I personally like to think it was Goblin the whole time during the Thanksgiving party in Spider-Man 1. The eyes rounding in the elevator. His behavior acting very strange. Him looking for (Tobey) Peter in his room. Him looking at May after she slap him and he licks his fingers.
Also in that scene you can barely see his gap teeth, which use by the director to indicate Goblin is in control. Almost like they wanted us to question if it's either Goblin or Norman.
Also it been clear that Norman doesn't know what happens when Goblin is in control. So how would he know about Tobey cut on his arm. I think Goblin saw that and the realized of Peter being Spider-Man cause Norman to come out, afraid of Goblin taking over and doing something he leaves as fast as possible. Goblin later tells him that Peter is Spider-Man and Norman bags Goblin to let this go as Peter is Harry best friend. (This shows that in a way Norman does care about Harry). But in this abusive mentally ill split personality disorder relationship Goblin calls the shots. And he not letting to gold opportunity go.

    • @theinsurance2450
      @theinsurance2450 Před 2 lety +12

@@obiwankenobi4801 well that's the thing. People have been debating if Norman is evil or not. The people who think he is evil, think so because they believe Norman willfully and knowledge knew the Goblin formula was not ready and was willing to use it on innocent human test subjects just so he doesn't lose the weapon contacts which if lost has the potential to destroy the company.
However I think differently. For starters if Norman knew the formula wasn't ready and tried on innocent human test subjects that would just get him in even more trouble. With human law violations. The General is clearly against Norman. He will immediately throw a law suit down Norman throat which will not only ruin his company but will put Norman in jail. It doesn't make sense for Norman to knowledgeably put people's lives at risk. It would just ruin him even more. Also if he was evil why would Norman try the formula which he knows isn't ready on himself. Even if you say he was desperate. Why not make Dr. S do it. That what a evil person would do. Not try the risky experiment on oneself.
No. What I think is Norman really believed the formula was ready. It more believable his greed convince him it was ready, even if it wasn't. That would make more sense why he push for human testing and try it on himself. This is supported with Norman over confidence with his science abilities and the fact Norman said all the other scientists besides Dr S said the formula was ready for human testing.
As for Norman feeling towards Harry. I think he did care. Maybe not as much as he should but he does care. There are a few moments showing this. Norman running after Harry to give him his book bag. Norman caring who Harry is dating to see she not using him. Which base on how you look at this version of Mary Jane is up for debate. Norman begging Goblin not to hurt Peter because he's Harry best friend. Norman telling Peter don't tell Harry.
Norman loves his son. He just wished his son had the science spark. Norman live his life working hard, with people constantly working against them. The General or the board of directors for example. All he wanted was to push Harry to repear for the real world. Which in a way he did, as Norman's death push Harry to work 3 times as hard. With Harry running Oscorp and improving on the Goblin formula.
So in short no. Norman is not evil. He just not a perfect man. But that the whole point of Spider-Man franchise. People aren't supposed to be prefect. The goal is to try to be better.

      Not necessarily.
There's a saying about saving the best for last.
This came up on Commentary for Shanghai Knights.
When Jackie Chan's character fights the man who he killed his father, and who he THINKS killed Roy, his final words before the death blow are - °You killed my friend. You killed my father!"
On the commentary track, they debated the father / friend order. Then said it made sense to have the more important one be last.
And it makes sense to end statements on the biggest thing to truly punctuate the situation.
So for Norman, he's in a strange place. His house is not his, Oscorp is non-existent so he can't go there for help or answers. So having absolutely no resources, means (worst of all) that he has no way of finding or getting in any contact with his son.

@@michaeljosephjackson2364 Yes I've read that story. First of all, that is not THIS Green Goblin. This Green Goblin killed a general, and a couple of business executives, and talked some villains into doing something bad. I really love Dafoe in this thing, but this Goblin is a delusional fool. Second of all, even in that story, he didn't outsmart shit. He got damn lucky.
He happened to be the one on the news killing the Skrull Queen. Moments before she was about to be killed anyway, she was completely helpless, and everyone was running at her, he just happened to pull the trigger first. Then the rest of the story is about him being an obviously evil shit, while the media and public just ignore it. Not saying that isn't believable, that's generally what happens, but that story was not about how clever Osborn was, it was about the stupidity of everyone else.
The way he finally manages to lose his power was pretty pathetic. Launching an attack he'd been ordered not to make, which he didn't even stand to benefit from. He was just nuts. Osborn rubbing shoulders with the likes of Doctor Doom was a weird experiment. I did like how even Doom commented how weird it was, he couldn't believe the writers were making him talk to this guy like he mattered.

While it’s great that she teaches Peter to help those in need, she seems to think that it’s perfectly safe and okay to take all of the mentally-unstable villains to a populated apartment building and house them at Happy’s place without Happy’s permission. She is no psychiatrist; she has no idea what exactly is wrong with the villains, and neither she nor Peter have any idea that Norman has a serial-killer split personality. It’s because May severely underestimates the danger of bringing the villains to the apartment that she loses her life and Happy loses his home. And it may have been even worse; who knows how many innocent residents were killed or hurt, or very nearly were, because of it.

At first I thought it was strange that they went this far in the direction of dementia/schizofrenia. Because I always saw Norman as pretty bad by himself. But rewatching the first film, it's clear that as the movie goes on, Norman slowly "dies" and becomes less in control. He seems genuinly confused and scared for the first half of the film. It's not until the board meeting where the Goblin emerges in his private life. And of course he reveals himself to Norman after the attack. From that point he has a firm grasp on his mind and doesn't really let go.
So really THIS SCENE is truly the first time where Norman is himself since before the festival attack.

When Norman said “someone’s living in my house” that someone he mentioned is Eleanor Bishop because surprisingly the Bishops live in the same building lives where Norman lives in his universe.

The way I look at it at this point where he doesn't know what will happen to them I understand why he sees it that way, they came from a literally different Universe and he doesn't know anything about their history or what will going to happen to them, so at this point he is the most logical thing is to think that sending them back is the best for them, but on the other hand, Aunt May (although she is being overly harsh with Peter here) she also not wrong, as regardless of who they are and where they came from it's obvious (at least Norman) he's a man who clearly has some serious issue and needs help, so for Peter to practically turn his back on him with the excuse that it's not his problem is not what I'm going to accept from him
