  • An edited, illustrated and narrated playthrough of the game Dwarf Fortress
    From high mountains old grew the seed of ambition
    it's roots spreading out down the crags to the shore
    breaking from homes built in dwarven tradition
    'cuz one single dwarf wanted oh so much more.

      Have you ever used commands to alter the personality/stats of starting dwarves? I have been doing it lately to make ultra thematic, fine tuned starts and it is dramatically helped my immersion! I was thinking you could use this to really craft a story trajectory.

    With this fortress coming to a close let me just say the character and creature designs in this series have been incredible, from the addition of various features to the wildlife (especially the gomphothere tusked elephants and the rat-goblins) to the incredible fashion sense the dwarves of North Bridge have they’ve all been wonderful to see.

  • @feraraujo4291
    @feraraujo4291 Před rokem +104

    I don't know if this makes sense, but Stakud's reason for not considering Vabok's a kindred spirit, it's because she acquired some kind of trauma after the events with the Cyclops, maybe she has some kind of fear in making friends with other dwarves and lose them again.

    • @Thalatash
      @Thalatash Před rokem +32

      That really makes sense to me. Wasn't she the only survivor of the original expedition? I think her sister was lost with the rest of them, as well. That would definitely cause some psychological trauma.
      Now I'm going to have to go watch it again to see how much I remembered correctly, lol.

    • @winndypops
      @winndypops Před 7 měsíci +9

      It was the same deal in the previous series yeah, half of the fortress viewed her as a friend but the only friends she had listed were the party members that had fallen to the Cyclops, Id imagine even now there are still some of those old scars making it difficult for her to get too close to anyone.

    • @amergingiles
      @amergingiles Před rokem

      This. If they simply resurrected the dead as intelligent undead, it wouldn't be an issue, and would probably be sought out as a genuine service, but they go out of their way to amass violent armies of braindead corpses, and stitch together freakish abominations that are usually a similar shade of opposition to all things good. They already know the secrets to life and death, the experiments teach nothing.

    Oh, but seriously, Northbridge was a very fun series to follow. I found myself really loving Vabok. He doesn't have a strong - or, maybe 'eccentric' - personality like Fortress Leaders past, and I don't think he'll be remembered too fondly, but he was a pretty relatable guy. He wanted to build something great and he sure did it! He saw his vision through, found himself great friends, great warriors, and a beautiful lover. He's living the dream in his small chunk of the world.

It has been truly a joy and a delight, and has left me craving more stories of my own! I've especially loved the world-building artwork in this series. You made your elves creepy in a way I haven't seen before, and the (I presume?) South-Asian-inspired feel of the Dwarves and Deities of the Lancer of Oiling has been truly delightful.

    I a watching this only now, 3 days later because I wanted to sit down when I have enough time and concentration for it. It's like opening a box of very special sweets, a treat that needs to be enjoyed with the fullest attention.

    This episode is a masterpiece! With the voice acting, one of the best episodes in this series yet. I can tell you put in a lot of work. Please only do this when you feel inspired and don't force yourself every time.

    It's so rare to see a fort end on such a positive note! They have settled into the day to day, beyond your meticulous concern

  • @elijahmitchell-hopmeier182

    A great end to this fortress! I can't say how much I appreciated seeing this fortress grow and develop, and yes I will Kruggsmash that like button

    Your talk about intelligent undead reminded me of when you tried to make a vampire fortress. That was a cool idea.

    There's nothing wrong with necromancers and even less wrong with legions of highly trained dwarfs in shining armour heading out to subdue neighbouring nations! Glory to the dwarfs!

    It’s nice to have a fortress end like this and not having it go into never further downward spiral roll of insanity. It’s a nice change of pace. Cheers and on to the next fortress.

    With the mist generator freezing up, what’s happening is cold salt water is being brought up through the pump, and becoming fresh water. Both in real life and dwarf fortress, a small amount of stagnant freshwater is going to have a higher freezing point than the moving salty ocean.

    My boy Krug! Nice to see the quality of your work ramping up year after year. Skullhorror will still be my favorite in my heart but NorthBridge is now in 2nd. Tks for the inspiration btw, I'm doing a dwarven tower just to see how high I can go. Send you some renders whe I'm satisfied, if ever. ❤

    You've built more in 8 short years in Northbridge than my current fortress of Horncall could in over 20 years!

    Great series Krug. I've enjoyed it immensely.
    If you are looking for a change of pace -- I'd like to see a microfortress (in the vein of Nokortorad) where you do a deep dive into the dwarfs' personality. With their traits, their gods, their goals, it could be like a community fort but a deep personality dive. Like, really get in there -- I know you usually give us the overview, but a full dive RP might be really fun!

    Thanks for another great series; no matter the mood per fort, these stories consistently bring a smile to my face. Really excited to see the next adventure begin!
