The dwarves of Spearcavern clearly don't know the ettiquite of the the undead. Telling a story of one's necromancer is a sign of honesty amoung them, it would be suspisous if they did not share it.

Hey Krugg, maybe Whisp’s tantruming could be a good thing. If she *happens* to topple a statue in a temple, she could be cursed to become a were-creature-and while that might seem crazy, after her transformation, I believe her body is totally healed. That said, can a dwarf that can’t grasp topple statues?
this is a fantastic idea actually, i have ZERO idea how youd pull it off in character and itd be next to impossible for her to continue her fortress life afterwards but it seems fitting for someone as battle-driven as wisp seemed and id like it better than her dying
This sounds like it would be an awesome way to handle it if possible! If it's not a possibility then my second place vote would fall on trying to arrange an honourable death in battle for her, get her into some 1v1 fights, where she'll either wrestle, kick and bite the enemy to death - thus building her legend - or otherwise at least fall in a manner worthy of song, rather than an ignoble end as the result of an unavoidable mental break...
Urdim is probably an Agent for something. You might not have the ability to interrogate him but a “monster slayer” showing up without arms or armor usually means he’s using an assumed identity and looking for some artifact or another to steal.
This would hurt, because with only so few dwarf the number of artifact in Spearcavern is really limited. ... Wait... Wisp had already created an artifact, right? She is not going to get an strange mood and then go insane because she can't grasp, right?
@@mesdecent8051 you need at least 20 dwarves to start to have strange moods. As long as Krugg doesn't double the population cap, this won't be an issue
I had a dwarf like Stakud in my very first world! She wound up in the three forts I made in it before losing that save file, haha. Turned into quite a killer by the end, at one point she took out a were--elephant with one swing of her pickaxe so I named her "Tusk". I love it when familiar faces crop up and it's so exciting to see Stakud again!
It's quite appropriate that a tavern with such an exotic location would get such an exotic first visitor, hahahah. Ahahahah, almost every visitor is some kind of bizarre wanderer, amazing. Brilliant illustrations, great episode.
Kruggsmash I think Dwarf Fortress has a furniture item called a "traction bench" that can be used to heal the nerve damage in wisp's arm. That could save her from the depression spiral

I think 'cheating' with DFHack to restore Wisp's in-game functionality so she doesn't go insane and tantrum constantly is perfectly fine. I love the narratives drawn by Dwarf Fortress, since there is no intent to make character arcs interesting things, interesting other things can happen. The story of wisp in particular, becoming disabled and struggling to live in the fortress really touched me
STAKUD! Man, she really gets around. Makes me wonder if this is a normal thing, for a dwarf to keep showing up, and we simply dont noticed because normally we dont look at individuals. EDIT: Ah, reloads were involved. Though for that very specific character to show up in a 2 person wave, only after a few reloads, when Northbridge had dozens if not more to pick from 'familiar faces' its amazing.
There is some weird code that biases migrant waves to include retired/banished dwarves of your past forts, even if it makes no sense for that dwarf to be there.
@@Bronimin Indeed, had a world infested with weregilla for that reason. Each migrant wave I basically had to check if I recognized anyone, as those were weregilla like 60% of the time, as I had a previous fort where I kept them alive isolated in their own wing. It's the world where I learned, that if something has been walled in, it doesn't prevent its escape once you retire the fortress. Weregilla might not be the strongest werecreature, been damn are they good at transmitting the infection been venomous creature.
*Serious Question:* When will the 4th Splatterface Tournament take place?... I can feel the God Armok is thirsty for an honorable but brutal bloodshed, I'd even love to see some forgotten beast like Mid-Game Celebration.
I think that world was on a previous version so it is possible it isn't compatible with the current one. So he may need to make a whole new thing. Notice all his recent series have been set in the same world?

