I Bought A $1200 Vinyl Record... | RAREST FIND EVER - STORYTIME

- I recently had a right place/right time moment and was able to secure my holiest of grails vinyl record. This record is so rare that I never truly thought I'd own it unless a repress miraculously happened down the road (which is unlikely). Let me tell you the story of what I got, why it was such a good deal, and the INSANE way that I ended up procuring it.

Amazing that it’s signed but It’s honestly just as crazy that it’s #3 of 2000. That means it was probably Matt’s personal copy, usually the first handful go straight to the band. Mind blowing man.
I just realized that next to the number it says PMC. Promo Matt Cameron? :O
Too Many Records I’ll call Eddie and ask if his says PEV 🤣
Noble Records
Haha! Nice...
That's an astute point.
The story and where it came from makes it that much more AWESOME! Congrats!
Thank you Frank!!
You bought a $4000 dollar record for 1200 bucks. Well done. The signatures are 100% legit.
$1200 is money well spent if something in your hobby brings you that much joy.
I agree, friend!
I couldn’t agree more! I’ve increased my collection by so much over the past few months and I get judgement for it all of the time! But the hobby is a great one to have!
It shouldn't be so expensive, but on the other side, buying and owning an expensive and rare record, can make you happy :-)
Insane. Pearljam's not even a great band.
It's honestly a historical artifact.
I am soooooo jealous! Good for you! This and Lost Dogs are my ultimate grails. I have been a member of the Ten Club for over 20 years, and I love when a true fan gets a piece like this.
I am glad to say I now have all the PJ vinyl I need. The only "nice to have" now would be the GITD PJ 20.
Not even a Pearl Jam fan but this makes me happy for you as someone who collects vinyl. May we all find our grails!
What's your holiest grail?
Right now The Flaming Lips - Peace and Paranoia Tour 2013 EP (which I just found out about). They did two Tame Impala covers and Tame Impala did two Flaming Lips covers...or the Currents boxset which only sold in Europe and has a 7” of B-sides.
Congrats Matt! Awesome story and no hate from me on how much you spent! I applaud you on such an crazy find.
Wow! So happy for you! And your video story was, as always, perfectly paced and exciting to hear. Congrats man! 👍
Congrats! I have a hard time spending $100 on a record, let alone $1200. If it brings you that much enjoyment, then it was worth it.
I have been through the same trauma with record orders and the USPS recently. They have come through every time. They could be more efficient and cost effective but that's no excuse to run them out of business. Tell me of ANY other government agency that MAKES money? Protect OUR Post Office! Make it better.....don't destroy it. Post rant I will say value is whatever you value ANYTHING at. Very much like the subjectivity of art itself. Want and beauty are in the eyes of the beholder.
I say disband the usps. They are trash, the government throwing more money at something has never worked. I'd rather pay more to use fedex or ups, while they are not perfect they are leagues better than garbage usps.
@@SilentCheechGaming1991 A single, narrow minded view that fails to take in to consideration others who would no longer be able to afford the service. No mention by you of the drag on the USPS to fund their retirement beyond what anyone else does....private or public. Why do you give politicians a free pass from doing their jobs? We need our government to work and OUR employees in it to do their jobs. Like the private sector, if they can't they need to be replaced with someone who can. You are buying politicians telling you something can't be done that has been done practically since the inception of our country and is the only business that is in the Constitution. If a politician says we can't do something we've been doing for over 200 years than it is he/she that I question if they are up to the job.....not passing the buck.
I think you did the right thing. Some collectors fail to remember that some of these things that we have found, while high in value, can still be obtained. When you have a chance at a once in a lifetime grail, you have to jump on it (figuratively, of course) if you ever plan on owning it. Nice score and glad it all worked out for you.
Always love hearing these kind of stories, congrats!!!
I’ve had a lot of records “in transit”, and they’ve always eventually showed up.
Absolutely crazy score, dude and well worth it too. Totally a once in a lifetime opportunity. Congratulations, man. You’ll treasure it forever and even probably sleep more soundly knowing you’ve got it sitting up there at the top of your collection.
Congrats!!! 🍾🎊🎉🎈.
Awesome find and story! Thank you 🙏🏽
great video matt! congratulations!
Yess!!! So happy to see this video. Glad you have your grail now🤘🏻
Awesome video!!
Dude! That's so freaking awesome! Sick find and awesome story!
Congratulations! That’s awesome that it turned out in a good way! You got so lucky! USPS has been horrible with Media Mail these days. I sent an album to my Dad within the same state of Michigan (lower to Upper Pennisula). It went to PA, WI, stayed at transit at each of their distribution centers for over a week each, then finally back to MI, and then took another 6-7 days just to get to him. Luckily it wasn’t damaged.
Love hearing stories of cool finds from other collectors
The thing that makes this so much fun is the thrill of the hunt. I'm SO happy you you! Congratulations!
I love that you’re so geeked about this. Live your best life!
Fantastic!!! What a find!! I think you deserve it for the great videos that you do. Keep them coming and I hope you find more great like this one.
I loved this story! Really happy for you.
