What about the most expensive record that sold for $2M the “Wu-Tang Clan” “Once apon a time in Shaolin”
My rarest record I have is a old Vogue Picture Disc (78) from 1942 I think, last time I checked in it’s near mint condition it’s worth anywhere from 500-800$ of course it’s really only worth what someone’s willing to pay so I’ve decided to use it for wall art!
Regardless of how rare a record is, the feeling of getting the music you were looking for so long is just priceless.
This is true. I dropped $200 (most I've spent on a record, ever) on MxPx's "Slowly Going The Way Of The Buffalo" which only ever saw one vinyl release back in 1998 on release day. I had it on CD as a teenager, and it has some personal, special memoirs attached to it for me. So at my current age of 37, I felt the need to find it on vinyl (because only the music I DEEPLY care about I get on vinyl). It is a prized possession of mine, along with some other vinyl I have purchased ($100+) in the past several months. I am in no way rich, and have fell down the rabbit hole of buying vinyl when I most likely shouldn't LOL
The soul is fed, though. Mostly satisfied. :)
Yeah,I'd love a copy of that Parlour Trick album but Discogs has it going for $666.66. Sorry, as much as I live it, if I'm spending that much ,I'm buying a guitar.
@@Coasterdude02149 Same thing with signals from the outer wilds I want it so badly
Oh yeah, especially city pop
I have a original record of President Roosevelt giving his war speech on Dec. 8, 1941. I found it in a album of 10 78 rpm records at a thrift store for 50 cents
if you're being serious then you should totally record it and upload it
That's cool
Oh wow! What a treasure.👍😁
I have a copy of both of his speeches, the declaration of war on Japan and later after the Germans declared war on us, his speech to declare war on Germany. Mine are direct acetate recordings only one per size and the disks are oversized.
I have an original record of 2 speeches given by President Warren G. Harding.
Price and Rarity do not necessarily correlate
Somebody fell asleep during economics class
@Nick Charlton i love your comment so much you sound like some kind of eldritch god speaking one of their infinite wisdoms
Is supply and demand a better indicator of value? Or is it simply just what someone is willing to pay at any given time?
Rockford the Roe it makes sense though, if i make my own record and only make one no ones gonna buy it from me because im a loser
Yes they do
I've been buying vinyl for almost forty years and the rarest record in my collection is Al Bowlly with the Ray Noble Orchestra singing Midnight, the stars and you. It's on the Electrola label and it plays lovely considering it was pressed many moons🌒 ago in 1934.
Ooh nice! A german release of a american/British 78! Don't see that often.
The Japanese release of Daft Punk Discovery is my rarest and favorite record I own. Goes for upwards of $500 on Discogs these days, not leaving this man's collection though.
Wow. That’s my favourite album of all time. What makes it so rare? Also what’s a pressing you’d suggest I get?
fac_t it’s a special edition tie in to the Interstellar 5555 movie with the movie characters on the sleeve and inserts and so on. I’d just get a regular copy off of amazon for about $25. Those are still nice LP sets too.
its going now for more than 2000 USD😂😂
This guy has weird Nic Cage thing going on.
One of my rarest albums is my original 1991 pressing of Ozzy's No More Tears!
nobody cares
Ana keep your comments to yourself I care!! I have several Bootleg albums that numbered and very rare.I also have Test Pressing of Candlemass live 1988 on record 50 made worldwide have number 9 cost me $65 proud to own it.☺
@@anakakaka I was going to make a passive agressive comment about you, but it looks like I don't have to! Have a nice day, sweetheart! 😘
Thanks for getting back with me
Do you know anything about bootleg vinyl I have alot of them and wanting to ask questions about them
One of the rarest for me is Onra's "Chinoiseries Vol.3". Assuming the rarity is primarily because they stop pressing it and it's also from what I consider a legendary trilogy of instrumental hip hop albums, which samples a multitude of vintage Chinese, Vietnamese and Taiwanese music from the 50s, 60s and 70s
I'm not sure about the rarity of this one but it has a lot of sentimental value. One of the records I wanted to get when starting my collection was Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here. Considering that a lot of their albums have been rereleased on new vinyl, I figured it wouldn't be that hard to find. I looked everywhere I could think of but no one had a copy for a good price or at all and I'm kind of against the idea of ebay when it comes to this. I told my dad about this and without a second thought, he walks to his collection he had inherited from his late brother, pulls out an original 1975 pressing (scratch free, just needed cleaning), and hands it to me along with Animals by Pink Floyd and Signals by Rush (which are original pressings as well). I still don't think I've thanked him enough for this.