Bomrek the sheriff of skullhorror. the one who had a Fell Mood, killed a fellow dwarf and made a helm of their bones. i decided he became a wandering adventurer after being stripped of his name, and beard. shamed, exiled, and wandering the land, he looks to reclaim his honor. which he knows he cant.
I suppose since Spearcavern is so far out from civilization, it certainly follows that this land would be wandered mostly by outcasts, exiles, and monster hunters.
Really loving your DF content! A friend turned me onto your channel a couple of weeks back, and I've been watching my way through all of the post-steam release videos. Your episode style is head and shoulders above anything I've seen anyone put out for it. I'll absolutely be recommending the channel to any other DF fans. Best narrative play since Boatmurdered :)
Does Pop actually like mining? Dwarves preferences do change sometimes and if she does or is at least neutral then giving her a large project might improve her mood. Its been a while since I played but I remember in all of my forts the miners are always the happiest drunkards of them all and I'd use the mines as a way to improve morale.

Another great episode! Thanks again! On the topic of narrative arcs, I really enjoy BOTH. There's the narrative arc that you're able to craft from the events you're given, but there's also the emergence of different kinds of stories that don't necessarily fit a traditional narrative arc. That's what I'm here for. Traditional media has that down pat... but what is harder to find is something new and unexpected. I think you and DF make a good team ;-) Keep up the good work!

An idea for Whisp which could... maybe work. Couldn't you make her a performer at the tavern? Dwarfs that can't play instruments usually tell stories which she should be perfectly able to do. Just an idea though, I know her social skills aren't the best :/
32:20 and sometimes it does give you arcs , like i was watching my friend play ( with a playable kobold mod mind you ) and a forgotten beast invaded his fortress, his militia aside from one newbie didn’t have there gear on a fled, he stood his ground against the beast and died holding it off . And in a fit of rage with a baby on her back the mother slayed the beast with tooth and claw ( we knew it was in vengeance because her mood was vengful) but after that the mood said she no longer cared for anything anymore

I think that maybe she found Northbridge to be too large of a city for her now, she always had a thing for the frontier life right? maybe a smaller community was her thing and after she helped develop Northbridge she found herself somewhat bored to be a part of such a big Fortress...so now she went a bit further north to live a simpler life with her husband! speaking of him it´s also nice to see she found love! she has been through a lot in her life and now just wants a cozy family life in a smaller more isolated sort of fortress, not isolated mind you...but smaller and more familiar...
I have an awful but semi hopeful thought of tinny coming back as an intelligent undead because an necromancer visited or one of the dwarves ended up as a necromancer
On one hand, Stakud, the Avatar of Idrath returns! On the other hand, Erith Squirtbooks being naked could mean that he's either a werebeast or just a nudist.

Regarding Stakud showing up again...I notice that she seems to be traveling ever more northward each time. And that she's going to places that have a violent reputation or at least a reputation of making tough dwarves (the elven wars of North Bridge, the monsters of Spearcavern). It's almost as if she's trying to make herself powerful enough to go back up to the Northern Reaches to finish what her departed companions failed to do. Perhaps the scars from her time up north run deeper then we suspect? Perhaps when Adventure Mode comes out, we'll see her set off from Spearcavern to try and do just that, maybe?
I love your videos because they remind me to enjoy DF in the way i feel it's best enjoyed. I started handwriting a yearly journal to focus on the details of all my forts, even with my horrible drawings, inspired by your vids.

Would that work? I was under the impression that nerve damage was permanent outside of werebeast transformations.
I'm pretty sure the traction bench is for setting broken bones.
Sadly, nerve damage is permanent without bug/cheat.And often, once a dwarf lose the ability to grasp, they are basically goner.