I am so happy for you! It’s fantastic getting something so amazing! Good on ya!😉👍🏻🌻🌻🌻🌻
Amazing story and product. I know how much this record meant to you and I can see just how happy finally securing it has made you. Absolutely well done, Matt!
Thank you Ryan (look for a little shoutout in wednesday's video btw)
My heart sank when I heard you said that you sold «Rearview Mirror»! As a Pearl Jam fan who tends to get to the «vinyl» party quite late and would LOVE that copy I shouted out «no!» Ha ha. Well, I then see what you wanted to buy and all I can say is... «yeah, I guess I’d give up one of my kids for that one too...» Have now seen this video 3 times!
LOL @ Kids comment hahaha
So great, man!!! Enjoy it!!!!
Absolutely great for you love your enthusiasm!!
Dude what a killer awesome story! This is amazing! I'm beyond happy for you and hope you get many years of listening experiences with the album! Well worth the money!
Thank you Mike!!
That was lovely ^_^ thanks for sharing
Congrats man what a find!
Congrats my man!
Great video mate, loving your joy well done
Awesome video and story. 🙏🖖
WOW!!! I feel your joy. I'm so happy for you, congratz 😎🤘👍
Great story & result!
Thank you!
Awesomely done!
Congrats Matt. Lovely find!
Congratulations! Great to see such a special piece in the hands of a true PJ fan. Enjoy
Congrats man!!
Great story for an awesome find. Congratulations!! ❤️💛💚
Getting an album that rare is once in a lifetime, so like totally justified. I’m sure anyone would do the same for their own passion if they had the disposable income. Great video and awesome find!
Good for you, man. That’s what collecting is all about. Don’t care about what people think. It’s actual worth is understood only by you. 🤘
I'm soooo happy for you! What a story! 💯❤
Love hearing this!! Although not a huge fan (it was after my time) I can greatly appreciate everything you went though. You only live once 😃
Holy crap. This is so incredible. I’m so jealous. Haha.
Watching this from the link in your ‘best live albums’ vid.
Matt Cameron, “hmmmm, I think I want to listen to my copy of PJ at Benaroya Hall lp...RAY!!!!
LMAO
Amazing find! One of the few that I was never able to get my paw on. I am actually in the beginning stages of downsizing some of my collection. I'm reluctantly going to be selling my signed vinyl of Riot Act which is so very cool but still not as cool as this one you have got my friend! Just amazing!
Congrats dude. Great find.
Nice buy mate. Congrats
My heart was skipping beats listening to your story unfold. Absolutely incredible!! Huge congrats!!
Thank you Anna!!!
As Detective Harry Callahan would say , " A Man's Got To Know His Limitations " ! 😆
Delighted for you, congrats.
Nice score! No regrets. You got something extremely rare from one of you favorite bands. Very nice.
That is dope af. Damn. Score
Congratulations. Great score
That is unreal. Awesome dude!
Congrats Matt. What a great feeling. I felt similarly when I finally acquired my grail...Walter Mitty soundtrack on vinyl; but this takes it to another level!
I still need to get Walter Mitty! I passed up a copy for $50 in like 2016 :(
Holy crap man, thats insane! Congratulations!
What a find!! Some 50’s records can go for tons of money. There are several 50’s records I want that are going for $3,000 to $8,000.
Wow. I wish that you could name a few. I’d love to know what they are.
I’m hoping for a repress, not to devalue yours at all but because i would love to have this show on wax!! Congrats man! That’s def a grail to tell your grand kids about someday!
Congrats on getting such a rare grail. The USPS Media Mail updates + No Insurance was certainly nerve-racking. Glad it all worked out!
great story, subbed
This is a great story! Thanks for sharing. I was so nervous while you were sharing it, seen as Ive heard some of your horror stories of empty boxes or being black listed at some hipster retail establishments. So I'm glad you got it unscathed.
For once a Storytime with a happy ending LOL
@@TooManyRecords all too rare!
A story always has more value than money. Yes it’ a great piece in your collection but the story of who you got it from and that interaction is what makes it more valuable than the price tag. Decades down the road the price fades in your mind but the story will stay.
EXACTLY.
Amazing story. That's a once in a lifetime score. Congratulations.
That "Once In A Lifetime" Collectible Purchase is always an awesome, awesome thing...
That’s wicked cool Bro
That is soooo cool! Congratulations on finding this HOLY GRAIL amongst Pearl Jam vinyl collectors! I dig your 2018 Seattle Home Shows hat too! I was at those shows too, sitting amongst the Ten Club seating area and the gentleman that was sitting next to had 3 MINT / UNOPENED Benaroya Hall Box Sets in his vinyl collection! He showed me pictures of his "vault" that he had on his phone and it was AMAZING! Hopefully one day I'll find my own copy of that HOLY GRAIL :-)
Those shows were SO GOOD. I wish I could relive them. Had tickets for Poland this year.... pit tickets.
Total jealously aside, just a great great story. Congratulations on the purchase, something many of us continue to dream about. Getting THAT copy from THAT source is just icing on the cake for days! The Benny show is just awesome, been too long since I’ve played it front to back.