Kevin Esposito do you collect any hip hop records
@@tripleaaa4409 Not really into the genre but I'm open to recommendations
Kevin Esposito that’s fair it’s cool that your not close-minded lol. If you want, check out the Beastie Boys and RUN DMC they mix Rock and Hip Hop extremely well
For hip hop I'd recommend To pimp a butterfly by Kendrick lamar
Love the channel! I dj with vinyl but i learn alot about different styles of music and different variants. Keep it up
I am happy to be able to support your channel with CZcams's less than stellar monetizing rules. Thanks for putting out the vids Jared.
Thank you for watching! 😄
I just started collecting with the help of my grandfather, and at the moment my rarest album is an original The Doors album with the gold label, I dont know how much it's worth but I know it's pretty rare
What a great idea! Definitely checking the store out
My dad has a Canadian ”Love Me Do” single that is worth quite a bit and another Beatles album that has a pretty interesting story. The album is _Introducing The Beatles_ produced by Vee-Jay records before Capitol Record’s _Meet The Beatles!_ was out. Basically, Vee-Jay and Capitol were fighting to get these out before the other and of course Capitol did it first. We don't have one of the really rare ones, but I still absolutely love this record!
I do have some very rare Promo's 45 rpm which I've been collecting since the early 80's. Love your channel! My biggest collection is on CD's, I do have about 90% of all songs that were played on radio during the 80's decade, all of them on CD, artists 80's catalogs are my specialty. I have an internet radio program where I play those songs on a weekly basis.
Being a Detroiter, getting a copy of a 1st pressing White Stripes Italy Records "Lafayette Blues/Sugar Never Tasted So Good" in the white sleeve with the inserts intact. Jack White had a collector's vision from the very beginning.
None of these records are rare.
Especially the one you can still buy from a shop.
I've been waiting for this all day
Wow thanks for The Parlour Trick really great sounds.
I had Prince “The Rainbow Children” - sold for $820... Currently rarest:
Michael Jackson Dangerous 1991 - sealed ($150)
Prince The Gold Experience ($150-$300)
Miley Cyrus - Bangerz RSD low number ($150+)
And probably the rarest...
David Bowie Black Star Clear ($350-$600)
Just bought the Parlour Trick on red. Thx for sharing:)
Nice Vidéo !! Great rare collection !
Okay, I’d like to thank you for The Parlour Trick! Super cool!
Great video Jarrett! 😎👍
Thank you for watching! 😄👍
Hi...What Slipmat are you using? Its looking pretty awesome! Cheers and keep up the great work!
Great information and a great collection you seem to have.
Omg,AHHH,another great video :]
How do you know how to always make my day?
Haha thank you so much for watching! 😄👍
@@vinyleyezz no problem!
Your videos always make my day. Your videos got me into vinyl!
Your amazon page is actually super helpful.
Very interesting video, Jarrett. I've been obsessed with your channel lately
Thank you so much for watching!
Great video
I only have a few rare ones (that I know of): a MoFi Ziggy Stardust (paid $80 for it, worth over $120), Maniac Meat by TOBACCO (paid $35, saw 3 for sale on Discogs for $70-$90), a Japanese Devo EP (worth around $50). I haven’t put my whole collection into Discogs yet, there might be some more rarities. And I might dig out my moms old collection when I’m done, she has a lot of Rolling Stones and Beatles albums that might be first pressings
So glad that Third Man Records was mentioned, I love Jack White mostly for being in the White Stripes but he’s just a really good artist and knows that vinyl is really good, I would love to visit the shop and possibly get to meet the legend him self
One of my albums that I bought in the 80s for a few dollars is now going for $50 and up. It is "Hymn" by Ultravox, the Japanese import had laser etchings on it, not playable through the etchings, but still pretty nice looking. I was surprised to find out how hard it is to get a copy for a decent price. Mine is still in great shape.
