- Morris Island Lighthouse - Folly Beach, SC. Enjoy a look at this old and historic lighthouse that has withstood time, countless storms, beach erosion, mother nature in general, and even an earthquake.
Built 1876. Automated in 1938 when the beach had eroded and the ocean reached the lighthouse. Decommissioned and abandoned in 1962 when the new Charleston Lighthouse was built on Sullivan's Island in the background.
Your eyes do not deceive you... the Morris Island Light does lean to the northeast and is believed to have slowly done so due to the Charleston earthquake of 1886 when it was considerably damaged with two large cracks in the walls and the first order Fresnel lens becoming displaced and a piece falling out and breaking. Further erosion around the lighthouse and the ever-changing currents have also played a role in the tower leaning. In 2008, a cofferdam was built to help stabilize the base of the lighthouse and sandbar it sits on. By 2010 the cofferdam was completed to strengthen the foundation for the light. By 2018 it was noted that sea-level rise will again threaten the lighthouse as time goes on.
In this video, I get to show you all the lighthouse from Folly Beach. Afterwards, I send my DJI drone in to give you an upclose view of the lighthouse out in the Atlantic Ocean.

I love lighthouses just something about them I'd like to see one in person to go inside one I've seen one at ocean city but never went in one i love the sound of the ocean puts me right to sleep and wow what a sunset..

That’s cool! I live near Charleston but I haven’t been to see this lighthouse.
It's worth seeing even though it's several hundred yards out in the ocean. The walk from E. Ashley Street is a pretty long walk but worth it.

I'm glad you enjoyed! It's funny you mention doing drone footage on trains. That's on my to-do list later this Spring. I just have to get comfortable trying to fly it near the tracks because of the trees. Anyway, that is something I plan on soon!
