoms in the 1990's!