Hey Jarret! I’ve got one cool suggestion for a future video! Top 5-10 best/worst looking coloured records
My rarest record so far is Hayley Kiyoko's expectations album it was a smoky green pressed UO exclusive I remembered as soon as it went on sale it sold out in like a week which bummed me out cause I really wanted it so one day when I went to UO I didn't have high hopes of finding it until I saw about 5 left I snatched it as fast as I could! One of my favorite packaging so far gatefold and comes with a poster.
I checked how much it's worth right now and it's about $80
Good video, you should do a radio show.
or a podcast
I just got into vinyl last year and it’s crazy how a vinyl record you buy for 30 can go for hundreds later like my clear/lavender My Everything vinyl
Those coloured records look really nice, especially the tranparent ones! Mint looking sleeves.
Back in 2004 I bought ‘dZihan & Kamien’ ‘Gran Reserva’ new from Couch Records, Austria.
It seems pretty rare now... only three copies on Discogs, if that says anything.
Mine would still be Bathory's self titled "yellow goat". Bought it brand new during its release month for Fl.12 (around $12) along with Merciful Fate's "Don't Break the Oath" and Voivod's "War and Pain" back in '84 in Tilburg-Netherlands. They're all still in near mint cond. with their shrinkwraps intact.
Really good taste in music my friend🎉🎉🎉
@@javierorganista7491 Thank you kindly, Sir!
Been collecting records for 35 years and you just mentioned some of my favorites, cool to find someone with kind of same taste in music, cheers!!!!
I don't really own rare records, but I do have a pink Pink Floyd bootleg record that I love because it's a record of a 1968 live performance they did in Rome and it has a Roger Waters interview on it. It's not rare or expensive, but it's really cool because I feel like Pink Floyd is performing for me--it's different from their recorded sessions and kinda why I like the Ummagumma Live LP in the same way.
I have three original 78 Sun Record singles of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash
i have brand new johnny cash lp's when he was on sun records i love the old records none of these remakes
DiamondKnights That's awesome!!
Dylan Hayes I have a 78 of I walk the Line. I brought it in the record store below the Sun Records studio in Memphis. Paid 30 bucks for it about 20 years ago. It's near mint!
I have sun 45 elvis mystery train 1955
I'm Sure Jack White would love to talk with you xD
The soundtrack for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty sells for insanely high prices as well. I've never really been able to understand it but it may be worth checking out.
Mine is Frank Ocean's Blonde LP, Black Friday Edition, at around US$ 300 now. I'm glad I got to snatch one.
Mine are Savage Tonight (Original 1984 pressing) in NM and Joy Peters - Don't Loose Your Heart maxisingle.
MY rarest record is Dungeons & Dragons first quest. Gate fold double LP. On each of the inner sleeves there is instructions and a map to a playable D & D quest. :-)
One of my rarest records is a original The Runaways from 1977 live in Japan
Unplayd
I have 3 out of 5 of these albums but I'd say one of my rare albums is also Sing the Sorrow by AFI on red vinyl. The person I bought it from also included three patches and a set list autographed by the band.
My Chemical Romance has lots of colored vinyls I've been collecting. So far the hardest for me to find is their blue Danger Days vinyl, and every time I try to look it up, I get results for the pink and blue Hot Topic vinyl.
My rarest album is Sing the Sorrow by AFI on red vinyl it’s going for $200+ on Discogs.