That's so cool man enjoy
My initial thought was “I would never spend $1200 on a single record (even a box set)”, but you completely justified it for me.
That was my goal with this video!! Hahaha
Congrats on that man!" :) that is really great
LOL! I think all of us have a sinking feeling in the pit of our stomach when you said “in transit arriving late.”
the four worst words a record collector could hear
Congrats, I'm happy for you
Congrats Matt! Persistence pays off
So happy for you! Hearing your joy means you made the right decision.
Dude, I've had priority mail packages sitting at "In transit. Arriving late" for longer than that recently. Glad this grail made it home safely. Cheers!
Really digging your channel man. Been Binge watching your shows the last 6 or weeks. Its amazing too are music taste is very different. I just finish your top 100 albums. I maybe had 10 albums in mine that you picked in yours. So that should say alot. Keep up the good work
I'm so glad you're digging what I've put out. Which were the ones that we overlapped on, if you remember?
I love your excitement and the torture over the waiting period,so relatable! So much so that I am tempted to make your record as my Holy Grail, too... hahaha. But I think it would be great to find out more about people's "grails" and reasoning etc. What is my Holy Grail, actually?? Rumour has it, there is David Sylvian Weatherbox on vinyl somewhere (and Discogs suddenly becomes unreliable, as I also discovered with other artists and vinyl editions, e.g. Nina Simone remixes). Cheers from Oz
You’re not an idiot! That is AWESOME!!!! Completely understand how you feel !
Congratulations!
Just got a subscriber from this video man! I loved how much knowledge you had on your favorite band ! The storytelling drew up the anticipation, loved it!
Btw did you tear up when you opened it? Lol!
Welcome to the team man! Hope you enjoy my other videos :)
Score of a lifetime. I was in the 10 Club from 1998-2010, and big poster on Red Mosquito forum back in the day, and remember that coming up for sale. For whatever reason I didn’t buy (sold out before I could I think) and of course have been kicking myself ever since. There is a silver lining to this story however, because in 2003 I went to the 3 Boston shows, scoring front row seats (4) for 07/11/2003, which to this day is still the longest Pearl Jam concert they have ever performed. Congrats on getting your grail, I am genuinely psyched to see another PJ diehard score such a mythical copy of that amazing set.
DUDE! You got the Man trilogy!! I'm so envious. What an amazing setlist. I was at the Seattle Home Shows in 2018 and I had pit tickets for the 2nd show. I was like, 6 rows deep and that was a 3.5 hour long show and it was one of the top experiences of my life.
Too Many Records very cool. The 2003 trifecta was unforgettable, and I would love to see that released as a vinyl box set. Ive been a fan from the start and I went to 15 shows between 1998-2010, all East Coast, mostly Boston/Mansfield, but also Hartford and New Jersey, big poster collector, 10 Club, Stickman tattoo, the whole nine. Started having kids and needed to explore other music so I took a big break. Well, after being seriously disenfranchised with Backspacer and Lightning Bolt I was blown away by Gigaton this year, and it relit the PJ spark in a big way. Needless to say I can’t wait to go see them live again.
Fantastic story, well done man from a fellow collector :)
$1200 imo is such a small price to pay for something you’ve dreamed of getting for something that you can literally play whenever you want. Great find!!
Congratulations on your purchase and so happy for you. I know what it’s like to purchase a piece of music memorabilia and believe you me, there is nothing like waiting for that special purchase in the mail. I had purchased a Bob Crewe signed picture from an individual who met him at a radio station back in 1955. I made an offer and they accepted and could not wait to receive it while taking a while through the postal service. It finally arrived and I cherish that picture and I’m sure not to many of you young folks may know who Bob Crewe is but it means so much to me. Congratulations on your purchase and I’m sure worth every dollar invested.
Awww! Now you made me want one. :)
Jesus Christ Matt! I don't know much about Pearl Jam rarities, but your story really emphasized the important of being able to snag this record and for the absolutely insane deal you got for it! This is a textbook "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity. Really happy for you!
Thank you Fredi!!!
Wow that is awesome. Number 3! Enjoy! So jealous
Completely insane story! Also totally warranted as a huge Pearl Jam fan! Nice find and congrats man!
You’re Discogs account must say your collection is worth millions. That’s crazyyyyy to get a record that cool. Congrats
This is a brilliant story 😂👍😁
Keep digging what you like! I would have not gotten that at all, but i have an extensive hendrix collection so I understand completely dude! Keep it up
Thanks for sharing Matt... personally I would have really gone OTT on the shipping bit especially with there being no insurance or tracking for the item and USPS being a bit of a mess right now... can't beat a bit of suspense! But all is well that ends well and it certainly ended well for you!
1200$ for a record(s) could be seen as unreasonable. What you purchased is memorabilia, that can be used and enjoyed... unlike i.e. a signed baseball or basketball. Good job! Im glad it makes you happy!
A whole lot of amazing things have been circulating in the past few months. I've also noticed that the high dollar insured packages are usually the ones that go missing...
agreed, sound is amazing!