Man, she really gets around.
Makes me wonder if this is a normal thing, for a dwarf to keep showing up, and we simply dont noticed because normally we dont look at individuals.
EDIT: Ah, reloads were involved. Though for that very specific character to show up in a 2 person wave, only after a few reloads, when Northbridge had dozens if not more to pick from 'familiar faces' its amazing.
There is some weird code that biases migrant waves to include retired/banished dwarves of your past forts, even if it makes no sense for that dwarf to be there.
@@Bronimin Indeed, had a world infested with weregilla for that reason. Each migrant wave I basically had to check if I recognized anyone, as those were weregilla like 60% of the time, as I had a previous fort where I kept them alive isolated in their own wing. It's the world where I learned, that if something has been walled in, it doesn't prevent its escape once you retire the fortress.
Weregilla might not be the strongest werecreature, been damn are they good at transmitting the infection been venomous creature.
Cobat Room attracts real freak shows. Probably because of location.

When will the 4th Splatterface Tournament take place?... I can feel the God Armok is thirsty for an honorable but brutal bloodshed, I'd even love to see some forgotten beast like Mid-Game Celebration.
I think that world was on a previous version so it is possible it isn't compatible with the current one. So he may need to make a whole new thing. Notice all his recent series have been set in the same world?

Bomrek the sheriff of skullhorror. the one who had a Fell Mood, killed a fellow dwarf and made a helm of their bones. i decided he became a wandering adventurer after being stripped of his name, and beard. shamed, exiled, and wandering the land, he looks to reclaim his honor. which he knows he cant.

I suppose since Spearcavern is so far out from civilization, it certainly follows that this land would be wandered mostly by outcasts, exiles, and monster hunters.
Really loving your DF content! A friend turned me onto your channel a couple of weeks back, and I've been watching my way through all of the post-steam release videos. Does Pop actually like mining? Dwarves preferences do change sometimes and if she does or is at least neutral then giving her a large project might improve her mood.
Its been a while since I played but I remember in all of my forts the miners are always the happiest drunkards of them all and I'd use the mines as a way to improve morale.

Another great episode! Thanks again! On the topic of narrative arcs, I really enjoy BOTH. There's the narrative arc that you're able to craft from the events you're given, but there's also the emergence of different kinds of stories that don't necessarily fit a traditional narrative arc. That's what I'm here for. Traditional media has that down pat... but what is harder to find is something new and unexpected. I think you and DF make a good team ;-) Keep up the good work!

An idea for Whisp which could... maybe work. Couldn't you make her a performer at the tavern? Dwarfs that can't play instruments usually tell stories which she should be perfectly able to do. Just an idea though, I know her social skills aren't the best :/
32:20 and sometimes it does give you arcs , like i was watching my friend play ( with a playable kobold mod mind you ) and a forgotten beast invaded his fortress, his militia aside from one newbie didn’t have there gear on a fled, he stood his ground against the beast and died holding it off . And in a fit of rage with a baby on her back the mother slayed the beast with tooth and claw ( we knew it was in vengeance because her mood was vengful) but after that the mood said she no longer cared for anything anymore

I think that maybe she found Northbridge to be too large of a city for her now, she always had a thing for the frontier life right? maybe a smaller community was her thing and after she helped develop Northbridge she found herself somewhat bored to be a part of such a big Fortress...so now she went a bit further north to live a simpler life with her husband! speaking of him it´s also nice to see she found love! she has been through a lot in her life and now just wants a cozy family life in a smaller more isolated sort of fortress, not isolated mind you...but smaller and more familiar...
I have an awful but semi hopeful thought of tinny coming back as an intelligent undead because an necromancer visited or one of the dwarves ended up as a necromancer

Regarding Stakud showing up again...I notice that she seems to be traveling ever more northward each time. And that she's going to places that have a violent reputation or at least a reputation of making tough dwarves (the elven wars of North Bridge, the monsters of Spearcavern).
It's almost as if she's trying to make herself powerful enough to go back up to the Northern Reaches to finish what her departed companions failed to do. Perhaps the scars from her time up north run deeper then we suspect?
Perhaps when Adventure Mode comes out, we'll see her set off from Spearcavern to try and do just that, maybe?
I love your videos because they remind me to enjoy DF in the way i feel it's best enjoyed. I started handwriting a yearly journal to focus on the details of all my forts, even with my horrible drawings, inspired by your vids.