Thrice's "Alchemy Index", bought the 4 EP Box for 40, now it goes for a little bit more, and a first Edition The Mars Volta - "Deloused in the Comatorium"
Heard the Parlour Trick A Blessed Unrest a few years ago and loved it so much. Needs more love!
two albums that seem to be very rare I'd like to own are:
Feel the Cold by North Star: only ever found a vinyl on sale on Discogs and it was for 75 euros. Outside of that one LP, never found it on sale anywhere else. On Discogs, 4 people own it and 23 (excluding me) want it. This album was never sold on Discogs, so I don't know what happened to that one LP I once found
Bla Vardag by Atlas: more people have it on Discogs (41 own it and 132 want it), but currently there is only one copy on sale and it's for $100 CAD. On Discogs, the lowest price it went for was $78 CAD, the highest $178 CAD and the median is $150 CAD. Again, can't find a copy of the album anywhere else
Kung Fury vinyl... super cool. Very nice video. :D
Thank you for watching!
One of my rarest records is a 1977 copy of ELO's 'Out Of The Blue'
I have the first Tuxedomoon 7", of which they made 250, I believe. At the time, late 70s, allegedly you could submit your own tape at some department store or stores in the US (in this case most likely somewhere in SF) and they would make a personal small pressing for you. Was this ever a thing? I don't know.
I loved you're voice perfect as a radio dj.
Enjoy what you do. Very helpful. I would like to find a computer system that would be helpful tin filling my rather large collection. Is there anything out there that would be helpful?
Nice channel. EZ subscribe. Rarest I've got are probably a clean orig 1970 Velvet Underground "Loaded", a 2003 reissue on 180 of MBV's "Loveless", Tama Impala's "Tame Impala" 2013 repress on red vinyl, and Sun Kil Moon's "Tiny Cities".
I have quite a few rare records actually
my most rare would be either
emapeas seeds roots and fruits, which is currently up on sale for $200 AUD on discogs
macintosh plus's floral shoppe because of the labels neglect of actually shipping the records out to most of the people who bought one and rare ones going from $90-300
or macross 82-99's sailorwave, which currently goes for around $100-300 on discogs
My rarest record is the sigur ros “in a frozen sea” box set. I was just getting into the band at the time and I saw an expensive looking box set at what looked like a good price, so I went for it. Best decision ever.
I have the cd of hellbilly deluxe, I know it is not rare like the vinyl but it is still a good album
Hi Jarrett, I have got a copy of the Gold Blooded Parlour Trick « A blessed Unrest » after one of your previous video, just gorgeous! My rarest albums are Dark Side of the Moon mint original pressing with the solid blue triangle on the label, and an absolutely awesome Jerry Lewis Cinderfella lp with a weird multi colored vinyl and a gorgeous illustration from Norman Rockwell at the back of the cover. If you do not have this one, you must absolutely seek it! By the way, I love your videos! Fred from France
That’s awesome Fred! I’m glad you have a gold pressing also! Such a cool album! And for sure DSOTM is amazing as well haha. Thanks for watching!
I have a copy of Diamond Head's White Album from 1980 (of which there were 1000 originally pressed) worth 300-500 pounds sterling (400-650 USD)
Most expensive record set in my collection is the Disintegration Loops 9LP boxset by William Basinski. Original price was 175 USD; but copies are currently going for 800 USD, and people are selling for upwards of 3000 USD on Discogs.
Most surprising sleeper record is the Only Lovers Left Alive OST red vinyl by SQUURL and Jozef Van WIssem. Paid 20 USD for this, and recently copies went for 300-350 USD. current cheaoest copy for sale on Discogs is 420 USD, with some users selling for up to 1000 USD.
I ended up getting the miles Davis record yesterday
I have a "butcher cover" of "Yesterday and Today" by The Beatles. It's a peeled cover which meant that it had the replacement "trunk cover" over it originally. I bought it in 1985 for $250. I still have it and am not getting rid of it. That's one of the rarest albums in my collection.
I also have a copy of Kung Fury & Ozzy's No More Tears and a sealed copy of The Beatles Mono Masters.
Yay! New video! The Amazon thing is cool too
Thank you for watching and checking it out! 😄
Love your channel! Your videos are the best!
Dang it! I like Dan Cantrell and did not know about The Parlour Trick.
G'Day Vinyl Eyezz! I've wanted to ask since you brought up your rare records in this video. What are ways you can tell that the records one owns are rare/what their value is?
Discogs is probably your best resource. It’ll tell you all the info about your record, the year it was pressed, the country, and other important info. You can also see what other people are charging for that record!
I agree. Discogs is the way to go. There is also popsike which is ok. With discogs you gotta narrow down the exact copy/ version you have then based on previous sales etc they give you a minimum, median and maximum value. Add you whole collection to your profile and you can easily track values and any changes people make to the entries (eg better pictures, updating misinformation, matrix/ runout info, other identifiers..etc). There is nothing more satisfying than adding a release that is not already there.
the rarest record i think i currently own is by a band called "the like," the album is "release me." i spent a long, long time looking for it, at the time i became obsessed with finding it at a good price. it was on discogs for over $100 with limited copies. i couldn't justify the cost so i left it be for awhile. somehow i found it on amazon for about $30 a couple months later. it was the best vinyl purchase i think i could've ever made. i just checked discogs and they only have two copies listed and both are $175-$200 now.
I am an avid collector of Beatles records. I have a first pressing of please please me in mono which is in excellent condition and I have had offers of up to $800 for it. Also I have the white album numbered 125435 which is in mint condition and I have been offered around $400 for this. One of my rarest is a signed King Arthur by Rick Wakeman of Yes. I have no idea what the value of this would be but it looks great on my wall.
Led Zeppelin 1, second UK pressing. The fun part: I bought it at a used record store in Toronto in the early 90's for $10.00. During a move I packed away all my vinyl and forgot about it until a few years ago. I dug them all out again and found the Zeppelin 1. Decided to give it a listen and the first thing I noticed was the original inner sleeve. It's just a plain inner sleeve with instruction on the best way to handle your records. Then I noticed it had the Made in Gt Britain purple label. By now Discogs was active so I looked it up. Sells between $200 - $350 now.
that’s nuts, mad lucky
Man, wish they still offered that Parlour Tricks LP. Went to their site and listed to it and it's very cool.
I’m not sure how rare it is but my most treasured (and most I’ve spent on) record is the soundtrack to Belladonna of Sadness. It’s a great psychedelic soundtrack to one hell of a movie.
I’m also waiting for the day they rerelease Only Lovers Left Alive on vinyl, because the cheapest it goes for is 110.00 CAD last I checked.
R Ryle M thanks I’ll give it a listen
A mint example of the contours do you like now that I can dance. I checked its a first US press that when I picked it up was still sealed! I thought it was a 80's reissue at the time. It has a slight warp but is still completely playable and no orange peel even after being sealed for more than 50 years! I'm still shocked about this especially since I picked my copy up for 15 dollars and is worth at least 300 and yes the shrink is still on it.
I have the Type O Negative RSD (2011?) "None More Negative" box set that runs anywhere between $2k-5k, and a handful of OOP things prob not worth much more than $50 each to the right person, like the 180g 2 lp "Mulholland Drive" Milan soundtrack.
Jarett,I'm so happy,I got 10000 days (tool)on CD today and it's amazing!
I'm getting a record player for my birthday and I've already started my list of vinyls I would like. Hopefully I'll get some money to buy at least one of them. You might know them.
1. Their Satanic Majesties Request- the Rolling Stones
2. My dear Violet- Amy's arms
3. Soft spots- adult mom
4. I'll try living like this- deaths dynamic shroud
5. Million miles away- macross 82-99
Your channel is really useful when it comes to teaching me about record players and vinyls
When it comes to rare vinyls I don't actually own one but I did see one in a shop. It was an original pressing of a live performance from queen (I think it was live performance in Manchester. I can't really remember. I haven't seen it in a while) but I know it was a live performance and the selling price for it was £300.
if you’re just getting into vinyl i would like to warn you, get a turntable and skip the suitcase record players, they will damage your records over time, imposing 6 grams onto the track as opposed to the standard 2 grams
My rarest record - U2's Wide Awake in Europe EP, RSD Black Friday 2010 issue. $199-$440 right now on Discogs.
My rarest record is the Ferris Wheel On Fire EP from the Neutral Milk Hotel boxset, It's going around on discogs for $80. I'm also getting a copy of ITAOTS Jeff Mangum took on tour with him.
The amount of times I've gone searching for Hellbilly Deluxe with no success
the rarest record i have is the transparent purple version of Synchronicity by The Police. I didnt even know it was the rare purple one until last week
I have the limited 2 Lp 140gr limited edition splatter vinyl of Nmesh’s Dream Sequins album. It runs for between 99$ to 500$
Soon Deviatons Pt.1 of The Fragile will be on this list once it sells out. Good thing is, I already own it and it's such a damn treat.
Congratulations on the Amazon thingy.!
I found a limited edition double disk vinyl of the kung fury album for 45 bucks and it’s still sealed, i’m thinking of picking it up
That’s what I’m trying to find all of my vinyl records albums again back 70’s & 80’s most of my albums that I found the music 🎶 on 33 vinyl albums at Walmart or Amazon I’ve been finding.
Damn, I had no idea that Hellbilly was so rare. It is one album that I would love to re-buy on vinyl.
It was just repressed a few months ago, pick it up along with the rest of the Rob Zombie catalog. They did the full run and sounds great!
@@KC9SVS Thanks for the tip. I will definitely be doing so!
Nothing here quite beats my AFI-Sing The Sorrow record that I was fortunate to stumble upon
I have a Saliva live album by Tool on Vinyl. I have no idea if it’s a bootleg but I love it so much. I also have that album in Cd as my dad gave it to me before he left for deployment
My dad bought Queen's "A Kind of Magic" when it came out in '86 which has side A on both sides. Still has it to this day and is probably rare considering that most people would have probably just gone back to the shop and exchanged it a new copy.
I received a ton of promo radio vinyls from my uncle ( Dad's side of the family )
With them being the original promos and spanning from the 80's to the 90's and early 2000's, some of these promos range from Prince's " Pink Cashmere " with it's radio edit and album version, to Flesh 'n Bone's " World So Cold ".
I can't say for sure if their worth a pretty penny, ( 18-20 of these in total i have ) but they are cool to have and play.
Sometimes i'll play them and pretend i'm a radio host:
" Good afternoon, L.A. Up next we have " Pink Cashmere " by Prince off his greatest hits album " The Hits/The B-sides ". It's hit the top charts at number 3 and is just one of the new tracks to be included. Let's take a listen..."
My rarest record Industrial Boogie by Doctor Ross original 1960's 78rmp pressing. I used to own an lp by dr Ross only 99 pressings but I on sold it in 1975.
Any thoughts on turntables from Victrola? If been considering their modern 3 speed turntable with speakers as an intro to vinyl.
Watain - the vinyl reisues, is my rarest. Bought it back when it came out and it sold out very fast - 1000 copies made. It's a wooden box with embossed leather on the lid, containing their first 4 studio albums on colored vinyl.
My rarest record by far is a first pressing of Thrill of the Arts by Vulfpeck. It goes for $150-$200 on Discogs and they’re pretty hard to come by so I’m glad I grabbed it a while back. Mine is still sealed and mint but I really don’t see myself wanting to sell it any time soon.
One of the rarest among my collection is The Color Spectrum- Complete Collection by The Dear Hunter. Another one I'm proud of is I have a UA release of ELO's Out Of The Blue with the original punch-out spaceship paperboard model still intact.
Noice! Also, I've noticed that on the top middle-right of the LP120, there's some sort of rectangle thing on it. Do you know what it is? It's on my turntable too(which is a Sherwood PM9805).
EDIT: wow that was quick, I already got a ❤ from vinyl eyezz
I’m not sure 🤔 That’s the first time I’ve noticed it lol! If you find out what purpose that serves, let me know!
Some turntables have a socket there to plug a flexi lamp in.
